I'm an old head so I remember the days of MySpace. You could completely customize your profile and it was really cool, I learned basic HTML thanks to MySpace because I wanted a super dope page haha

I'm literally so happy Apple introduced shortcuts because now my apps can be customized without requiring a 3rd party app
but is there a way to remove the 'shortcut opened' notification thingy? it bothers me so much and just because of that i stick with default icons :( tried some stuff from the net on that matter, but it didn't work

Apple is doing a lot of loosening up in good ways. Allowing more customization and stuff. Ios 18 should add even more.
Jail breaking was more than just being able to customize your phone. There were dev tools that let you basically steal any app from the store without playing for it. It was actually pretty wildwest
i had one app that made in app purchases free, it didn't work on every app but i remember it working on a dragon raising sim and it was *such* a power trip.
Before I switched to android I was deep into jailbreaking. It was so painful to use stock ios, you can't do anything on there.
Jailbreaking is amazing!! So many devs creating tweaks and new features for iOS all the time. Easier multitasking, cleaner UI, and just better quality of life changes that make iOS reach its full potential through jailbreaks.
I wonder what state it is now. I just know that I would never ever be able to use Apple devices even if I could afford them, they're so frustratingly locked down.

It all feels like you're using borrowed hardware with all the things you're not allowed to do. Like seriously there's drm on parts so that you can't even fix stuff even if you have the skill.

I was SUPER into creating icons on Cocoppa and Icoron. I must've published hundreds of Icon packs downloaded by tens of thousands of people, and I've saved ALL of them, haha. Also, I've always LOATHED that pastel-space look that was everywhere on the app. Gag. I routinely got my creations banned for being "inappropriate". Sigh...fun times...😜🤣

I used make icons on that app too! I would draw animals likes cats, dogs, and foxes. I also wasnt into the galaxy look xD
At one point in the video my brain said, "wait, those hearts are glowing and are definitely a filter." Then I saw them move in a way that confirmed those are a filter, but then just a moment later I noticed they are not. You always have such wonderful outfits and makeup on this channel. You are legendary.

The hearts are truly incredible, they threw me off quite a bit at first too, but Izzys makeup skills really just are that good that they're able to make this seem a filter
i was there when flappy bird happened. the memory of people selling their phones for preposterous amounts because their phone still had flappy bird on it is still fresh in my memory.
They still actually sell for about $50-$100. No where near what they used to, but more than the same gen iphone/iPad/iPod without it

Me and my friends all had jailbroken iPhones growing up. I remember specifically competing with one of my friends to see what we could do with iOS back in the day. It was fun as hell and I miss that era of when my dad forced me to use an iPhone and remembering jailbreaking it back in the day permanently and untethered despite him telling me not to.
Man I remember trying to make my phone cute like that in highschool and it was so frustrating I gave up and have never tried it again since. I’d rather it be functional than cute.
surprisingly recently (2020) i tried to do that and it really is annoying (and i probably wouldnt be satisfied with the results anyway). widgets are fine but the app stuff is so frustrating
I managed to achieve that kitsch/boho state for a period of time.
I had to delete it all when I realized it was actually bugging out my phone & was probably full of viruses.
Maybe I just over-did it, like adding way too many mods to a game.
All the grueling hours I’ve spent on making my phones look both stylish AND functional years ago made me stop obsessing over aesthetics that much. Even Googles been getting a little stingy with android launcher customization these days 😮💨
I customize my iphone using shortcuts lol, you can just replace what the app looks like on your home screen with whatever image that you like :D (and it is a built in feature so as far as I know it doesn’t really impact the performance of your phone, at least I haven’t experienced that)

Hello Izzzyzzz! I was at my local antique store when I found a bunch of blindbags labelled "Filly Princesses".
They appeared at first to be basic MLP knockoffs, but when I researched them (as you do), I discovered they have a lot of lore (for the company, AND for the toys themselves). I may have fallen into a horsey rabbit-hole. Apparently the toys also contain a high trace of cadmium!
It would be so cool to possibly see these guys get covered, I thought you might find them interesting

