Talking to New Yorkers about Student Loan forgiveness

- I speak to New Yorkers about Biden's plan to relieve the smallest amount of debt.
Fun fact: Most of the people needing help are the older generation that borrowed much less and now owes much more than the younger generation. However, this is now getting blamed on young millennials and gen-z.

The rich kid pretending he knows what a Loan is is very funny.
Hahahahhahaa
He had to take a loan of from his Daddy, and he'll have to pay it back, boohoo. Daddy can't cancel that loan, the money has to go to my stock portfolio somehow.
@@KcarlMarXs He's paying off his loan with an unpaid internship... 😑
Not really ...
@@waltermasterson When was your last role?
Why don't we just pay mortgages he says. Paid on my home 25 years, more than triple the loan amount and then lost it in the crash of 08. Guess I'm just lazy and entitled too.
Look at all those old guys who couldn't make it on their own. Needed daddy and grand papa to pay for their colleges
What's next a healthier society. All our kids have to suffer. Any parent wanted a worse life for their children, because they had it bad, are the worst people in the world
Can I just say I love how your content has evolved - this parody angle is so much more entertaining and allows for many moments of insight into an average person's perspective. Keep up the great work!
Thank you
Student loan forgiveness is the bandaid on the hobbled broken leg of America.
Free
College
For
All
Nothing free is really "free" however, I can see "free" college (aka gov subsidized schooling through increased taxation or reallocation of state funding) happening in a few states where these ideas are already gaining some traction with voters. But I doubt there will ever be gov sub higher education in every single state. And to some extent the ship has sailed given the declining value of traditional education with the emergence more affordable and effective alternatives.
And free medical care. A living wage. Paid parental leave. Control of the means of production. I may be getting carried away on the last one, but we can dream.
FIX the COST of College .. get to a solution.. instead of giving away money.
I’ll take the bandaid. It’s better than nothing, of course we go the opposite way…paying interest is the furthest other end of the spectrum
@@swayback7375 I'll take the Money TOO!!.. oh wait, I paid off my student loan, CRAP!! .. stupid stupid so stupid!!
The solution for the poor is free university education and free trade school (plumbers, electricians, contractors, etc.) The current system is stacked so the rich get good jobs with no debt and the poor will always be under the gun trying to pay off their huge loans. This is "class divide" at its worst. Only free education will solve this problem and will be good for the economy. Too much suffering for the poor and the rich don't care.
Or just be INTELLIGENT and vote to decrease the tax rates AND cut any unnecessary tax. That way, you have more of the money you earned.
This is
BASIC
ECONOMICS
@@chris135xbasic indeed!
Here’s another basic in economics… taxes are what build, grow and maintain a society and it’s needs, tax rates have consistently fallen lower and lower…. The poor folks at the bottom are paying more than they ever have in modern US, while tax rates have dropped dramatically for those at the top… my family literally pays more taxes than musk, trump or bezos despite the fact we drive a single car, 22 year old Camry, and can barely afford groceries for the kids…
Tax the rich, they’ll be ok with a few less airplanes, yachts, and vacations homes… oh yea… they’d be ok without playing Mr. Spaceman and they’d be ok without buying and then gutting social media…
To be fair tho, we would probably all be better off if we cut insane military spending and diverted that into education, affordable housing HEALTHCARE etc…
@@swayback7375 Yeah, I already understand the working class pays more in taxes. But it's not a fact that we need taxes for a society to exist. That's r-tarded. If that were true, why do potholes still exist in the roads that the taxes paid for? Why is society terrible despite the taxes we are forced to pay? You NPCs keep saying stupid things like "tax the rich" but you can't even tell me who these WEALTHY (cause "rich" is a word that children use) people are. Don't tax ANYONE more than what they're already taxed! Just cut the tax rates down to 10% and YOU will be able to keep more of your own money.
@@chris135xorrrrr… use the funding/government money more wisely 😂
Fantastic how you kept pushing that your parents paid of your loans but kept calling the kids entitled.
It comes down to one thing, conservatives don’t want The Country to improve for the next generation… unless they are rich. America is supposed to grow and improve the life of its citizens, not get stuck or go backwards. We have nothing to fear, but MAGA itself.

