- Today we are taking a quick run through Snow Summit's tree lines with the brand new Removu S1 handheld gimbal. While it's not limited to only being handheld, it makes for a very nice companion in wet and icy conditions since it's tough and waterproof. We are using the GoPro Hero5 Black running at 2k 60fps.

Finally your back. Your reviews are the best
Wheres the hero5 and x3000 review?
looks good!
Glad you're back Mark !
Thanks! I'd say I'm around. Lots of things changed towards the end of 2016. I'll be posting from time to time but won't be covering everything like I use to. I'll explain it in detail in a future video. Appreciate you taking the time to leave this response though. Means a lot to me.
great video an edit!
can't wait to get mine! I do hear the motor on it, which is a bummer but meh still stoked!!
Great quality !!!!!! Just curious as to what mode you used on the S1 for this video ?
Hey Markhawkcam, can you please do a review on the GoPro Hero5 Session? I want to get it before my snowboarding trip. Thanks you the best!
Nice. Thanks for the vid. Just got mine today and looking forward to using it. Question, if you see this. No issue shooting the "selfie" pointing back at you view. I saw another reviewer saying he thought the bulky part of the gimbal body might get in the way of that. Do you use and extender pole or just the grip that came with?
What did you use to edit this? looks good.
beautiful footage, Mark! Please do a 'best cams for helmets' especially helpful for vulnerable bicyclists.
I do wish there was a camera similar to some dash camera that save a duration of footage before and after when a certain level of g-force is experienced by the camera. Also if similar to a Tesla, they could read and record road signs and license plates around the time of impact.
X3000's optical stabilization was awesome for MTN biking. However, it captured lens flares so easy. Never seen that before. The footage looked great but those flares were intense.
Why didn't you show any video of the actual stabilizer and how it works? Construction, weight, ease of use? Would it work with a Contour Roam?
That's for more of a review. This was a quicklook at how it just performs out of the box. This is just me turning it on and passing it off to a friend. A review would take a ton more time and effort, a lot of which I don't have right now. I suggest checking out my buddy Jeremy's review here: czcams.com/video/WTYnmMfjGE4/video.html
Also would only work for the provided adapters available to it. Currently its the standard Hero3, 3+, 4, and Hero5 for the time being. Not sure what their status is on the Session line but they have talked about possibly supporting others such as Sony and Garmin.
Am undecided between Removu S1 and Karma Grip. Really struggling to decide...
I returned the KArma Grip. Very very poor design. The function of keeping your camera charged is stupid because ok camera is charged now i have a dead gimbal. The other issue is it's not portable at all and the way you put the gopro in the grip causes the Hero5 to have a well know sound issue that has yet or i fear will never be fixed. Bad bad design. They rush it like the karma drone. I got the S1 and will have it tomorrow and seen great reviews. Its portable. Great battery left and you can swap gopro batteries without and issue and the sound issues with the hero 5 is not present with the S1.
There is a lot of motor noise. Is that common with the S1?
I haven't really had any complaints about noise. I'm mostly using this on the snow or in crunchy rough terrain. Found it way quieter then something like the DJO OSMO.
You're alive? :O
Is there still a possibility of you releasing the X3000 vs. Hero 5 vs. Virb Ultra 30 vs. Yi 4K comparison?
Little chance on the Hero5 front. I got one of the launch Hero5 and had some issues. I also have been fighting a lot of stuff lately. Technical time constraining issues was one of the ones that killed me most last holiday season :p
MarkHawkCam Yeah, the German amazon reviews for the Hero 5 are 50% good and 50% bad.
How did you like the X3000 during the time you had it though? :)
That optical stabilization was something else. Worked really well. Found the lens flares though to be crazy. It seemed to catch the rays or the sun and make every shot look like it was on the set of one of my VFX shows :p Beleive I was disappointed with the photos but I'd have to check my notes. I really loved it for Mountain biking though. Keeping it simple without a gimbal was great. Still think the Garmin Virb Ultra 30 was my #1 for 2016.
MarkHawkCam Interesting to know, thank you for your point of view :)
I don't understand all the great comments, the footage is shocking compared to a karma grip. The Removu S1 is clearly a better gimbal when it comes to design and features etc but when it comes to it's main purpose, its shocking. I've asked Removu when they're likely to release a firmware upgrade to fix the jitter issues but they have no idea, i'm not even sure there will be one so its pretty useless at the moment if you want stable footage.
Yeah, new update due in the next week according to a post on their fb page
Where have you been for the last year???
Life changes, medical issues, 2016... I'll explain it all one day.
Oh really sorry to hear that Mark, try and look after yourself, your health comes first.
actually the video is in 360p ....
You just came too early. It is never good to come too early
soft banana snowboard wrong snowboard...
Let's talk. So, I'm using a Burton Flying V from 2013 in this video while my buddy is using a Burton Nugg from 2014. Mine was much softer and a better novice board then the jerk who sold me a Custom X as being good for a beginner. (Razor sharp edges, no flex, all face plants!) Up until this year, I've been limited to mainline groomed resort trails. Water is finally coming back to California though and I love playing around in trees and exploring. Soft Banana or Gilson? Both offer a lot of flex. Banana is a huge financial commitment though.
Mark, rocker was my 1st board. It great for beginners and park, but for intermediate rider camber better. The easiest way to learn new things and improve technique. My second board is Ride Berzerker. It much better... very much. Next level of riding. I recommend to try it, but be careful, this board does not forgive mistakes, unlike yours.
