Norm’s a pro. Leland Sklar walks in, yet Norm doesn’t break customer engagement.
Respect!
Cool place. Looks like most people in there are unaware of the bass guitar legend walking amongst them.😁
I love Normans, I started going to him back when he was on Sherman Way or Saticoy. Whenever I’m back In the valley I have 2 stops , Bea’s Bakery in Tarzana and then drive down Ventura blvd to Norman’s before heading back home to San Luis Obispo. Tell Norm hi and glad to see he’s doing well, Mr Sklar great video as always.
Oh and up here we have a great shop Called Lightning Joes in Arroyo Grande.
Before coming here I went to Bea’s and got a dozen chocolate chip danish’s.
@@lelandsklar6363 Nice it’s one of the things that I miss about living in Calabasas and I’m sure that I helped with the down payment on Norman’s house in Calabasas. Take care, I’m jealous enjoy your pastry.
Norm looks good. I've been coming to his channel for a while now. He's lost some weight and he just looks healthy as hell. All the best to everyone out there.
Norm was all messed up about a year ago.
I’d have been freaking out if I’ve seen you there Mr. Sklar🎉
So brilliant to see that America still has sane people,👍.
I am humbled by this visit Lee. Like yourself, Norm is a legend. Good to see Norm is doing well!! Thanks Lee!
I like how the one dude just goes about with his sanding work
Holy Mother of God - those amps - and every guitar a treasure!
Norms is a throwback. Harkining back too a time when Retailers would completely Doll up their premises with accessible and interactive product and All easily seen with expansive room too enjoy. For a musician its a DisneyLand,Cedar Point and World Class Arcade. He caters too every level at any price and is a Gem of a Human Being. Norm Rocks!
Have not seen this shop as your have shown it nicely done
Cool, I've never seen a full walk thru of the shop before.
I’ve made an annual pilgrimage to Norm’s for quite a while. I almost always leave with a guitar 🎸 that I don’t need, but somehow can’t live without ❤
Love the guy in the shop fret dressing ! As a luthier that is a lot of what I do to make a guitar play great ! Norm is the best!
Nice tour thanks Lee.
Wow! Seeing all those old fender amps and guitars really brought back memories for me. I think I might have had them all at one time. Bandmasters, super Beatles amps, telecasters, Gibson, Gretsch on and on. Back in the day we used to play them for a few months then trade them for something else. All gone now. The only thing I have left is a Fender short scale Mustang. Super fast action. I love it. But yes, I love music stores like that. Lots of kindred spirits in there, I'd say . Thanks for the tour Lee!
Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for the tour 🎸
Thanks for the tour, Lee. That was fun. I miss going to music shops like back when I lived in a city area and there were several. Certainly not Norms but good fun anyways.
Thanks for the tour.
Thanks for the tour of Norms!!!!
Brings back great memories from late '70's before the move, searching for a White Falcon😎👍
😎👍❤🖖
Love Brother
Amazing place👍👍❤
Some very nice kit in Norms. Great tour, thx!
That's what heaven must be like. If only I could play.
Never too late to start learning
I saw a few I wouldn't mind owning. Cool shop.
Thanks for the flashback! There are a few new toys at Norm's, but a lot of the gear looks a lot like the gear I used to covet there 30+ years ago. And Norm looks amazing. When you go back for the book signing, ask him about his new health regime (I need a few pointers)...
thanks Leland. norm is a great guy.
A guitar player's candy store 👍
Might be time to take the 'Masks Required' sign off the door 😆 - seriously though, that's a SWEEET looking store. Holy moly 🎸
Sadly no one seems to wear them now. Some but not many.
A tour of Guitarzana!
Great tour Lee and even this Aussie knows about them. I thought Norm had been really unwell a couple of years ago but could be wrong. Vale Harry Belafonte and thank you for the memories. 🙏🙏
Harry Belafonte will be missed, beside his talent he was a political activist and worked with Martin Luther King from the early days on.
Yes, Norm was very ill. Good to see him looking well.
Glad to see Norm looking good. I haven't been able to visit for a few years, now. I may have to remedy that after the summer work slog winds down in the fall. Cheers and good health to everyone at NRG!
"Only" $4295 for the Dan Armstrong lucite bass ---- and it's cheaper than the three Fender basses to the right of it. Yikes!
Love these kinds of interviews. Stuff I normally wouldnt see. Great shop. 😁
Sweet spot highly recommend getting your gear from Norman’s Rare Guitar
He also buys your instruments
Thank you 😊 💓
In 35+ years of going in and out of shops, my holy grail has always eluded me. I have never seen a Wal in person! Concerts don't count. But never have I run across one leads to the obvious that I've yet to play on. Part of the hunt is the excitement to be sure!
Norm Looks GREAT! Glad he's back to full health! This vid reminds me that I'd better drop in soon... will be moving away in a few weeks. Thanks Lee!
My wife saw me looking at the guitars, and she said, "Oh no!"😊
We LOVE Norm Harris
This was quite a treat. ✌️🤟👍
I bought my first square neck Dobro from Norm himself in about 1974-75ish. The store was a lot smaller then! I remember him being really nice to a kid without a clue (me) from Canada.
