- Join me in Vienna, Austria for a tour of the Zentralfriedhof where we'll pay out respects to some of the most influencial composors to ever live. We'll stop by Strauss, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and Mozart (if we can find him), as well as some of the most bizzare headstones you'll ever see including a fat cat in a suit with a crown on his head....I kid you not.
00:00 Intro
13:19 Beethoven & Composers
18:34 The Cat King
#beethoven #mozart #celebrity - Krátké a kreslené filmy
I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A WELL MAINTAINED CEMETERY AS THIS ONE. ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW! THANKS FOR SHARING....😊 YOU ARE RIGHT JUST STUNNING!
I think it's as posh as it gets Cynthia, not sure how they let me in lol. Thank you x
eh
Friedrich von Amerling (14 April 1803 - 14 January 1887) was an Austro-Hungarian portrait painter in the court of Franz Josef. He was born in Vienna and was court painter between 1835 and 1880. With Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, he is one of the outstanding Austrian portrait painters of the 19th century.
I just started watching your videos and enjoy them. The only advice I'd offer is to slow a moment so we can kinda see them too. People won't get upset if you're there. In the victorian times when cemeteries were created, it was very normal for people to picnic in them. In the end cemeteries are more for the living than the dead. It's where we remember them.
Thanks Victoria. It's a bit tricky to keep everyone happy, some people just want to walk and others want to read. I'm working on it, but in the meantime you can slow the video down or pause it.
@@deadgoodwalks I always seem to forget there's a pause button lol. Thank you for responding and awesome walks
That Cemetary is absolutely stunning.
The scale and the impressive monuments there are so interesting.
Also, it is maintained so well .
I'm still on a high from it Ian, Can't believe how amazing it was
very idyllic
Love this tour! I live about 100 kilometers away and was never there. Its on my to-do list. Manfred Deix was an absolut catlover, he lived together with about a hundred cats. Great tour! Greetings from Austria Michi
Go for it, it's amazing. I wish I lived that close x
I stumbled across your channel by accident today and I've been hooked ever since....Your videos are brilliant, informative and the way you carry yourself is very respectful...I subbed - keep up the great work :)
Thank you Sam x
What magnificent monuments ! It must be so amazing to see in person. Thank you for another great video.
Really loved this tour. The designs on some of the graves. Beethoven, my favorite classical composer to see his grave. Thanks so much for this video.
I went there especially for Falco (Austrian singer). This cemetery is just gorgeous (even the 'unknown' graves).
Its amazing isn't it and the scale is just unreal. Glad you got to see Falco
Absolutely beautiful! thank you for taking us on your journey :) I've been to Vienna two times but never went to visit a cemetery. I'll definitely do that the next time I get there. So well maintained and so peaceful. Again, thank you for sharing this 💚
@ 17.05 Johann Andreas Streicher was a German pianist, composer and piano maker. In 1793, he married Nannette Streicher, another piano maker and daughter of Augsburg piano maker Johann Andreas Stein. In 1794, they moved to Vienna. From that time, Streicher worked as a piano teacher and became increasingly known for his compositions. The Streicher piano-making business provided at least one fortepiano to Beethoven in his early years, of which the composer was fond, writing that it was "too good for me ... because it robs me of the freedom to produce my own tone".
What an awesome place. I’ve never seen anything like it! Beautiful and well kept. Great tour!
Thank you
The grave behind the Cat and next to the pink sausage at 18:59 that is composed of metal rods is Hedy Lamar. Famous Hollywood actress and as some claim, the inventor of bluetooth.
I love the quotes of Beethoven especially one of them, He said music is like a dream. One that I cannot hear. In other words he made very good excellent music but he himself could not hear the music that he wrote to know if it was good or not. But his music was good. I like that quote.
Then, let every man do that which is right, strive with all his might towards the goal which can never be obtained, develop to the last breath the gifts with which the gracious Creator has endowed him, and never cease to learn. For life is short, art eternal.
I wish you music to help with the burdens of life, and to help you release your happiness to others.
Dan, what a beautiful Cemetery. It is really well maintained and I'm very impressed how beautiful the statues and the architecture of them are. Sorry was so hot for you but thank you so much for dealing with it to show this wonderful Cemetery. Thanks for the tour again.
Amazing place thank you 👍
What a gorgeous grave yard, so well maintained and cared for ! Looks amazing !
