- The fantastic voyage of Jefferson Starship rose from the remains of the legendary Jefferson Airplane. Charter members Grace Slick and Paul Kantner join co-lead singer Mickey Thomas, guitarist Craig Chaquico and the rest of the band in rousing renditions of Airplane and Starship greatest hits for The Definitive Concert.

Mickey Thomas is CRIMINALLY underated as a singer.
Pipes of gold! Still to this day.
Pretty freaking epic ain't he 😮
Jefferson Starship is a group with a lot of amazing music 🎶 🎵 I don't think that they got the credit and recognition that they deserved 🎉🎉. They are the epitome of rock and roll 🎉🎉
Way ahead of their time.
Mickey Thomas deserves to be in the conversation of greatest rock vocalist along with the likes of Steve Perry and Freddie Mercury
❤💯
Freddie! No others!
@@csw166 Freddie! No others!
Robin Zander and Lou Graham also
That dude can flat out sing.
A powerful song-Mickey Thomas can reach those high notes with no problem at all.
He brought this band back!
We saw 38 Special with Jefferson Starship. A great gig in the early 80's !
Mickey Thomas is one of the most underrated rock singer’s ever!!Aloha from Hawaii🤙🏽
His range is unequaled in music! He still hits those notes, which just amazes me
@@Jamestele1 *her
@@danielbauer9027*his I believe Mickey Thomas (John Michael Thomas) is the lead vocalist on this song.
Agreed!
@@mrs.dinahsaur7195 I got to see Mickey Thomas perform with Starship in 1987 at the Lahaina Civic Center and the Gregg Allman Band opened🤙🏽
BACK WHEN ROCK WAS THE BEST!!!!! Great Voices!!!
Probably one of the best vocalists of all time! Definitely one of the most underrated!
saw them live ur right whata voice!
What’s his rating?
I agree. On almost every live performance he is flawless. On par with Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin.
When I was young I said If I had a 3 wishes to change my voice like a rock star 3.Boston:Brad Delp 2.Foreigner:Lou Graham #1:Micky Thomas:Starship. I still try at 58 singing along to them in my truck 🚛 🤙🏼
Lou Gramm ;)
These are my three favorite voices, too. How I'd wish to reach their vocal strength in such high tones!
I thought Bobby Kimball in early Toto had a great tone and range as well. But theres no denying Mickys voice doesnt shine...especially here!
You know he's the voice behind "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" as well.
@@crupert23225 thats Elvin Bishop
For many years i wanted to see Starship and Mickey Thomas on concert. After a couple of missed opportunities my wife and I made it. The band did not disappoint and that was 3 years ago. Seems like yesterday.🙏😎
Craig Chacquico, much underappreciated guitarist!
Seriously, he's awesome!
If you didn't know he did some solo material also.@@disseminationnetwork
Incredible guitarist
Still blown away by Mickey's voice, especially in this song
This man can sing like no other. Mickey is one of the greats!
He was awlright…..till he fooled around and fell in love.
No filters or auto tune. He's the sh*t.
Your right
More Cowbell !!!
Late 70s Gold JANE
Two power house voices of all time in the Rock music industry 💯 Grace Slick & Mickey Thomas ….
Great Band!!!! Takes me Back!!!!! Im 70, still Rock n Roll!!!!!!!!!!! Till ☠️💀☠️🖤!!!!!!!
He built that mustache on rock n roll.
Effortless.
🔥
Lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thats verys funny! Little hard on us rockers that can't grow one.
In my opinion this is the best one ever recorded by Jefferson Starship A real masterpiece
I have to agree. One of the best songs for me of all time.
🤙🏻
the song miracles is better and the singer Marty Balin was better to
👍👍💯💯
Saw them in concert in 80.
Seen alot of concerts back then, and these guys and April Wine were easily the best live bands back then imo.
They were just as good live if not better than their recordings.
MICKEY THE GREAT ONE! NEVER TO BE IMITATED OR DUPLICATED BY ANYONE! A CLASS OF ONE!
Hes incredible on voice only vocals too. True singer.
Great song number one hits 1979 great masterpiece 4/13/2024❤🎉
I don't know who has a higher voice Grace Slick or Mickey Thomas. Classic.
Ahh, yes. JANE JANE JANE!!!!! My favorite song!!!!! I love my plain name.
Grace Slick, one of the Queens of Rock n Roll.
She is the queen. She inherited that title when Janis Joplin passed.
4:20
Great band, all the way back to The Airplane. Grace was 🔥.
I saw Jefferson Starship and Starship in the 80s. I just saw Starship with Mickey last week. Dude is 74 and still sounds like he did in the 80s. He's one of the only vocalists I can think of that still can sing like he used to in the old days. Great vocalist and band!
