Back in 2013, a RPG Maker game was released called Kanye Quest 3030. AS far as we know, this was not an official game from Kanye West and his team, but it did include his digital likeness. Something important Mat did not mention. You can give absolutely any personal info to the game but the game doesn't even connect to the internet. No one gets that information.

@@aiaikawa4012 you can check with the resource manager. Plus it would be highly unlikely that a cult would keep spending money on servers for a game that the secret wasn't discovered only 2 years later.

The main problem would be how your firewall might treat it.
But yes, you could see if it was using internet through many different ways, task manager and resource manager being some of the most readily available. But... Have people checked that? A quick POP3 packet out would be pretty small and unnoticeable. Some amount of kilobytes.
I mean, regardless, the address it would send to (if it even did send something out) would almost certainly not exist anymore.

Like a good chunk of multiplayer games don't even use servers. Tons of games with just peer-to-peer networking in 'em. Hey Matpat, I think you should do a theory on a new game called Turnip Boy Does Tax Evasion. There is something a tad strange about the game- especially since halfway though it, when the Turnip Boy walks back into a room he's already been, they see a ghost walk to the other side of the door. Theory: Ascensionism is a fake cult created by Phenix to make the player truly think he was joining a cult. He brainstormed it and tried to "start" it back in 2006, and only truly got it off the ground when it comes to its tenets in 2011-2012, around the same time he started developing Kanye Quest.
It also seems very similar to the Illuminati. Especially the symbol and idea of “ascension”. The eye with the pyramid inside (I believe) is supposed to be like the Illuminati symbol, a pyramid with an eye inside. And both of their ideals include ascension. Phenix very well could have been inspired by the Illuminati to conjure up Ascensionism on his own. Kanye West also has theories surrounding him that he is part of the Illuminati. It makes it very believable that this game is inspired by that.
A video done by mamamax about Kanye quest kinda came to this conclusion while investigating the actual accession cult websites and socials i suggest you watch it.
Probably, considering that the information in the end doesn't actually get sent anywhere. I'm willing to believe that it would've a cool ARG if it was discovered before all the websites were defunct, It would've garnered a lot a considerable amount of attention to help his game.

Hey MatPat! After replaying one of my favorite games on the Wii, DKCR, I realized how crazily strong DK is in the ending. He gets knocked above the moon, but punches the entire thing back to earth with a single punch. Ascensionism reminds me of shifting in a way, "More than just a world, a feeling, or a concept. Ascension is a state of existence. It's the space between Reality and Fantasy, the only place that allows all the things that the mind can create to completely coexist with all that reality has to offer, and all that it withholds." It's creepy how shifting became suddenly so popular on TikTok in the past 6 months, and how a bunch of people everywhere are trying to move their concious through time and space to go to another reality. It all doesnt sit well with me.
This kind of thing has existed forever. One example I can think of is called Second Life which is very similar to the 'new' metaverse things being talked about now. I'm sure if you looked for it you could find examples dating back to long before the computer era though the terminology might be different.

i feel like nothing ever came out of this because the general public was eventually made aware about the secrets, despite being told not to tell anyone, as the said "cult" was searching for recruits and since merely everyone that played the game decided to take to this mysterious hidden part of the game, the recruitment had no validity or purpose anymore.
Or the game never had the permissions to access the internet, or the email/ip address the info is sent to is now completely invalid, or it's being blocked by firewalls, or the person that made the game didn't know how to deal with networking, or......

When mat started to explain how cults recruit people it reminded me a lot about youtubers showing us videos and telling us to like and subscribe then we can follow them even more by becoming a channel member😅
Whether you're trying to get someone involved in a cult or just trying to sell them something you're going to exploit human psychology, generally by making people feel good about themselves and feel like they're part of a larger community or at least by connecting to them on some common grounds (current memes). That's also why so many brands have twitter accounts, they're trying to make people feel like they are their friends.

5. What is the purpose of the treasure room?
And many more questions we don't have the answers to.
