    I just got this, and I think they suggest mounting the little black block to the board, so that you can just pop the main unit on and off in order to use it for large pieces. Another idea I had which might work is to cut your mounting board off so that its even with the back and that way you could just flip it on its other axis for large pieces while still on the board. You cant move the storage pieces around for support of those large pieces, but Im lead to believe they are the thickness of a 2x4 so could likely just cut a couple short pieces of a 2x4 for support when needed? Good review, the engineers definitely left some on the table here.

  • @tracdfar

    Nice review. I think they're trying to keep the price point down to appeal to entry level customers. So, they cut a few corners. I think to improve upon the build quality of the K5 or K4, the price would be much higher. I wouldn't be surprised if an industrial strength "920" isn't already in the works. Another great innovation would be to eliminate the need to adjust the stop collar on the drill bit with automatic drill depth indexing on the jig itself.

    I noticed in another review of this that the black hinges have 2 holes in them, do you think those could have been used to mount it down with the wings on and that Kreg put them there for that case of mounting it with the wings hinged on? @DoresoomReviews Před 3 lety +2

      That is what the holes are for, but they do a pretty bad job of securing the wings. If you screw them down too tight, they make the ends of the wings pop up above the surface. Kreg needed to include a screw hole on both ends of the wings.

    Thanks, Very good review. However I did notice something you failed to mention. When you clamp the work piece in the jig, it left a heavy indention the the wood you are drilling in. I DON'T think I could live with the mark/indentions. Yes it is on the side of the woo the holes are drill in and could be noticeable in some of the items I build. #KREG K720 Pro still needs to do a lot of tweaks before I would consider buying it !

    Do not understand your mounting issue. If you are mounting it with the wings there are 2 holes in each wing attachment piece to mount to a board. Not only does this work, it has the advantage of allowing you to remove the main unit by sliding it free of the plastic mounts and use it with the clamp without the wings. Lots of time spent talking about a misunderstanding on your part, not an issue with Kreg's design. Also, slopiness in the wings is overcome by screwing them down, but as far a repeatable accuracy, I don't use pocket holes requiring that level of accuracy and am not sure I ever will. So far the stop on the wing has worked fine. Othe rthan those two issues, useful review, thank you.

    • @Woodcraft716
      @Woodcraft716  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Right on. Thanks for the comment. I made this video literally the day I received my pre-order 720. I've been told over the last year about my mistake in mounting. Originally, I thought you screwed the jig body down. After it was brought to my attention that it was an eyelet for mounting screws, and the jig slides on and off. That's when it all made sense. Also, as far as the repeatability with the side stop. I haven't used it either. Again, I was trying to be thorough with a new tool. I guess I had rushed to bethe first to get the video out. I always admit when I am wrong. No exception here. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

    I recently saw a demo of this being done at at a Lowes store in Tucson Az. . The guy was a Lowes employee not a Kerg Rep ,He took a brand new unit out of the box and went thru the setup and showed the various options.
    He then took a couple of pieces of wood to join together and the Auto clamp broke , he laughed about the good return policy and then opened another New unit and tried it and it also broke on about the third time. If you're going to mount it AND attach the side compartments, there's no reason to keep those little wings attached. If you remove them, then you have access to your mounting holes and the ability to attach the side clips. But, given that you just screwed down the side compartments independently, the side clips are pretty unnecessary.
