IPS Kit for PSP 1000 (Affiliate): ebay.us/FKMJbv
In today's episode of Retro Renew, I look at a brand new IPS kit. But not one for a Nintendo handheld. Instead, we’re going to be looking at an IPS kit for the Sony PlayStation Portable. The PSP already has a fantastic display, but it was plagued with minor issues. Most notable are ghosting (slow refresh rate) and dead pixels. What I want to find out is whether or not the IPS panel resolves some of these issues. So sit back, relax, and let’s see what this kit is all about!

lies, wish we had a kit for the 3k .. or even for the go* my favorite handheld ever
We need an ips kit for the 2000 2001 & 3000 models. I'd upgrade my whole fleet!
Let us know if a new drop in screen comes out for us noobs.
Maybe you can do a second joy stick mod with new joy sticks!!!! and a Bluetooth Mod!!!
Any content that turns a PSP into a Home-console?
nearly 17-year-old handheld still getting aftermarket support - wow, talk about love!
It's such a great system. I bought a Japanese PSP 2000 in Piano White for around 90 bucks. Talk about a good deal. It is such a fun little handheld and there's so many good titles to choose from on it.
funny thing is that psvita doesnt...
@@DaFeLaTV yeah cause not only is it’s screen fine, it’s way less popular
still struggle to find good replacement shells sadly
There's quite the community on Vita aswell.
The PSP was basically my only multimedia device until I got an iPod Touch. I remember the days when I use to stand outside for hours just using the neighbor's Wifi.
LMAO glad to know i wasnt the only one that did this
except i did it with an ipod touch
Yep, towards the end of it's life, 90% of the time i would load TV series and movies onto it and watch that on my long journeys
I loved 2005-2011ish. Unsecured WiFi was EVERYWHERE.
Same but with 3ds trading Pokemon black. Ahh good times
@@RobGMun with internet ?
I hope this will be just the beginning of mods for PSP. This console was so ahead of the time and it needs more love in retro community, given that is runs all major emulators smoothly and has great resolution for retro games.
Totally agree! They system is pretty fantastic. Not sure what mods it could benefit from. What mods would you like to see?
@@MachoNachoProductions Maybe better batteries, it's almost impossible to find new old stock or reliable bootlegs.
Honestly the screen and the thumbstick were the worst parts of the psp and the moding comunity fixed both. They also fixed wifi by adding better antena and better speakers. Bigger battery and msd adapter as well . Some went ahead and even replaced the optical drive with various mods and added LEDs to the switches ... another cool mod was a second analogue stick ... the moding comunity for psp was huge.
@@DoubleU555 Stay away from "official" batteries, they are either recirculated old (dead) stock or a case swapped chinesium battery. I just bought an "official" one that wouldn't even hold a charge.
How about Bluetooth audio, Tito (@@MachoNachoProductions )? Would be great for UMD movies (most are super cheap these days), MP3 music and games.
I would love to see this console get the Gameboy treatment. Shell mods, bigger battery, USB-C, etc.
ESPECIALLY an aluminum shell. An aluminum PSP with the UMD drive removed in favor of a large battery would be epic.
Me too! It totally deserves the same treatment!
I have yet to see a high quality shel, but there are people who remove the UMD drive, and install a huge Lipo pack. I think it is only a matter of time though with the ease of Homebrew in these things.
USB-C charging is a very easy mod on a PSP, I highly recommend it
Whoa! Yours is not a bad idea my friend. I'm definitely doing this to mine.
Pretty much all of these bar the aluminium shell (I think) have already been done, and were actually done before the point you commented.
Loco Roco was my jam, time to revisit that bright, beautiful world again!
Great game!
Yeah, loco roco
Loco Roco was indeed, that shi*!
I've had a PSP since launch in 2005, I've always loved it, upgraded to a 2001 when they came arround for external display option. Later got a PSPgo just for the heck of it. My 1001 is still my favorite as the thickness of the system made for a more comfortable grip. I wish the Vita had been taken more seriously. :(
I would still buy a psp today. I feel like the psp will never get old.
