I'm not really sure if I recommend this "upgrade." Based on the images on the listings I found (including some listings offering to upgrade my PSP if I send it in), I should not be having that issue with the image being shifted up on the LCD. Aside from that issue though, the colors are definitely different and more saturated but I'm not sure I'd call it better. The OEM PSP 1K LCD is not bad so there's already a pretty high standard for improvement. If nothing else, at least the LCD is less than $3 per. It's definitely brighter though.

I went with the "1000 brightness IPS" screen.

For taobao, I generally use an agent to purchase through. I used superbuy in this case but I can't say I recommend them. I am going to be trying out new agents in the near future.
Anyway, what are your thoughts? Anything you want me to try out with this screen?

@@daniv8386 I don't know. I assume that it's nits but you'd have to ask the seller for more info.
Does the ips screen take more battery life?
One of those "Fantastic Nintendo dsd consoles"
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hahahahahahahahahahhahahaha
I searched for dsd for 1 hour in Internet but found nothing 😂
The psp 1000 horrible response times causing smearing was the biggest issue imo.
The reason why the brightness levels are different is because when the psp is plugged in it gets an extra level of brightness compared to the one unplugged at the top
You beat me to it. You need both to be plugged in for a fair comparison. One benefit of the newer models is AV output, which the Phat model doesn't have.
@@jimmimak And if you want to bring the screen to the brightest level of backlight, you need to custom firmware it, to unlock the brightest level of backlight. Anyway, about the 300x models, I understand why people don't like the 300x screens, maybe because the scanlines texture clarity, but to be honest, scanlines never bother me, I still use my 3001 for the most times, than the 200x models, now, obviously, this doesn't mean I don't like the 200x models, I use them as well, but I use more my 3001 often, as I have more content! :D
The weight of the original 1000 is much more comfortable.
I very liked PSP Street. Even when i had 3004 In the same Room.
@@HuraganPrzesteru how could you prefer that fugly thing? its the cheapest feeling PSP out of all of them, has the least amount of features, it has a not so good, not even loud enough single mono speaker, lack of TV connection support and from my understanding it has an even worse scanlines issue than the psp 3000 series
For me better experience. I mean- my hands Love this material And thicknest of Street. Just more comfortable for me.
@@HuraganPrzesteru Yeah i agree, also + the fact that the street mat black instead of the normal fingerprint-magnets (1k, 2k, 3k)

