- The last Grand Slam Final between Federer and Nadal.
Tennis fans witnessed epic matches during the golden age of the Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal rivalry, but they saw a different kind of classic in the 2017 Australian Open final. This time it was the Swiss pulling out a five-set championship against the Spaniard for the first time in nearly a decade.

How lucky I am to have grown up watching Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. Once in a lifetime trio. Unreal.
seriously, once in a lifetime in any sport. period.
Well put. Forget the dreadful 'GOAT' arguments. They're all legends.
@@michaelfoley906 I'll forget shit. You were all saying GOAT for Fed for a decade. And now when, first Nadal, and then Djoko, surpassed him, now let's forget. You sound like a Rolex commercial.

That fifth set man, just cant stop to watch it again and again
Everyone in the world knew Federer was physically spent and mentally psyched out by years of Nadal 5th set torment. But somehow... He did something amazing.
I won’t ever think there is, has been, or will be a better rivalry in the game than these two. The story lines. The contrasting styles. The different skill sets. Such an incredible display of the game at the highest level- tactically, skillfully, but most importantly aesthetically.
Federer is simply a legend
When 19 years old Federer taking down Pete Sampras in Wimbledon, and that's when the start was born...
This is therapy for that Wimbledon final defeat.

Apart from that girl behind Mirka in Roger's box, closing her eyes right on one of the most insane and significant rallies in whole tennis history LOL🤣
Federer-Nadal-Djokovic: the greatest era in sports history. Thank you for the memories.
Borg mcenroe connors lendl.
This match is truly a legend.
I've never seen a tennis match so crying.
The fifth set was crying all the time.
Seems like you didn’t watch 2012 AO final.

