  • Having a strong roster composition is often key to winning battles before they even begin. In this guide, mostly for beginning and intermediate players, I explain how I think about planning my roster in each stage of a campaign.

    I somewhat follow most of what you said early game. Some things I differ on.
    I do run double gripped on my higher melee attackers. If I have a bigger backline however, most of my frontline gets a shield especially if they have sub 60 atk starting. Its just kinda pointless not giving them a shield. That said my double gripped guys also have a shield in their backpack for if they get focused they can swap to it and shield wall immediately if they survive to their turn.
    I too run tanks unlike a lot of people on reddit but my ideal setup would only have 2. I think 3 is a little overboard. Both are on the far extreme sides.
    Other than that everything else I'm in complete agreeance. Well done :)

    • @CarveaHole
      @CarveaHole  Před 3 lety +4

      I don't understand why it's "kinda pointless not giving them a shield". It's more damage. Pocket shields makes sense, for sure.
      Yeah 2-3 tanks is a preference. There are many fights where having the third has helped me and not as many where he was a liability (except for stupid easy fights where it was cause he took longer to kill things).

    • @aylictal
      @aylictal Před 3 lety

      @@CarveaHole Its kind of pointless because someone has to get hit on your team period, early game that is. Theres no magic equation anywhere that the enemy just simply misses you when you're level 1/2 and have 5 melee defense. If you run into them without a shield equipped at that level you're gonna get hit 9 times out of 10, and to avoid that from happening, you strap a shield on him so theres at least a chance that they dont get hit versus virtually no chance at all that they dont get hit.

    • @aylictal
      @aylictal Před 3 lety +2

      Also more damage is always great, but at level 1/2 we're talking about tier 1 weapons on bros, and I'm sorry but 25% damage on a tier 1 spear is 5 extra damage, versus taking a 50 damage pitchfork or worse to your own. Double gripped makes much more sense once you start getting those better weapons that can benefit much more from the damage scaling. Again this is my opinion, but feel free to disagree with me on this.

    • @CarveaHole
      @CarveaHole  Před 3 lety +2

      @@aylictal I believe that you can avoid most hits by playing correctly, which may come from being hyper aggressive but not necessary. Then there's the matter that you can survive a hit or two, so the shield only matters if you would've died from those hits. When brigand thugs have 30 mail on, doing an extra 7 damage with a militia spear (25-30 average is 27.5 --> 27.5*1.25= 34.375) on two bros is half the armor gone by not taking the shields. Enemy HP is lower on thugs, their armor is lower, thus the 25% matters just like it does late game.

    • @CarveaHole
      @CarveaHole  Před 2 lety +1

      Stars are randomly given to bros at their spawning. On average, stars give you +5 in a stat. For melee attack, for instance, 0 stars means you roll 1-3 every level; 1 star is 2-3; 2 stars is all 3; 3 stars is 3-4. Thus your average goes from 20 to 25 to 30 to 35 depending on your stars. In short, it's all about projected stat points.

    I honestly thought double grip in the early game is horrible advice. Yeah, it's 25% increase of damage, but your spear does like only 30 damage at most so that's only like a 7.5 damage increase in actuality. Meanwhile, a shield gives you like 15 melee defense, which is huge in the early game where you have only 5 melee defense. That's a whopping 300% increase!!

    • @CarveaHole
      @CarveaHole  Před 2 lety +1

      No, it really does make a difference. If you wanna watch me take double grip no shields to the max, watch PuggoReborn's most recent tournament where I play. Other great players like Deducter agree on this point. The extra mdef is nice but on your damage dealers you want to minimax by double gripping.

    I'm not sure that two or three tanks is enough at all. I use tanks to hold major threats on the field. But, when you can't hold all threats, your damage bro's will take hits and can get killed. I think that 1/3 of the bro's need to be tanks. With that, you can hold way more threats, and concentrate your hits where your company is the squishier.
    In this video, we see Harun, with 37 melee defense, 145/120 armor 90 hp nimble, that's very, very low for a lategame. And he is in frontline. You must be very lucky, or have a broken battle plan to make this work. He just get shotted by 4 arbalesters in one or two turns and he's dead.
    And your tanks aren't that amazing. No one is above 80MDEF. At least they have great stats on resolve.
    With only 3 OK tanks and squishy and exposed damage bros, i really want to know how can you beat all kind of enemies.
    If we could chose enemies in this game, i would chose to fight only nobles, and build a company full of daggers, and it will work.
    How can you beat shrats ? the only bros that can damage their shield are in frontline, and can take mid life after they destroy the shield of one shrat.
    You are playing a lot with adrenaline. Ok, that seems good at early game, fights won't last so long. But for nobles or orcs, you can't have enough damage to deal in two turn to kill them all or make them flee. And after this, your men will be tired. You won't press adrenaline a second time, it will be completely useless. It's usefull to launch a fullscale attack at the end of a turn, and the beggining of the next one.
    There's no doubt that your company deal a lot of damages, but with this strat, you can easily lose a bro in a battle.
    You send one of your damage to an enemy sergeant. 95%, you miss. Adrenaline. Next turn, 95%, you miss again. The sergeant do not miss. One arbalester hits you, with two billmen. And it's a RIP.
