NEW DualSense Colors - But Are They Better? Are They Even Different? The two new colors I'm checking out in this video are Midnight Black and Comic Red. I took them apart and compared them to the previous DualSense controller to see if Sony made any upgrades to the internal components for these new colors.

Yep, my spring broke on mine. I got a repair order from Sony, but they wanted me to pack and ship the controller myself to fix it… so I just ordered a pack of springs for $4 and fixed it myself.
There has been a fix now for analog to fix the drift. From what I know, you can put a paper that is big enough to push the bottom of the analog up so the inside would touch each other and prevent it from drifting. You can test that out and see if it works because right now that is how most of the analogs are being fixed now since there is nothing no one can do anything on the inside of it.
I have the red one irl but it’s more of a winey colour than a cosmic red
cant wait for you to fix some steam decks after people start breaking them
And then they turns out to be not actually broken!
Great business model Sony. Don't fix known flaws but change the color and increase the price.
Yep, they know they'll get more sales if they offer pretty new colors. Just wish they'd also fix the major problems.
@@Tronicsfix agreed
Agreed
Sadly the end user is just as much to blame as sony. It's sony's fault for not fixing their faulty designs and the end user for continuing to buy from a company that sells them overpriced items that they KNOW will fail. It's a lose-lose situation.
Being japanese enough i would do the same
4:00 the color of the connectors on the far left of the board and the far right are changed from white to black
Spring failure, and stick drift for life.
3:56 the SIE chip has a different number, also below the BDM-010, ONE NUMBER is different: on the left one is 845911 and on the right is 845921
but the rest isn't different at all.
Makes no sense that they cost more for the exact same control aside from the color. Spray paint sounds like a better option for now poor man route 🤣
Notification new comment: can't ignore it must reply .....lol turning off notifications lol
thatsbalways been the case even on shoes, cars and etc

@@GrandHuevotes What a patronising, condensing little oaf you are.
You're truly amazing, you actually motivated me to clean my SNES controller, and now it works as if I just bought it brand new, and I can't thank you enough for that!
Sony made these colors because they are afraid Dbrand is gonna steal the show again
So close to the million!! Congrats on 900,000! I truly enjoy all the content!!
Sony employe: Boss dualsence have stick drift and triger spring breaks after some time
Sony boss: Do people buy new ones?
Sony employe: Yes
Sony boss: Leave it $$$
An interesting video would be comparing an Xbox Series controller to a Xbox Design Labs one. I just got mine this week and the build quality and weight seems different.
Nice video! Could you mix them up for a future video? like change parts from the existing colors and see how they look? maybe black buttons in the red controller etc. I think it would be really interesting :)
I was waiting for this video a lot!!! Good video
Yep, no surprises there. I have some drift in my launch PS5 controller already and the triangle button in my brand new black version gets stuck down sometimes when pressed a bit harder. Yay.
I brought the controller colours for the xbox, and they look pretty nice! That's about it though, no difference in parts lol
TLDR: New controlers are the same
Smh
burh, just let people watch the video
Congrats on 900k I love your content I hope you get 1mil soon you deserve it
TronicsFix is taking unboxing to another level.
Oh boy..its like Christmas in july..I dig the black one for sure ..btw great video Steve!👌
If you want a potentially faster way to see if the boards are the same model and revision, you could try scanning the QR codes...if you can read the info, there's about a 90% chance the PCB, PCBA, Revision info, or some combination of those three are buried in there somewhere.
I have aftermarket red panels on my ps5, so I had to get the red and black controller. Now it matches, and it seems to work great so far.
Long long ago companies faced its maketing based on the quality, and the reliability. They were keypoint to sell even appliances and they had strong QA and constant process and supplies improvement .... Not telling Sony doesnt have QA, but probably this is no longer on the tops of the minds. And these are not cheapo items ... so they should.
Have had my Dual Sense controller for what feels like five minutes and the spring broke on it. That's the quickest any part has ever broken on a controller for me. And I've been gaming forever. Luckily it was an easy fix.
I’m definitely getting that midnight black controller
Thank you for this nice video. I like to learn from you.
