Alvin may be the greatest guitarist of the entire classic rock generation that no one ever seems to talk about, and what a sad commentary that is. Alvin Lee is one of the most criminaly underrated guitarist ever!!
When the song I would love to change the world came out there was no one playing like that on the radio. Studio guys yeah some maybe. Most Studio players were jazz guys because they could read music. Larry Carlton was the only one who could touch Alvin back then. Larry did some of the iconic Steely Dan tunes from the 70s and the most recorded guitarist in America in the 70s and 80s.

In my opinion, this is one of the best blues songs I've ever heard, it's an absolutely epic piece of music and I can't stop listening to it, chills and emotions affect me every time. This song is from Alvin Lee's solo album Ninety Ninety-Four (released in the US as I Hear You Rockin') and the first fantastic solo features George Harrison on slide guitar, it's just so beautiful. Alvin Lee's guitar solo is phenomenal and in my opinion, a masterpiece, well, in fact the whole song is a masterpiece. I just knew you'd love it, guys, your reactions were fabulous and exactly mirror how I felt when I first heard this song. Thanks so much for reacting to this me, very much appreciated. And may I just say, RIP Alvin and RIP George, two wonderful musicians, who are very much missed.

Hi Anne. Just a personal Thank you. I have tried so many times to get this masterpiece reacted to. Alvin was never given the acknowledge he deserved but that's OK cos he was was truly loved by those that mattered.
I was truly saddened when I heard of his passing.
I tried to find out where his resting place is to pay my respects to no avail Apparently it was has wish that the site remained secret???
I do not know if this is true but if so it would not suprise me.
He was a genuine, modest man who will be sadly missed.

Alvin Lee was (and is) one of my guitar heros, Amazing playing here from both George and Alvin.
Alvin Lee was quoted as saying: "… one of my favourite tracks from my album ‘1994’. It has George Harrison on slide guitar and is one of the best solos he ever played. It’s a masterpiece, so sensitive. Hearing George made me play more sensitive too!
I’m very proud of this one. It was recently voted one of the best blues songs ever recorded. I’m sure B.B King wouldn’t agree with that! It’s got a classical style piano played by Steve Grant, and George Harrison plays a slide guitar solo that is one of my all time favourites. He created such a tender, melodic solo and I had been playing kind of angry solos, y’know? After hearing George I had to change my whole approach and started to play much more melodically. As a result, I played a great solo too. George may not have been the most clever and nimble of guitarists, but he didn’t just wiggle his fingers and play a succession of notes, he actually wrote a tune while doing a solo. He was so eloquent on guitar that he inspired me to play something eloquent too." Alvin Lee was one of the best blues guitarists and he certainly proves that here, with this incredible song, not forgetting his great vocals!

I saw Ten Years After when i was 16, I'm 66 now. I was so blown away that they became one of my favorite bands ever.
Thank you George and Patrick, this is my first time watching your channel and I love you guys! I loved your reaction to this amazing guitarist Alvin Lee and yes the drums and the piano are crying right along with the awesome guitar playing. I was 17 yrs old when a whole car load of us went to see Alvin Lee and Ten Years After, Billy Squire was the backup. We loved the concert but were a bunch of irresponsible teenagers way back then. Smoked so much and was stoned and all of us fell asleep on the dark highway! God woke me up in time to wake the driver and straighten the wheel or there would have been a whole car load of dead teenagers'. I'm thank God I'm here to celebrate Alvin's legacy.

Guys, I'm a real hard-bitten old Bluesman and this song never fails to make me get at least one watery eye. Seeing you young guys really enjoying and appreciating this song by one of my greatest guitar heroes made both eyes water! This is the one I wanted you to hear guys, one of the best blues tracks ever and with George Harrison in on too, what a bonus. And what an underrated guitarist Alvin Lee was, I read online last year that Hendrix said no one played better at Woodstock than Alvin Lee.

