Thanks 4 a great review...I ended up buying this over the HP Specter 13 and have absolutely no regrets...I splurged and got it fully loaded with the QHD, 512gb SSD with 16 megs of ram...I have had absolutely no issues with the Killer wifi and the screen is just so awesome to look at...even with the QHD, I am getting over 12 hours with doing work, surfing and listening to music...It's lightning quick and gotta love the boot up time....A+ all the way for me and I have no regrets buying the older version..this 8th gen i7 is amazing in terms of battery life and it's so much faster when I merge large amounts of data at work...
Always love your reviews. Thanks Dan!
They should make more laptops that allow you to upgrade the internals easily. I'd be *MUCH* more prone to buying one then.
That's not free though. Tradeoffs including just being a bigger, bulkier laptop. You can swap out Wifi, SSD, and RAM in Dell's with ease. CPUs are not really a thing and let's be honest, would be very, very niche for your average consumer.
Windows Central of course. I'd just like to see more laptops like this one that allow you to upgrade more easily so that we don't have to buy new laptops so frequently. Cheers for the reply, nice work on the video.
Windows Central You can upgrade the RAM in the 8th gen XPS 13 2017? I heard only the hard drive can be upgraded
Windows Centralive how thick would the laptop need to me so you can upgrade cpu and gpu
This thing rips! Love it. I can do music production almost anywhere with it and the quad core i7 easily handles that kind of workload
Hi FutureV, I'm thinking about getting this for music production! How well does it handle plugins like Sylenth1, Serum and Kontakt? :)
Thanks for sharing this :)
Just for your reference: Intel chips from Skylake 6th gen, have security issue intel-SA-00086. Make sure to check manufacture has a patch for it.
how about the coil whine of previous models in this new version? Nice review by the way, I enjoyed it a lot
Great review. Mine was supposed to arrive yesterday. Still frickin waiting
Did u get it
@@fariyalkhan03 haha yes I did. Sold it recently too!
I've gone for the i5 Surface Pro 2017, at the price I paid I could justify upgrading next year and probably still not lose much on the cost of the device, I am looking forward to seeing how these Quad Core 8th Gen CPUS run in the next Surface Pro model (If there is one in 2018)
Hi, can this laptop handles video editing smoothly with 8GB ram?
Can you do review of hp spectre x360 13" with 8th gen processor and a comparison of spectre & xps...
Are loud fan noises normal with the XPS 13 9360? Looking for a fix for this.
Can you put the link to that wallpaper?
What is that background that all the reviewers seem to be having on their devices ? The purple/blue picture ?
It's from here: dribbble.com/shots/3713646-Small-Memory/attachments/832536
The guy makes some really beautiful art.
Pls review the Samsung notebook 9 pro 13 inch and 15 inch
Doesnt the new 8th gen chips run on intel uhd 620?
will DELL release the 9365 with 8th gen i7s?
Any news/rumors on the XPS 15 2018?
We expect an announcement for CES, so sometime in January! Should ship by March if history tells us anything.
lowest model 1440p highest model 5k probably 1060
source apparent reddit leak
What do you mean Full HD screen is better for reading that QHD? Why is it better?
is it still a fingerprint magnet?
I just bought this a few days ago and I’m having problems, big problems with extremely slow web browsing. I have updated the drivers and it didn’t help. I’m not sure what else to do. Can you please help me figure this out? Mine is the i7.
1) Check Wireless settings if you are getting the 867Mbs throughput
if not, check Wireless Drivers
is it good for video editing(2.7k)?
A good review
I am buying MacBook Pro base model for its screen speakers Trackpad and mac os. As it is said that mac are overpriced can you refer me a good windows laptop with same or better specs than MacBook Pro under 1000$
I have the xps 13 8th gen i7 but Full HD and I really love it! Battery life is a beast! Almost 3 days of battery life.
Mau D. Lu wow
I'll buy it with this configuration too on monday, i hope i won't be disapointed
H. Cool. Get the specs I give it to you. Check if the processor is 8th gen (8550U) if you want more specs, it is up to you.
I know its lame .. but any clues as to when updated xps15 are coming ?
Announce at CES, ship likely March.
Can you upgrade the RAM on the XPS 13 2017?
