Logan's Run has been my fave film for years. See a lot of comments confused about why the computer and the city self destructed. To me, the ending has always made sense in the context of the film and the progression of the history of the world.
We know that a disaster, heavily implied to be nuclear, forced humanity to seek shelter in isolated communities. From Logan and Jessica's route of escape through the abandoned power plant and fish farm we know that in the earlier days of the City things were likely far less automated and that the City Computer may be a relatively newer aspect of society. My theory has always been that the City itself is the Sanctuary from the historical disaster, but faulty verbal narrative through generations has kept only the idea of it existing and not the specifics. As the dystopian nature of the society evolved over the hundreds of years into the current computer controlled City of the film, humans naturally started seeking that Sanctuary again.
After interrogating Logan's mental surrogates (the funky hologram time), the computer realizes that with the destroyed and abandoned outer world and no external place called Sanctuary, that the City is the true Sanctuary (historical) all along. And then it completes its own directive to destroy it.
    Something like that.

Guys Ill try to defend them on this. In machine learning it is very important to provide certain data to the learning process. If you are learning a neuron system for example when to stop on the red light and when to go on green light you shouldnt provide learning process with for example birthday party video - it has to be about red/green light streets etc. So i think that the computer could easily handle and calculate data from the point that there is nothing besides the dome but when it learned that there is place to leave outside it just started to malfunction.

Logan didn't seem curious to me, he seemed skeptical and the only reason why he ran was because he realized that after he finds Sanctuary; he's not getting his four years back (he's 26 and had his life clock start beeping in order to have him more believable as a runner).

This recap is not right: the people frozen are not food. The robot "Box" was forgotten in the caves and developed a kind of "philosophy", that he is saving the runners by "preserving" them forever in their young and beautiful Form. There is no "sanctuary" but Box and his deep freeze. The runners did not know that, because no person that left for the sanctuary has ever returned.
So Logan and Jessica flee to the outside and there find the old man and learn that people indeed can get much older than 30 years, a fact they did not know until then. They also did not know that the world outside the city was inhabitable by humans, they were told that all was lost outside the dome.
This is why they went back to free the people of the city.

Not only it still need to depend on human to act as guard to capture runner but also seem to have zero surveillance in it own city so it has no clue where the other runners are hiding and only send one person to follow the spy instead of send everyone.
If this thing is a modern type AI, it would just install a tracking device or even kill switch in that clock so no one can run away and maybe a proper food production within the city so it doesn't have to send one robot just to hunt food for the whole city.

This is actually quite similar to THE MATRIX from a literary standpoint.
    1. Both stories are POST APOCALYPTIC and both stories involve a lot of COMPUTERS
    2. Both stories have a young man main character whose life is a big lie but they are enjoying it and both are living in a FALSE REALITY. One of them is living in a big dome and knows nothing about the world outside of it and the other is living in a computer simulation and is also blissfully unaware of the "real world"
    3. Both stories have a situation where almost all people are complacent and just living their lives but in both stories there is a small group of REBELS who know the truth and are rebelling against the establishment. The "sandmen" in Logan's Run are similar to "agent smith" from Matrix.
    4. Another interesting thing I want to mention: The Matrix is almost as old a movie now as Logan's Run was when Matrix was filmed. Logan's Run was filmed in 1976 and the first Matrix movie was filmed in 1999 which is 23 years later. It is almost 2022 which would be 23 years after Matrix was filmed.

"Logan's Run" was an interesting movie, but I kept hearing that the book was different. Some years ago, I found the book and discovered that the terminal age was 21, NOT 30. A fragment of this shows up in Logan's confrontation with "The Cubs," where it was very clear that the gang leader would be driven out of the delinquent station by age 21. The other difference was: "Sanctuary" exists! ("Terminal Age" people take a rocket from Earth to a settlement on Mars.) I suspect that a better movie could be made that follows the book's Terminal Age.

The model in this movie of the city is the most detail I have seen. It includes the moving cars.
