HOLY SH!T!!! I was at this concert! The acts were: Yes; Peter Frampton; Gentle Giant; Gary Wright; Rubicon. The show lasted all day and well into the night - it was a 70s thang. What I remember about Gary's performance, is that the low notes coming out of all those old analog synthesizers, really shook the ground. Wow...I was 16-years-old at the time. Thank you for posting this video. For a second there, I was 16 again.
When concerts killed it! I loved the carefree times of the 70's! So glad people had the sense to film concerts like these! Gary Wright still can kill this song!
1976...my favorite year. Bicenntennial, Beer Can Collections, Billy Beer, Flairs, Red Meat Barbecues, Stadium Shows. And this is why SynthPop is still cool today!!!!
The 70's songs were much about * LOVE * and falling in love, looking for love, lost love, found love, but mainly LOVE... Real singers real creativity , real voices, real smiles, real people.... now most of the newer music a loss and tragedy ....
I was at that show. 16 years old at the time. He was one of my inspirations for learning to play keyboards, synths, Hammond, etc. The Famous San Diego Chicken was in attendance (known then as the KGB Chicken for the rock radio station) Fond memories for sure.
Simpler time yes....this song in 76 huge... Philadelphia freedom. & Afternoon delight . 2 songs. Big this era....Watching Captain Kangaroo 😋😋🎧Playing my 45s🎶😲🎵
ALL RIGHT SAN DIEGO! I really like this video--Gary looks like he's having the time of his life up on that stage, playing for thousands...good for him!
Absolutely perfect!!! Love the beat, sound, voice and smile......What a song can do to bring back memories, feelings and emotions!! This song is alive eternally alive!. Gary was before his time,,,, rather, before, during and after!!
Saw this guy with Peter Frampton in lakeland fla. in 76, My first concert Ill never forget. I was thuroughly wowed out. I was just 14. It was just the begining.....
A few days ago I had the joy and honor of having this same experience ! Gary Wright came to New York City on April 17, 2010. He delivered a fantastic performance at the B.B.Kings club, in Times Square ! Now after 34 years I have finally had my wish granted by seeing him in person. Fantastic !
You are correct about Porcaro. Aside from TOTO most folks would very surprised to know how many hit songs he has performed on. His late brother as well. Both were excellent musicians.
My Dad carried me to that show. Still have the ticket stubs. I was 7 years old and remember it. We were down there on Vacation. We also seen Three Dog Night one year. Good old days.
Even though I lived in San Diego at this time I didnt get to go to Balboa stadium to see Gary Wright. One year before this though fleetwood mac played there in the day time too. During a part before Fleetwood Mac went on I was by myself sitting up in those seats to Gary Wrights left up there to his left. You could see all around the back stage area. So after awhile I looked down and saw Christine \Mcvee nd Stevie Nicks strolling together so Like the 17 year old I was I yelled out Hi stevie Hi Christine and then Stevie Nicks looked up and waved to me! That was so nice it made me feel good.
Man, look at the size of that audience! What a great band. Holy crap. This is a young Steve Porcaro! They opened for Yes and Frampton? Oh I'm cryin now. I wish I could have gone to that concert!
I've watched this vid dozens of times and it just occurred to me tonight that he is opening for Yes. Look at the Roger Dean designed pod thing above his head during the low angle shots of him onstage. The props are unmistakably for Yes. View 2:19-2:29. You can see the fantasy creature arm and pod assembly that was part of Yes' stage spectacle on that tour. I can't believe I never saw that, focused on Gary most of the time. That must have been an incredible evening, wow. I wish I was there.
Gary Wright is one of few singers who could rock his voice just as well live as he could in the studio. One incredible musician, Gary was never given the credit and standing he probably should have had throughout the 70's and beyond. Although Gary did well, he is an incredible talent that should have went on to super stardom with a bunch more of these types of hits!
Sad, but true, it depends a lot on US as parents to rebuild the system, little by little, these videos and postings are a good way to say, let's go back to those days, enjoy good music and learn something nice from that era, take the best out of it of course ! Cheers !
