      I did not see any precision torque wrench.. I saw a beat the f up old beam or deflection type which was not used to tighten and might as well just been a long handle breaker bar.

    They machined the friction disc teeth away. The differential is no longer limited slip! They just added a major defect.

    As they have now machined the teeth out of the intermediate plates this differential is no longer in limited slip operation .

      Exactly right, but why would you want an open diff ? I can only think to cut tyre wear, but you'd lose push into a pile ...... their nuts.

      That's not fixing a "Defect", that's just removing the function of LS. So I wonder why they were doing that to begin with? I'm guessing it still functions, might be noisy and obviously loss of traction, but unless there was something gained seems like a lot of work for little (if any) reward. I suppose at least the oil get's changed (Maybe??? lol). I don't know that I'd say this was an "Experienced Mechanic", more like necessity in a third world country maybe.

      As the chief safety officer and engineer for the country, I approve the use of the special safety pyjamas and safety sandals. Likewise, the use of the speciality scouring sand used as the floor covering is a welcome sight, as this sand, when introduced into the gear axial will clean and scour all the bearings, this making returns less expensive.

      I'm not a mechanic but shouldn't there be several friction plates in the pack? Would removing the teeth from one make the LSD non-functional?

      @@mikeall7012 If you use wrong oil in LSD diff, it will start to bind. They use Camel piss or something as oil. It doesent have LSD additives and lock will stick. They just disabled LSD.

    I know from personal experience, once these backstreet mechanics get hold of your broken down machine, it is the kiss of death...Their methodology is, do half-a-repair to keep the machine going, then it'll be back when it breaks down again & that's more business for them...an endless & infuriating illogical vortex that is best avoided at all costs...

      definitely, they forgot to put a gasket on the main drive shaft. now it'll leak oil and then it'll be back and need to be removed with a crane again, extra charge

    I worked at an industrial gear shop for a few years. The lack of everything was driving me nuts. No measuring. Forcing bearings in place. I wish I could give these guys a bearing heater. I have seen worse though. Work with what you have.

      @@PatTheRiot mate, had a loader crap it’s gearbox in the middle of a muddy field. Driver pushing to hard to get out of the mud hole. No way to recover so repair done in situ! Let’s just say it was possibly the most brutally hard job ever! Cold, muddy, wet windy. Trying to jack on mud, up to knees at times!
      Only battlefield repairs in Army days a bit worse!!!

      The clutch pack in the diff won't engage anymore tho it seemed like a lot of work to make a machine less capable but i have seen it before, i would be interested to know what is the reason to do such modes (most of the time it's about saving a buck).

      Oh yea major respect someone has put the wrong diff oil in or they've run it way to low causing the plates to lock up making turning ruff then took it to these cheap cunts instead of putting new friction plates in and lsd oil they lathed the teeth off so its open diff just gonna have 1 rear tire spinning now while driving into a pile of rocks so yea major respect

      Also seen no paint on the ring gear to spin and check the tooth engagement after new bearings might eat the ring and pinion over time bet when that happens they will just pull the rear drive shaft have a fwd loader very professional

    I like how they got the gasket maker almost all of the way around the cover before bolting it in place. At least it will only leak in one small spot.

    My god... I really hope these guys get paid piece work, because who the hell could afford to pay 6 techs to do the job 1 guy does in a proper shop? I guess it helps that you can guarantee you'll be seeing it again soon enough. Because the machining was a nightmare (and I'm pretty sure it did more damage than it helped), and you can guarantee all the bearing surfaces, oil seals and fluids are heavily contaminated with sand. . Job security!

    pulling the clutch packs and taking the teeth off them was probably just to scam a few more hours labor out of the owner. otherwise all they did was put some new bearings in.

      Actually it is MUCH worse than that, they turned a limited slip differential into a regular freespinning diff.
      Those teeth are to supposed to lock the output shafts to the housing as more force is applied to the plates inside, and now they're just going to be spinning a tire instead.
      Good luck to that operator next time it rains and he actually needs to push on something.

    Ima come right out and say it. This whole video was an experience. A roller coaster of thrills, spills and inappropriate use of tools.
    I'm pretty confident if that loader didn't have a problem beforehand it does now.

    it seems that they've removed the differential blocking ability... the grooves in those inner rings were meant to act as a brake when pressed against the other alternating plates that have the slots to hold them on the outside...

      yep they made it an open diff. they prob don't have the correct slip additive on hand so they did all this instead. the work looks smart and impressive but it prob only needed a flush and a fill with the correct fluid combo.

      As the chief safety officer and engineer for the country, I approve the use of the special safety pyjamas and safety sandals. Likewise, the use of the speciality scouring sand used as the floor covering is a welcome sight, as this sand, when introduced into the gear axial will clean and scour all the bearings, this making returns less expensive.

      Or if they did, it would take two days to analyse the problem, a week to get the parts not on hand, then another week to do the work at $350 an hour depending on how many hands involved.

    man this is painful to watch but the respect I have for these Mechanics for teh conditions and tools they have to use and work in......... this you I am so lucky to have the tools and service truck I have this is usually 1 man 2-3 hour job and no machining as we have the proper parts in stock but they are very ingenuitive and well my respect to them 100%

    Honestly; I shudder at the bulging plastic bag that comes with every flat pack, but these guys take this apart, but most importantly, reassemble it without a page or booklet. I tip my hat at the ability of these lads to do such work, in less than ideal conditions, but most of all, taking the millions of complex parts and put it all back together. If I done it, I'd have more than one jar of spare bolts and washers..

    Looks like they are converting a limited slip diff into an open diff, probably for a tighter turning radius or to conserve tire life.

    These guys are awesome, without a doubt. But imagine how much more efficient they would be with modern hand tools. Chrome sockets, shallow, mid length & deep. 6 & 12 point. Same with impact sockets. Long handle ratchets. A 3/8, 1/2 & even a 3/4 inch impact guns. Pry bars with ergonomic handles, dead blow hammers, a hydraulic press, shop tables. These guys would be unstoppable.

      The men working together are the efficiency, that is their secret. You don't need all that shit when you have help.. The US is based on one man show, and some poor bastard will be at it for hours with fancy tools.. They make the job easier by having people do different things, clean gaskets, extract bolts, machine things, that's way more efficient than a one man show mobile mechanic

      I 99% agree with that comment, my only other side is that they have such a strong work ethic using what they can and if get to see all this easy modern stuff will they just choose to use new stock of parts and not refurbish any more like they are doing.
      In western countries (I am from Australia a western one) all we do is take out the old throw it away for scrap iron / whatever metal and then install a new part of the local autoparts store. Rarely do we rebuild it etc

    Что-то не пойму,был дифф повышенного трения,сточили шлицы с фрикционов-стал хрен пойми что... И самое интересное не показали,как пятно контакта регулировали. А вобще очень оперативно сработали!

      getting under a suspended load without any kind of backup system in case of hoist failure is actually standard operating procedure in Cat factories... meanwhile, hoist maintenance is outsourced to the lowest bidder...
