    Ciao Thomas, I collected last week my new GLB200d with "full spec" especially for the MBUX system . Normally (before Corona) i used to drive 40/45.000 km a year especially on highway, this year of course things are different . But it's one week now that i drive the car, and I tend to use (to my daughter big amusement) the "hey mercedes" system . Such as "hey mercedes it's too hot" and it lowers temperature one degree , "hey mercedes drive me to...." and it works, the gps is set correctly to that address . Even when i had fisical buttons in previous cars, anyhow you (at least for me) still look at your hands when you touch or move the button (of course not for door mirrors but for example AC system or GPS etc) . One good thing on the GLB is that you still have the touchpad to operate the MBUX and I use that also a lot, I have not seen the touchpad on this C class and I have to admit that would be a "minus" if it was not there, plus, very important there is a "fisical button" for the radio volume (i use that a lot) and for the AC fan speed . But as you mentioned you buy a mercedes most of the times for the way it rides , i came back to Benz after two BMW and a Toyota and it really feels like being "back home" .

I appreciate the safety tech, but there is a steep learning curve (for me at least).... I am still trying to learn all of the feature and how to use them safely while driving. such a massive improvement over the current one
    also while i definitely don't prefer capacitive buttons over traditional ones, i don't find them too difficult to use.

    Great job!! This is easily the most superior detailed review of the new C-Class that I've seen.
    All the others have been fanboy reviews. I'm only finally seeing the cons of this car in this video. Overall great redesign, but some things I don't think I could live with. I'll wait for the refreshes from customer complaints.

    It's illegal to use a phone, tablet etc in the UK when driving. I assume many other countries will be the same. This center console is just a tablet and I noted when Thomas was driving he was glancing downwards a lot. (I like the way BMW's have their screen on the dash). This combined with capacitive buttons is very poor design. I have trouble with fine motor control. This is not disabled friendly. Disappointed as I like the car otherwise and was thinking of getting one, currently have an E-class. Great video as always Thomas.

    Great Review as always.
    Having taken on extra work during the pandemic I’ve been driving 2 generations of Mercedes Sprinter commercial Vehicles.
    The newer generation steering wheel and the blue menu screens looked amazing, but The capacitive buttons on the newer generation I found quite frustrating and certainly preferred the click and usability on the previous generation.
    I really do like the new C class. A shame no coupe in the W206 and I look forward to seeing what Mercedes produce in its place.
    I agree the best version is the RWD C300. A nicely balanced comfortable luxury car.

    Totally agree with the “tech overload” over complication comment, I bought a new C class Coupe with all the bells and whistles and 4 years down the road I am still unearthing capabilities which I never knew I had or needed. Whilst some of the tech is great, next time it will be the basic package for me! Great review as always!

  • @mmaea
    @mmaea Před 3 lety +19

    A very fair review of the new C class and I agree 100% on the excessive driver input required to navigate basic operations. The new 3 series has taken the right approach: give the driver the option to use either traditional knobs/buttons or the screens to access the basic and most used functions. The current B9 generation for Audi’s A4 has the same approach as BMW but I fear that the next generation of the A4 will replicate the all screen approach as the A6 or A8. On another note, Mercedes spends lot of money on focus groups to gauge the receptiveness of their target demographics on screens replacing knob/buttons. Perhaps the majority of potential mercedes buyers want the all screens approach?

      I like the choice in my 3 series. 90% while driving, I use the iDrive knob. It is the easiest to operate ans doesnt cost me much concentration. In addition, the shortcut buttons around the knob are really good, blindly switching from map to carplay, to the home screen and so on.
      If youre on a standstill or a passenger you can still use touch easily.
      Plus: less cleaning!

    • @R1S0.
      @R1S0. Před 3 lety

      its funny because mercedes is switching to this tablet capacity touch button interior exactly from the same approach as you are describing... they have it still in a a-b-glb class... thumb pads on a steering wheel, touch screens, voice, and that swiping pad in the middle of central console.

      In the US all they want is more SUV's. I have the C wagon in Canada and it gives you all the benefits of the GLC but with better handling, gas mileage, quickness, more fun to drive and doesn't look like everyone else. The only thing I don't have is the added road clearance, but unless you are going off road or on un-plowed roads right after a snow storm you really don't need it. The most off road that 99.9% of SUV drive on is gravel driveways or a rural gravel road. Not sure why the hate-on for wagons because SUV are really the family car for the past 20years. Wagons are enjoyed by people that are into sports or have dogs. In F1 the medical car duties are shared with the C63 wagon and the Aston Martin SUV, the MB looks way cooler.

    Please tell us when cars do not have a spare wheel. At night time in Australia, we can be 200 to 300 kilometres from a service station. Road side assist often does not extend to these areas. We can also be out of Mobile Phone range. A puncture repair kit does not repair all punctures, especially when side walls are slashed by debris or a rock. What is in the car's puncture repair kit? How do we re-inflate the tyre. Getting safely to one's destination is more important the car's speed potential which we cannot legally use anyway, or stereo system and it's controls.
