Deep Stretch Yin For The Back || 1 Hour Fascia Release

- This all-levels yin yoga sequence stretches the back-body and spine while relieving physical tension. We move through a series of passive positions to stretch the fascia of the lower, middle and upper back, holding each posture for 2 to 5 minutes. This is designed to gently help relieve stiffness and pain while stimulating healing energy in the fascia that weaves through the muscles and vertebrae. The sequence includes a number of forward bends to release the hamstrings and sacrum, which will enable energy to flow freely through the longitudinal meridian lines of the spine and the back of the body. The forward bends are balanced with backbends and twisting, and the class finishes with a seated meditation.

Hi, I'm Devi. Twenty years ago I was an addict with depression, anxiety and severe body pain. I was drawn to yoga for healing and recovery, but I kept finding myself in classes that increased my stress and insecurity with dogmatic alignment rules meant for people with very different bodies than mine.
I almost quit until I discovered the intuitive practice of Yin Yoga. With Yin, I learned to follow my instincts to connect with a deep well of inner resources for healing and recovery. Now almost 50, I’m devoted to sharing this approach to help others.
In 2003, soon after I began teaching yoga, I founded Tucson Yoga Studio and directed a staff of 10 teachers with a full schedule of Hatha, Vinyasa and Yin Yoga classes. We served over 20,000 students a year and we were Tucson's favorite yoga studio for many years.
I sold Tucson Yoga in 2012 and relocated to the San Francisco Bay area where I entered into extensive studies with Paul Grilley. I joined MC Yogi and Amanda Giacomini at Point Reyes Yoga as studio manager and director of the studio’s Yin Yoga Teacher Training program. I’ve now trained and certified over 200 yin yoga teachers since 2015.
Paul Grilley’s influence runs deep in my teachings. I was among the first Yin Yoga teachers that he certified at the 500 hour level in 2013, and I carry forth his life-changing approach to yoga alignment. I’m also greatly inspired by my meditation instructor Lorin Roche who is the author and translator of the Radiance Sutras.
After 20 years of teaching in-person and managing yoga studios, I'm now delighted to be doing all my teaching online, where I've been able to share yin and yang yoga with a global community of students and friends.
When not doing yoga you'll find me dancing, hiking and swimming naked near my home in Southern California.

This released my right hip from doing something wrong in yoga and or pilates. I was gentle with snale looks like roll over. And half frog and twisted roots works better on the left side. And my cat came to climb the mountain😂. Thx❤😊❤.
I’m always so pleased when I see you’ve released a long yin (with music - I love the immersive experience with my AirPods in). This was great to do when I got in from a heavy lifting day at the gym - fatigued from deadlifts etc. I really feel that yin is the other half of the fitness puzzle for me - working on the fascia and my flexibility. Lovely class. Been doing yin with Anameriek. She's much more leaning into the discomfort. But loved this letting go and letting the body open naturally. Felt very peaceful afterwards and my lower back which always feels a degree of discomfort is totally relaxed and open. Wow🎉😅

Devi I love your classes but these one is fantastic for me I have a lot of pains lower back shoulders but since I do qigong and yin I am free of pain and anxiety.

Hi Devi, this class was exactly what my body needed today ! I had to modify some poses (janusirsasana is soooo painful on the R side bc of smg weird in my hip - my chiropractor will manipulate it-, so I had to use a block and the bolster to make it work without pain, and it was a good idea !). I also enjoyed the very relaxing music and your calm voice, the perfect combo for a deep relaxation, thank you🙏

I have fascia adhesions in my lower back (on my left side.) that I am trying to sort out. Do you have or would it be possible to wish for videos or a playlist with sorting out adhesions yourself with yin and or other types of yoga?

I'm not familiar with how to treat fascia adhesions. Is it similar to tight fascia? If so, a general yin yoga practice might be helpful. I have over 200 yin yoga classes on my channel, if that helps!

I saved two of your videos in my Watch Later list so I would remember to see if they would help with the pain I'm feeling, when the pain has lessened enough. Why were they removed?
Sorry that happened. I don’t know what would have caused it.
When squatting to get my feet to touch the ground and not be on tip toes my calves scream the entire time. How can I fix this?
There is no need to get your heels to the ground. If you allow them to hover, you still get the benefits of squatting: a nice stretch in the hips, lower back, knees, ankles and feet. Enjoy!