My two top shows collide, and come together at one time I can’t believe it!
Bob Bitchen, people stealing, the wall of shame, and that's just in the first 30 seconds. The stuff of Genius. Well done.
Thanks for posting.
I live near Norm's, have a handful of vintage guitars but I've never been in the store. I'm pretty sure there's nothing there I could afford. This video is as close as I'll get to seeing the store.
Yikes! Guitar heaven. If I had the green.
It feels so good to see norm again in such a good shape, love from holland!
I believe it was Norms rare guitar shop that supplied the famous Harp guitar in 1976 for the ending of The Last Waltz theme tune ! That's the instrument that looks like it was made from wood from a primeval forest ...
You have out done yourself. What a wonderful journey. Thank you for taking us there. I remember the great Mandolin Brothers in Staten Island. Stan Jay was the greatest. I miss him and that amazing store. I just listen to Sharon’s Song by Joni Mitchell about Mandolin Brothers to reminisce. George Harrison famously got a few ukuleles from there.
I appreciate you, thank you for making content.
Oh man, those amps...Fender splendor!
Thanks for showing us around.
I loved the guitar, that was half transparent 👍
It can be yours for the low, low price of $4295.
It reminded me of Keith Richards’ 1969 Ampeg Dan Armstrong See-Through Guitar

Memories can be a pillow bed on a restful sojourn
Wooow ... Thank you 👍🙏
Always watch guitar of the day. Hope I can go in there some day.
I usually view and comment on Guitar of the Day uploads from one of my other channels with my real name, Eric B. Gordon. Thank you for having given your viewers a nickel tour of the whole shop, Mr. Sklar.
A fave place to go whenever I hit LA.
Holy guitars! 🎸🎸🎸🎸😆
I'll take one of each. Lovely store! Thanks for showing us Norm's store. What a nice guy!
Love ya, Lee! ❤
What an incredible video. Thank you for sharing!
Always wanted to visit there! A national treasure, and so much history. Norm looks great.
Norm's Rare Guitars had a great youtube channel too!!!!
Am hoping you’re there to do a demo!
Driven by, but never gone in. The "rare" word (next to guitars) scares my wallet.
made a trip to Norm's while attending a NAMM show pre pandemic. Norm is a WAY cool, humble, gracious cat. I played a few guitars, chatted with Norm a bit, and of course grabbed a t shirt. DEF worth the trip if you are in SoCal (I live in CO)
Beautiful!
Love the video at the 7:00 minute mark. You ain’t dead yet Lee!
I've been to his store once, long time ago. Very frustrating by the way. Every piece I liked, guitar, bass or amp was worth more than what I could pay. Thousands of Dollars. But what a fun place to spend a couple of hours to checked on magnificent pieces of gear.
Greetings from México.
You are not alone, some punk bands and garage bands get a kick out of playing cheap guitars really well. They learn to do their own repair and mod work or find one who does. Many black blues singers in the 20's and 30's played on Sears or other cheap guitars. 👍
@@artemisXsidecross , I've seen video of Howling Wolf playing a Gibson Firebird through a Silvertone amp. And without folks like Ry Cooder, David Lindley, and Dan Forte, Teisco and Kawai and Silvertone guitars would still be cheap as dirt.
Guitar heaven! Cheech marin
wow, that guitar tech, "asking if he could help you". too funny.
Leland CSUN jazz would love to hear from you
That B3 and Leslie are just too much!!!!
Awesome tour man. Thanks!!
Norm looks good!
Makes me wonder how many times Stairway to heaven was played by upcoming musicians. Great vlog. 😎👍👍✌
Bought an instrument from Norm when he was in Reseda.
Love this video!❤
That is so cool.
This place is on my Bucket List...
I would’ve swung by
That was fun!
Nice video! I was out there last month and it was my first time in the store. great bunch of people there. Got myself a really cool LP JR. thanks Again Norm!
Cooool!
Hi, Legendary Lee!
OMGOSH!!! Thanks!!!
❤hi Lee!
Thank you Lee! You saved me a trip to Tarzana! Didn't Norm have a different location back in the 80s? I think on Tampa? I went there once and talked to Norm about a damaged Gibson 335.
@DEA-I-H FVCK DES-I-ROYER I drove past there today, space looks empty
Lee, I wonder how comfortably that Bootsy Collins-style bass at 2:55 would fit in a person's lap.
This was great! We don't get to see the whole shop on their channel. My ol buddy Nick there at the end.
You were two blocks from me!!
Going to do a book signing there on May 6th
Cool visit. Thanks!
"Somebody loan me a dime..."
The repair man has had just about enough of your shenanigans
Oriental dude wasn't gonna let the presence of a base legend get in the way of his work ethic...🙂
Awsome.
Was that a Gibson L-1 in the confessional booth?!
❤
The most amazing part is all the stuff you don’t see hidden away in storage over the years
@5:30 man is like F*ck that 14th fret ski jump...
Was that a Cameo of Jen at the 6:55 mark?!!!
was that a actual 50's p bass. or a reissue. the blue G&L. looked cool.