Crying?... Pathetic
Wimbledon 2019
It's funny how djoker fans get into the conversation... And I am a defender of Nole with my group of tennis friends lol, but this is diferent, before the domain of Djokovic there was the Fedal rivalry and watching this after so many years of not seeing them fighting for finals and as you can see they were under 20 rank, Roger and Rafa came from injury that they after said they never expected to be again in a Grand Slam finals or be in the top again... so this final has a lot of conext out there that makes more special than other final, without demerit just for the time they were playing or the intensity in every point like the 2012 AO final @@krish5608... And I repeat, im a fan from Nole too, I'm just saying try to open your mind a little bit, expand yourself friend and enjoy everything we have in tennis.
the most incredible and intensive final i've ever seen !!! the whole world was crying of joy ! roger is the best player ever.
They say you don't know what you've got till it's gone.
I miss these guys and the intensity they brought to the game.
One of the all time best finals.
The best 5th set he has ever played, and more specifically the 8th game. I can't get enough of this match
Brutal mental resilience from Roger in that fifth set.
man, what an unbelievable match. I watched it live and rewatching I still got all the tension, all the emotion as if i'd never seen these points before. Nadal and Federer gave us some epic matches. Tennis isn't the same without you Federer, I was blessed to watch you and I hope these matches remain available for generations to come.
You look at today's matches , played from meters behind the baseline and hitting long meaningless diagonals... than you look back to this thing, and it looks like a different sport, or just another league on its own.
The point, beginning at 6:58, is a work of sheer artistry - even by Federer's standards.
A brilliant upload, by the way.
Not to mention, the shot that Federer hits to win the point that starts at 16:33.
Starting to think, now, that this may be Federer's greatest ever performance.
It was the point that made me ask "Wait... can he really do it?" while watching.
Easily one of the greatest matches of ALL TIME
The greatest AO final of all time. For this final easily beat Djokovic vs Nadals in 2011.
@@xaviermill7440 no way
@@xaviermill7440 This isn't even the best final Federer and Rafa played there. People tend to speak so highly of this one only because Roger won.
@@HBK492 agreed. But just Fed fanboys really. No one really even thinks of this match when talking about great matches. This was meh at best. A terribly rusty Nadal using old faithful all over to take this to 5 sets, is just about the only thing to speak about in this match. Mediocre tennis, albeit from the 2 greatest players to ever play this game.
@Sam McPhail yeah. Even the points you talk about that Federer won, he was doing all of that in every other match too against Nadal. But Rafa wasn’t running them down like he usually does, coming back from injury and all. This was the match that left me truly disappointed about the state of tennis today. I mean I could understand the argument in the previous years when these three were winning everything in sight, the argument that they were so ridiculously better than everyone else. But I’m sorry, the rest of you in the to 50, if you can’t beat THIS version of Federer and Nadal, it’s a pathetic indictment of you. This entire Australian Open was the worst I have seen Nadal, especially, play in the last five years
Watched it on a snowy mountain in switzerland with my best friend. I'll never forget that day.
You mean your boyfriend Haha
Love watching these 2 guys go at it. Both just amazing. The crowd watching are the real winners in all honesty.
One of the best matches I have ever seen.
They had met before in summer when Rafa opened his academy, and Federer was his guest. They were both injured at that time, and joked around, if they would be fit again for the AO. They were.
Rafa said after the match that he thought Federer deserved to win a little bit more than he on this day. Great sport from true Titans.
I remember crying hard when he finally won............ Definitely one of the best matches in tennis history...
i hope he can win slams again 🙏🐐❤️
Seriously? Crying "hard"?
@@johnjohnnie7319 Yes..
Lol this is no way one of the best match
@@kothicamedarth2680 Lol it actually is.