WhoaNellyJake no it is soldered to the mobo
Hp zbook x2? When you guys going get your hands on it
Yassin Zao yeah I'm waiting on that vs getting the surface book 2
Sounds bad lol
bought this laptop one month ago, and im loving it, but i dislike the black carbon fiber, it's fingerprint horrors
gpu?
Considering that HP's Spectre X360 has two TB3 ports, both of which have 4 lanes, it seems to be better value for money than the XPS, AMIRITE?
A strong case can be made for that, yup. We rated Spectre x360 as one of the best value Ultrabooks on the market.
Yea but you need one for charging anyways
Is it possible to edit on this machine? 1080p and maybe 4k?
Philip Carneiro 1080p and infrequent 4k editing would be just fine. But if you plan on doing primarily 4k video editing, you might want to consider a more powerful machine.
+random youtuber thanks for the answer! and what type of laptop you would buy? do you know a good one?
Philip Carneiro for video editing the XPS 13 is a great choice. It depends on your budget. There are many similar priced Ultrabooks that could handle video editing. Look into the HP Spectre x360, Lenovo 720/920 for other options. And if you like the Apple ecosystem, I'd recommend the Pro. Each have their own pros and cons, but I'd choose the one that has what is most important for your use.
most important for me is video editing. Im just starting with editing and at the moment i need just 1080p but i want to buy a pc that also can handle 4k really well because when i upgrade on my camera i dont want to have to upgrade on my laptop again. And importing while im editing is for me that i can edit fluidly. Export times are not that important for me
Good review--but enough with the tears over 2 lane usb-c. Practical implications for this product--zero. Looking forward to HP zbook X2
What's the hard disk storage??
I believe it has just 256GB of SSD. That's a dealbreaker for me..
Compare this to 8th gen spectre x360.
Yup, we'll be doing that!
Thank you for sharing
I am looking for dell Inspiron 15 5570 i5 8250u 8gb ram 1tb HDD 2gb AMD Radeon 530 ddr5 gpu
Is it good?
Or should I consider another laptop
Depends on what you are using it for.
I will most probably use it for programming... And sometime play media and games.. but major focus will be programming
There is a version of same model which consists 4gn graphics and 2tb HDD and a version with i7
So I'm confused which should I go for and AMD graphics are not good.. but dell provides only AMD graphics at this price so no option
I will use for programming mostly. I would recommend one having ssd. If you need more storage you could get an external hard drive. I am not a gamer but for gaming, I think you can go for the one you just said.
Been using the Dell XPS 13 9350 for Software development (Android App Development and more)
Handles like a champ and its a skylake edition (2015); can only imagine how well this laptop can handle IDE and or stuff such as Grade Building
My major gripe with the XOS is the keyboard, probably the most important feature for me. The keys give no feedback and are mushy, awful for my heavy load. Give me HP or Thinkpad or even the new MacBook, all much better. If Dell gets that right then kudos, a near perfect laptop, but at the moment slightly compromised for me.
wallpaper link?
Davi Porciuncula would love to know too!
Found it: i.pinimg.com/originals/e5/1d/97/e51d976087c3ce5b698c3e56de0bc6d8.jpg
Dell Xps 13/15 or Mac pro 2017 (used, affordable) guys??? 😣😣
dell 100%
i sold my mbp 2017 13' because it's more than a joke than a laptop
Just bought an 8th Gen i7 XPS13 and it doesnt have a fingerprint reader... Are they supposed to come standard?
$25 optional. If ordering thru Dell, you add to configuration.
Same here. Forgot to select finger print
ooh does it have a gpu if so I'd savery nonentity compared to xps 15
Nope
dammit
Killer network adapter for XPS is shit. My XPS crashes very often because of it's drivers. Also there is absolutely no difference in signal strength if you are using Killer or any other network adapter.
Kind of disagree. We tested Killer and noticed stronger signal at our office, where other laptops would drop. The prioritization feature is also nice for those who need it. But hey, for $35 you can easily swap it out for an Intel one. Takes about 15 mins max.
Maybe that's just my case. Or maybe they have improved it from last year's version (because I really tested it with other cheap laptops and the signal drops at the same point).
Anyway appreciate your reply! Keep up the good work.
And by the way, very important question: did you hear any coil whine?
