Well, this explains the lack of waist-capes in the SW line. Lego has been saving up that fabric for the past couple years for this bad boy.
Absolutely worth it, honestly.
Nice joke. It’s not like I’ve heard it 93792 times
@@copeman1183 You just told a joke that I heard for the first time in the 1990s as a means of claiming my joke is tired. Think on that for a moment.
@@jessebensen3569 pov: midwit finds out that not everyone likes his joke and he doesn’t understand how a joke works
@@copeman1183 What's your issue? Mentally healthy people generally don't troll around CZcams comment sections insulting people. I sincerely hope things get better for you.
I don’t understand technic hate. The amount of structural integrity and mechanisms it can provide is unlimited. The UCS AT-AT technic is amazing and we wouldn’t be able ti get it without technic
The people who hate on technic are the same ones that don't know how to build with it correctly.
Totally agree. I have the razor crest and think if they used technic as it's main structure it would have been far far better. People who hate technics shouldn't be building such models, especially those as mechanically demanding as a "dragonfly helicopter".
My only complaint on technic is how raw my thumbs feel after building bigger sets multiple days in a row. I just got the Lamborghini Sion which is such a cool build the functioning gearbox is something I never expected and was so cool to see in the build. Technic makes literally any build so much better especially this set I already have mine built and it was so cool seeing all the functions come together
Genuinely didn’t know it was a thing till recently… I love having a hybrid set of technic and regular bricks
Imo more fun
People hate it because it’s not mindless brick stacking. Technic requires just barely a hint of cognitive functioning during the build process and some of these Lego content creators just can’t fathom that
"Place your hand in the box"
"whats inside the box?"
"Lego"
More like “Step into the box…”
THE PAIN!
LMAO

I like how they included a lot of minifigures that storywise weren't related to the Ornithopter. They're not gonna make a full wave of sets or anything, this way they just give people the ingredients to make a lot of their own Dune-mocs
With the inevitable success of the Dune trilogy I'd be shocked if there aren't full waves of sets further down the line.
@@CheckOutMyPokemonsthe problem with Dune is that there aren’t really many potential Lego sets, apart from the ornithopters. You could make some minifigure-focused playsets but the movies are a bit long and complicated for kids
@@stoutyyyy
Yeah there's not too many things you could do, but things like a spacing guild ship or Geidi Prime arena or something targeted at adults.
Could make the dinner-scene from the first book (don't remember if that is in the movie lol) @@stoutyyyy
@@stoutyyyysand worm, gladiator arena, throne room, fremen cave, and other ships or the big mining machines
There are very few non-LEGO Star Wars sets I'd consider buying, this is one of them.
Fax
X2 it's amazing
Surely lego rivendale is one
Same here
This and rivendell, but I am already out of space in our current residence
0:51 You had me at "Technic".
In all seriousness, I was already set on purchasing this set, being a fan of Denis Villeneuve's film and upon seeing its first images several months ago.
However, it having a complete Technic inside is definitely another big plus for me. I don't understand the people who don't like the system, LOL.
Technic adds so much detail regularly bricks can’t do it’s bizarre this is even an issue for some lol
Those long spine wings are one of the most unique Lego parts ever! The fact that they move and fold too is INCREDIBLE...we now need a Lego Star Wars Kashyyyk Gnasp Fluttercraft with the flapping wings we see in episode 3. The landing gear are a cool unique touch too, and technic should ALWAYS be included!
This set absolutely delivered! I didn't know there was so much discourse over technic in regular sets in the community. How can you argue with these results🤤
I have the same question as you, but I think this discourse stems from CCBS and Bionicle which I would hate if that’s true…
Nobody is arguing results. It's a technic set, that they aren't selling as one.
Lego crazies are cray cray. Why complain that there is Technic? It’s so much better than many of the disappointing Star Wars sets that are sold.
I got this set yesterday and I must say: The building experience was highly challenging BUT also a LOT of fun. Seeing how all the fuctions can cramp in the tiny inside of the ornithopter and actually seeing them work in the end was just Beautyfull!
Hello friend, you seem very satisfied with your purchase.