You are welcome
I'm not surprised they didn't fix the issues. Sony probably sells a lot of replacement controllers due to the flaws, so why take away that source of revenue?
Poor bussiness practices then .... they should partner with HP ....
Very pathetic if they are already failing. They've been out for what like 7-8 months tops.
I bought the Black one as my second controller, definitely my favorite of the 2. No stick drift or broken spring problems yet though. Another thing Sony needs to update is the battery...a 1500mAh battery in a controller that does all that it does is ridiculous....they should have shot for a 3000mAh battery to at least double the life on it. All people did last gen was complain about the DS4's battery life and they go and do it again with the DualSense, and I'm inclined to say the battery life is even worse...I'm having to switch to the other controller every day. I miss the battery life of the DS3.
Congrats for 900k
Thanks for the video
Great video 😀👍
They look even been when you fire them up and get the touch screen glow. Got the red one and that's what completes the look.
Increasing the tension of the spring would only make it harder to use and put more strain on the plastic parts causing them to wear out or break. Improving the spring without increasing tension is the goal and Sony "may" have done that by, for example using different supplier, having the springs made of better material, having their supplier do more quality control checks. Time will tell if these springs last longer than the previous ones.
I got the black one and to me it feels tighter than the white one that came with the console, the white one feels kinda hollow by comparison, which actually makes the haptics feel a little better
Great video, Steve. Please consider doing the same for the Xbox Series new controllers as well.
Edit: also hoping for the Steam Deck teardown.
I got my ps5 in January and I have to replace both R2 springs in my white and black controllers. At least they are cheap and very easy to replace.
They didn't upgrade any components and for some reason they're more expensive than the white one 🤷♂️
1:05 villains in horror movies be like
Nice job bro
nice test 👍🏻
The Black one looks indeed very good.
Another Awesome video
Please more videos on repair controllers and consoles
I think you should swap the buttons over the black buttons in the red controller and the red button in the black controller I think it would look pretty cool
Thanks for this. Was planning to buy one expecting they fixed the analog sticks. Guess that’s out the door. Sony, seriously, get your head in the game.
Can we see a new tear down on the 3 new colors purple blue and pink please! I really enjoy your videos thank you!
Good video !
The red one is a little bit "rosy" for my taste. I prefer the black one !!!
Teach me French
Seriously, protect this guy.
Both black and red look good but I'm def leaning more towards red (as long as it's red-red not pink-red).
The all black is nice!!!!
I bought the black one because it matched the dbrand matte black plates I swapped onto my ps5.
I would have been surprised if they engineered a change that quickly
Only had budget for 1 new dualsense and went with the Red to go along with the White Dualsense I already have.
Do you have experience with fixing the problem in the ps5 when the disc gets warm in only a couple of mins of being inside and the discs sometimes getting stuck and not going in fully bc it happened to me and the loud noise when i put in the disc
Luckily my controllers are fine since day one but i hope they do upgrade the internals despite me having a good experience
Are the thumb sticks on the Xbox series S&X the same as the ones for the Xbox one's. Are they interchangeable. Thank you Steve,I love watching your channel and have watched all your videos. Keep up the good work. Jay
3:42 the side "connectors" are black on the new one. This changes everything!
I have a weird question what do you think the charging voltage will be for the steam Deck?
Good thing I watch this cause I was planning to buy the new ones but finding out it's the same one...I'm good on buying one. Both of them are more pricey than the original one.
I've had to turn off the adaptive triggers on the PS5 because both of my white dualsense 5s springs broke. One was the L2 and the other controller was R2
nice video !
I hope i can get those pair in no time
If they change something on the mainboard, it would have a new number. This also applies to the sticks.
So mad at Sony over my launch dualsense getting drift after under 100 hours use. Cleaned the module which fixed for 3 weeks and now it’s trying to drift again. Absolute shame to get drift this early and with so little use
My day 1 system controller is still perfect. Tho I never tend to get stick drift on any system.
If I want to start repairing a Nintendo Switch what set of tools to buy from ifix? Ty
This guy looks like he should rock a ponytail 🤣 but the content is class got me hooked
I honestly wouldn't expect any component changes until Fall of next year.
