    I'm not mad about people getting "free" education. I'm not even mad about how this is "unfair". What does upset me, is this is literally kicking the can down the road and we will be in the exact same scenario or worse in 5-10 years. What message does this send to lenders and schools? Do you think higher education will be less, or more expensive?

      Well let's see- they said if you bought an electric vehicle you would get $7,500 tax rebate. Auto companies just announced that the cost of the batteries was higher than they thought and raised the price of the cars $8,500. So I'm sure the colleges will follow suit.

      $10k is not going to make that much difference. Later interest rates are going to be raised, more student loans will be handed out, and everything will be back to normal. There is no such thing as a free education, someone is going to have to bear the burden.

      We could just have college be free at the point of service. This loan system serves the same role as insurance, middle men. They are predatory methods aimed squarely at middle and low income students/families.

      Your payments will begin again in January and be reduced by a % and up to 10k. It reduces monthly payments by a small % that on average will save 1k a year. It’s not a 10k wipeout

If it’s “the right thing to do” shouldn’t he reach out to the people he screwed over in bankruptcy and pay them now? He certainly has the means to do it unlike most Americans

    I paid off my student loans…and was fortunate to be able to buy a house when they were much more accessible. But times have changed…I support student loan forgiveness because it’s good for the economy and the country. Young people will be able to start businesses, buy a first home…etc..

I also took out a mortgage and signed on the dotted line knowing I had the RESPONSIBILITY to pay it in full just like a person signs for a student loan. So for my troubles now I am going to pay for someone else's part of their student loan?

      What about the accountability of previous generation adults pushing children to take out massive loans and promising them they will make 100k+ when they graduated. Only to experience most of their adult lives in a recession and increase the loans by 100% from interest. Since it was nearly impossible to get a living wage when they graduated.
      What about the trillions they forgave to the big businesses? So you're ok with tax payers helping massive corporations but not ok with them helping regular people who are working as hard as they can?

    I sent my daughter to a university for 1st year my family lived as broke people on a top ramen diet to be able to pay cash and not get loans. This is disgusting.     Well it’s not that simple. Payments restart January 2023 and the payments are only going to save on average 1k per year. Basically you are just get a discounted monthly payment that over 10 years will be 10k. The whole thing is ridiculous

    These people are nuts. I paid my own student debt off myself.
    However, giving everyone a leg up that still has this debt is okay.
    As humans we should be helping each other, not watching others suffer as they weren’t well educated in Highschool about debt at or how to manage it and make good choices.
    People are dumb because the government doesn’t fund education properly.
    People learn very little about life in Highschool. It’s unfortunate.
