@@rferg1533 most of this was back during the time when the government was strongly encouraging people to go to college and get student loans. So this is predatory lending on the part of the government as well. Which is the reason for the student that forgiveness, because the vast majority of it has nothing to do with for-profit colleges. And the vast majority of these people went to college, got their degree, have been paid their debt while working, yet the interest rates are so insane they still owe more than they borrowed years later. That's what this debt forgiveness was supposed to help with. The people got fucked by a Texas conservative judge

I'm a conservative and I'm with the idea that IN WAYS, student loan forgiveness would be a major strike to our economy; However, with all of the money being spent without the consent of the American people- towards things that will never benefit them directly, this is one of the few more immediate amends for people that have this debt hanging over their heads. Sure, this will have a effect on the economy, an economy that insists upon higher interest rates, cost of goods and cost of living. To put this simply, the way I see it, we've got to take our individual victories when we can get them. With the trillions of OUR money being sent to Ukraine and elsewhere, other countries are benefitting in very similar ways that we could be, if only we apply it. Choosing against the relief won't stop the ridiculous spending that we have no control over. It's like choosing to not have a cookie when we're serving cake to everyone else. You might as well have the fking cookie.

In order to stop the administration from doing something, somebody has to file a lawsuit. In order to file a lawsuit, that person has to have "standing" - a measurable injury arising specifically from the administration's action. The Supreme Court has ruled on numerous occasions that "taxpayer standing" is insufficient to meet this requirement. (See Massachusetts v. Mellon.) I can't imagine that anybody would be able to show a particularized injury apart from taxpayer standing.
