NEW Mercedes C-Class 2022 review: a luxury car you can actually afford

  • Hybrid engines all round and a hi-tech interior aim to tempt you to put off buying an EV as a company car for just a little bit longer...
    That's right, the C-Class doesn't just have to go up against the usual suspects, the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series, but with company car tax rates favouring EVs it'll also need to face the likes of the Tesla Model 3. That means all versions of the C-Class come with some form of hybrid power, whether that's a 48V system or a full plug-in style layout. But it's the interior of the C-Class that really sets it apart from the rest, adopting much of the same technology from the S-Class - a car costing double that of the C.

    What a well put together and informative review this was, thanks!
    Im afraid it might be some time before I could consider such a vehicle, I littrally just bought myself a very old 3.2 v6 c class and its real interesting to see where its gone with a couple of decades more development..

    Have owned four C-Classes from new over the past 20 years. I suggest that you get the rear brake pipes coated with an anti-corrosion film as they are an MOT fail at about 5 years of age. The French-sourced Renault diesel engines can be fragile. MB dealer servicing is very expensive, some dealers better than others. Build quality has improved since the W203 rust bucket.

    • @SDav21
      @SDav21 Před 2 lety +3

      The 203 facelift solved the rust issues and was the best C Class ever made. Evidence of cost cutting was apparent in every C Class after. I had a W204 and at 20,000 kms it already developed countless rattles and creaks. The attention to detail and material and build quality was a huge step down from the 203 FL. The 205 had better materials at first touch but many that I've seen have cracking centre armrests and peeling bits on parts that are silver coated. So it was just a thin veneer to fool people and the build quality was awful. I sat in the new C Class and while build quality is better than the 205 the material quality is simply awful. More than half the door panels are hard plastic that would do a Kia Picanto proud. The ride was also noisy. It didn't feel like a Mercedes. And at that price it didn't even have navigation and safety features like blind spot monitoring or lane keeping which it should have as standard. Mercedes is selling based on name only now.

    I drive the estate version since october, and both in terms of ride comfort and modern luxury feeling, it is miles ahead of its competitors.
    I am not a fan boy, it's the first benz I own, and I tested the 3 series G20 and the Audi A4 before I made my choice, and I do not regret it. They both are great cars, definitely. But are for most of them too hard on bumpy roads (s line and m sport suspension are definitely not passenger oriented...), and the inside design and technology are both waaaaay too old and dated!
    The MHEV is very smoothly configured, and the start & stop becomes even more stealth than before. Also more fluid than in the non hybrid E class by the way. That 9 speed auto gearbox does wonders in terms of smoothness, fuel consumption, and responsiveness.
    As for the screen, it's just perfect! People telling you it's too much a distraction, or that it's more troublesome than real buttons, just haven't spent enough time driving it. It is extremely enjoyable to use a bigass screen for you android auto/apple car play.
    And as for the practicality, no useless gear stick in the central console. It is made available to your fingers right behind the driving wheel, and is so much more convenient and natural.