The problem is finding good quality new/newish /good enough batteries!!
@@aaroninclub i replaced my UMD drive with a 4000mAh battery. lasts for a really long time
@@aaroninclub yeah definitely get a 1000 yes it's not as fancy as newer models but it's much more reliable and built like a tank
@@crusadertwo239 Do you know a recommendation for who could do it for me in Perth, Western Australia? Thanks.
@@aaroninclub do what?
Now I hope there will be an OLED option.
Games with low graphics usually look better on displays which kinda blur out the pixelated outlines.
honestly, buying a ps vita with a psp emulator would be a better option imo
@@AshLordCurry
Based. Modded Vitas can even internally render PSP games in native resolution (double the PSP resolution) and some games have patches for dual analog controls. I haven’t used my PSP since I got my Vita as there’s no reason for me to go back to the PSP with the Vita being an objectively better experience.
@@perpetualcollapse Vita can't render PSP games in better resolution. There are some patches /plugins that can do it. But it's like for like 12 games only.
@@perpetualcollapse It is also no small matter that the Vita being slightly fatter, and wider, is also easier to play on for more than 20 minutes without to your hands cramping up on you.
I have a launch day PSP 1000 which is in mint condition so I will be keeping it stock - but I have to respect that people are making mods for it, and I love how nicely it drops in.
That's awesome. I saw a few videos for this mod but I can only feel comfortable modding something if Macho Nacho has a video on it.
I appreciate how easy it is to follow your process.
Thank you! So glad you find my videos helpful! Cheers!
This kit is a great option for rehabbing damaged PSP consoles.
No the best way to rehab a PSP is to find a PSVita and install Adrenaline on it.
@@Ichijoe2112 That is wasteful. The PSP still has a lot of love to give.
I just need a real way to fix the joystick drift
@@shadowtheimpure also a PSVita doesn't play UMD if you have them lying around. I know you can just pirate a digital copy but it's just not the same vibe haha.
@@DarrinLin No it just plays all the *.iso's, and *.cso's, and has a better Screen than the PSP ever had. The fact that you can play the Vita for more than 15 minutes with out your hands cramping up, on you is also a plus point.
It might be 'Wasteful" but, I still would not go back to the PSP from having had a Vita.
Mods for PSP (And PSP Go) in this channel would be amazing! I would love to watch you on the quest for the perfect PSO Go Mod (MicroSD instead of M2 Card, bigger battery etc..). Great job as Always!
Thank you Luis! Would love to do more with the psp!
Yo dawg I heard you like Mods so we modded your Vita to run PSP games via the Adrenaline Emulator. Better Screen, better controls, better feel in your hand. No pixle bleed, because the PSP software was never designed to run an IPS Screen in the first place.
The production quality on your videos are stunning! Especially your intros, I'd love to know how you can pan around the consoles like that. Anyway, always a joy to tune in :3
Thank you so much Lennardo! Really means a lot. Glad you’re enjoying the videos!

This guy gives me good vibes from This Does Not Compute. Been loving your vidoes keep up the good work!
Glad you like them! Thank you!
Great video again. I like where you described the bridging. The quality of your videos are unmatched.
Unbelievable bro, I just installed my 64GB SD on my old but in perfect shape PSP 1001 and then a friend of mine sent me this video yesterday as well. My OG screen is fine but is great to know that I have options for the future. Btw that SD gave so much new life to my PSP because my old memory stick pro duo was causing data transfer bottlenecking in some games to a point where I was like "if this new memory doesn't fix the issue I'm getting another PSP", thankfully it worked for me this time.
I hated those proprietary cards. Overpriced as hell.
Pretty cool to see these enhancements. Hopefully we'll see something more substantial as time goes on.
I agree! The psp is a great platform. Would love to see more creative mods for it!
Those shots in the intro are SOOOO GOOD!
Tito your content is sublime. You’re going to go so far on CZcams. Keep up the good work man.
Thank you Hunter!