Just listened to a recent version of Mr. Thomas performing Fooled Around and Fell in Love live. His voice at 74 is incredible. His pipes defy gravity. To boot he looks fantastic which I hope denotes good health. Way to go Micko.
Huge range, makes me feel like I have throat cancer if I ever tried that.
Unbelievably …so can Mike Reno from Loverboy. Don’t look the same, but sure sounds the same. Saw them this past summer. Unbelievable.
Check out Graham Bonnet. He sounds the same as he did in the early 80s.
@deerseed Yes, Graham is great! I saw him back in the day with Alcatraz.
I saw this concert it was killer.
Freshly Squeezed!
Man they sound tight! Peak Starship for me!
Mickey Thomas had the VOICE!
One of the best 70s songs Jane
Like Steve Perry, just hit the perfect notes live!
We saw Mickey Thimas at are local Italian feast . Our city pays big money for the biggest stars every year . We saw him last year . He still sounds good as ever !
One of Mr Dilly's.... Favorite.. Jefferson Starship songs.. Hard driving Rock and Roll !!!👍🎸😎
Anybody ever notice this is the same piano part Aldo Nova uses in his song , Fantasy from a couple years later?
Those days are gone..............we have our memories!
What days they were!
So freaking good! This song still gets me out of my seat! Whoa!!!
Went to high school with Craig. Great start with our English teacher, Jack Traylor (Steelwind). My guitar teacher back in the day was Mr Schmit. Timmy's dad.
Timmy, as in Timothy B.? Pretty cool, if so.
This is one Jane I can never get enough of!!!
One of my favorite songs ever.
This tune never gets old
I slept with this song on a 45. My father would come in my room and turn it off I woke up and started it over again. Night after night.
Craig's guitar work is perfect here.
Pretty sweet B.C. rich mockingbird he's playing too.
@@user-qr7ee2cp4y Always loved the Mockingbird, just a beautiful guitar.
Actually before the video started I wondered to myself if he would be playing the Carvin star shaped guitar. As a teen I used to get the Carvin catalogs and always remembered Craig appearing all through it.
@@frogstomp11I almost bought a Carvin amp back in the 70's, I used to get the catalog too. I did have a BC Rich Mockingbird though. 🎶
Craig has always been a "rock star" that I've admired. Regardless of which guitar he plays, however, there's definitely something sexy about a B.C. Rich Mockingbird! That's just beast of a guitar for certain.
Yes, Craig Chaquico is one of those people born to play rock guitar on stage. He's got the ability, good taste and he always looks the part. His solo work is really great too.
Great classic rock Jefferson airplane back when music was music this is an old video but I still love it and I love Jefferson airplane music rock on guys 🎶🎸🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶🎵🎶🎸🎸🎶🎵🎸🎸🎵🎵🎸🎵🎸
this song is so incredible ❤ -
Killer execution of a killer song....lead singer is wicked good
Steve….are you by chance from the wicked pissah state of MA?
Mickey Thomas, how can you be a fan of the song/band and not know who he is? lmao
No auto tune.Mickey Thomas is straight up fantastic.
Micky Thomas Bad Ass
Saw Mickey Thomas at the NYS fair. In his 70s he is still just as good as he was in his 30s. Totally mind boggling. Check out the video from 2021
Good ole David Freiberg on bass (originally from Quicksilver). 84 yo and still rockin with the Jefferson Starship 👏
Wow, 84! He's up there with Bill Wyman (formerly of the Stones) for oldest of the musicians that brought us rock music in the mid-late 60's. The stories he must have to tell...more power to him.
LOVE THIS SONG ❤
Thanks for posting this song
Man, talk about sound track of my life. Back in HS when this song was all over the radio, I was broken hearted over my girlfriend's treatment of me. I remember leaving her house in the darkness and these lyrics coming to me. Of course her name was Jane. Cant hear it without all that coming back in a rush.
Oh yes that brings back some memories, but now I know that time of our lives was our learning relationship 101. And the other big one was trying my best to not get an erection every time I saw a girl. 5 kids later I figured it out. And I still listen to Micky Thomas @ 75 and it makes me feel young again.
Same here brother. Nothings better than GOOD OLE ROCK . I'm 61 and still dance to this song
Right on. I'm 67 and the lady is 63 and we still rock to these.
I first saw Mickey Thomas in 1981 when Elvin Bishop opened for ZZ Top. Such a tremendous voice! He was a great addition to Starship.
Was he with Elvin Bishop then? I the was in Jefferson Starship since 1979
He left Elvin Bishop in 1978. He debuted with JS a year later on this very song.
@@andypaulus9420 Mickey sang lead on Fooled Around and Fell in Love in 1975.
All time classic rock!!!
I wish commercial radio played this song more than once in a while. I would LOVE to catch myself saying, "again?".
Saw this lineup in Sept of '82. Mickey sounded even better live
Awesome song. Heard this song also in the movie Cocaine Bear.