So i take it it is a Lego set you would recommend?
Just built this last night while watching Dune, just an incredible set. Probably my favorite build of the past 5 years
I enjoy the sets mixed with technic much more as well.
And let's not forget to mention that the movie was EPIC. Many films get praise for this, that, and the other, and I'm so sick of people saying mediocre movies are great. This film stands apart from the mediocrity of modern Hollywood and is a visual, auditory, thought-invoking feast. I feel sorry for everyone who won't see this masterpiece in theaters; the seats were SHAKING whenever a sandworm showed up on the screen.
I've never was attracted to any Lego set, always seen them at distance and think they were cool, but never felt the need to own one, however this... the wing retraction system alone looks so damn good, this will be my very first Lego set
Saw this thing today for the first time. It is not my first Lego, I am 59, bur this is really a sensational thing. I also noticed there are sets to build lights in it.
It is still an impudence that in this price segment Lego still uses blue and red connectors and pins!!! Especially for a display model! So it is not perfect at all like most of the other display models also…
Never satisfied?
@@voidstudios7460 there is no need for blue and red in a display model with this price tag. That’s my point…
I absolutely agree, I've never understood it.@thomasclemens4404
The bricks must flow!
Loved the "sorry Thiago" nod! I literally can't wait to have this set on hand! Great review as always!!
Best review I have seen for this set. Much more informative that the other set reviews I have seen. Keep up the awesome work David
I’d love to see more integration of Technic with System. Their fairground sets could be much more ambition taking on more technically intricate carnival rides as a prime example.
As a massive Dune fan I had to get this set. This is the first set I've built in maybe 15 years and I am so excited. I'm about a quarter of the way through and it has been so much fun so far
The Baron just made me smile, that’s what LEGO is good at surprising you with a little touch that seems only they can think of, so much fun 👍
Was going to say how they made a set of the coolest thing in that movie... but there's literally nothing else they could've made.
The movie is all concrete huts, empty hallways, and open desert
Sandworm?
Those spice machines?
A massive Guild Heighliner with interior parts would be sick
There are actually 3 kinds of Ornithopters in the movie, and they look unique to eachother.
Then there is the big Atreides Army transport ships.
Then a smaller Atreides 4 engine drop ship [one that gets shot down between transports.
Then Harkonnen Drop Ship with inflatable balloons].
Then Spice mining crawlers.
Then a massive Spice Carryall. [2 versions]
And then there are more large/small ships, but they are too far in background to see any real detail
A sandworm wouldve been miles better
im so glad you asked if hes done any lego star wars set, hopefully that idea becomes a reality now! as a lego star wars fanboy we NEED this guy on the team that build is incredible
I love the interview with the designer and how he's so willing to talk about what they thought about doing and what they failed at doing.
Just built mine, and IMO, there are ZERO flaws with this set! And I agree with you: this set may very well be the set of the year.
Enjoyed the complicated build, and was so satisfying when completed. Incredible functions and engineering, very detailed yet robust. It's the same length as the UCS X-Wing, but twice the wingspan. If this set ever goes on sale, I'm adding at least another one. Well done, Lego!
So, you don't see colour?
Great review David, love the insights with the designers. Mike is a wizard! I also love that this is a set very much pushing adults to play, not just display.
Gotta admit, I played with mine when I finished building it. And how could I not? There's so many cool functions. And the build is so satisfying!
The way the blades fold and move is insane! Getting back into Technic just built the Perseverance rover. The Saturn V is one of my favorite sets of all time and the Titanic set I just adore. Mike is an artist.
Thanks David. For the record mine was shipped today! I hate that Technic/System BS too -- it's ALL Lego. And this achieves the amazing result. I can't wait to get mine. Oh and thanks for letting me know how to hold it.
Man this is an impressive set. I can’t imagine the engineering that went into creating this masterpiece.
the wings could move a bit faster IMO but this set is awesome, it makes me want a full adult line of dune scenes
Nice looking forward to this set and especially with the next half of the film launching this year makes me have high hopes of another future set. Thanks for all the hard work.