We’ve been spoiled by previous ips replacements. Because they have always been huge improvements. But it doesn’t have to be like that.
This is more akin to taking your car to the mechanic. You’re are not expecting to get a better car, just the same car but back in working condition.
To me, if you have 40 bucks and no attachment to the console, better get a working 3000
nah man.
the ghosting on psp is so terribly distracting, with all the damn games wanting to be dark moody teenbait.
this doesnt add a dozen new functions to the system, but it still fixes the most glaring permanent issue of the screen
Vice City Stories had the w o r s t ghosting during cutscenes.
@@clydefrosch i can understand that. It’s just that in my opinion at that price I believe buying a 3000 makes more sense. Unless you specifically want to keep using the same console.
@@marcianoacuerda I was wondering how the IPS would compare to the 3000 since it was a huge improvement over the 1000. But then again the Vita OLED is amazing and plays PSP games anyways. Now I'm wondering if there is really a point to having a PSP?
@@oblivieon1567 I completely agree with you. A 1000 modded Vita with adrenaline is all you need.
PSP was one of my favorite consoles too, the 1000 models are gorgeous :), nice mod
Totally agree! Love the 1000 models. Hefty and beautifully built!
I've been waiting for this. Thanks, Tito. 🙂
I never knew this was even a possible upgrade, now I’m very excited to try it out! Thanks another great video! Oh and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker was great!
Interesting mod for the 1000 model, brings it in line with the 2000 screen wise.
The PSP will stay my favorite console, even did the 2nd analog mod to it. I love my Vita (and still use it) but I'm still mad at Sony for abandoning it.
My top 4 PSP games:
-MGS : Peace Walker
-FFVII : Crisis Core
-Final Fantasy Dissidia Duodecim
-Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Also my top favorites.
I love that this is available, I modded mine probably a year ago. The great thing was the seller messed up their soldering, so I didn't have to import mine from across the seas.
I didn't go through this vid entirely, did you go over how there's different motherboard variants? not all of em have the same area to bridge solder across.
Cool to see. I still travel with my PSP Slim. Between that and Switch, I have access to just about everything I want to play on the go
Hoping to see some great screen mods for the PSP Slim.
I love the content here so I've subscribed just for the update of this mod for the psp 2k or 3k models!
man, the psp was a homebrew / emulation champ at the time, i remember specifically picking one up for this, think i only ever had one game for it, the rest was just playing roms, good times
I need to take the time to learn how to jailbreak the psp and add emulators to it.
@@MachoNachoProductions CFW Infinity is very easy to install.
@@MachoNachoProductions Oh wow man. You haven't homebrewed yet? That's crazy! There's so many guides and virtually endless potential for tons of cool stuff.
Great video; comparative battery life between each screen would’ve been the only other thing to factor before making a decision on this. Guessing the IPS screen results in reduced battery life?
I just recently bought an old blossom pink psp! this is a great video, thank you!
Thanks for all your content. I ordered mine and can't wait to share my results on your Discord.
this video reminds me of my first psp.
i bought like defective ones for about 60€ and build a working unit from that
Man I love the PSP, my favorite game for it was easily Persona 3 Portable
Oh man, never played persona but heard a lot of good things. Since it’s an Altus game, I’m sure it’s expensive to get a used copy of the game.
@@MachoNachoProductions yeah it’s not a cheap one(fortunately I still have my day one copy), typically in the $150+ range but if “alternate methods” are your thing it’s a fantastic game as long as you like fairly dark & quirky JRPGs.
@@MachoNachoProductions P3P can be found on eBay for as low as $30
@@MachoNachoProductions I'd recommend picking it up on the PS store! A lot of prohibitely expensive games (Suikoden II) are dirt cheap on the PS store
@@MachoNachoProductions p3p umds aren't actually that expensive, shockingly. not nearly as pricey as say, trails in the sky FC on UMD.
Dudes great for being honest with his review, you have my respect good sir.
you can call yourself mcgyver, a lot of crazy and cool mods on your channel. great content!