The level of clumsy going on here is adorable. Keep up the good work!
I have a PSP 3000. perfect condition and original battery which still seems in top condition. But! Picking up an exceptional psp 1002 tomorrow! Just because its the same as I had when I was in early high school. I remember my original one I smashed the screen...psp was in my pocket and it hit something while I was walking! I bought a replacement screen and fitted it. Didn't seem difficult at all. So just thinking I'd like to get an upgraded screen for the one I pick-up tomorrow! It charges and holds charge and apparently its had very little use in its life. Thanks for the video. Enjoy watching your content. I did my GBA SP 001 with a 10 brightness level LCD. What a difference!
Personally I still prefer psp for playing regular old psp games due to the perfect vita screen showing off more of the jaggy pixels even larger
Your Nintendo DSD is the left handed model. Look how the face buttons are on the left.
I like the 1000 series chunk factor, since I have big hands. It makes it more comfortable for me to use.
I love my 1000
As a kid my 2000 felt great. As an adult, a 1000 now feels better in my hands, I like the ridges on the battery cover and other back plate more, better grip in the hands there. So for me the 1000 is the best UMD drive model, the Go is the best after that for its originality
After watching your last vid, I think an IPS mod for original DS would be a more interesting option than PSP, which already has a great screen.
Omg I would pay so much for that to get in IPS on a ds lite or dsi bro
@@johnharrington87 dsi already have an IPS screen
@@gotpixeled I meant like a High quality ips screen like the one of the GBA mods
john harrington just get a new 3ds off eBay with an IPS top. You don’t look at the bottom too much so I find it a really nice compromise. I personally have an XL model and play in pixel perfect mode.
@@johnharrington87 The DSI already does have great screens, the original DS has abysmal screens on the other hand
That’s BEAUTIFUL!
If I remember correctly the PSP 1000 has two different screens depending on the region of the PSP. The 1000 Western ones have the Samsung Screens (they look kinda washed out) and the Japanese ones have Sharp screens which have (arguably) the better colors.
This one was a Sharp. I'll take apart my US 1K and see if it has the same screen.
And for those who didn't see the part 2 video despite all the links, spoiler alert, it was the same screen.
Either way, they have extreme ghosting issues.
I was wondering about the ips screen for my psp 1000 (I have it since the premiere), he survived a dog attack, but it pisses me off how the image is blurry when moving. I know it's old equipment, but even today I look at gba with ips v2 from FP. It is a bit of a regret that psp does not have a good display. In Poland, maybe it can be bought in a few years, or on Aliexpress.
Gotta love the thiccie DSD 1000
did you not solder the little pins like i’ve seen other videos of people do? or is it not necessary?
The psp 2000 which I have is a real Mirror. Even in daylight on highest brightness is hard to see something.
Does anyone know a good website to buy psp games from? And also a new front shell because mine is pretty scratched up
The oem screen is quite good but the ghosting isn't great. It's not exactly a game gear though.
I just ordered a totally mint PSP 1000 because I have been feeling nostalgic. Now I am wondering if I should install this screen? Can anyone who has done this give me some input about the battery life difference after the install? Also where can I send my PSP to have this done because I have no assembly skills whatsoever.
Hey! Which one did you buy? There seems to be a few different (I assume) nit options. General, 500 and 1000.
1000
Why was the ips screen in top the battery sign place was cut off, however the bottom was in lieu of a black section, how comes?and how to adjust it, or it was this ips unfit the original system ?
I want to fix my screen because it has little tiny lines all over the screen that look like the spots on your phone screen when you get grease on your screen from food
Does the screen work without soldering? I just want to replace my broken screen
Hello, do your's PSP IPS screen suffers from image retention too?
Hi, makho. Do you know what kind of a screen is this? By the adaptor we can assume it was not originally meant for PSP? Maybe we can get it even cheaper. :)
I wish there was an IPS screen version for PSP 3000 available...
no idea what the specific LCD is for, no. Could be anything, even a coffee maker.
Ohhhhhhhh this looks like fun. Wonder if there are any new developments on this.
wow it looks great. thanks for video
does the ips have the same ghosting problem as the original display?
I got bought a PSP recently, but the image is not as clear as I remember the PSP to have. You can clearly see the pixels like scan lines and while having a grey or green theme the letter on the menu become barely readable. I don't know if it was always like that with the PSP 3000, or have I grown too accustom to HD, 4K and such that the difference has become jarring?
He talks about this in the video. It was the criticism in the reviews of the 3000 when it came out.
@@RetroDawn It was a faulty PSP, I returned it and got a another one.
I LOVE the 1000 shape and weight , it's built like a tank. The grip doesn't hurt my hands for long game play
My 3000 units are all very noisy cause the plastic is so weak. BUT the biggest issue is that the 3000s disc drive is trash and always stop working. My 1000 runs quite while reading the disc's. The screen blur is annoying but its not that big a deal. I think the 2000 is good medium still a bit chunky yet brighter.
That said the replacement looks good and the new ribbon mod is a huge deal so way much better.
Screen blur gives the 1000 even more charm.
I still prefer the 1000 screen. The 2000 had bigger gaps between each pixel if I remember correctly. (Cool mod btw)
That was the 3000, not the 2000 IIRC... The 1000 came with a by now dated, but very high quality SHARP panel, the 2000 was kinda meh in the color quality department and the 3000 had a much better screen colors -wise, but had a weird pixel matrix (it was intended for vertical, rather than horizontal orientation and looked like a weird interlaced image)
The biggest flaw I see with the IPS mod is that the whole display is shifted up a couple mm, you can see when browsing the XMB menu, the top row of icons are sligthly cut off and there's a visible black border on the bottom of the screen.
part 2
@@makho Yup, I watched part 2 right after this and was like "well that comment was redundant"
Hi, would an oled for switch be possible? Thats like my real only complain about it, with one it would be really the best
Possible, yes, but unlikely. Someone would need to manufacture a new LCD or find an existing LCD with the proper size and spec and make an active adapter to make it fit. Neither are within my skill set but it's not impossible.
Does this effect the battery life at all
Did they ever revise the square button on the later PSP-1000s? I had a launch unit with a sticky square button but then my later one from 2007 has no issues at all. Not tempted to open it up to check since it's fully functioning.
I haven't heard that was an issue. It's certainly never been an issue on my units.
@@makho They probably just found a way to make a better contact with the buttons despite being offset. But the launch PSPs had sticky square buttons, dead pixels and a potential for UMDs to be sent flying out. I tried replicating that with mine at the time for fun but couldn't do it though haha.
in the recovery menu there is an option to swap around X and O for accepting and going back in the main menu.
why is that in the recovery menu...?
Is there a shell with glass for these as the acrylic always scratches so easily?
no
Got my 1002 today. Just finished modding it. Got Liberty city stories and a couple other games with it. Screen looks amazing compared to the 3000. Although it does seem to ghost a fair bit noticeable in GTA. How's the replacement LCD? Even if same quality, a bit brighter and ghosting free would be worth it??
my opinion of PSP consoles i pretty low but the screen is nice. I don't think it's worth upgrading a PSP though, it's better to just buy a better system like a Vita
@@makho yeah already have a vita 1000. It's lovely and have the psp emu on it. But its just not the same. 😅 despite being better in every way. Lol. Yeah psp not the greatest screens I agree although they old AF now.
@@robthomson1581 Yeah, nothing beats running on actual hardware instead of emulation.
The original PSP screen was made by Sharp so obviously it holds up good
It's still a LCD from 2005 and the industry didn't quite have LCD tech figured out until later. I mean, the replacement LCD looks like it's from the same era too so it's not that much better but still.
you forgot to bridge a connection on the motherboard to center the image, its on the taobao site for the LCD adapter.
I did, yes. I'm working on that right now.