The is BY FAAAAAAAAAAAR the most beautiful and the most joyful-to-watch tennis court in the whole world. Such a nice selection of colors for the outer and inner court, and the contrast with the yellow ball. And those pink shoes of the 2 players.
Roland garros 2021 is for me the best ! Camera angle, clay court coulour, when its shiny and players have great outfits its just beautiful
@@romainmj7245 It is easier to spot the ball at RG too. Toughest to spot on tv at Wimbledon. However, yellow ball against sea blue background feels the best to me to watch on tv/online, than yellow ball against red clay background. Not about preference. I'm referring to the clarity of vision of ball's trajectory in the background color of a court's surface. :)
@@madhukiranattivilli2321 yeah i get your point ! To me rg is just best looking court espacially 2021 ! Lets take rg 2021 final for exemple

From 2017 to 2022
Rafael Nadal reached 10 grandslam finals and won 8 major titles actually lost 2 Grandslam finals only
5 French open finals
3 Australian open finals
2 US Open finals
3 Wimbledon semifinals.
"I have no answer to roger's backhand"
~ Raphael Nadal ~
being a Fed supporter, I have learned to respect Rafa for who is his even even more. But the Fed backhand in this tournament, and throughout 2017 is one of the most beautiful shots I have ever ever seen. May not be as effective as Djoko's backhand when it comes to consistency, but it was exactly what he needed to beat the guy who always exploited his weakness of looping topspin shot to the backhand side. I am not sure if I will be able to follow tennis after these guys retire. Theim gives me hope cause I love his stroke making ability. If only Kyrgious was consistent. I shall stop blabbering
@Felix Y it's "Rafael". next, to Osman, Haq, it's "Thiem" and "Krygios"
The official narrator and commentator openly cheering for Federer. 😂
Man 07:16...I do not think we will ever see a player like Roger in a long time. So beautiful when he moves and his backhand...when his backhand is on...he is damn near unstoppable. The GOAT for sure!
I would’ve watched this match 2017 times :)... It’s incredible how Roger could elevate his game, especially back hand & coming out from injury, and overcome his great rival for good after this match. Will be one of the most satisfying feeling and achievement for his considering he had to do that the hard way.
watch it 2017 times. then u might shut up and see how boring it is
Me avisas cuando vayas por la 2000
Who is here missing Roger at the AO 2021?
This is probably Federer's best match -- unbelievable win.
I still get goose bumps
My favourite Fedal match of all time. Wimby 08 and AO 09 may have been better in quality, but this one just felt different. It was healing.
Federer played better here than in those 2 matches imo. Backhand especially. But Nadal was still a shell of his old self here. It took him a bit longer to get back to his top form
@@kakashihatake1029 No way tbh.. Federer and nadal of 2009 AO would have beaten both these versions of themselves.. maybe fed's backhand was better here, but every other part of his game was miles better in 2009.. just rewatch 2009 AO final, both players were in their prime and way better
Healed until wimby 19 that is
wimby lmao dont u love when people try cute names to be cool. then again anyone who finds tennis healing...
@@armadyl1212 that day in 2009, Federer didn't have a good day at the serve, and overall his gameplan vs Rafa was not the best in my opinion. There was already some good evidence that hitting huge drives vs Rafa's forehand was more effective than bombing his backhand (and far more natural for a right handed player, we can add), but just Ljubicic managed to convince Roger to fully embrace this gameplan and completely commit to it. The result were amazing, from this final onwards his backhand always remained a constant danger for Rafa every time they played again... in this match, apart from direct winners, thanks to those insane drives Roger took the lead of rallies or unbalanced Rafa literally countless times. He's always been able to hit extremely fast backhands, even when his shot was not as insane like it's here... he should've tried this gameplan way before in my opinion, instead of allowing Rafa to stay into so many long grueling crosscourt rallies.
Y pensar que federer ya tenia, casi 35 años. Y los otros jovencitos con 28, 29. Increíble Federer. Otra generación

