- This video lists 10 things I have learned using a 2022 JA58 Honda Super Cub in less than perfect weather. There are good and bad aspects to the bike and hopefully it is useful if you are considering buying a new 2023 model or are searching for a used JA58 Honda Super Cub C125.

I've owned big bikes and small ones, and I can tell you that a long journey on a small bike feels 100 times more epic than the same journey on a big bike.
I agree. Used to have a Honda Blackbird and doing 200mi used to feel nothing.
200mi on a super cub feels like you've properly achieved something.
Thanks for the review. Average speed of 45 mph will get you around the world in less than 70 days, 8 hours per day. And I reckon the supercub would manage it easily. I love mine 👍🇦🇺
I like mine too and wonder if a CT125 would be the better bike for a round the world jaunt. Weather has been foul here so haven't used it much in the last week. Can't wait for summer.
"You will get cold if you ride this in winter." I can't believe Honda has allowed a motorcycle to be released to the public where this could happen. FW.
There's probably a sticker on the frame somewhere. Preserve life. Avoid hypothermia. Drink coffee, stamp feet, eat pasties, apply Anusol.

Hey Fred. Happy new year. Love the sweater. First time to the to the channel. Dude I can't believe you did that long distance trip on the Super Cub. Hats off to you for that Journey. I found myself grabbing a 2021 last spring and had the most fun over the summer and fall that I ever thought possible. I stored it in November with a thousand miles on it . 3 months earlier I took possession of a 22 C8 Corvette it took 15 months to get it. But I will say at the end of the day I get more love on that Super Cub and more and smiles than the Corvette.
Very happy you've found the channel. I bet a C8 corvette is a beast of a car but you hit the nail on the head...the C125 is a very approachable and happy machine; totally non-threatening.
I think the joy in doing anything with the cub is that it is just enough machine to do nearly anything.

Good critique! I bought mine in July, live in Italy and it is the only one in the province if not the region. It always attracts attention. At one stop a Ducati Multistrada parked next to me and the rider was full of questions about MY bike! I live in the mountains so cold is a constant for 6 months, dress for it...still get cold. The Honda superCub 125 is a great little bike, I love it it's good on rough tracks (not mud) and I use it most days but with snow and ice, NO!
Pleased to hear you are enjoying the rarity of your bike. I definitely think the suspension on the C125 is very good compared to a C90, even a freshly rebuilt C90.
As for the cold. I think you are right...I am not about to spend £1000s on heated kit.

I just passed on one here in the US. The blood sucker dealerships over here have us by the knickers jacking up the price because of the extremely limited availability. I’ve decided I’ll be patient and wait for a low mileage second hand one.

I picked up a used 2021 C125 in November, 2022, for $3,000 US here in central North Carolina, USA. It had 250 miles on it, hardly ridden by the original owner. I found it in a local Facebook Marketplace listing - by accident. I couldn't resist, and I am very happy with it for riding on the local roads here, but wouldn't want to take it on the Interstates (I-85, I -40) - it wouldn't compete with the crazy car drivers.
@@eugenesaltz8327 glad your impulse buy brought you some joy. I've tested mine on the motorway (British equivalent to interstate) and it can just about hang with modern traffic but that isn't to say it is pleasurable...
Mine was 2nd hand with 199mi on from a really nice man near Grantham.
Man, you ain't kidding. I tracked down a 2022 model (wanted that specific color) after a month of searching online on and off, new from a dealer (in the US, btw), for $3100 in February. Not even two months after, I checked the same dealer and the price jumped $1000. Our own local dealer raised their prices on the 2023 models by $1200. They really got me with all the taxes and fees, but man am I glad I didn't sit on it.
Superb bike very interesting review, always liked them , ive got a Dax 125 with the similar power unit , yet to ride it though ,i agree, its classic in the making and rightly so .
Only time will tell and if it is fun finding out there are worse ways to burn time...
I'm old and poor enough to remember when Honda Cubs were the nearest thing to universal transport. Signal boxes usually had one outside. Handy types built varnished plywood top boxes and made screens from cloudy Perspex. Young ladies visited their ponies on a C50. I worked at a factory where the shop floor arrived on C90s and someone would service your bike in the lunch hour for a tenner. For a while I did a 250 mile weekly commute on one. The new version looks a bit meta, a riff on Cubs for a western world that no longer needs them. Which explains the price to those who still want one. For the same price you could buy a Royal Enfield 350 Hunter and, if you were prepared to ride at Cub speeds, achieve huge mpg.

