Fun note about this book: This is the same event that leads to Eric O'Grady becoming Ant-man
Kitty Pryde can also walk on air. She hasn’t done it in a while but it is a part of her abilities. Most writers forget about that ability just like they seem to have forgotten that Nightcrawler becomes invisible in the shadows.
hahaha I love that "vaguelly describing the mutant power" part... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Konichiwa, Bub."
Ethan is one lab accident away from being a super-villain. ;-)
Wolverine’s mutant power description should read being the best there is at what he does. Nothing else
It should read "snikt" + healing
Getting "Physical" with Ethan near the end
Cool.
Yeah it was
Man I always forget how many comics john romita jr has actually worked on. He must be your most covered artist on back issues.
Like or hate his work you can’t argue with his legacy.
"And it's John Romita Jr so they look inhuman."
LMFAO!
I cried tears at work.
Kitty Pryde is able to walk on air, it's an ability she was described as having in the 90s and shown during Gambits return arc after The Trial of Gambit. So, she can create a foundation to stand on literally out of thin air.
The Wolverine brainwashed by Hydra idea is actually a throwback to a scuttled Chris Claremont plot. He intended his run to end with Xavier and the ShadowKing killing each other, Wolverine brainwashed by Hydra, eventually breaking free and the love triangle resolved with Logan ending up with Jean and a post Civil War style status quo, where half the mutants are outlaws and the other half are tools for world governments. Some of this worked it's way into Claremonts X-Men Forever series, but Claremont added and changed things because he'd mentioned his derailed plans for his grand finale prior.
The Northstar death is also notable for pissing people off for being seen as insensitive. Northstar was the first openly gay Marvel hero and between this series, Ultimate X-Men and X-Men: The End / Book One, Northstar was killed 3 times I believe in the same month. Which speaks to his rise in prominence since Chuck Austen brought him into the X-books, but it was seen as in bad taste by some at the time. Realistically, I don't think you can apply a protected class status if you want equality for storytelling opportunities for all characters in fiction, so that seems like a flaw to me, with the notion that Northstar should've been spared, particularly when all the stories feature multiple deaths and his is given extra weight in story each time (the loss of Ultimate Colossus' lover, in The End saving Cyclops and being reunited in the afterlife with his Alpha Flight teammates and in this, with the effect on Kitty and relevance in the second half of the story against Logan).
This episode was great. And that tangent at the end about Kitty was super interesting.
Well since no one else said it " Getting Physics with Ethan"
Just watched the first few minutes but wow, Millar lifted the entire opening concept directly from the Kurosawa movie "High and Low" right down to the guy being a chauffer.
X-23 should keep the Yellow Suit and Wolverine should keep the Brown Suit... I've always liked the brown one better.
X23 looks better in X-Force colors but I'd like to see her in a version of the yellow suit. Kinda want Daken to make a return. Maybe give him the X-Force suit.
Shawn Zamir FFXV There’s an entire series with her in the yellow and blue suit. Turns out the suit is much more fitting on a female.
@@ShawnWeeded510 I like the brown suit on Wolverine idk it has a nostalgic/vintage feel to it plus I think it would look better in live action than the yellow.
iBourne xx 1994 amen to that!
Yea, I like the Brown Suit for Logan. For Laura I've always liked her X force Suit except for the weird red goggles. I feel like the yellow suit is a little too bombastic for Laura.
34:00 | I've ALWAYS thought about that kinda stuff with Sue, like she should be way more badass than she's often portrayed. That's so dope.
From Tiff's stream to Back Issues. This is the life.
There was a comic where someone DOES Cut through atoms, using Excalibur.
The Muslim Captain Britain did it a lot.
I remember there being tie-ins to this in other titles, like they would just be going about their normal adventures and then suddenly Wolverine shows up and fights them and they are like "that was weird" and go about their business
While I don't agree with Northstar, this is Wolverine we're talking about. You can hit him as hard as you want and not worry about killing him, that's kind of his whole point
Whats funny is that you trying to explain Kitty Prydes powers reminds me so much of a character from My Hero Academia called Mirio. They even explain the thing where he has to control his power extremley precisely so he doesnt accidentally fall through the Earth, or how he needs to make his foot tangible again when stepping through a wall.
OMG, I love this story! Mark Millar has written some very silly stuff, but his Superman & Wolverine were pretty spectacular. Most of his main DC & Marvel stories were, of course!
