- In this episode, Aarron, my cousin Cole and I got invited to Kelly Slater's "Surf Ranch" by Geoffrey Yoon to do some surfboard testing. Geoffrey is a Cardiologist who hosts a Doctors' Summit twice a year, and he honored me with a spot to surf with him and 11 other doctors in February.
My experience at the Surf Ranch was incredible -- one of the best waves I have ever surfed! The staff at the Surf Ranch matched the wave quality with excellence. If I had to describe my experience in a couple words, they are "First Class." From the grounds it was built on, the staff that hosted us, the flavorful food, presentation, and the perfect rights and lefts blew my mind.
I wish the level of my surfing matched the wave... I found the wave to be very fast and a bit tough to get used to at first. In the first session, I struggled with fin size, which made my fist board choice feel tight and stiff. After making the adjustment to a medium-sized fin in my second session, I started to connect with the wave a bit.
At the end of the day, fun was had by all, and I am forever grateful to Geoffrey and all the doctors who included me in their special event. I also want to thank Kelly Slater and the folks at the Surf Ranch (KS Wave CO, WSL) for allowing us to turn on the camera and share our experiences with each other and our community. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
You are my #1 candidate for the next StabInTheDark.
Great stuff Noel, WSL should hire you as a commenter. Your stoke and technical knowledge is second to none.
hammer time Thank you for the kind words
Incredible - the Doctors surf awesome. The Sci-Fi 2.0 - firt time on that board - so much FLOW!!!!!
So good to see everyone ripping and having a great time ;)
First our local beach closed to pandemic, and now Noel surfing Medium fins!? We are living In the twilight zone.
Strange times for sure....
Noel, your video quality and editing skills have gone up another level! Stoked.
David Vesseur Yewww!! Cheers, worked hard on this one
Noel, you lucky bastard!! 🤣🤣🤣. I was gutted that you didn't get a front side barrel 😢. Geoff was killing it🤙. I know you wanted to try different boards but once you got on that 2.0 you were killing it!!! All the best in these strange times ahead.
Love the way you surfed the Sci-Fi 2.0
Fish beard and sci fi looked best under your feet. Ripping as always!
Always good to give someone a wave🤙🤙
Yeww next level 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼 and I agree the sci fi looked awesome...
Noel
I love your work. You are generous in sharing your knowledge and expertise, and so responsive to your “fanbase”
As an intermediate, I find that there is a lot of ego in the more skilled surfers - even a contempt for people like me that want to learn and grow
Thank you for your humility - both as a teacher but also as a student (which we all are)
Great video, fun to watch.
Great review as always and amazing what can happen just by talking to someone and being nice. Looks like a fun wave to work out with plenty of rewards when you do.
Looks like a blast, Noel. Funny, I was looking at the guy who invited you and I'm going, wait a minute, I surf with him all the time. Looked like a fun session, Geoff. Yew!!!
That right you had on the sci fi was next level
The first session on the fishbeard looked the best out of all of them. Sci-fi 2.0 looked second best. 🤘⚡️
Sci fi 2.0 looked awesome under your feet Noel! Seemed to keep up with the wave quite well. Same with the twin fin. Awesome video!
P.S Would've loved to have seen you ride the Cymatic!
Incredible rides, namely for the right !!! now that we are off for surfing down in Portugal (also due to CONVI19) it is very motivating to see this testing. and, I do agree, this is a first class wave. The winner for me was the Lost Driver.
Awesome!!!!
I believe a good fish will always be good backside!!!
Noel riding medium fins?! And you can really see just how powerful that wave is in this video with everyone riding it. That wave is not the perfect bunny slope the elite level pros make it look like, that wave is a beast flying like a freight train!
Great vid. Interesting insights. You definitely had a challenge riding all those at once. Great to see footage of the other regular guys giving it a dig.
Terence Ingram Absolutely... it was fun watching Doctors get barreled and have fun.
Just fantastic- love the descriptions and interviews/backgrounds....how good to have the vision and resources to execute KS wave pool. Keep it up, cheers from Down Under. Stay safe out there
Aaron Snell Cheers... you too
Oh boy, this is incredible.
Yes!
Great video!!! It was so nice to meet you and see you rip with us (although you ripped way harder than any of us)!!! Hope to have you surf with us again!!!
Rick James You guys are awesome... thank you for allowing us to crash your party. We hope to join you guys again soon
Legend, absolute legend
sick vid! The wave looks super challenging!
the pyzel and lost didn’t look great but crazy how easy you got into rhythm with that Fish - looked good!
I'd love to see a swordfish review and then maybe a fishbeard vs swordfish! Btw you were killing it on that sci fi!
Crazy how much better you surfed with the Science Fi vs the Pyzalien , I m shocked ! This wave looks very powerful !
Looks like a hard wave to ride even though it looks perfect.
Catch the Wave Yes... I would love to spend a little time working it out. Hats off to the Pros... they make it look so easy
Noel in board testing/surf break heaven! Living through you right now forsure! Great insights on the wave and how to adapt surfboard setups!! That backhand tube riding sure is tricky to figure out.
Jose Ande Yea.. my tune riding skills are pretty suspect. Never traveled much tube hunting but I would love to spend some time at the Surf Ranch and work it out a bit.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 it would be interesting to see how quickly it would take you to fine tune them at one of the waves pools - backside tube camp!
Jose Ande That would be so much fun...
Sci Fi 2.0 did look like a game changer..Maybe because I'm partial to LOST, you looked the best on the Driver, Maybe it's because you were dialed in & comfortable at that point..@ 10:56 vicious backside smash, NICE !!
Pretty cool that his brother lets him surf his wave pool!
