How to Make Table of Contents in Word

- Learn how to add a table of contents into your document in Microsoft Word.
First, I show you how to add headings to your document. Text that uses a heading is automatically included as part of a table of contents. Once headings are created, we click into the References tab and insert a table of contents. I also show you how to update the page numbers and update the table of contents if you make any changes to it.

Excellent video. I haven't used Table of Contents since my 150 page MA Thesis 20 years ago. This refresher was all I needed. I now remember that I wrote most of it in outline mode to make it easier to jump between sections as I added things. I dread this next document I have to write. But at least I have turned the main outline into a table of contents.

I have been using word for years and even paid someone to do my TOC. Now I am working such a huge project that I had no choice but to put in a table of contents to be productive. Your video is so clear and easy to follow. Now I am a fan and will come back to learn more.

Kevin, you fricken saved the day with this tutorial. I was going crazy trying to figure out how to build a Table of Contents. Then in a just a few minutes, I couldn't believe how easy it was to create. You do have to have all your content built before you add you headers for the ToC. Thanks

Excellent video. Very clearly explained with a good pace that users can follow along-side and stay encouraged that they too can do this. Good examples that are simple but not simplistic, helpful demo of explaining basic then 'manual' table of contents.

Thanks! Saved me today. I’d forgotten the art of headings. However, how come the software can’t create a table of contents via numbering? It would be so much easier. 1 = heading 1. 1.1 = heading 2. And then 2 = heading 1. Etc

Great video Kevin. I didn't use Word for my TOC bc I didn't know how to create one. Your explanation was great and if I had watched your video prior to creating my TOC in Word, I would have used Word. Since I have already created my TOC manually, how do I insert ...... 3(page 3) in my TOC. BTW, I use a Mac. Thank you so much.