Mozart was buried in a mass grave at an unknown location, so he's not buried in that cemetery. Beautiful place thank you for the video.
I read Oliver Pötzsch's ' The Grave digger, a case for Leopold von Herzfeldt ' late 19th century, and I'm reading now ' The girl and the grave digger ' based on the real life of this grave digger who was a very intelligent guy, works at this Vienna central Friedhof. His Friedhof was not quite like this yet I guess. Thank you so much. I've been to Austria a number of times but never there!Amazing place. God Bless. 🙏
Wow, this one is amazing, atleast i saw the graves of some famous figures like Beethoven, Mozart and Strauss, etc... Love it... thank u so much DGW. More power to your channel
Glad I could show you round the place Laarnie
@@deadgoodwalks yes thank you, lucky I found your channel on FB then CZcams, i watch every nite before i doze off. ☺️
Absolutely beautiful. So well maintained. This would be such a fantastic walk.
Stunning Cemetery. Beautiful monuments. Well manicured - probably the best i have seen. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! What a tour of a place I know I would never be able to see in person! Loved it! BRAVO! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Absolutely amazing!! I've been to many cemeteries but none as amazing as this. Thanks for sharing this. I really admire the respect given to the residents and those who are burying their loved ones at the time of the making of the blog. Unfortunately, some blogs are disrespectful and uncaring.
Probably the best cemetery I've seen so far.
I'm with you on that one Richie
From the minute you stepped in the beauty of this place just astounds me!
Zentralfriedhof is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world, and when it comes to US, i believe that iconic Green-Wood cemetery in Brooklyn/NYC is the wettest dream of a taphophile with its massive 478 acres with more than half a million permanent residents😅Green-Wood has its own historian and they offer guided trolley tours, and if you are lucky, you can even visit the catacombs as well as interior of the mausoleums!💞
Found you on tiktok, I would love to do all this but haven't got the capacity... so thank you for sharing
** the pink grave is that of Franz West, who was known for eccentric squiggle sculptures 😁
Welcome to cemetery club Sophie! Start small and get yourself out there, if you love it go for it
@@deadgoodwalks I will definitely try, I really want to go to Highgate!
@@LawNerdSoph Its a must!
Thank you so much , this was absolutely stunning. 😊🏴
11:25 - Michael Thonet (2 July 1796 - 3 March 1871) was a German-Austrian cabinet maker, known for the invention of bentwood furniture.
Carl Friedrich Christian Mohs (German: [moːs]; 29 January 1773 - 29 September 1839) was a German chemist and mineralogist. He was the creator of the Mohs scale of mineral hardness.[1] Mohs also introduced a classification of the crystal forms in crystal systems independently of Christian Samuel Weiss.

The graves here are stunning.
17:32 - Inge Konradi (27 July 1924 - 4 February 2002) was an Austrian stage and film actress.
17:06 - Johann Baptist Streicher (3 January 1796 in Vienna - 28 March 1871 in Vienna) was an Austrian piano maker that comes from a dynasty piano builders.
Wow what a beautiful cemetery! Thanks for taking us along on this beautiful walk 😊
Hello again.. i have been here myself.. its so lovely and a massive music lover this was so nice to see.
I love the tour of the old cemetaries. Thank you for filming them. ❤🧡💚💜🤎🤍
Beethoven’s grave is awesome it’s actually my first time seeing it. The only famous gave I visited was actor Dudley Moore. He’s buried not to far from me.
Me too Brian, it was a bit surreal to see as he seems like a bit of a fictional character
Amazing video, & well done.
@16.58 Franz von Suppé was an Austrian composer of light operas and other theatre music. He came from the Kingdom of Dalmatia, Austro-Hungarian Empire (now part of Croatia). A composer and conductor of the Romantic period, he is notable for his four dozen operettas
Wow Dan. What a fabulous place. Beautiful. Stunning. The detail on that giant monument with the curtains. You could see the fringes and the tassels of the curtains. The hours of work that went into it. So much money must have been spent on these moments. At the end of the day they are all just bones like the poorer people.
Thanks for your efforts. You have helped me pass the time during my recovery. Your low key approach is very calming. Many Thanks
I love walking threw the cemetery with you seen these beautiful stones ,thank you.they wee all so beautiful
just love these grand cemeteries.. spectacular
Enjoyed watching....