This might be the most impressive, technical stock sets I've ever seen in my entire life. I'm incredibly impressed. Completely blown away.
Those play features are pretty darn amazing.
I finally watched part 1 last week, and am very excited for part 2. I'll have to save up for this it looks amazing!
Just finished it. Great experience making it and I can tell you for sure that the mechanism is great and I love every part of it
it's magic to fit so many feature in such small (compair to UCS series) set
Mike Psiaki is my favorite current Lego designer. He's such a chill guy and always has such clever and interesting little engineering tidbits hidden inside his much larger intricate builds
I cant wait to add this to my collection, just displaying it is gunna be interesting
I purchased this as soon as I saw it, being a massive fan of Dune for many years (books before films). Can't wait to start building it, looks fantastic.
Great review David! I might have to pick one up before the movie comes out.
This has been on my wishlist for a while now. The only thing I want now is for them to build another set to include some of the characters in Dune part 2.
Wow! Appreciate the review! Thanks!
Fantastic interview. I love this designer. So candid
Such a perfect set and such a perfect review, thank you
Great explaining about this set! ✌🏼😃
Couldn't help but hear Jang complaining about all the colored technic bits
Looks good, but I cannot fathom why they made the connectors black which makes them look really out of place. I understand they probably did it to facilitate locating where each piece goes during the build process but it just looks ugly. Whole droves of people who will buy this set will probably just order grey connectors and replace them all.
Cool set and minifigures! I hope LEGO continues to make these kinds of sets, just being one decked out set from an awesome movie. I only hope that one day we will get a UCS Black Pearl one day. The 25th anniversary of Pirates of the Caribbean will be in 2028!
Super impressed LEGO can make these kind of functions in such a sleek design. I really liked the new rendition even more than I thought I would, never expected LEGO to make it into sets but this is pretty cool... I only collect medieval stuff though.
This is a masterpiece and in my opinion the best lego set ever.
Love this set and can't wait to put it together. I'm always a fan of Technic in sets. It's just a great tool that adds a lot to sets imo
dude as soon as i saw this on the lego website, i fell in love with it. I knew it was gonna be good
Amazing sets. Thank you
This set is just magic.
I just watched Dune again, and I don't know what went over me when I watched it for the first time because I felt like the plot didn't get anywhere, but now that I watched it again it made so much sense to me and was such a good movie with many cool action sequences.
Even though you said you don't need to watch Dune to enjoy this set, this becomes ten times better when you do. You gave this set high praise and it's totally justifiable but I think personally I would've at least mentioned the elephant in the room which is those red technic pins and maybe that the design is just a bit bulkier than the source material. However, I'm sure there is a reason for the red pins and you can easily replace them with black ones with a small pick a brick order so I'm not too worried about it when I decide to purchase this set.
Ooh boy just wait for Dune part 2 in a few weeks, the second half of the book is incredible. You won't be disappointed ;)
0:15 They really should start checking IDs at the LEGO store.
Just finished my build tonight. Fantastic set
Looks incredible
I miss when Lego ships used to be big, hopefully this is a step in the right direction for Lego Star Wars sets in the future
What do you think of the new Galaxy Explorer?
All the nerds complaining about technic and the red pieces you can see can shove it. Probably the best build I have experienced and one of my favorite possessions.
I am mostly a Star Wars guy when it comes to LEGO. Only non-Star Wars set I have is the Pyramid of Giza which is a nice set. But as a Dune guy, I was pretty hyped when I saw this set rumored and went to the LEGO store on release day to buy it. I think its hands down the best set i have. The build was challenging and it looks amazing once done.
Own it and the build itself wasn´t that easy, which made it very fun because it was a bit challenging.
The end result is amazing.
Love this set and the minifigs
I havent bought a lego set for more than 15 years (the last ones were from star wars episode 1, a lot of them) and this is the first time since then I am REALLY eager to get a lego set. Damnn this looks so nice. Great job, really!
I've not touched legos in 2 decades. Since childhood basically. I'm currently considering buying this thing. Breathtaking toy.
And my Lego addiction is officially back. Nice review mate 👌👋
Just finished this set. Such a great set.