Was just discussing your videos with my brother, and stopping by our parents house to pick up our old Nintendos and PSP's
Great timing, I'll likely do one of these kits to refresh that gem of a console. If it needs it of course. Cheers!
Awesome! Glad you still have your old consoles! Cheers buddy!
lmao just grabbed my psp collection from my mothers house last week. funny.
This mod has come a long way. It used to require a lot more soldering if I remember correctly.
Agree! It was surprisingly simple. Almost drop in!
This is awesome!!! The 1000 model is my favorite also!
Useful, thank you!
I'm waiting to hear your thoughts on the V4 IPS kit mate, you must be due for another DMG mod soon!
Lol, true! Haven’t done a DMG mod in a long while!
This is certainly neat if you have a damaged screen, but I think the PSP's flaws are almost everything but the screen. The games loading very slowly and the whole system vibrating because of the terrible disc format. The circle pad being way too low making longer play sessions very uncomfortable.
I really don't think this system aged well. The Vita did everything mostly right, but didn't sell, a shame really.
Good video as always though, Tito.
exactly. him talking about ghosting constantly makes me laugh cause nobody cared back then. this is dated tech and needs to be seen as such. psp couldn't even load CZcams lol it's a ancient.
Thanks to this (and MVG's) video I worked up the courage to do finally this and my PSP now looks amazing! Evidently, however, there are four different MB versions for the PSP-1000 and it's just my luck I got the one with the smallest PINPOINT soldering points. Fortunately I didn't screw anything up... at least I hope so! Thanks for this video!
I really enjoyed this video mate. I never knew about this mod until I watched this. Although my PSP screen is in good condition, I am struggling to pass up on an excuse to open up and mod a PSP for the first time! Keep up the good work mate :)
Are you planning on covering the gbaHD? It’s basically a diy GBA Consolizer.
I think that would go really well with your channel and I haven’t seen it get almost any coverage.
Stay tuned!
I would really like to see this as well!
Also, PataPon was one of my fave games ever from it.
My favorite portable console ever. It was before smartphones were a thing, so it was my mp3/podcast player, portable video device, internet browser, gaming device, retro game emulator. Great memories!
that intro was so beautiful, how do you not have more subs.
I often think about doing this modification but then I modified my Vita to have all the PSP games I want on it using Adrenaline.
Combine that with the VitaBright plugin to go beyond max brightness on that OLED display, and games look downright gorgeous on it.
Great viewing angles, super rich OLED colors, very bright, and the pixel response times are great since it's an OLED panel. Little to no ghosting is noticeable. It's great.
You do have screen burn in and yellowing 💀
@@ineedandrenaline Except I swapped in a brand new display over the pandemic (which are easy and cheap to swap out) so even if that happens to my display, it won't be for many years.
Nice try though 💀
@@ProphitDesigns doesn't matter tho, it's something that will happen eventually. Unlike my PSP which is built to last.
@@ineedandrenaline I have over 6 PSP's and owned/fixed many more in the past. Many have either had their backlight go out entirely, had the glue from their backlight stain the lcd or developed dead pixels.
None of these devices are "built to last"
They're portable devices. They all die eventually. You have to maintain them.
Meanwhile you can continue playing on a dim LCD that has a ton of ghosting. I will continue on my OLED for more years to come.
@@ProphitDesigns yea sure bud. I've had my PSP since release and has never failed me. Go enjoy your stick drift and OLED failing 😂
I noticed that the text and icons on the IPS display looks to have "bleeding" into other pixels, unless that's just an illusion from the camera.
@H N IPS displays are the go to for retro systems, not sure how they "suck"
it's probably because the camera is overexposed
@H N TN panels suck at everything at TN panel is the orignal panel for the psp. IPS has better colors and black levels, VA has better black levels but lesser colors. And than you have oled with supurb black levels and nice colors. Dont spout bs plz.
Man, I loved my OG PSP.
I sunk so much time into games like the MGS series, Ace Combat and so on.