Thanks for the video
Hey from Jackson, MS in USA. I'm disabled and don't get out much so you guys that walk these peaceful places help me feel like I've been out for a walk. Thanks.
Mozart's grave is actually just a monument to his memory.. the actual grave's position is still unknown as far as I remember (but it is believed to be within the cemetery's area)
Correct. Mozart died poor, and was buried in a communal pit. They still don't know which exact pit.
Mozart was buried in a common grave at St. Marx cemetery and his remains were never found later.
Thank you so much, I am so excited to have found you!❤
Nice to have you here Ellen. Thank you
The artistry of these monuments is astounding. I’ve never seen so many breathtaking memorials. Even the plinths with the huge rings are stunning. So well kept. Neat as a pin.
Beautiful place.
Wow! Breath taking
Hopefully I will get to visit Vienna before I end up in my own grave. :)
Just beautiful. Thanks for showing a newer nicer one. To bad 😞 the other ones. But we must have respect for the older ones. 🤗
Beautiful Cemetery!! Amazing Monuments.
Enjoyed that, loved the cat!
that pink curly one has me completely flummoxed ,, googled pink headstones vienna and didn't find a thing about it... then saw the comment below ..
Me too and I didn't want to read it because the couple on the bench were too close, I don't know why that put me off lol
Eduard Von Haas at 4:25 is of the PEZ candy fame.
The Monument of Beethoven is in fact just a replica of his grave on the Wahringer East Cemetery...so that's what written on the Stone...Greetings from Germany, nice channel!
My reaction to 10:54 was HOLY SMOKES!!!!
This place is a work of Art.. Really good work Dan.. What a beautiful cemetery.. I shall see it one day.. Maybe next year
Kaz 🌻... It looks boiling hot there!
Gorgeous cemetery🪦💜
A very different and unusual, also beautiful cemetery. 🙏🕊❤️
Thank you sir AMAZING video 101🙏🏼👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you
Magnificent.... I have been to Vienna may times, a beautiful city and that place is now on my list f places to visit.
Got curious about the bunny with the child in his lap at the end. Seems to be a street art project, not an actual grave. Like the inscription says, the artist remains unknown. The cemetery administration had no idea either and no one really gave their consent for this little sculpture, but it seems no one is really bothered by it either, so I guess that's why it's still there. After all it sits on "private property" (i.e. the space in between the monuments belongs to their respective grave owners). Very interesting indeed!
29:50 - Adolf Freiherr von Jorkasch-Koch (* 3rd. October 1848 in Lviv, Galicia; † 22. April 1909 in Vienna) was an Austrian administrative officer, politician and twice short-term finance minister Cisleithaniens, the Austrian half of the empire Austria-Hungary.
Wow Franz Schuber is one of my most favorite composers Thank you so much for sharing this video. Geeked me out big time. awesome 100 percent Awesome
No problem Howard, glad you liked it
I did a double-take @7:06 - that is indeed the Friederich Mohs of the Mohs scale for classifying minerals. Cool!
Hello from the US- Alabama, new sub here. Your channel came across my yt feed. Love your content. Been binge watching your videos. Im a fan of cemetery walk through.
The weathered look of the Statues is called 'patina'.
Love The Composers Corner!! Fantastic Monuments BEETHOVENS Monument For Pete's Sake!!
Me too, it was amazing to be amongst the greats
Amazing!
Totally 👍 Agree!!
A beautiful place
Really enjoyed this video ,, I was going over to find a grave and to translate to see what they had to say in German.. that Manfred Deix is an interesting fellow ,,, what an amazing cemetery ,,
He is indeed, even in death
So beautiful 🌹 graveyard
Very intriguing cemetery
Glad you enjoyed it Ronald
Magnificent, they sure go all out don’t they. It’s really great that you have been able to travel so far, and bring us along. I see you found your real sense of humor for us 🙂. Your wife is a lucky lady. I can’t believe the amazing statues they all have, breathtaking really. Such a beautiful place loved it 😍
Very blessed that I can travel to these places and that she comes with me and lets me drag her around lol. I try to be funny but I'm probably not haha x
@@deadgoodwalks you said the statue had its hand on another’s bum 😂. Not to mention the pink sausage
It was a very eventful day 🤣
My favourite walk. A beautiful and well kept cemetery. Definitely on my I want to see list, as is Staglieno Cemetery in Genoa, Italy, have you heard of this cemetery Dan?