Best tennis match of all time!
The fact that the tennis gods gave us this, one last time before Roger retired was truly a treat of a lifetime, a chance to have a trip back down memory lane before saying goodbye to our childhood heroes!
The tennis God's gave us heartbreak in the Wimbledon finals of 2019, that's the last Grand slam where Roger had Novak on the ropes, I hate the tennis Gods for this, I hope Federer finds some answers in the afterlife, or gets some happy ending, even Laver Cup was messed up, serving on match point, some jinx is on him!
Best highlights because of 60fps and duration! 👍
WoW! Absolutely epic. Two legends/maestro's of the game. Well done, BOTH players!
One of the all time best tennis matches I've ever seen. They were hitting shots as a matter of course that 90% of ranked players couldn't get back. Obviously, they are both gifted, but I think Federer edges out Nadal because he's got a bit more killer instinct. For example, when the heat is up Federer starts playing at the net a lot more, and he usually wins those points (Nadal does go to the net as often). Also, his backhand is far deadlier than Nadal's. Lastly, his ball placement is just more surgical and deadly. Kyrgios was comparing "the big three" and he said Federer was the best because he'd run you off of the court and make you feel stupid. That's what I'm getting at.
Nadal gets the edge because he has more grand slams. He also takes the H2H 24 to 16.
@@vf2660 Way too much clay. Federer is really the more gifted to ever pick a racket, thus he will not lasts with more major titles due to irrelevant young players who can't beat 35+ fossils.
@@LC95297 you seem really pathetic trying to rationalize this. Clay titles aren't any less valuable than grass titles. In fact, the legacy that Rafa has left behind dominating on clay surface is LEGENDARY. Experts would agree that clay is the most physical of all the court types. But w.e. You're not changing my mind. 🤷♀
@@vf2660 You're making a movie to yourself. I never said that clay is less valuable (?!) than grass or even hard, what I'm talking about is a strict fact : two third of Nadal titles are on clay. Is there really a thing you don't get in this simple statement ?
@@LC95297 “way too much clay” implies it. And “making a movie to yourself” doesn’t even make any sense. Clearly you’re the one that doesn’t “get” it. Nadal and Federer were obviously both greats in Tennis. Fact is Nadal beat Federer a lot more than Federer beat Nadal. And that’s what gives him the edge. Pretty simple. Any other kind of justification is a matter of opinion or a moron trying to rationalize away. That’s it.
Bro I remember watching this game until the break of the first game of 5th set... I couldn´t handle the nerves and I went to "sleep" but keep watching with one eye open and other closed lol...
Wow, thank you so much making this video! Such amazing high quality and also in 60FPS! I’ve been waiting a great tennis video like this!
Ive never cared for the G.O.A.T. debate.
Nole is number one. Roger and Rafa 2 & 3, no matter order.
BUT i watch tennis for its beauty.
And Roger will always be, to me, the most beautiful player to watch.
28:44 Chum jetze!!! Title nr. 18. That was one of the most beautiful finals for me as a hardcore RF fan. The newly flattened and more consistent bh won him the title. Rafa probably thought he could play the same pattern as always (heavy topspin fh cross on Roger's bh). What also strikes me the most how RF was at all times no more than 1m away from the baseline. Amazing footwork and timing. That's the GOAT stuff. I remember losing my voice in the 5th ;)
No matter how many matches I watch, this is the best one.
Fed's backhand was next level in this one
Untouchable talent. Love these two
Well, I was just trying to take a quick look for few points since I have watched the points for so many times, just end up watching every second of this long video again.
same for me hahah. so much quality in this match. and when we thought they're over. they came back from injury. i hope roger came back winning slams like rafa and nole to continue the dream of the greatest players of all time
Roger's backhand in the 5th set made all the difference.
Epic match. One of the best I have ever watched
amazing edit. Nadal is pure class. Fed is the most complete player ever.
I think he wasn't the same player he was in 2019 as he was in 2017.
2017 he peaked, and it was truly amazing to see him come back after 5 years with no slams. That's just incredible. Go Roger!
Wimbledon 2019 was higher quality, up until the match points, and I'll never forgive the tennis Gods for that dastardly blow, they really disgust me.
@@pauljohnson6019there’s no ‘god’, federer crumbles to pressure. He has lost 24 matches having matchpoints, the most out of the big 3
(Djokovic 3, Nadal 8)
he played another style of tennis, but his real peak was 2004-2007. In that time he was nearly unbeatable.
Probably my favourite match of all time
Fed's crosscourt backhand was never better !
Such a tough loss for Rafa. I thought for sure he was going to pull through here. I feel like this loss flipped their rivalry around. A few tight wins against Roger on clay early in their careers gave Rafa the mental advantage. Now, Federer found his confidence against Rafa and leads their overall head to head on all surfaces except clay.
You still shouldn't deny the fact that Roger has been Rafa's slave from 2004 to 2017 (including his prime). He owned him at AO (3-0), RG (6-0), also defeated him in his prime at Wimbledon. Imagine what would he have also done to him if they would've met at the USO (Rafa's second most successful GS after RG) in these years. Their H2H would've been something like 28-10 LMFAO.
@@seboskribanek6890 the reason they didn't meet at the USO was because Rafa couldn't make finals lmao.

2015 - L to Fognini 3R
2016 Federer injured and didn't play, 2017 Fed lost to bloody Millman.

@@anonymousLeroy "Federer choked against Djokovic twice" what a BS LMAO. He is just Djoko's slave from 2009 too. The one and only Slam final he has won against Djokovic was in 2007 at the USO far before Djokovic's breakthrough. Since then he has also been Djoko's slave just like Nadal's from 2004 to 2017. We can talk about who's the GOAT, titles are clear and Djokovic is the first, Nadal the second and Roger the third.
But just this man in some days of his prime can play like this. Magic without grunt and almost without sweat. When his foot are wellplaced, he can send the ball where he want and how he want. He can get sometimes a wrong choice, but never a wrong execution.

Federer is diabolical. There is videos out there where yo see him smile while the point is being played as if he knew the outcome. In this match, there is some very brief moments where it seems he could have probably finish the point earlier, but then, this is only my opinion.