One of the best top 5 songs of all time!!!!!
You UNDER RATE the song!!!
You overrate this song.
I love it, I miss good rock.
All these decades later, I still can’t get over how great of a banger this song is. 🎸🎹🥁🎤
I wonder if Mr. Kantner and Ms. Slick ever saw the irony of how Jefferson Airplane renamed and evolved to become an arena-rock counterpoint to its early self.
Might have happened when they cashed the checks
That comments makes no sense. Those guys played Woodstock.
@@guitarslim56 Which comments?
I know for a fact Paul did, I’m not sure about Grace though.
@@guitarslim56 Don't be a dumb ass all your miserable life, ok? Bands, all bands are in it for the fucking money. I guess you've never been in a band.
Just discovering this song by them and honestly it is incredible to me how this group emerged and evolved into the 80s , which is how I first discovered them. And that this song is easily one of their finest works and only has 4K views on CZcams. Sometimes it’s the lesser known stuff that is the gold mine. Now I get to go back and enjoy these iconic tunes that evoke a totally different style, a raw one with zero filters or effects other than the power of the instruments and voices themselves.
unless you are under 55-60 you couldn't have missed "Jane" in 1979. It was everywhere. By far the best thing they did.
He also sang ,Fooled around and fell in Love with Elvin Bishop Band ,His Best Song!!!
I’m not even 30 and I’ve been listening to them since I was 6 . Jefferson airplane - starship is my shit
A quintessential 80s rock classic! Awesome live version! ❤❤❤
Pretty impressive for a song released in 1978.
Great rock music and great time growing up in America.
Best ERA ever, Mickey has the chops.....
Yep, he sure does have a one in a million voices, and it comes so easy to him, with no effort 👍🎶🎤🎤
Wow!!’ This sounds tight like you were listening to the radio or LP…nice job Mickey as usual
Saw them in florida somewhere. Lol. Class of 84 methuen high school
Every time i hear this song, i want to put a denim jacket on, some sunglasses and give thumbs up to people
Starship rocks!
Wtf. How have I not heard of this guy? Some of the best live vocals I've ever seen and I bet he isn't even using his full potential.
>> How have I not heard of this guy?
Classic Hard Rock, at it's finest!!
A lot of talent on that stage !!!!
Kids nowadays don't know what talent is.
Great hook in this song - a true rock classic.
Mickey Thomas' tremendous vocal talent on full display in this track.
Let's time travel to fall/winter 1979. Ninth grade, today is gym class. It's indoors because it's cold in Ohio, and this week we're playing table tennis. I'm not very athletic but it's a fun class because the teacher is nice enough to let us have a radio on. This guitar solo starts and I'm watching the guy I have a huge crush on play air guitar ❤🎸
Same timeline...those were the days!
Descent! A classic example of rock'n'roll! It'll be around for so long! As long as the wind blows through the night! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸😎😎😎😎
I always wanted to do this one. Love Mickey.
Excellent live version, new on me, awesome! 🎸
agree
Just got chills being able to watch this performance. Wonderful!
Love this. One of my top songs of all time. Buf a one bit of one a hitt wonder
Jefferson Airplane were streets ahead creativity wise of this identikit rock....
I saw them in 1979. Royal Oak music Theatre. Royal Oak Michigan. I was invited by my girlfriend to go to the show. I didn’t know anything about it. But when they performed this song, I was blown away, and I have been a fan ever since
Just when everyone thought Jefferson Starship were done after Marty left. Mickey walked in.
Marty Balin and Grace Slick have THE voices!!!!❤ Always loved them, all their songs.💋
Marty Balin (RIP) is not in this performance.
I remember when this started getting airplay in Nov, 1979. An awesome song to close out the decade but I was sad to see it go as it was a great ten years.
Gotta give credit where credit's due - Cocaine Bear reminded me what an epic tune this is and I've been listening almost daily since watching it
I was 11 yrs old and this blew me away
Wow great live version.
Jane is the story of my endlessly sad love life.
This song will be Rockin 🤘🎸For Generations to come. Total head banger.
Discovered this song last year…kicks a$$.
REALLY its from 1979 The Gol 70s
His soaring tenor is so effortless
What a voice on Mickey 👌🏻
Jefferson Starship playing before our fireworks show Kokomo Indiana. Kathy Richardson awesome vocalist with band. I am looking forward to the concert. I have heard a lot of good things about Mickey Thomas.
Just a great live band, DANG!
He is so effing adorable and that voice! Omg! Kicked ass! Saw him live not too long ago and I swear his voice has not changed at all. Love him ❤
Sometimes...words cannot express the wicked goodness of this experience.
I saw these guys around this time it was the last tour grace performed live with them. they were very professional polished musicians.
Grace doing White rabbit live and it being her last tour, I look back, Pretty Epic.
Great guitar solo!