Nice review,had mine 3 months after a long wait,1200 miles the engine has loosened up and got faster.
Around town brilliant compared to my 1250cc bike.
My only gripe is it's top speed ,60 is hard to maintain, hills are its downfall. 45mph is its Happy area and could ride all day at 45 to 50. Dual carriageways are hard work ,if only it was a bit more powerful, be perfect as all rounder.
Fuel ,well its brilliant, 20 miles is 250ml
55 mile 1.5 ltr,no complaints.
Overall brilliant commuting bike .
They do say top speed is 65,bit optimistic really, although I did see 70 mph few days ago,slightly downhill slope and wind behind.
50 to 55 mph is attained with full throttle runs flat roads.
It most definitely isn't fast but that is ok. I love the thing for round town jaunts; it makes me happy using it unlike anything else. Top box makes it hugely useful too.

If you can afford one or save towards one, I don't think you'll regret it. Best thing is, even if you do, the whole exercise should be cost-neutral or a small loss.

I have just bought one (delivery next week on my Birthday), I have owned a few when I was a kid (c90) loved them! I currently own; Vespa Douglas 200cc, Vespa 300GTS and a Piaggio Liberty for commuting! The Liberty is making way for the Supercub and I cannot wait to ride it!
I've never tried Italian scooters. I've got it in my head that they are fast... The chaps down the local MOT place swear by the Burgman maxi-scooter.

@@EpohDerf Italian Scooters are fast and great fun and the Burgman is also fast but ugly" However, the Supercub is beautiful and reliable, perfect for cheap commuting! I will possibly going on Supercub meets too, just like the Vespa meets I go on! I enjoy anything with a cult following!

My 1990's C90 does 50mph and the stock long seat is perfect for long days, day after day, because you can change your riding position and not get stuck in one place. Rode mine from Suffolk to Malta, up Vesuvius and Etna, usually 100mpg. I do like the idea of your 4 gears but I prefer the comfort and simplicity of the C90.
Stick a long seat on that with wider leg guards and a booster tank and I'd have a go!
I like my C90 a great deal, too. Sounds like you've had an amazing time with yours - have you had it long? What time if year did you do Suffolk to Malta and how long did it take?
I've, also, got a C125 Super Cub.( 2020 Blue ) I get around 160 - 180 mpg ( about 125 miles before filling up ) obviously not ragging it everywhere, but keeping up with traffic most of the time. I do plan my routes to avoid faster roads.
I've fitted Oxford heated grips on mine to avoid the 'ice fingers' Seem to work OK. On the FaceBook owners club, several people didn't think they would work well enough, or they would flatten the small battery, but I've had no battery problems before or after fitting them.

Hi Fred, had mine 3 Months. Completely agree with all your points. One extra bit on information. I use mine 2 up 50% of the time and am amazed how well it performs. Remarkably roomy seat for the size of bike, makes this workable. Acceleration is obviously slower and hills are the challenge, but will still hold well above 50 on the flat. We are no small couple either. Ashamed to say, when I sit down and do the numbers, it has North of 30 stone on it two up (slightly over the approved limit!!!) and the suspension copes OK. As you say, never fails to make you smile, and anyone you meet along the way.
Being honda built they are made to take a kicking. I think the lost succinct way to describe it is 'just enough bike to have fun'...
Great review Fred and I agree with all you observations. Mine is identical and is coming up to 4000 miles. I love the gear change, which was a gradual process in becoming completely comfortable/natural with it. I have noticed the seat feels far more comfortable, not sure if It has softened up or I've become acclimatised to it. I adjusted the valves at 2,900 miles and it runs really smooth. The adjustment was slightly out although still within spec. The exhaust valve was tight. I've checked clutch adjustment twice, and only slight adjustment needed. One other observation, I always use v power E5, fuel consumption 140 to 200, (yes 200 mpg.). My rear tyre is still legal and expect it to make around 5k, ridden on 'VERY' hilly abrasive welsh mountain roads mostly, I'm lucky. I always carry 1.5 ltr fuel bottle so comfortable 180 to 200 mile range.Take care best wishes for the new year.

@@EpohDerf Hi Fred, The supplying dealer kindly sent me a screenshot from their service manual for valve spec of the 22 grey Supercub. It only states in metric as follows. Intake .08mm +/- 02, exhaust .20mm +/- .02 In old currency i worked that to 3.2 thou inlet and 8 thou exhaust. One thing I forgot to mention , the air filter drain bulb requires emptying quit often when riding on roads with lots of surface water, might be worth keeping an eye on it if you were not aware. Hope that helps.