Second best thing to ever happen in Lemoore
I would love to get a chance to surf the Ranch with my cousin James (Jimmy) (Red Dot) We were transplants from Hermosa Beach down to Encinitas in 1972, we used to surf Baja Malibu in the mid 70s before it got crowded, and into the 80s me...we have never been on a true surf trip together ever? Hard to believe...
Great job. My understanding is that the wave can be tuned to the needs of specific users (I.e. Pros, advanced, and intermediate; and the ability to fatten the wave as needed).
hope those doctors are surf out because they gonna be pretty busy in the coming weeks
adrien2035 Praying for them all...
Home boy battling in the barrel
Noel loving the vids🤙 we have a charter boat in the mentawais and would be honored to have you aboard. Keep up the great work!!
indosurftours So sick!!! Thank you for the invite! Cheers
I bet the Omni would work really well for the barrel section
not enough barrel practice in so cal
Tube riding is not my strong suit for sure....
That Sci Fi looked amazing under your feet-curious how the Alien woulda went with the Medium's since your episode on that board I though you looked great on.
yewwww so rad
Hooded suit in 58F ? !!! Lol hahahahah.
Awesome, You must have to Pinch Yourself now an then.
Is it really Kellys or just got His name on it?
Great Show.
Something you need to consider surfing fresh water wave pool is the buoyancy difference between fresh water and salt water. I've surfed Typhoon Lagoon twice and its fresh water of course and there was a lot of drag. You need a board that will float mo betta. 🤙😷🇺🇲
So great ! My buddy rips on a old NP board ?
Any idea why the large fins did feel stiff? Due to higher speeds, water moving around them faster?
Very interesting episode, stoked you got to ride the ranch man!
Felix Lux Fin depth and wide base of a large fin offers a bit more hold and they can make a board feel tight and slow to turn. I believe the fin depth was much struggle.
I am your first veiwer
Hey Noel, who's the track by mate? ANOTHER great episode - amazing content!
Nick Scott Stoked you liked it!! I always put the song name and band when the song begins. The song is called “A Family Like Mine” by @ronartisii check Ron out on Instagram... incredible musician and tunes. Cheers
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks! Keep the great stuff flowing, may keep us sane during lock downs!!
Hey Noel. I have a question why are you surfing with such small boards, shouldnt you go with the driver 2.0 at least in a 5 10? Not even the pros are using those dimensions. Medina i think he is 5 10 and uses a 5 11. Your boards look crazy nervios and i think its due to the size. I love your surfing, amazing surfer! Cheers
gero78 I got a Stock 5’9” Driver 2.0 to. I like my boards ultra responsive... I guess it’s a preference
You are comparing height to board length. The equation is weight/volume. If you run the numbers, you'll see that Medina's board is very close to what Noel likes to ride, around 6.2. Some pros like to go even higher up to 6.6 or lower to 5.9.
Is a L In a board a big difference, idk if wether to get a 6’1 34.6L one or a 6’2 36.1 L, I weigh 185
Jesus Obeso If your advanced surfer is say 30-31 liters, intermediate 32-33 liters you can go 6’1 at 34.5 L but it might be a tad sluggish.
Can you do a test on wax less traction products? Like the Rspro hexatraction, and vanderwaals?
Can you review / test out the YVUVY leash plug system please ?
You should review the rocket redux!
Any chance posting a review on the Seaside and Beyond in the near / far future? Thanx!
Reepo MAN Not sure... I have never surfed a mid length before so not sure I’m the right guy for the review.
noel how long have you been surfing for? did you used to do nssa or scholastic surf series as a kid?
bryan kaleta I’ve been surfing for 37 years. I surfed 1-2 years NSSA then surfed the Bud Tour then WQS in the 90’s.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 that's sick dawg
Sweet! One big tax write off. Maybe I missed it, did you have to add a few liters to account for the freshwater?
Connor Pearson No increase I volume and all the boards felt good... just the Large fins gave me trouble
Hey Noel how would the fish beard work in Spinetek thinking of getting one in a couple weeks first new board purchase rather than used would be great to hear your input!
Noah Stone Excellent for 1-5’ surf
Surf n Show Reviews awesome and Ik I’ll have to wait for the review but how comparable to the swordfish
Noah Stone Completely different boards... But made for similar wave size. NB2 is more performance in the pocket
Noel, what is your red car in this video? It seems to be very good to be able to load a lot of boards with a compact size.
Sachihiko Ueno Chevy Volt... Electri/ Hybrid combo. Excellent car and it fits a ton of boards etc. Roughly 45 miles all electric then goes into Hybrid mode. I fill up 1x every two weeks or so.
Chevrolet Volt!
Looks like for this wave you'd do well with a bit smaller Fishbeard.
How would you make a custom board? With shape, fins and everything it comes with.
Tim Gerdes Sorry, I don’t understand your question?
95 % surfer
Hello, what are dimensions for your Fishbeard in this episode please? Could imagine surfing it with more lenght ? Thanks
Are you going to do a specific review on the lost driver 2.0?
Jake Stolte Yes
I notice you ride your boards a few inches shorter than your height. Any strategy for doing so? I put my dimensions in the board calculator and it always recommends to stay at my own height and sometimes an inch or two bigger. Just trying to understand why this is. Thanks bro! 🤙
FlipSide Fishin I like a shorter board in smaller waves... they fit better in a small pocket. If I surfed bigger more powerful waves I would ride 5’9” HPSB’s. That’s longest board I will ride most of the time. Shorter boards are more responsive
Surf n Show Reviews Thanks man! Makes a ton of sense. 🤙✌️
$10,000/hour folks
So what?
