**RECIPE, MAKES 8-10 SANDWICHES**
1 stick (4 oz, 113g) butter, fully melted
1 cup (200g) brown sugar (or white sugar + a glug of molasses)
1 egg
1 teaspoon (4g) baking powder
salt (I use a heaped teaspoon of my kosher salt, which is about 6g)
vanilla (I just eyeball it, but I like a lot, and used a couple teaspoons)
6 oz (170g) chocolate chips (half a standard bag, I use a mix of white and dark chocolate)
1 1/4 cup (150g) all purpose flour
2 pints (1 liter) ice cream (I like to use a pint of chocolate and pint of vanilla)
Get your oven heating to 375ºF/190ºC.
Beat the melted butter, sugar, egg and vanilla until smooth. Put in the salt, baking powder and flour and beat until smooth - it should seem wetter and stickier than a normal cookie dough. Chop up your chocolate chips a bit before mixing them in.
Cover a baking sheet parchment paper, with excess hanging out that you can use as a sling. Spread the cookie dough onto the parchment in the thinnest, widest possible layer, trying to get as close to a square or rectangle as you can.
Bake until just barely done - it only took mine 5 minutes. Use the parchment paper to lift the cookie sheet out of the pan while it's still soft and pliable. Let it cool thoroughly.
Pull the ice cream out of the freezer to let it soften a bit. Cut the cookie sheet in half, and slide the side of your knife underneath to release the sheets from the parchment paper. Use scissors to cut the paper in half so that each sheet is on its own piece of paper.
Scoop the ice cream out onto one of the cookie sheets - if using two different flavors, alternate scoops of each to get a marbled effect. Pick up the other cookie sheet and turn it upside down on your hand. Take the paper off, and flip it top-side-up onto the ice cream. Gently press down on the top sheet until the ice cream squishes into a uniform, solid layer.
Freeze the giant sandwich solid before trimming and cutting into individual sandwiches. - Jak na to + styl
Blur the Pyrex: everyone notices. Leave it unblurred: no one notices.

Could be Adam too. Shows often censor or replace brands not because the sponsors told them, but to get future sponsors. Basically an 'I won't advertise your brand unless you pay me for it.'

What are you trying to tell us, Adam?
" personally i don’t hesitate to lay so great a sacrifice for the alter of aesthetics "
Mood
Adam, perhaps you could do a vid on how toothpastes achieve their "desensitizing" effect. It is sensory science after all. No shade on Sensodyne (I have used it), just curious.
i think that's a bit out of his field
What I want to know is why it SENSITIZES my teeth. It went from nothing to agony. Then I forgot about and it happened AGAIN. So it was not fluke.
It IS my field, so here ya go.
Pain is conducted by nerves, which, in turn use ions to carry the pain signal. Ions are the parts of dissolved salts. (such as sodium and chloride ions in table salt)
It turns out that the potassium in the active ingredient, potassium nitrate, is the perfect size and charge to strongly disrupt the pain signal from teeth. The term used is “depolarized”.
Anyhow, the potassium slowly works it’s way into your teeth, to the pulp, where all the nerves are, and voila. Except that the process isn’t fast, and can take a week or two for full effect (if you just brush your teeth).
Fun, fast fact: if you have custom teeth whitening trays, you can put sensodyne, or any other sensitivity toothpaste, into the trays. Wear them for 10-15 minutes, rinse, and you should have the same effect, just much faster. If there’s still discomfort, try it again the next day, and you should have max effect. If you still have pain, you probably have cracked tooth enamel, and the potassium nitrate (KNO3)probably won’t ever work without some dentist supplied work.
@@jmacd8817 Thanks for the explanation! It seems that the ion migration through the enamel seems a little tough, but having an ingress from the gum line might be more direct. Is there any credence to this supposition or is the enamel that permeable? (I did take, and like, organic chem in university 40 years ago and have biology and physics degrees from a Big Ten school--Adam's alma mater.)
@@jmacd8817 I had suspected it was something like that, because while I always had sensitive teeth, parts that got chipped off are still sensitive even after using that toothpaste (not because of this video, I’ve been using it probably 20 years now). While the rest do get fairly well desensitised.