All the different colors are great! I love the orange, red, white, blue… I also like the parts where you can see them in the movies! Just like in any other Lego set :)
Obviously we are now well used to some franchise tie ins with Lego, and there is lots of cool stuff, but I would NEVER have expected Lego to do this craft. Absolutely fantastic set.
Ok. I was already sold on getting this set but DANG what stellar words you have to say about it.
Just bought mine at the drop at midnight, let's go!!
Awesome set for an awesome movie
1:02 sorry Tiago 😂😂😂
Nice review. It is a nice counterpoint to Tig’s review (which was also well done). Although I don’t think anyone’s bubble is burst because you told them they were holding it wrong. I am sure they are happy to find out how to hold it correctly just like you were when the creator corrected you.
Just build it and ALL the vids and pics do not do it justice. I am in love ❤
His interview was awesome
Just had notification that my Ornithopter has shipped. I can't wait!
Lets be honest Michael psiaki is the best lego designer out there he knows true balance in a lego set LEGEND!!! 😀
Dammit. I really wanted the set, now I really NEED the set
Reminds me of the old Micronauts Hornet toy. They should make a Lego Dune movie too. Great video!
Very cool!
This has to be displayed with the wings splayed out, it looks miles better. the combination of Technic and System work in this sets favour as it gives off that mechanical vibe while still being sleek like the vehicle in the film and with the studs still shown it's lego like while creating texture i like it and will most likely get this set just on a bit of a discount.
HYPED for DUNE Pt2
That’s why there’s no waist capes for Lego Star Wars. They all got used up in this set
Not a big Lego guy, but I impulse purchased this up today as a fan of the movie.
Haven't built it yet though. Saving it for a day where I can sit down, maybe watch the movie while I build it. I didn't know anything about the set before purchasing, but hearing that it's heavily Technic based has me very excited. As an og Bionicle fan, I love me some Technic builds.
”this isn’t an ad for Lego, I just keep getting stuff for free from them as long as I keep giving them good reviews “
I wasn't going to buy this but having seen the mechanical design it'll be delivered in a few days. Looks awsome !
I am a lifelong LEGO fan and I'll tell you this: even though I do not own the set (perhaps just yet...), this is already one of BEST sets of all time with much of these brilliant design decisions made to ensure equal balance between function and form, even more so than some of better Star Wars sets. Ugh perhaps I do need to make a purchase ASAP before they're all gone.
I dont collect sets, I usually just buy pieces, and I haven't even seen Dune, but I really want this set.
Minute 6:55 i bought the set dude, you convinced my old soul of a lego and dune fan with this video, i just bought it witch your amazon link. thx °! btw paid 130 euro
You've convinced me....I must have it.
Man I just really wish those red pegs weren't so glaringly out of place. Had they been dark gray or black, I think the set would have really benefited. Still getting it though lol
Just got my own set yesterday and can't wait to build it as a huge fan of the Dune novels since I was a little kid and also as a fan of the designs from the new movies. As a casual Lego fan who doesn't buy a lot of them but has built his share of the more technical stuff like the Apollo 11, I just don't get this Technic hate that seems to be out there. As far as I'm concerned, if it looks great and plays great I don't care if they had to use Technic in moderation to get to the endpoint. I actually love how creative the designers are with repurposing pieces from various lines to achieve a certain effect.
Will 100% be buying one once it goes on sale
Ohhhh this is something I'll get as soon as possible
Nice 😺 Can’t wait to get mine! “Fear is the Mind Killer!” Cheers 🍻
Honestly I can’t take this man reviews seriously I like David’s work as a moc builder but as a reviewer I can’t help to think bias is always there even if he tries to resist.
Sold. Great review.
its kinda insane how badly i want this set and ive only been collecting star wars sets to fit my collection, but somehow i feel like this would still fit right in and still be interesting enough to stick out as something to talk about without getting lost, Bravo! Lego Designer(s)!
Good review David , Tiago say its bad but i like very much your review
Very Cool
wow this is a must buy
I want more Dune sets made .Period.