The one and only George Harrison is playing the first solo. I recommend you another great blues number from Lee, “Real Life Blues”, which also features Harrison.
I've loved this song for years, but I didn't know the first solo was by George Harrison. To me, that's the best solo I ever heard him play. And of course Alvin Lee, although not that well-known, is right up there with some of the blues greats. I agree that his solo on The Bluest Blues is one of the best of all-time as well.
I remember standing right in front of Alvin at the Forum for a great show and someone handed him a joint and he smoked it while playing. He was at his best playing live for sure!

So I heard Alvin Lee and Ten Years After were coming to my hometown of Beaumont, Texas and were going to play in Lamar University's gym. I stood in line with my girlfriend (Carla) to get tickets. Suddenly this guy appeared and said anyone who would volunteer to help set up folding chairs could get in free. I jumped at the chance. Carla and I had great seats and got to see a show that changed our lives. Alvin Lee. WOW!
Alvin has been a guitar hero of mine since the late 60s - more TYA and Alvin please guys - just loved this - try " Help Me " from TYA Recorded Live if you like this kind of Solo ! - you will not be disappointed !!

Happy to see others sharing the same feeling. Each time i listen this song i still feel the same... the first time i heard this song i was alone. My eyes were wet at the first solo. When second started i literraly cried all the tears i had until the end and was not able to talk just after. I only know 2 or 3 songs able to launch your heart in an emotional rollercoaster just in few minutes.

Alvin was known for having the fastest fingers. I'm Going Home live from Woodstock is a great performance by them. I was lucky enough to see them live.

Thank you for reacting to Alvin Lee. I have been waiting for someone to do this reaction. Alvin Lee is a very underappreciated guitarist and one of my favorites. Some other songs you may like are Slow Blues in C, Live versions of I Can't Keep from Crying Sometime, Help Me and I'm Going home. I suggest the live versions so you can see some of the amazing things Alvin could do with a guitar. There is something new in each one of these live versions. Happy listening guys.

I love this song too and agree with you that his guitar playing was reminiscent of David Gilmour and just as good if not better. This music was so good and expressed exactly what the lyrics were saying. Great reaction especially seeing George being transported by the song's vibe.
Well, yes, I've seen Harrison playing solos with a young Robben Ford live in concert, that Ford, the brilliant blues-fusion guitarist, back in the day, and of course the once-in-a-lifetime witnessing of Clapton's and Harrison's memorable duets. BUT THIS...Lee and Harrison find some alchemy that is astonishing as it is moving. Both encourage, allow, enable each other to leave -- transcend, actually--their defining gifts that are also, ironically, their historical burdens: Harrison the fastidious, melody architect and Lee the guitar gangster gunslinger. But here, Lee's vocals--his VOCALS--frees Harrison to let his guitar, ohh, you know, Gently Weep. And Harrison's fastidiousness gives way to the elegiac, lyrical evocation of loss and regret. This moment enables Lee to drop the guitar gunslinging to reach for that which was always his and for which his gunslinger fans rarely, if ever, allowed: the Art and Power of the blues as part of a history, the moment where Lee no longer has to pummel, cajole, "are-you-not-entertained" firefight but rather Transcend. When has Lee ever entwined vocal and guitar so elementally and movingly?? The loss of these two is incalculable. And all due respect to Clapton's and Harrison's synergies, but THIS is the pairing that moves one to tears. Lee and Harrison leave all that armour and weight of their legends for the Bluest Blue: greatness in its essence.

Truly an epic song played by epic musicians. If you guys haven’t listen to the Zuma album by Neil Young the song “Cortez the killer” has another one of those winding out of body experience solos. Life-changing. It’s a real kick to watch you too react the same way I did when I heard these songs years ago and the feeling stays with you throughout the rest of your life. What a treasure! George Harrison was quite an Accomplished slide player and from what I understand he could kill it with the ukulele too

If you love great guitar you should, if you have not already reacted to the song, consider Jeff Beck's "Brush With The Blues." It's an instrumental so you get loads and loads of great guitar work from one of the very greatest guitarists of all time.
You should listen to his band, Ten Years After. They only had one hit i think, but lots of great songs.