Love to see it, promoting a product, but we can clearly see your discomfort when you take a bite out of that Ice Cream Sandwich
But at least now the pleasure outweighs the pain 😆
I’ve been brushing with their stuff for like 20 years, it really takes 2 or 3 or even 4 weeks to work. Inferring from the voiceover, it sounds like he’s only used it for 3-5 days. So at that stage it’ll be lessened rather than almost totally gone (but it’s never 100%, it’s like, 80-90% reduction - which in pain relief is huge, normally in pain relief even a 30% reduction is considered good)
2:05 i expected him to say "nnnNO!" and start boiling it i laughed so hard

I think this is the only time in the entire history of humanity that anyone has advertised toothpaste and shown someone actually using the toothpaste.
5:10 had me laughing out of control.
This is the reason why I season my throat.
Well i wanted to do the sandwiches but now i am just eating warm cookiedough. I am loving this!
I use to make these this way kind of at an ice cream kitchen except when it came out soft from the machine we would spread it evenly by offset spatula set the top cookie sheet refreeze. Once solid cut with one of those large blades with a handle on each side after using this acordian like pizza cutter thing to score it evenly. Then individually wrapped .
I've had sensitive teeth as long as I could remember. I've adapted to drinking ice-cold water differently as a result, where I kinda stretch my top lip over my top front teeth and then place the tip of glass to the skin right above my top lip (while me lip is stretched over my teeth). Sounds a bit strange writing it out, and perhaps looks slightly odd, but it helps immensely when drinking very cold beverages. Does anyone else do this?

Intimidation from big pyrex

Thank you for sharing! It looks delicious.
Adam: *makes ice cream sandwiches that erode your teeth*
Also Adam: *gets sponsored by toothpaste company*
Erodes your teeth, then unerode them
Him and Babish are in on it, making those Sensodyne millions
The point is to brush off any sugar before it erodes your teeth. Sugar touching your teeth doesn’t instantly dissolve them or anything, it’s prolonged contact as the sugar partially dissolves with your saliva. We evolved a mechanism where the teeth can directly absorb minerals from our saliva to rebuild their surface to some degree, but that can also lead to bad outcomes with things like sugar. The time between brushing matters a lot. In some countries they brush immediately after every meal or sometimes even snack, albeit not necessarily with toothpaste every time.
Hey the guy who was asking for it finally got his wish :)
You did very well with that toothpaste placement, nice job Adam. Love your videos
I combined this with the faux ice cream I learned from babish (sweetened condensed milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract) and it was amazing
I love the idea of Sensodyne! I would have been using them since *years* ago… except that they, like most of the dental care industry, assume that literally every human on Earth likes mint. There are a surprising number of us who canʼt stand the stuff, and I would rather *bite into an ice cream sandwich with sensitive teeth* than have mint toothpaste.
*WHY* tho? Mint is refreshing and almost tasteless and is not something nasty
@@drnkbh6754 I believe that I’m extra sensitive to menthol (the part that makes mint feel cold). Think of the strongest mint you’ve had, and imagine shoving a whole handful into your mouth at once. At some point it becomes more of a burning sensation than a cold sensation, and that’s what I have all the time even with the mildest mint I’ve had.
@@danielrhouck Oh, well in that case I don't blame you at all
@@danielrhouck For whatever it's worth, I have the same mint experience! Luckily I'm not temperature sensitive, so I mostly use "kids" versions that still have enough fluoride. Are cough drops problematic for you too? Anyway, here's some anecdotal validation - you're not the only one 💚

As someone with sensitive teeth, there is no better place to advertise your toothpaste to aid that than in a ice cream sandwich recipe video.
Making this with one of your homemade ice cream recipes seems like a fun activity to do!
I used to have temperature sensitive teeth as well, my entire life. Tried a dozen different toothpastes but nothing worked. Then my dentist told me I wasn't brushing my teeth correctly, and the moment I started doing that, the pain went away and never came back. It's not the toothpaste taking away the pain, it's your method of brushing.
Every person is different and what works for one person might not work for another.
Though it is a good thing to have people consider another possible reason/solution for sensitive teeth.
So what did you actually do differently?
@@kaitlyn__L all my life I have been brushing purely my teeth, but my dentist told me that you need to be brushing the border between teeth and gums as that's where most of the bad stuff is. She told me to hold my brush at an upwards angle towards the gums and try to feel each individual tooth with the brush
why i change my brushing method and not my toothpaste
@@Nanokarp sorry for the delay, but, ah okay, that is more or less what I’ve been doing my entire life. In fact so much so, I occasionally got in trouble for brushing my gums too much. I still have sensitive teeth tho ^^

FYI to everyone mad about a very obviously and overtly sponsored video. Adam has literally talked several times about how he does videos like this every once in a while, outside of his regular upload schedule, as far back as "what the raguseas really eat" or whatever it's called. I doubt that they have much effect on his standard format and schedule other than providing him with the extra income to probably feel better about keeping those relatively non-shilly as far as youtubers go.
I for one am happy to get an extra video, and don't mind being reminded that pyrex exists every once in a while. And especially if making a video like this one here and there provides him and his family with extra flexibility and stability needed to keep his monday thursday videos as good as they continue to be, I say carry on.