On this day in 1976 {July 30th} Gary Wright performed "My Love Is alive" on the NBC-TV program 'The Midnight Special' Three months earlier on April 17th is entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually is peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} & spent over a half-year on the Top 100 {27 weeks} The record was his second straight release to peaked at #2; "Dream Weaver" stayed at #2 for 3 weeks and stayed on the Top 100 for 20 weeks Mr. Weaver celebrated his 70th birthday three months ago on April 26th
my friend was invited to the dream weaver party in the summer of 1975 in the demerest area and he said it was fantastic wilderness and he even referred to it as being "dream land". and in the autumn of that year the record store in paramus park shopping mall displayed the album cover in the front of the display window all the way till the late summer of 1976. and when people in new jersey talk about jersey they always say he comes from bergen county.
WOW what a rare & wonderful video! The previous comment below mentions the Gary Wright / Peter Frampton tour - right on... one place I know they played for sure is my hometown of Panama City, Florida. Must've been 1976. I won a ticket to the show from a local radio station but being young and stupid I sold it, thus missing the show! Regretted it to this day. Seeing this video helps me get over it (a bit).. thank you!.
He says right at the end "all right San Diego, good to have you with us" So I take it that's Jack Murphy stadium. That was when people could be civil to eachother, even young people in large masses.
The 70's the decade is way before my time but I have seen many concert on youtube and on dvd and seen movies and films and from what I have gathered the decade looks like it was a positive time for young people. To me it seems that everyone is so happy and carefree. Could anyone tell me about the -1970's what life was like in the 70's please.
This artist is originally from the Paramus area + recently the Bergen Mall was playing his original "Love Is Alive" all thru the shopping mall + it was like time travelling back to december 1975 again when all u heard on every radio station was both of his #1 hit songs. it was super cool. i read the songs on that album were developed in a barn type studio in the cresskill area about the year before when they discovered the dwarskill mastodon in Rivervale in the Northern Valley area
Great synth sound & awesome band. I love the "Dream Weaver" album since it's release in 1975. This is a great live version. Quite different that the studio version. Cheers !!!
I never hear this song on the radio until I heard it on my free SiriusXM subscription that came with my car on the classic vinyl station- this is such a great live version. Brings back the memories of the greatest era.
the tambourine girl is Lorna. in the summer of 1975 there was a party around Closter and my friend went, no doubt the tamborine girl was there. i saw my frend who played on all his old albums @ the april concert and i saw the tambourine girl! she saw me too but i was 2 shy 2 introduce myself. we're all from this same area in the northern valley section of bergen county. he's my hero 'koz wen i 11 all we all loved 2 talk about was his #1 song that got me thru the nite and all my friends .

Zammataro Stradivarius But the 1970's was the best. After the 1970's everything started to suck artistically.
The 70's songs were much about * LOVE * and falling in love, looking for love, lost love, found love, but mainly LOVE...
Real singers real creativity , real voices, real smiles, real people.... now most of the newer music a loss and tragedy ....

ALL RIGHT SAN DIEGO! I really like this video--Gary looks like he's having the time of his life up on that stage, playing for thousands...good for him!
Live in San Diego CA. Summer of 1976. What a great time in America to be a teenager.
The great Gary Wright, discovered by none other than the great George Harrison.
Damn, these are great memories! Back when shows were an event, B.Y.O.B., and $10 a ticket.
I want to go back in time to the 70s and get stoned . No doubt about it the 70s were the best years of my life .
This was a HUGE song in the 70’s. Radio all the time. One of the best of that decade.

Please let this be embedded. There are more of us who love this than you think.
Knew this song but didn't know it was by Gary. A nice slice of the 70s. Dreamweaver is, of course, timeless.
Man, look at the size of that audience! What a great band. Holy crap. This is a young Steve Porcaro! They opened for Yes and Frampton? Oh I'm cryin now. I wish I could have gone to that concert!
LOVE IS ALIVE !!
