    Not only do I like watching the beautiful twisters that put down, but I also loved watching the rolling farmland of Indiana! I lived in Indiana for a couple of years (now in Arizona), and miss it very much. I try to get back there whenever I can.

    Excellent editing. I like that you included a time stamp to the best footage but yet kept in the footage of the formation of the tornado. You even sped up the scenes that were blocked by the cornfields. Great work all the way around.

    When I chased back in the 1990's until 2002, I was always blown away at the shelves, funnels, rotation, and ill-defined tornadoes people had NO clue what they were, what was going on, and how badly things could unfold for them!

    I just find a rotating storm of this size soothing. It satisfies something in me that calms me down and I get sleepy. As a child all I would recognize as a tornado was the typical stovepipe looking twister to be an actual violent, scary storm. I, like some end up doing, would have totally driven into a storm that resembled this one. I wasnt familiar with terms like wedge or barrel. Just the stovepipe. If this type had been out in front of me I were wokdnt have recognized it as a tornado.

    I lived at park place when this happend and its quite the adrenaline rush to be in a building when a tornado hits it and not being ready.
    Thankfully no one died.
    oddly enough i helped at the shelters at the event centre in the aftermath.
    Its a storm thats hardly covered yet its so interesting and i actually joke (more dark humor) about the fact that had the storm hit any earlier or later there would have been deaths. (it serves as a coping mechanism for me)

    I was at a house out in the country in southern Tipton County when this one went by. I never saw the funnel, but it passed about a mile in front of me, and there was just a big black vortex rotating around over the field across the road, with some sheets of rain rotating too. Being the moron I am, I just stood around on the porch with my camera waiting to see the funnel... to no avail. I got lots of pictures and footage, but all you can really see in the footage is just the torrential rain, not even the rotation up in the sky.
    I was half a mile from the most destructive one that tore through the middle of Kokomo the next week too. I was in shelter the whole time, so no pictures or anything of that one. I went just a block north of where I was and there were trees torn apart. Crazy couple of weeks there!

    • @lotusbandicoot
      @lotusbandicoot Před 2 lety

      Also, the shot looking up 31 around 3:59 in the video is probably about 5 minutes before it passed by me. Apparently it had been off the ground for a short while right there, according to some sites with maps and data. It might have lifted decently off the ground before it passed by me but then dropped again later (without touching down) as it got near the Greentown area.
      Your video accurately captures the darkness of that storm though, it looks similar to several of the pictures I got from the porch that day. It was only a little after 7 pm, so it would've been pretty light normally, but not on that particular evening!

    • @lotusbandicoot
      @lotusbandicoot Před 2 lety

      Sorry for the spam, but I'm commenting as I watch the video. I've driven right by where 5:07 was taken probably a few hundred times. That wasn't long after it passed by me.
      At 11:19 in the video was about an hour after it had passed by me and we were watching it live on the news, figuring out exactly where it was.

    Yes August tornados are not real common even in tornado alley brings back to mind august 28,1990 when Plainfield was decimated by a huge f-5 tornado it never got the recognition it deserved because it was rain wrapped most of the time but it was a killer event here in illinois

    Todd, I know I could just look at a map...but this is a Grandma scaring herself because my daughter and her family just moved to Ft Wayne. How close (or far) is this to Ft Wayne? Happily, they have a new home with a storm shelter built in the basement walls of their home.

    • @IndianaChaser
      @IndianaChaser  Před 5 lety

      The location of this particular tornado was about 60 miles southwest of downtown Fort Wayne. However, 9 days after this tornado, a much larger & stronger tornado struck Woodburn, IN which is just east of FTW.

    The area east of Greentown is littered with high powered power lines. Wonder of any got taken down?

    • @IndianaChaser
      @IndianaChaser  Před 6 lety

      Yes, there are a ton in that area. You can see a slight power flash at 11:38. Other than that, I don't think the tornado traveled through any other condensed area of high tension lines.