I remember Fillies! They were super big where i grew up (Germany) and were actually more popular than MLP! I actually thought mlp was a knock-off of Filly at first lol. I had so many CDs and little figures, not sure what happened to them...
Oh those were super popular in the UK, I remember they used to sell them at the Pound Shop and people would trade them like the puzzle rubbers lmao

I had CocoPa to customize my home screen too! I wish I took screenshots now .... I had totally forgotten about it until this video. I had a lot of kawaii pink cat customization, but sometimes I'd find rainbow or bubbles or something to that degree. Nostalgic....
I got called out at the end there. Although my phone case is a basic clear/black case, my phone screen is always decked out in themed customized apps because I couldn't do that when I was younger as I had my first phone after high school and am in my late 20s now. That said, I would love to be part of this tacky era if I could. Thanks for making me feel nostalgia from an era I didn't belong to. That make-up look slayed btw. And yes, I do still have games on my phone, not just for my nieces and nephews' enjoyment :>

the widgets update to ios was one of the best things to ever happen to my phone. as a tween during the jailbreak era who was also too scared to actually jailbreak and use cocoppa, i never really got the chance to decorate my phone. now shortcuts and quirky widgets bring my phone to life!! i like matching my layouts with cases too! here’s to us making our lives a little more colourful and fun
I never owned smart phones in the early 2010 decade because I was still in elementary school and I didn't get my first phone until 2017 when I was in high school. But I do remember walking into my nearby Verizons and playing their app games like Temple Run or others. I also remember the babysitters of Kid's Time (a daycare center my parents sent me to since I was a toddler until I was a young teen when I waited for my parents in an after school program in middle school) owning smart phones and they allowed us to use them and play app games on them such as Angry Birds, some weird shaving simulator, and DWTD (The Warioware-like mobile game) as examples. But seeing these iPhone menus made me think of the early days of smart phones.
I got my first phone in 2018 on my 15th birthday, but in 8th grade we'd crowd around my friend's iPhone 6 to watch bootleg Hetalia roughly around the time when the 6th season came out. It was bliss.

In the late 90s, early 2000s I was obsessed with desktop themes and winamp skins. Desktop themes changed you pc wallpaper, screen saver, mouse pointer, icons, text fonts, menus, sound effects and often even added interactive features like cats walking around the screen, sleeping on top of screen windows and purring when you used the mouse pointer to pet them. Virgin Airlines had a desktop theme where the ceo of the company randomly parachuted out of a passing plane on screen and if you clicked on him you got to do a digital scratch lottery ticket with a chance of winning a trip. After parachuting and landing at the bottom of the screen he walked about doing random stuff and reacting to what you did on the screen. 😅 I loved the cartoony themes and had a Winnie the Pooh one that was colorful and had buzzing cartoon bees and dripping honey icons. And lovely music and Pooh quotes played every now and then. 😊
The winamp skins were just cool reskins of the media player console. But they looked awesome! I had one based on Alien. 😂
God I feel this, especially the part about how everything is so corporate nowadays. I miss when I could have custom backgrounds and graphics for all my social media platforms. Now we're lucky if we even get a header image. It's why I still have a love for Tumblr, despite all its many flaws, I love having a space that I can customize. Tumblr blogs are like the last safe haven and even those are being phased out because staff loves copying twitter.

This video is so interesting to me because I’ve been customizing my iphone using shortcuts and widgets for a couple of years now, and it’s cool to see that people have always been trying to do that, we’ve just figured out easier/safer ways to do it :D
One of the issues with jailbreaking a phone was that you could brick it. And if you were a kid who couldn't "just buy another one," bricking your device was a real terror.
I remember when I was younger, I think iPhone 3gs/4? I had the boring background, but my friend had a Matrix wallpaper, with the scrolling letters and numbers. I was so jealous of him!
Then a few years later, I eventually got my first android to see what it's like. And learned the sad reality of my dreams. Animated wallpapers drain batteries like no tomorrow!