Thanks! Re: coil whine, if you put your ear up to the keyboard, yes, you can hear some. However, compared to new Surface Book 2 13, it's super quiet. The issue here is some people are *super* sensitive to it, while others (including ourselves) are less so, so hard to rate. But it seems minimal.
Windows Central just Google it, Killer Wifi in the Dell had major issues. They updated drivers in May but still not great. Of course some users won’t have issues but it was a well known issue for too many users so I agree buy an Intel wifi that generally are more reliable and will have better driver updates.
I just bought two of these for myself and my wife. First day I had problems with the killer WiFi knocking out my Archer C7. Upgraded the firmware on the killer WiFi and on the router and no problems since. We both love the laptops and are extremely happy with them for the price. Costco had the 8th gen is, 16gb RAM, 512gb SSD, and QHD screen for $1300
Is the ssd upgradeable?
Yes, it is.
@@BuckRogers2491 is it? How can we do that? Can we follow this? www.laptopmag.com/articles/upgrade-dell-xps-13-ssd
please, the next time you meet a microsoft manager, tell him to send us the lumia 950 components drivers (camera, sensor, etc), at least you've decided to kill windows mobile, let us survive with costum ROM.
Great laptop, but still too heavy for me. My samsung notebook 9 13.3 is under 1.8 pounds and has all those ports except TB3 (which is useless for me since I have a desktop if I want to game). More important to me is hdmi and this hasn't one... Still a pretty good laptop.
Samsung laptops are definitely underrated (although we've given them solid reviews!). Shame they don't sell in more regions.
Your laptop is so light mostly because of its battery being only 30Whr, that's half the capacity of that of the XPS 13.
HoveringAboveMyself Yep, technically the LG Gram 13.3 is the winner on beight 1kg & 60wh.
It's also the materials. Samsung uses some very thin metal/plastic hybrids. The 15" is actually an amazig laptop with battery, etc.
Is this touch screen
How about the coil whinning issues
Killer Wi-Fi issue when suddenly throughput is dropped, no one talks about it. Last year I bought Dell high end going just by the issues. Whoever is interested just don't buy it without making sure about these issues. Trust me you will thank me later.
Aniket dali I guess it's not a problem?
I ordered mine without knowing about the coil whine issues and then when I started hearing about them in some review videos, I got nervous. The laptop arrived yesterday, so I've only played around with it for a day, but so far I can report that it's very fast, the wifi has worked just fine (hasn't disconnected or slowed down at all) and you can only hear any coil whine if you press your ear down to the keyboard. In any normal position, you can't hear anything at all even in a very quiet room or while watching videos/downloading large files. Maybe it starts becoming bad after a few weeks, idk, but for now, nothing has been an issue so far. It seems to be a great laptop
All Dell have been doing with the XPS line is updating the processor for the past few years 👎
Jarlath Healy yeah they need a redesign soon. Dell will be updating it next year
Bad, i think they should do a surface laptop clone with the 3:2 screen ratio.
What's wrong with that? Why fix what ain't broke?
It's both a valid point, but also not. HP is constantly tweaking its Spectre line, which makes Dell look bad here. OTOH, as noted above, this design is still pretty awesome. It's very forward-looking and still feels fresh in 2017. But yeah, hard to get excited over it, but hey, it works well, is compact, gets great battery life, has an awesome display, etc. Hard to get mad.
Colin Kiama thing is they just upgrading device spec but not fixing the hardware issues. Had 3xps devices all come with alot of hardware issues.
Nice warm feel wtf? The heat from the procezsor can already burn your nuts.
That screen thooo #sexy
Not my kind of laptop but I can picture my mother loving it.
Great review man

How brainwashed must you be to want facial recognition?
Except the screen. This laptop is so boring looking. In this price we can get so much handsome looking books.😕
Aditya Sharma what would you suggest?
i7-8550U... U... 15W CPU, quad-core, even if u give it octa-core it still can't beat 45W i7 CPU, just like laptop 45W i7 can never beat desktop 95W CPU... yeah, quad-core, for laptop noobs.... intel's trick actually works, on most people ironically... ;/
multi core performance increased by 60% so it's quite good. the best thing is it now have much better performance-per-watt ratio
It's actually fairly comparable.