I've come to the conclusion that these people largely use Communism and Socialism as synonyms for Authoritarianism, but only when it doesn't do what they want. They are extremely Authoritarian otherwise.
I'm reminded of the time I asked someone to look up Socialism, and he flat out refused because he "already knows what it means".
They just use it to describe things they don’t like. I am fascinated by how many of them have the potential to become communists.
Socialism is when the government controls things. Or in other words, DOES THINGS. Did HITLER "not do anything" when he formed his Nazi party? What about Stalin and the gulags? Or the SeeSeePee and their camps?
Is the government "not doing anything" in those cases?
hahahaha. It's like how you can get most Republicans to agree with literal full-blown socialism (hilarious phrase btw) if you just never use the actual word. It turns out that Republicans support 100% of Democrat policies, but only if you don't tell them they're from democrats and you don't use any of the "scary" buzzwords.
If that's not the sign of robust, internally consistent belief system, idk what is!!

I worked 2 & 3 jobs while going to college and my son worked while going to college. We didn't get any grants or scholarships. My son graduated with no debt.
Neither one of us have a problem with the goverment helping with student loans. I am glad that they did cap who was able to get it.
Note- Median Salary in the U.S. in 2000 was $42,148
US Inflation Calculator makes it $72,517 for 2022
Median Salary in the U.S. is 2022 - $54,132
That is a $ 18,385 loss 😥
The problem (which I explain to everyone) is we are taxed too much. If we actually voted to decrease the tax rates while getting rid of the pointless taxes, we all would have more of the money that we earned.

I hate understanding the logic "we can't help these people because no one helped me" or "their just lazy". At the same time my property taxes go towards a grade school and I dont have kids. I end up having to supporting public education that I cant benifit from "rabble, rabble, rabble". I didn't think much about it at first until I started listening to these people bitching about this topic. I guess I'm more like Jesus than I had previously thought.
People keep saying we should change the way colleges are charging tuition as if those supporting student debt cancellation don't recognize that colleges/universities charge thousands of dollars a semester. Where was the push to make college affordable or free during BBB? I don't understand why there's this hesitation as if we can't advocate and do multiple things at the same time. 🙄

I pay 300 for my university each semester. If I didn't have the money for it I could get the government to help me with that.
The US is just insane
And this is like
One of the most well known universities in my country, in our capital city
And most of the tuition fee is actually pretty much just the train ticket I get with it
My government not only has public colleges but also they give tuitions for poor people in private collegws
Don't you hate it when you get confused with the wrong loans being canceled? Such a silly mistake
Let's goooo thanks Walter :)

I discovered this satirist by chance and I am a big fan of him from Austria🇦🇹. Maybe the only one... who knows. hahahahahaha
...also here it is much easier for richer people to get education than for poorer people. Thats not what it should looks like.
You have to imagine what it's like here in Austria. Of course, education is a bit problematic here too and it's also harder for poorer people to get access, but at least I can study for a ridiculous 18 € ÖH fee as an Austrian citizen. The problem here is things like rent and living costs....but at least it's not as catastrophic as in the US. America needs a complete rethink. The more people who can get access to education, the better for everyone too, because many from lower income backgrounds are given a potential that wouldn't be there otherwise without the money available.
Lets hope that one day the American people will storm these right wing libertarian and society damaging rubbish media toilet houses. I hope for it with all my soul.