Can this mod work on the slim models?
you didn’t solder the mother board pins that’s why the screen don’t match up and is off
No way, you think?
hello. If you look closely at this replaced ips liquid crystal, the screen is shifted upward. It seems that such a phenomenon occurs when the main body version is close to the latest. However, it seems that the position of the screen returns when the point on the main board is shorted with solder. I think you can do it, so I would be happy if you could make a video when you have time.

Lol love the intro. What battery do you recommend? Mine doesn't seem to hold a charge and wondering where to get replacements.
The battery situation on the PSP is an absolute mess. I cannot recommend any batteries because I have not found any good ones.
@@makho What about Cameron Sino brand? They make PSP 1000 batteries I haven't bought one yet but considering.
lol you can mod your own batteries into it..i once did long ago when i was i high school cos too much fake batteries. you should check the capacity though
@@neocortez9254 I did that on my 2k, it still doesn't fix the issue. The PSP has active circuitry in the battery boards (which are required to use batteries) and this active circuitry just eats batteries up whether you are using the console or not.

I Love the PSP. About the X and O, If you have CFW, In the Recovery Menu you can swap those around regardless if you have US or JPN model. Also, Infinity is only Useful on PSP 2000 TA-88 v3, PSP 3000, PSP Street and PSP Go that don't support Permanent CFW like PSP 1000 and PSP 2000 v2 and V1. You should install ME CFW or Pro CFW on that PSP 1000.
And about sa IPS Mod, kinda disappointing, not as good as the Mods on the GB, GBC, DMG, GBA and GBA SP.
You know that infinity supports all psp models now and even on the psp street it can be made permanent now?
D. T. Yes I know. But the infinity 2.0 isnt a permanent CFW like on the PSP 1000 and PSP 2000. Meaning it just launch LCFW at boot time. If you compare the boot time of Infinity and Permanent CFW like ME, Permanent CFW is faster.
That memory card was out of my 3K. My other memory cards have different CFW installers on them.
@@makho Do you have proper Pro Duo cards or do you have adapters? I have a proper 16gb Pro Duo but last year I got an adapter with a 64gb micro SD.