But the one game that springs to mind when I think of my old PSP is Innocent Life. I'd never played a harvest moon game before or since, but that one just took me. I remember playing until the early hours of the morning and taking my PSP to school to carry on playing on breaks. Amazing!
Thanks for this. This is amazing! I absolutely loved my PSP. The only console I kick myself for getting rid of. Will need to pick another one up after seeing this. I played hours of Outrun 2k6, Ridge Racer, and Power Stone on mine.
Keep up the awesome videos!
Thanks Adam! Those sound like great titles. Only played ridge racer of the ones you mentioned. Definitely need to check out power stone! Love those games!
LOL the quality of video on this channel can beat some Indie movies.
Thank you so much!! Glad you enjoy the videos!
@@MachoNachoProductions thank you for the great content as always
Finally, I can get rid of my 3000 psp. I hate how cheap it feels, and this screen replacement should make it on par with
The 3000s
I actually like the screen of the 3000, but the body itself feels cheap. I feel like keeping the hard plastic and bulky body of the 1000 paired with the screen of the 3000 would've been perfect.
@@MegaDrainProductions I hate the 3000's screen. When you are in the PSP's XMB and you scroll very fast you can see the scanline effect. Once you notice it then you just see it everywhere in gameplay.
I loved the PSP. My friend and I both had one in High School and we'd skip class and play Need For Speed Underground via LAN. The thing just felt so ahead of it's time, and "premium". I only had a few games, and I think the only movies I had were Spider-Man 2 and Resident Evil 2. I was able to download anything else. Also, was cool being able to upload my original content like skate vids or stunts to the PSP and share them at school. I subbed to your channel cuz all the vids you make are dope and bring back good memories. Def gonna follow a few guides.
Great work Tito, as always. Man I loved the psp, MGS Peace Walker was stunning! I Modded my 2000 for a crystal clear shell, took out the UMD driver. Now it weight no more than a feather XD. PS: I hope to see your channel blow! You have my support
idk about anyone else but I never had PSP screen issues ever
Which model did you have?
I think each model is completely passable, but if any of them need an improvement it is the 1000 series.
Me I never had a PSP console ever,I held one and Played Metal Gear like just 10 minutes because i borrowed it from my cousin for awhile
Some have dead pixels though. Not many but they exist.
Same here, my 1000s screen was pretty good, I only had imperfections with the casing
Just a heads up the front flaceplate is only held in by 5 screws , you don't need to remove the silver screws unless you want to fix or remove the motherboard :)
Good to know! Thank you for the heads up!
thers 7 wtf u talking about
I recall there being only 3 of the 4 battery holes screwed in. So for whatever reason one was left empty. The small screw under the PSP does need to be removed to replace the faceplate, however I've seen two faceplates now with that bottom hole/latch/anchor thing broken. Thus the screw under the PSP doens't need to be taken out.
Thanks for the honest assessment. Boosts my trust.
Dude, you also did an iPod Gameboy? o-O I've not seen anyone else talk about that modification, good to see a fellow modder of many regards! Still need to get my hands on a PSP, I've got many projects in mind. Excellent video, keep up the good work!
If there was an IPS for the psp 3000 then it would be the best. As for the 1000 the lack of Ram and the recess Dpad and buttons makes it not worth the effort IMO.
And what’s the problem that you have with the lack of ram ?
@@aurelios69 load times takes longer and it doesnt work properly on certain emulators.
Yeah but the dac and amplified sound on the 1000 is worth it.
@@matthewjohnson1891 then again in the case of emulators most struggle playing at 44khz and the speaker design on the lower side it doesn't go much in their favor imo.

Haha nice!
ive done a few sega game gear lcd mods. this one looks so easy and could be put back to stock very quickly. i'll give it a try. thanks for video.
Thank you for the video
7:47 I don't know if it's due to my phone's AMOLED screen but isn't the IPS option tinted heavily green? I'd like to keep the colours as close as possible to the original vision of the game designers.
The green tint I think is caused by my camera. It’s not like that in person.
