Greetings and respect to you for the video! Your logic is quite correct if you make predictions no further than one stage. Longpoint is chosen not only by those fencers who are afraid of letting the enemy get too close, but also by those cunning bad asses who provoke the initial contact of the blades at the maximum distance. Are you familiar with such a disgusting thing as “applique”? This is when you try to separate your sword from someone else’s blade, but it still remains connected. Then, of course, there is a competition to see who has more experience in the end. And who could get more benefit from provoking Batman with the blade. But the fact is that a fencer who understands how leverage works will hand you his sword in a convenient position so that you want to find an easy way to dislodge someone else's sword with a blow to the blade. Once again, salutes for a good video!

I've never heard of applique, at least not specifically called that, there's a few bits of bindwork that sound similar, but definitely not something we train to a high level yet 😁
Definitely another one for me to read up on!! Thanks so much for letting me know 👍
