DualSense Major Upgrade? 3 NEW COLORS of PS5 Controllers - Sony recently came out with 3 new colors of DualSense PS5 controllers (purple, pink, and light blue) so I bought one of each so I can check them out and see if there is anything different. I'm hoping they upgraded the analog sticks and the springs on the triggers but I won't know until I get them apart.

Any controller that has the model number followed by a smaller capital "A" on the back will have these changes. Even the white and red/black if anyone is curious, great way to tell without opening it up.
Great stuff, hopefully these will be more reliable over time. That BW100 looks great too, I'll have to pick some up
Biggest improvement on the spring is the removal of the obvious bend angle. Where ever you get a pronounced curve to straight section, you have a weak point. The new springs look less pronounced so should be stronger by default before the extra wire gauge.
There are slightly different changes as the new colours have a small letter after the version.
What I also found out is you can not put old controller board into the new shells. The shells are slightly different from the inside so they don't sit flush with old boards.
Middle touch button has only 1 screw instead of two. The screws are silver and not black.
Not alot of differences but as I do custom controllers you realise the differences.
I use QD electronics cleaner to fix stick drift, sometimes I have to clean it 2-3 times but works without taking the controller apart. Has saved me 100’s on controllers.
2:20 actually the whole layout of the PCB has changed not only the location of that chip, and great video i love seeing ya tear it all apart

I took my original PS1 (non-analogue) controller apart the other day to give it a bit of a clean. The difference between that simple controller with its single PCB board and the huge amounts of tech in the DS5 is immense! 😂
@3:37 look at the circuit traces on the boards, they are arranged differently as well. Look near the gold color dot between the sticks.

Thankfully they are upgrading the springs. I got my ps5 at launch and after a couple weeks the L2 spring broke luckily I was able to replace it with a spring from an old broken ps4 controller

The spring on my original dualsense R2 button broke only after few games. Good to see if there is any change.

maaaan the purple one looks pretty sweet! I have an OG white but I feel the battery doesnt last long (i play about 3 hours per day tops and need to charge it like every 2 or 3 days) i'm waiting for the dual charging stations to become available first
What is the current state of pc compatability? can it be used as a normal controller? are there any games on pc that can use the new rumble goodness?

I've had the white, black, and red ones. (2 of each) All has stick drift. I recently got the blue one, and It feels different. I haven't had any issues so far after about 12 hours on it. I hope I don't have any more issues.
I wish they'd release the back button attachment already. They've had a patent for it for about a year now. Sucks they released the dualshock 4 back button attachment right at the end of the PS4s life cycle.
I love that purple controller
Got the purple one last week, used it for about 10 hours (playing HFW), and so far it's great! I have noticed a minor rattle on the right side when the motor kicks in hard, but I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly where it's coming from yet. Also the grip texture on the back feels a tiny bit more pronounced than either of my whites. I thought my primary might have just been worn down a little, but I have a second original white that's never been used, and it's definitely not as pronounced as the purple one. Wish they'd have upgraded the batteries, but the minor improvements they did make are welcome!

for any mods for controllers i always stick to extremerate theyve never steered me wrong and when i had issues they sent me new ones right away
Hopefully the sticks have been improved and it's not just a slightly diffrent colour plastic.

Does the bw100 work on a controller that has problems with the a button double clicking? All of my Xbox one and series controllers eventually have the a button double click randomly with just one tap.

I'm pretty sure the new revision PS5s also have the new springs, I have a new digital PS5 my controller is white and the model number to the controller is CFI-ZCTIW same as your purple controller.

I have a friend who who broke the USB connector, plastic bit in the middle broke. How hard is it to replace the connector on these things? Ordered a couple off AliExpress.
The pink one is so pretty. A ps5 in that color would be nice as well. If only you could get a ps5.
I had an issue with one of these new controller, maybe you might be interested in this. I think I have strong hands, because after a few heavy session of GoW, I noticed the X button stopped working correctly. It's sometimes worked, but it's fully stopped while I pushed the L3. I was sure the problem is with the connection between the motherboard and the ribbon cable. Thanks for your videos, I decided to repair it myself, so I went to get some tools and I fixed it with extending the height of the padding under the ribbon cable. :)
Crc electronic cleaner works great to. Sold at Walmart or auto part shop

Sadly for me you didn't go further into the controller, I wish I could see the touchpad structure. In some of your older videos, it is attached with 2 screws, but when I opened my own controller, it was attached with only one and a piece of plastic on the other side. I was hoping for a comment on the repair side from you. That aside, it was nice to see the springs measurement, keep up the awesome work with the channel!
I just bought a black one to have a spare and it has the same model number as the controller the console came with. Hopefully it is improved somewhat.

Does the BW100 help with any liquid damage on a PCB? I have a Macbook Air, that has water damage. I have used the IPA on it. It appears to have helped a little, but I am still not getting power. So maybe it will clean better?? Than k you for what you do, you have inspired me to do some work on old computer to keep them out of a landfill.
It will help to clean it but many times liquid damage needs more than cleaning. So glad you're getting into repairs yourself!

Why is it that in 2022 we can't have controllers with good and resilient analogs? It's the most important part of a controller and at the same time the first to fail. COME ON!
Funny everyone complaining about that. It is a mechanical part of course it fails first.
It just looses stuff overtime, so u need to replace them at some point. Just learn to solder and change them yourself and easy Money safe.

Ive got (R) trigger wear on my ps5 controller. Would a trigger spring from a ps4 controller work as a replacement for the ps5? Asking so i dont have to buy any parts?
It works but it's not as strong, you can order replacement springs for a few dollars shipped..

One thing Sony's controllers and headsets have been missing since the PS3 era is battery life. The fact that I can only get 6 hours out of a PS5 controller and headset is absolutely ridiculous.

@@PEJED ya but there only 50 dollars . think about this when I had a company just to have a radio commercial and a online add the cost was upfront was 9000 dollars plus 1900 a month what I'm saying you can't expect things not to cost the overhead alone is expensive by the way every letter on the box you see has a cost every letter in the US your looking at .20 cents to 5 dollars it depends on size I'm just pointing this out because alot of people don't know this
The analogue sticks won't be different; this is the same one used in the dualshock, xbox gamepads and steam deck because the company that supplies them hasn't fixed the drift problem.
However, it's going to be a very difficult problem to fix because of how they work, and I'm sure they've been trying.
Also, any of the changes they made would apply to all newly manufactured dualsense controllers. So if you went out and bought a new white dualsense, it would most likely have the same thickness spring and board layouts to these new colours

I have the black controller got it when it first came out I haven't had any issues and my launch controller is still working perfectly

Not that anyone cares but sony says the colors are Starlight Blue, Nova Pink, Galactic Purple, Cosmic Red, Midnight Black, and White... the white one is just white no special name

Most likely simply because its more popular color and they are expecting it to be sold more or the color causes larger manufacturing cost.

@@ryans413 Plastic colors can be made several ways. They use colorants (basically small plastic pieces or powder that is infused with the pigment) and depending what type of colorant it is will effect the cost of manufacturing. For example the others they might have been able to use the cheaper grain size pellets as colorant but with the red one they might had to use colored pellets or powder that cause extra steps in manufacturing.