Free houses? That's not fair, I just paid off my mortgage this year.
Hahahah
OK, actually my wife paid it off...
I'm opposed to forgiving the debt because it's not solving the problem, it's hand waving it away which is only going to cause the real problem to get worse.
The cost of higher education is rising much faster than inflation making student loan debt such a big issue, but getting rid of the debt won't address the huge price tag, it just funnels even more taxpayer funds into private institutions.
Step 1 should be to impose limits on education costs that automatically rise with inflation, then consider loan forgiveness/subsidies(Bringing existing loans down to what they would be with reasonable pricing).
Even a year after this happened we've not seen lower education costs, and in fact that average rise last year was triple inflation.
As Stonekettle put it he and his wife paid their student debt, and said he’s willing to pay to have student loans forgiven because he wants to live in an educated society.
i love the lazy millennial stuff at the end. My fav is when people who are millennials dont know they aremillennial. Then say silly stuff about millennials.
Right,They're 34 and think they are Gen X
What's next? Our tax dollars go towards stuff we actually need like housing, healthcare, education etc. ? Wow, don't wanna become Denmark, I mean, Venezuela now.
Paying the government in taxes so that the government can subsidize the housing stuff only increases the price of rent or sale for said housing things.
Please come back when you listen to John Stossel.
Hearing so many negative responses worries me.
I'd like people to answer this question: which country would do better in the long run, the country that lets everyone fend for themselves in education, or the country that invests in the education of all its citizens?
FYI: I live in Australia and wish all levels of education were free (of course that means taxes I know) , but at least we are close here in that We have a HECS scheme where you only need to pay part of your education back when you earn over a good amount. I own a small business and don't have a degree, but don't mind paying more tax if the people around me become more educated and less like republicans.
Why does everyone sound like they’re from my hometown? 😂
I'm not a woman nor a veteran but if the government helped out in funding for them in any case such as child care, veteran health packages, and I don't own a business but if starter loans or grants were given, well that would be great. Just because I don't fit under those categories doesn't mean the help should happen. That would be selfish. But to be someone who is well off and have a high position in government then get loan forgiven for something they participated in or haven't then vote for no one else to get some help is disgraceful and just morally unjustifiably wrong.Too many people in this country are about themselves, yes, take care of yourself from harm, but don't be against help for others just because you don't qualify. If you are so well off that you don't need the help then you already have been blessed. Greed is evil.
Republicans walking face-first into the point, and not flinching.
Republicans genuinely understand loans and taxes. The democrats do not.
Most of those people were tourists, so as a New Yorker, I'm almost offended by the title.

What about all the University students? Why are you only talking about Colleges? Weird.
Huh?
You are born in sin. Jesus died for your sins, He poured out His blood for the forgiveness of your sins, His blood was shed to pay for your sins. Forgiveness of sins comes through the blood of Christ. His shed blood is the price of redemption for sinners who trust in Him.
But what about all those who have paid off their sins on their own? Is this fair to them, that others should have their sins forgiven for them?
And why should all these others be forgiven, these hypocrites who would protest others being forgiven; by what right do they claim that they are deserving of forgiveness themselves?
“And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” Mark 11:25
Jesus Christ also told the people he lived around to give your money to the people in poverty to help them. Not to give your money to the government.
And don't forget that Jesus H Christ was murdered by his government.
If you are a Trump sympathizer, you burned your Bible.
Jesus said to help the poor. A debt is not a sin. These people paid their loan 3 times and the bank still milking them. How is that not immoral? And practicly it would benifit the encomony as a whole so it would benifit YOU.
People earning $125K per year.. and Couples making $250k a year .. DON'T Need student Debt Relief !! .. they just need to pay their student loans instead of buying more stuff they can't afford on credit. Drop the earnings qualifications to
Walter here is mocking the conservatives and possibly libertarians but the irony comes from Walters ignorance. He doesn't understand that if the federal government imposes this student loan forgiveness stuff, the taxpayers are responsible for the debt. Meaning a new kind of tax is forced. It's not "forgiven". Other people are just forced to pay for someone else's BS.
Oh no what will we do! How will we ever recover from helping people that are crushed under the weight of debt and have already paid back their loans multiple times.
You’re just using code for “I don’t care about anyone else”.
@@waltermasterson Honestly, if YOU don't help anyone who genuinely needs the help.....Then YOU don't care about anyone but yourself.
@@chris135x this is the most asinine comment ever that truly shows conservatives inherent ignorance.
It doesnt even really need to be a tax, you could simply allocate half of a percentage point of the military's annual budget towards it.
Considering the US military budget is larger than the next 10 top spenders combined it would be a negligible almost unnoticeable sacrifice
@@IXSICNESS I'm not a conservative. But how or why is my comment asinine? Yes, it's going to be a tax. Our taxes are funding the military and you want to just tax taxes from one section and put it somewhere else. That's not going to solve poverty. You cannot just throw money at a problem and expect it to magically vanish.
@@chris135x because that tax would be outweighed by the economic benefits of wiping the student debt.
Your comment implies that the new tax is the sole consequence of wiping student debt and that is why it is asinine.