Hey I have a ps5 controller where the r2 spring became loose and I also have warranty from GameStop will they take it?
Excited for a Switch OLED teardown
Hope Sony watches this and gets their shiznit together.
what brand of analog sticks would you recommend ?
i love the red one
Steve I have a question on one of your tools because I would. Like to buy that tool online but I don't know what I is could you reply so I may ask what it is
Congratulations Sony for the new paint job!
Gday Mate! You and Odd Tinkering should maybe do a joint fix one day? Have no idea what but quite interesting to watch. Or Electroboom, hah! Fix one of his laptops.
I bought a new dualsense controller as I had the issue you mentioned with my R2 button. Is it something that can be fixed by opening it up?
Edit: I see you showed how to do it.
I'm holding out for some good third-party alternatives.
Those bottom tier trash analog stick modules are the worst ones Alps makes, they come in ratings of 100K motions and 1M motions, both of which are a joke, but it seems Soyny, MS and especially Nintendo are using the ones only guaranteed for 100K even though 1 million would be used up in no time as well.
It'd cost them nothing to use something better like the ones Kailh makes, but they won't change it, Nintendo obviously don't want to as you can tell by them refusing to do so no matter how much they're sued.
@@lordjaashin yeah I want to know too… I been successful using a hakko vacuum tool … just didn’t know you had to dial in the pots
@@lordjaashin Yes there are tutorials on CZcams, but it's not exactly the easiest soldering job out there.
And for the record the ones I see for sale from Kailh, that are currently available, are only guaranteed for 1M uses (they have 2M ones as well apparently), but I've heard far less about issues with those.
It's because Klaus Schwab wants you to own no working analog sticks, and you will be happy.
Cyrus I have a SCUF ds4 with the orange analogs do you know where or how I can find the sensor wheels for them ? Mine are all wrecked from constant cleaning and I the blue analog sensors don’t fit :(
I have both. They are great. White got dirty easily.
I guess it’s kinda good I don’t have a ps5 right now? Maybe by the time I do they’ll have better controllers and what not
Sony could improve the dualsense L1 and R1 buttons too, they kind of snatch when pressed.
Iv always wondered why Sony and Microsoft don't use Hall effect sensors like the Dreamcast controller did
Honestly gave in and got the jet black, very beautiful, so it's worth it imo.
I have zero problems with my dualsence since day one
Maybe consider switching the d-pad and buttons, especially if you can't decide on your favourite :-)
I will say the d pad feels better on the new ones so that maybe an improvement
Can you do an updated video on the new colours
Tronicsfix, LOVE your channel. I have a challenge for you. I don't think its possible, but if anyone can.... It would be you. Here goes.... Can you make a nintendo switch light to work on a tv.
Also later in the year. A new switch screen on an old switch.
Yeessss i had a problem with the triggers it ticks me off. I changed the spring, and still happens
Black looks so good in real life.
This is a weird one for me, normally the second release of a controller comes with at least some fixes that they either missed out on, or just didn't realise was there within the first release. But it just seems that this is just a cash grab. I will say, at least in the UK, the price for the black one is the same price as the normal white one, the red one coming in at £5 more.
I still haven't got a fix for my second controller I bought just not working right. Takes like 4 attempts to connect to the console to use (it connects, but nothing works) and the headphone jack not working either, no sound at all if I use a pair of headphones in it or even the mic itself.
I had one of my controller stick drifting only after approx 100 hours of gameplay. Never dropped it or anything..i contacted sony and they did replaced it but i had to pay the shipping to send it, witch is better than having to buy a new one
I MUST KNOW is it bad if that little silver box that u took off the motherboard came off seems like a dumb question Bc you took it off yourself but when I first got my controller is was pretty much stuck on there
They don't have universal touch pads. I've tested them. White touch pads can't be used on black handles
I'd like the red one more if the buttons were red on black or the grey on black of the black one.
Most electronic gadgets are designed to break at some point, so companies can make money on hardware products.
Hey steve, IDK if you can do this, but by black dualsense controller buttons are really mushy. Is there a way to fix it?
You could fit digital front buttons?
@@CraigsChannel what?