Good afternoon watching from Guyana i grew up listing to Beethoven 🇬🇾🇬🇾
there is a white museum there that in the 19th century the dead were placed on and someone kept watch for three days to make sure it was really dead before buried. Because most people in 19 century Europe were afraid of being buried alive.
Dumba was a industrialist that supported the arts and music. The snake biting his tail is the Ouroboros is the same as infinity, or the never ending circle.
Waoo is amazing⚰✝👑🙏👏👏
This is one of the grandest collection of absolutely magnificent cemetery art!
The Victorians had such an affinity with the remembrance of the dead.
1:58 is August Zang. died mar. 4, 1888 age 80. Founder of the Viennese daily: Die Presse. He was an artillery officer before he went to Paris to found the "Boulangerie Viennese". He is credited for the Viennese's steam oven.
Thank you very much for the information Wendy x
Thank you very much for the information Wendy! But... what the dwarves have to do with an artillery officer? 😅
@@XaviClot August Zang was an unusual man. He was an officer in the Imperial & Royal Army of Austria, introduced the noble population of Paris to the Viennese art of baking (the shape of the croissant comes from Vienna), founded one of the most important newspapers in Austria and was also a mine owner. The dwarves on his grave allude to the mining business.
@@kurteibensteiner2736 thank you for the info. I love this kind of histories!
There is a lot to be said of the Old World stone masons , Wonderful exhibit of great art .
very beautiful place. rip to all
Johann Nepomuk Prix. Mayor of Vienna. In office 1889-1894. 9:13

Love your videos! Did you visit the imperial crypt in vienna? Greetings from Austria;)
Thanks Drea, I did indeed, and what a place it is. (Videos on the channel). You're very lucky to live there!
@@deadgoodwalks found it 🙂 new sub ☺️
Stunning! There aren't any Graveyards this ornate in the US. Savannah, GA has some awesome and old cemeteries. New Orleans, LA as well.
Green-Wood in NYC, also a national historic landmark is among the most beautiful ones in US, along with Woodlawn cemetery in Bronx💗
What i dislike about US cemeteries is the regulation which requires crypts to be covered by granite slabs, even in the case of private family mausoleums🥺It's a such dull sight to see those all those identical slabs when you peek inside a mausoleum, because it prevents one from seeing those beautiful coffins and caskets of 19th century which are no longer in use ⚰
Gebrüder Thonet were particularly known for their manufacture of bentwood furniture, for which they had developed the first industrial-scale production processes. The company was founded by Michael Thonet in Vienna
My list (not in any particular order) Monumental cemetery of Staglieno, Genova/Italy❣ Johannisfriedhof, Dresden ; awarded as the most beautiful cemetery in Germany❣ Bellu Cemetery, Bucharest/Romania❣Lychakiv Cemetery, Lviv/ Ukraine❣Green-Wood Cemetery, NYC/US❣Verano Cemetery, Rome/Italy❣
I Loke this here's beautiful cemetry the tone colours of light so i like a here cemetry than see long now.ok my comen from Ina Malaysia people.thank your chanel video cemerty.
@ 15.47 Nikolaus Dumba 24 July 1830, Vienna - 23 March 1900, was an Austrian industrialist and liberal politician. He is considered to have been an important patron of the arts and music and a benefactor of Greece
Ow, Straus, Brames, Betoveen❤
I have seen a photo of the Unknown Artist 2010 one before, but the rabbit part was chrome coloured - I wonder if it is actually 'just' some art that changes?
In the section are not onky composers, all famous ones are there- my gran-grand- grand father is there too. Hope you visit the museum at the cemertary, its interesting! If yiu use the smaller entry on the right side you will find lot of beautiful mousoleums. I lived in St. Marx, if you want to visit Vienna again i can show you other cemetarys wich are not that famous but with wonderful historical graveyards too! I'm only one hour from Vienna, so if you need a person showing you lot more, just call me👍
I think, people in Austria have a special connection to their dead relatives. There is a sentence in the Austrian society. "A scheene Leich", which means a well tended to, good preserved body that seems to sleep, many flowers and candles and so on. And nobody wants to be ashamed when not taking good care of the graves.
Wow, this cemetery must full of rich ghosts!😋😋
In Austria, the cemeteries are looked after a bit more than in the 🇬🇧.
The Central Cemetery is not far away from my home.
I love 🏴 but London is too loud.
Greetings from Vienna.