I've used quite a few iphones, and currently use an iPhone 14 pro max, but I've also used a lot of androids in my past too. My favorite one is the Samsung Galaxy Note. Having a built in stylus is amazing.
I often tell people that I'm not a fanboy of either. If I had "just a phone," I would use a Samsung Note, or whatever their flagship stylus one is now. But since I'm pretty invested in the ecoystem--I use Apple. I use the ipad for digital art, I love the watch, and the phone just slots in there.
Ironically enough, I'm not a Mac computer person. I never was. I've been a hardcore PC enthusiast since the early 90s. And LGR (and his Sim reviews) hit me with that nostalgia feeling, lol. I feel like I'm a good 5-10 years older than Izzy's timeline, but some of it is pretty nostalgic. Like I was there when Sims 1 first came out, but then did adulting stuff after, so lisening to her take on the games that followed was a lot of fun learning.
I graduated from high school in 2004. So the early 2000-2004 years were peak teenager exploring early internet days and it was a lot of fond memories.

Back when I got an iPhone in 2011, I loved it so much. It was my first smartphone, I had a cheap Motorola flip phone before that but having a phone that could stuff a computer could do was so exciting for me. I would’ve been about fifteen, and I instantly got to jail breaking it and stealing apps from the AppStore. I downloaded all sorts of weird malware, I really wish I still had that phone because it was really something else.

My family hates my custom font (I think its just called "Cookie"? Might be wrong though!) and phone theme, but I love it all so much! (It's like a black cat in a potions shop with little slimes on a shelf. It's called "[jamjam]pixel art Witch Shop_Cat", and it's basically what I've always wanted ever since seeing all the cute phone customisations characters seemed to have in anime and cartoons when I was growing up. 😂😅)

My jailbreaking story is we all required iPads for our first year at middle school, and one day on the train, one kid whipped out their jailbroken iPad with a moving background and rotating scrolling effect. We all thought it was awesome, but were too afraid to jailbreak our own iPads. This was about a month before the first IOS with moving backgrounds (but only a few pre-set options), but I really wish customizing the scroll effect became standard. It would overwhelm grandma, but amuse me for 5 minutes.

ever since iOS 14 dropped, I've used the Shortcuts App and Color Widgets to customize my iPhone, it currently has an "Anime Lo Fi" aesthetic but it's gone through other themes in the almost 3 years since the update, I already have other themes in mind for when I wanna update it next

Old mobile games were so good. It was like the cool browser flash games you could play at your computer, but on your phone. It really is a shame that most mobile games now are just cheaply made cash grabs. It was really cool when the mobile platform was being treated as an actual platform for games for a period of time. I miss Infinity Blade
2 worst mobile games I ever saw were Final Fantasy 1 & The Sims for like really old Nokia phones with tiny grayscale square screens that made the 3DS screen look generous.
Angry Birds 2 ain’t too bad, gameplay-wise, but it has flaws relating to its online functions.

God, this reminds me of the phase I had of customising my old Android phone back in high school.
I've always been on Android, and love it, because of the unlimited freedom. I can even run python scripts on it.
I have used my dad's old iPhone, and hated iOS even more after that. It's so closed down. I understand why people loved jailbreaking.
my dad blew a bunch of money on iphones for the family after he got frustrated that my android wouldnt fully connect with smart cars. 🥲 i was semi-used to ios, i got an ipad a year ago so i could make digital art outside of my bedroom. but god damn. using that os for games and doodling is one thing, using that for anything more ambitious is another. all my androids felt like i truly owned those phones. iphone makes me feel like apple's watching me through my curtains.

When Flappy Bird could not be downloaded from the App Store anymore, I remember that some people were trying to sell their iPhones still with the game on eBay for a profit lol
I would really love to watch a video about Teenage Kitchen, the lo-fi band put together by two Tumblr users! Their album is still up on Bandcamp, but I'm not sure what became of the band's blog. The guy on vocals was cub2, a popular user who eventually got cancelled for something I can't recall, and I don't know who the girl in the duo was. The album's cover art is by Anatola Howard (maroonraccoon), whose art, comics, and animations have remained popular online (she did the gay little animals go to brunch comic, lol)!
