    I installed a JBL BassPro SL2 powered subwoofer on my 2016 Volkswagen e-Golf (non Fender audio) by tapping the front speaker output wires and connecting them directly to the sub’s high level input.
    I noticed the head unit output now clips at a much lower volume and it gets unusually hot. It is almost impossible to set the sub amp gain as the levels are all over the place and slight changes to the amp gain cause the sub to cut in and out.
    I verified the polarity of all connections on both ends and everything seems alright. I would assume tapping into the speaker outputs effectively lowers the impedance seen by the head unit onboard amp causing it to go crazy.
    Wondering if using an Audiocontrol LC2i instead connecting directly to the sub’s high level input would make any difference.

      You could use either one, but many times the front door speakers have a more useable frequency range and your aftermarket system will often sound better using that front door signal rather than the ohm sub signal. You could certainly try it with either and compare though, it won't hurt anything.

    Question? When hooking up speaker inputs, does it matter what stage you use to hook up the lc2i! Like does the product need to be hooked up to the front stage wiring or rear? Does it matter?

    • @AudioControlCar
      @AudioControlCar  Před 3 lety +2

      Good question! It really depends on what you're using the LC2i for. If you are just adding a subwoofer amplifier/sub, then it really doesn't matter, so long as the signal you tie into has enough bass information present. If you are using the LC2i to add a full range 2ch or 4ch amplifier, the same applies. You would just want to be sure to tie into a signal that has the correct audio information present. Also, be aware that depending on what channels you use for signal, your fader may affect the output of your aftermarket amplifier/subwoofer.

    Why does the lc2i put out signal at power on with the volume all the way down? You can see it in the RTA in the video @ 2:52.I can hear it, through my woofers. it’s a low hum!

    • @AudioControlCar
      @AudioControlCar  Před 3 lety +1

      Generally, this is due to most source units still putting out some signal, even with the volume all the way down. If you want to eliminate this, you can use a true turn on lead rather than using the signal sensing GTO turn on. Many times the hum heard in demo/training videos is produced by the 110v to 12vdc power supply, which wouldn't be an issue in an actual vehicle, of course.

    JD1000.1 pushing 15" Kicker CVX, with LC2i
    1000 x 2 = 2000.
    sqrt2000 = ~44.7 = target voltage
    So I:
    -75% volume 50hz test tone
    -Set LC2i just a hair before 'maximized' light turns on.
    -Amp gain all the way down still reads about 56, higher than voltage.
    (ALSO - do I set inputs to low level when running from LC2i? - is this where my issue lies?)
    BUT, if I set gain to hit the clipping indicator light on the amp itself, the voltage reaches like 75.
    As of now, it sounds way underpowered. I had a 12" with 400 watts and that was louder. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and what I'm missing.
    A little confused why these two numbers would be vastly different - target voltage v. clipping light voltage.

    • @SoDiezl350
      @SoDiezl350 Před 4 lety

      If you're only using the LC2I for an aftermarket sub, then the best place to tap into the speaker would be at the high level sub input.On my f30 bmw I was never able to get the lc2i to read the preamp signal coming from the head unit. On certain factory stereos, the head unit needs to see a load. The lc2i pro has an adjustable load feature, but the unit shown here does not.

    • @AudioControlCar
      @AudioControlCar  Před 3 lety +1

      Generally speaking, in most all vehicles, you'll want to obtain your signal for the LC2i or LC2i PRO from the output side of the factory amplifier. A line output converter like these is taking a high level signal and converting it to a low level signal. So chances are, you won't want to use the low level signal going into your OEM amp for signal. You'd end up with little to no volume.

    • @AudioControlCar
      @AudioControlCar  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, start with the gain knob on your amplifier in it's lowest position. There are output controls on the top of the LC2i- MAIN and BASS. The MAIN knob controls the output level of the MAIN output RCAs and the BASS knob controls the output level of the BASS output RCAs. So the two knobs correspond to the two pairs of RCA outputs. I’m very confused I had this installed by a friend who is knowledgeable but here is my question. It says it only puts out 400W per channel. I am only using the subwoofer channel right now. I have it connected to an amp that can put out up to 1400W. But since the audiocontroller can only put out 400W isn’t that limiting my amp to 400W?

    • @AudioControlCar
      @AudioControlCar  Před 3 lety +2

      The AudioControl LC2i (and most other AC products) can handle 400 watts of INPUT to their speaker level inputs and convert it into up to 9.5 volts of RCA low level output. Basically, taking an unusable factory signal and converting it into a usable signal your aftermarket amplifier can handle. The LC2i will have no effect on the actual wattage produced by your amplifier. It will work with a 100w amplifier or a 10,000 watt amplifier, but it will handle the signals the same way. So thankfully, your 1400w amp is not being limited in any way. You're on the right track, just getting a little mixed up in the specs/terminology. Hope that helps!

    • @JerseyPiney

      You can run on knob from either one that you want. You don’t need one on both. Either or do the same exact thing.

    • @MidnightMarrow
      @MidnightMarrow Před 4 lety +1

      In theory the LC2i is a cleaner source so boosting it before the amp might be more ideal, though I'm not 100% certain. But boosting a signal can add noise and with that could cause clipping and the like. So if the LC2i is indeed cleaning up and processing the audio, boosting it there might be where you'd want to do it while keeping the amp neutral.

    • @JerseyPiney
      @JerseyPiney Před 4 lety

      MidnightMarrow the Bass knob for both are just attenuators. They don’t actually boost anything at all. Maxed out they just match whatever signal the output knob is set to. So the addition of one would just give you the option to lower output at the twist of a knob.

      Shouldn't be an issue, from what we understand of Kicker's Key technology. The LC2i's BASS outputs are set at 30hz-1khz, and the MAIN output is full-range, from 30hz-20khz. Of course, all of this will depend on the signal being fed to the inputs of the LC2i.

      Bass is not always mono, even if it doesn't make sense. Some tracks will sometimes favor right channel, other songs will favor left channel, and i noticed this when i set stereo subs to my home audio system.
      When you connect both channels to lc2i, i suspect, you get a proper mono, so your bass will work the same no matter how the song is mastered.