Wolverine can be beat anyone
Except Mysterio
Only so long as the writer wants to make it appear that way. But not really. The character has become hyper popular over 30 years. And the movies have added onto that popularity. But that is wearing thin to us comic book readers who see thru the gimic..To many great other heroes that are being down played to this. Not a good thing. Great character but far from unbeatable, far from unkillable. Not even Superman is un-killable.
@@antonioallen1763 i think it was a joke
God I love this trade.
One of the better Mark Millar & John Romita Jr runs.
"I don't care how many people die as long as Wolverine isn't one of them".
~ Kitty Pryde in this story
You again?
@@da5hainy556 Hes just some guy...with a mustache
Holy crap. We finally got the “story for another time” from the Days of Future Past episode.
I remember way back in the storyline Apocalypse the 12 (Which was dealing with another brainwashed Wolverine) Kitty had phased her body to protect herself from Wolverine (who was Death at the time) and he tells her to the effect of, "Your body might be phased, but you still need to keep your feet solid to stand on the ground" and proceeds to stab her feet with his claws
I remember this being a great series when it came out. I remember reading how Claremont had wanted to do something like this to Wolverine at some point.
First we had "Airport Magicians", now we have "mob churches". I love these new phrases!
I love the ending when you guys just talk about a character. That should really be a small video you upload between Back Issues :D
wolverines claws are so sharp, he creates a mushroom cloud part had me dying.
Spider-Man reveals to the superhero community his four other identities.
Moon Knight: "Am I a joke to you?!" 😂
I love Enemy of the State.
It's so gritty and mean, perfect Wolverine story. Its a bit bloated (too long) but its really good.
The Gorgon was a great villain, too. He was OP, though, kicking Wolverine and Elektra's asses with little difficulty.
5:38 Isn't that Cyclops's power?
I assume the point of Gorgon, and in particular the specific way they describe his power, is to explain how they managed to kill Wolverine.
Imagine being neighbors with the Watcher. Can't do anything with the blinds open or he's watching you. "Bob, I see you're in intestinal distress, I have some wonderful medicine for that." " thanks Uatu, I'm good.... "
Ohh I've been waiting for this for 3 years!!! Heck yes!
The very first issue of the "Wolverine and Deadpool" comic I bought over here in the UK was the finale of this story, so it will always hold a special place in my heart for confusing the hell out of a young me!
26:07 Stop it.
Sal, have you ever covered the Spider-Man Identity Crisis storyline? If not, could you? Dusk #1 was actually the first comic I ever purchased and I'd love to see the entire story.
We've never done it!
@@comicpop Well, I'm anxiously looking forward to it someday happening hopefully.
" it's murder any way you slice it " sal was that a f#cking wolverine pun
Interesting fact: the nurse’s sin becomes one of Wolverines’ greatest enemies, and joins an organization called the Red Right Hand. I don’t want to spoil but they have a plan that’s outcome is so devastating for Wolverine that it won’t be matched until Old Man Logan.
Awesome new back issues, my body is ready.
Ends with an episode of Tangents about Kitty Pryde 😂
Nice.
I'm going to sound like a complete nerd, but I guess I'm in good company for it. That discussion about Kitty at the end reminded me of a character from My Hero Academia who has the power to become intangible like Kitty and there is a lot of really interesting detail in how it is a really hard power to make work.
Eyes intangible? Can't see. Lungs intangible? Can't breathe. Making only a part of your body intangible so you can phase through walls without falling through the floor is evidently very hard, and if he is inside an object when he becomes tangible it just sort of shunts him out.
Also, he has this problem where it is very hard to not be naked when you phase through your clothes...
I also thought of Mirio when they were talking about Kitty Pryde. I appreciated the detailed explanation they gave for his character.
My Hero Academia gives an excellent example of how Tangible super powers work!
Eh, its the same.
POWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!
At least this comment attracted a legend.
I honestly felt spoiled this week, getting a bat-issues, then a great episode of Elseworlds exchange, and then getting more back issues. Just amazing content you guys are making, I love it.
Do Swanp Thing!!
Damn fine story, and JR JR was on point with that art!
Okay... I really remember this story a lot more darker with Kitty phasing her arm inside Wolverine skull and dephasing, losing her arms but making Wolverine unable to heal his brain...
That's the What If...? of this story.
@@comicpop oh! That's it! Thank you for your attention. ;)
It's odd that Sal didn't point out that Reed's think tank helmet makes him look like the maker from the ultimate universe.