Not at all just your phone, I saw this too and it really made me question the differences. Seeing Macho reply and say it's from his camera, still makes me question how..... I just don't see how it isn't a real issue, no attack. I am just seriously curious.
@@allenslucher8555 its always gonna be different from the game designers "original vision"
A few years ago I bought the Mystic Silver PSP 3000 from Japan and got a good stack of games with it. When I got the PSP 1000 when it first came out, I bought Wipeout pulse and it was amazing and NFS Carbon after. I was on my psp so much at the time my parents took it away from me and returned it back to the store.
I didn't own the more retro handhelds as a kid (GBs, GGs) but I bought a PSP as a teenager and was a blast. Darkstalkers the chaos tower and Tekken Dark resurrection were my favorites. I am into fighting and shoot em ups, and have not seen or bought any shoot em up for my PSP. Needless to say Tito your content is excellent, cheers.
I'm stuck between the 2000 and 3000 for feature sets. If new panels could be made for those models, we'd be cooking with gas.
Thanks for the vid!
I did a pretty in depth overview a couple days back. The midway point I do a screen comparison. That’s the real difference. It might help you?
IMO BOTH are great. It comes down to your preference
@@TechGuyBeau I own both, but thanks for doing what you do!
You can use a standard no.2 graphite pencil to bridge the pads. It was always a great trick for creating a temporary pandora battery in the past.
Also Lord of Arcana was always my favourite game for the psp. The story was completely original, up to 4-player co-op missions and it was done in a similar style to the monster hunter psp games with a central hub for crafting weapons/armour, taking on missions, starting multiplayer lobbies, managing your equipped gear and an item storage system.
Dude you are a life saver. i messed up 2 psp's and was on my third trying to do this install and this trick worked and is so easy. no soldering needed at all.
@@robertbrewer5521 You're welcome. If you are unaware of why this works it's because graphite is a stacked crystalline form of carbon and it is a conductive mineral. Which makes it an effective solution for creating small electrical current lines.
I only found out about it because I bricked a psp back in 2011 and was trying to figure out how to fix it, Someone suggested I make a pandora battery by connecting the circuits that usually get crossed in factory made pandora batteries, I recalled that No.2 pencils contained lead and it's a conductive material, I learned that day that lead is just a name for graphite. So I tried it and had a working psp again within 20 minutes.
Hopefully Tito will see these comments and pin them so other people can benefit from this knowledge :)
Nice video and like the honest views. I will probably leave my screen alone for the moment, i need to replace the battery first :)
You should really do a video showing how you get such clean product shots for ur intros. They look absolutely amazing.
Your links to the ips screens are dead
I had my first PSP back in 2011 and yes, it is 1001 model like yours. They said 3000 models were better but I noticed that the performance is better than 3000 like playing God Eater Burst, Ace Combat X, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, NFS Carbon Own The City, SOCOM1-3, Parasite Eve The 3rd Birthday, Gran Turismo and more. So much fun while multiplaying with my classmates with their 2000 and 3000 model ver. Last time I played was mid 2016 before I send it to a friend of mine. So much nostalgia :')
Quality video!
I unironically love Metal Gear: Acid. Shit was so cash
the intro montage of handheld consoles itself deserves a Like!
I absolutely loved this console. Prob 2nd fav of all time. It has one of my fav games of all time too-Jeanne D’arc!
Crazy I have just bought 3 PSPs in the last 2 months! None are a 1000 though. I always thought the 2 and 3000 alleviated the ghosting issue of the original. I could be mistaken. Great video.

Thanks for your sincerity.
This channel deserves more subs.
Just finished this mod, I’m happy with the result. Those points to bridge are insanely small! Even with a microscope and tweezers it was pretty delicate.
the intro is so amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!
I had a friend in elementary who had one and I was so jealous, I've always wanted one but they were so pricy back in the day and over time other things took their place. I should pick one up at some point.
You make so high quality videos, i love your style (especially your intro :o). Maybe use seperate lights for back- and foreground, so your skin doesnt look so purple-ish. Definitely deserve more subs :) Anyways love from germany
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos!
