  • Closing arguments are crucial to confirm your version and at the same time refute the version of your opponent.
    The main purpose of closing arguments is to sensibly summarise your matter by focusing on all the facts that were proven in your favour during the hearing/arbitration by confirming the facts.
    You want the chairman at the disciplinary hearing to agree that:
    Your view of the case is supported by the facts and
    Your opponent’s view is either not supported at all or is less probable than yours.
    Style and Tactics in your Closing Address:
    Be natural; be yourself;
    Be confident and competent, which you will be if you prepare yourself well;
    Speak without emotion but not without some passion;
    Use an orderly presentation;
    Have a clear view of what you are going to say;
    Keep your strong points for the beginning and the end;
    Make concessions where appropriate;
    Deal with the other side’s case briefly and
    Be honest, be brief.