26:00 this is why ben is my favorite
It's more like it self cleans from going in and out, that's how it was in my head
Thank you so much Comic PoP y'all know I love Marvel and X-Men. I'm a Die Hard Xavier Academic. Lol
Do part 2 please!! Was still pretty good!!!
When Northstar returned he should have confronted Pryde and told her...
Northstar: "KITTY PRYDE YOU'RE THE WORST!!!" 😂
Great episode!
Best Wolverine comic ever!
Didn’t you mention this in you Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe episode? Dope story and dope video!
I think the kidnapping of the chauffer’s son is an homage ro Kurosawa’s “high and low”
Saved from a lazy night after Krypton, thank you
YES! One of my FAVES!
One of my most favorite stories 🙅🏿♂️💪🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
1:01:12
Omg, that explanation for kitty is basically Mirio (My Hero) power.
POWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Damm been waiting for this for a long time.
Kitty Pride is like the the guy from my hero academia. They go into it on one episode and basically explain it just like y’all did. It’s cool cuz he talks about having to train and like falling into the ground and it being a dark void
Lemillion
Reed's bacta tank raises a whole host of questions, and none of them are pleasant.
I may be completely wrong here, but I was always under the impressions that she would just spread her molecules thinner, thus allowing her to phase. In regards to her falling, I think there are some issues where they say she can "fly" by becoming lighter than wind. Could anyone tell me if any of this makes sense? Lol
Great video as always guys!
It's a nice idea, but the reason physical objects can't phase through each other is that they are repelled by electromagnetic fields generated by the electron shells around atoms. It doesn't matter how thin you spread your molecules, the field extends from one atom to another so there's no gaps to fit through.
Some solid objects of course are naturally porous at a microscopic level, but not all. Notably, crystalline structures like metal definitely wouldn't have gaps to fit through.
So how could her phasing work? Quantum mechanics tells us that objects can sometimes appear on the other side of a physical barrier, an event called "quantum tunneling" but by nature it's unpredictable and extremely unlikely, especially for a macroscopic barrier. Perhaps she can alter probability somehow to make quantum tunneling events for the atoms in her body almost certain to occur when she encounters a barrier.
3 years late but man that X Mansion insurance bill must be through the roof.
I bought this trade two weeks ago and I was hoping you'd guys would do a segment on this
You should review it
First love the channel great job all of you
I could have sworn that you guys did this book before. My memory is possibly compromised.
Back issues for life!
Awesome.
Idk why I liked this episode as much as I did. This is one the best in a long time. I feel like the story was a good mixture of good/bad/goofy, the story was coherent and coherently explained, and the content was familiar enough for Sal not to JUST be expositing, but a little different enough for a couple good bits (like Rachel Grey).
Yeah. Good shit. Thanks ComicPop.
Do Annihilation?
Thanks!
Anytime!
aw hell yeah, Back Issues
This book is very memorable to me for some reason. lol. And I usually hate Romita Jr's art but it kinda worked for me in this book.
40:38 had me like 😲😮
Alternate Title - Wolverine: Get Shorty
Loved this book when I saw Romina Jr was gonna do it when it came out I knew I had to grab the issues
The what if for this is great
Great episode! How about doing Wolverine & Nick Fury: The Scorpio Connection in a future episode?
how big are the files for a 1080p 60fps video?
You should do an x-23 book
Yeeey Getting Physical with Ethan is back!
A sigh of anger raises from the crowd as wolverine didnt murder every hero he fought. Comic Vine will hear about this!
I really like this story one of my favorite wolverine stories
59:32 so his claws are the subtle knife? he can cut between universes?
I think this story would make a great movie
I mean he can beat Lobo who can go toe to toe with Superman...so yeah, pretty much anybody.
It took weeks of him killing everybody on that shield ship thousands of times before he realized he already killed furry then he was free
Fabulous thumbnail.
Haven’t clicked on a video faster
We need a
Sue: "What are you doing inside that ball?"
Reed: "THINKING!!!!"
T-shirt made stat!!
if wolverine teleports too much he'll arrive with his ass on backwards like in spaceballs. No healing factor could fix that mess.
This is the most badass the invisible woman has ever been
Yeaaaaaaa, doing HAND stuff
Wolverine was a highly trained government agent for most of his life. He should know his way around a computer. Maybe not Reed Richard's computer, that might be a bit much, but he should have some level of tech savvy.
Finally something ive already read
Basic metal would never hurt Johnny his temperature can rise up to close to the surface of the sun
No no no.
The comic should have been called... "Get Shorty"
