Just always keep in mind that when it comes to Nen and Nen users, strength is not absolute. How SKILLED of a Nen user you are and abilities you have are what determines fights, it's not about sheer strength.

These guys calling Leorio trash don’t know how much they nerfed him in the 2011 series. In the original series it was Leorio that arm wrestle and broke some guys arm. Plus he opened the gate to Killua’s place by himself. Something neither Kurapika or Gon could do. Togashi thinks of Leorio one of the physically strongest members of the crew just that he hasn’t mastered nen. Don’t sleep on our boy before you see him in action.
David Edos see that’s the thing though leorio is more interesting in the 2011 version than the old version to me mostly because a character doesn’t have to be strong to be likable but that’s just me though.

25:26 The 1999 one skipped plotlines to make room for the entire story to fit in, so yeah they skipped hisokas bloodlust for powerful opponents. Just know it is canon and that is how the manga played out.

The members of The Phantom Troupe are comparable in power to Hisoka. Gon is not even close to Hisoka as demonstrated in Heavens Arena. Think of the Troupe as a team of people as strong as Hisoka

I think in the 1999 version they tried to make it more more appropriate but in the 2011 version is the real Hisoka he’s like that in the manga and the biggest difference between them that the 1999 version had alot of fillers but 2011 version is just stuff from the manga
In the YorkNew Arc the 1999 version is more true to the manga. The 2011 version skipped multiple sections. More Phantom Troupe backstory in YorkNew, and more Phantom Troupe moments in Greed Island as well; in 1999 version. The only filler I noticed was in the Hunter Exam Arc, the girl after Killua and the Battleship (though that was awesome). Also, the 1999 version was darker then the 2011 (so not more appropriate), it even showed Killua holding and crushing the heart (2011 version just a sack).

Yall have to drop most of your preconceived notions about shounen anime whem watching this show. One, unlike most shounen protagonists Gon and Killua don't magically power up tp be the strong enough to defeat the main villains (who have trained for YEARS) after just a few months lmao. Two, you already know this show is not just about strength but about nen strategies and tactics so you can't assume shizuku is weaker just because she lost an arm wrestling match to gon (using her non-dominant hand lmao). Three, be prepared to see that not every arc is going to end in a battle of brute strength but more in a battle of emotions lol. Four, "power ups" in this world require great cost to the main characters, they don't just conveniently power up with no consequence to themselves just to win against a villain - that's why gon and killua need years of experience in trainig and why kurapika ****** ** **** *** **** *** *** *****. There are so many shounen tropes that this show subverts (won't go into more detail since you have to watch for yourself) and you got to keep an open mind

In the 1999 version Hisoka was more akin to a jester than a magician. A clown. It also wasn't 100% faithful to the manga. 1999 had quite a bit of filler (though a lot of it was actually pretty good and you wouldn't even know if you hadn't read the manga or seen this version first). Hisoka also did do that creepy shit. Specifically during the fight with Gon when Gon finally started getting his hits in. Hisoka smiles at Gon in the middle of a monologue of wanting to crush him. Also in the arc after this arc, theres a few perverted scenes of hisoka that were in that version that I won't spoil.
the 2011 is definitely closer to the manga than the 1999 version. the biggerst changes are probably the first episode and the testing gate ( in the manga gon and kurapika open 1 gate individually and leorio opens 2 gate by himself)