PSP is one of my favourite consoles, and was certainly ahead of its time! Will have to pick up an IPS kit
Thank you for doing this. I’ve been eyeing the ips panel replacement hoping it would make the experience significantly better. I’ll hold onto my stock near mint screen for now. My wallet also thanks you.
You’re most welcome!
Now I need a PSP because I have a Japanese copy of Initial D Street Stage and it's been years I don't play it. This video motivates me to bought it again. Amazing video and greetings from Puerto Rico ✌️
Thank you Mario! I love initial d, the anime and the arcade. Years to play it in the arcade all the time before they all disappeared. Cheers!
I had no idea this had a replacement. nice
Cool vid! I just wanted to add that IPS panels have brighter colors and better contrast. Brighter colors! More red green and blue, I fell in love with In Plance Switching.
amazing intro!
I always had a soft spot for 300: March to Glory - such an underrated game. I’m glad you said this isn’t worth doing, I bought a brand new one last year for a steal and will keep it original.
Thumbs up to Tito. I have all the psp series but nothing compares to the heft and sturdyness from the 1k edition. Also the fact that the glas (well plastic...) From the screen and the surounding plastic is one peace was awesome. Sadly there are hardly any decent frontplates for this. I kinda wished boxypixel would give it some love.
My favourite game on the psp was metal gear solid acid strangly. It wasnt that great of a gzme but the graphics and tactics kept me playing it. Same goes for lumines. I totaly mastered that game! Great production value as always tito!
Ps: what would also be good as a video is: aftermarket battery comparisson. With all the original batterys going bad and all
For a channel with less than 100k subs, you have some high production value keep it up! Also the best game is FF tactics: War of the Lions
I loved my PSP, I was always big into the homebrew scene. Remember modding batteries to hack the PSP, how the 1000s had an IR blaster so it could act as a TV remote. Then the 2000s came out with component and composite out. Almost a decade later I picked up the 3000 and hated its screen. Briefly played with the "Go" with its awful proprietary memory which would carry over to the Vita and be its death knell. What a great system, which like the Vita was treated terribly by Sony.
would love to see more psp mods in the future
Getting rid of the ghosting is amazing. I really wish they'd release a PSP 2000 kit for this IPS. While it's not a very popular mod, I'd definitely do it to my PSP simply for GTA Vice City stories. Getting rid of the ghosting on there would be fantastic.
The idea of changing a damaged PSP screen with this IPS Mod is neat, but frankly I'd never do it in any other circumstance (I 100% agree with your bottom line). I've never considered the PSP screen ghosting a huge problem, it's noticeable but not horrible, and if I'm not mistaken, the Slim model has a better screen anyways; but the deal breaker for me is that a modded PSVita with Adrenaline turns the Vita into the best PSP ever, with a gorgeous and bigger new screen - no matter if we're talking about Oled or the LCD of the Vita slim, they're both fantastic.
Thanks for the video, very informative and very well shot! 🤝
I recently picked up a PSP-1001 with the intention of fixing it, as I hadn't owned one since back in 2009. The eBay seller listed it as broken, but they clearly didn't test it because it worked fine and even had a game still in it. I can't see myself doing this mod, unless as you mentioned, the screen gets dead pixels at some point. But either way, I like the brighter screen and somewhat reduced ghosting. It's cool to know that down the line, if my PSP screen goes belly-up, there are essentially modular, drop-in replacements for a reasonable price. Personal PSP favorites are Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow, Daxter, GripShift, and Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions -- but only after it's modded and patched to fix the dreadful slowdown issues.
Thanks for the comment! Totally agree, not an absolutely necessary mod, but it’s a great option if you need it. Those sound like great games! I still need to get FF tactics for the psp. Cheers buddy!
Dudddddde. The PSP had a bunch of my favorite games! Dead Head Fred, Twisted Metal, LocoRoco, Flow, Wipeout Pure, Medievil, Death Jr just to name a few. Awesome work!