@@EpohDerf I use an expandable tale bag, it looks really neat on the rear seat. I also fitted side pannier racks and carry a small loop lock so I can quickly lock crash helmet to the bike. Only other additions are a Puig traffic tinted screen, that looks and functions great, mirror extenders, a must IMV and an optimate connection lead, although I've never had trouble with battery.
Hi Fred. I think your comments are fair. Mine has done a similar mileage to yours from new. The seat could be made better with some gel inserts possibly, but I suppose Honda didn't have long distance in mind. The finish and build quality is very good indeed. Always cleans up well even with winter salt. I'm slightly confused by the use of a drum brake on the rear. Surely a disc would have been possible? Maybe it was a nod to the C90? Merry Christmas.
Very happy to be told otherwise but I think the C125 uses the same rear brake shoes as a C90, making worldwide parts availability a breeze.
Wish I could afford one, that they had 3 hours of gas tank, and had maxed out shopping haul set up. Love the full fenders; makes you a real biker. Honda small engines can be very hard to beat. My bicycle has a better heating and cooling system though, and I have ice and snow tires. Your analysis is good.

I had a Honda Cub 70 in 1974. It was fun but not practical for commuting because I couldn't go on the Expressway and tough in a rainy climate. I was living near Seattle, USA where it rains 300 days of the year.
I've not been to Seattle yet. Do you see many Honda Cubs there now?

Thank for the review I think some of your points are a bit obvious . I had a rule on the c90 I sold to fund my super cub after 90 minutes rideing the bike Needs a rest and I need a coffee. Ordered mine in August expecting delivery in about 6 weeks

The new pearl color on the 2023 looks good. You can buy hand warmers at the ski shop to put into your gloves. They’ll keep you hands warm for a couple hours.
As an experiment I have attached some bar mitts to the C90 for now to see what they do. Seem good but make things a bit cumbersome.
As for a new colour, I like the pearl too. I asked the Honda Dealership if the colour was going to change for 2023 and they said no, not for the UK!
I really want a Honda CT125 but they are 1) not available here and 2) very pricey to import. You are most of the way to a gently used Africa Twin or Tenere 700 for the same money!!!
@@EpohDerf Yeh, they are not in stock and dealers tend to mark them up in the U.S. too. On the website Honda advertises $3,899 U.S. price. A nearby Honda dealer had a couple 2022 Super Cub 125’s, but would have been $4,500 out the door, $5,000 after license and delivery charges! But, I suppose it’s the same with the other bikes. I’ve always bought used bikes too. But now the older bikes here in the U.S. cost nearly as much, sometimes even more, than a new bike. They selling trashed Cubs or CT110 for $2,500, and the nicer ones they think they can sell for the price of a new Super Cub 125.

I was on the waiting list for a brand spanker but decided I was having enough fun with the gently used one I have that someone else could have it.

Your trip reminds me of a run i did back from PZ to London ( I was a courier) left a 9pm with snow going over Bodmin moor. Was not hanging about on an XJ900, but the time i got off the M3 at Sunbury, and my first red light, i found i couldnt pull in the clutch and only just managed to crunch down the gears to neutral......just like a c90. Riding in the winter here in Sweden is worse!

@@EpohDerf Stay in front of the log burner with a beer! I run a 40 year old Honda xl with 6v electrics, so heated clothing is out. I find military winter clothing works best.

I think it's very cool. You play the flute and use it in your videos. I had this idea that I bought an Irish tin flute and learned 10 songs that I might be able to go around pubs in Ireland and drink for free. I think the Super Cub is super cool. In the States, a few people used the New Super Cub in the Scooter Cannonball Run. I hope you had a very merry christmas and the year has been prosperous. I like the increased safety and visibility aspect of under lighting some motor cycles.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. I am afraid I've tricked you! The underlighting is just a cheap led lamp on the floor... Tin whistle is a good old instrument. Available everywhere to anyone with a little cash and there is only so bad 6 holes in a metal tube can sound!

Honda bikes do not like the salt used on British roads so make sure you wash down the bike after being out on salted roads, pay particular attention to the wheel rims as my NC700 wheels corroded around the beading and tyre valves allowing salt water to get into the wheel causing them to corrode from the inside. I did a tour in Scotland on my Cub, 1720 miles from Reading and back with camping gear so fully loaded, I only changed the oil when I got back and adjusted the chain once and it never missed a beat( throttle pinned most of the time ) I have now fitted a small screen as even in June it was cold on the NC500. It will do 70 down hill with the wind behind you but max 60 for me loaded up as the wind was in my face most of the time, proper planning of fuel stops on a long trip is needed.

I keep thinking I need a CT125 but might attempt an engine swap on the C90 before spending £4.97m on a CT.

@@EpohDerf Fellow Wiltshire ride here, I have a CT110 Postie Bike, but I'd love for Honda to officially bring the CT125 here instead of having to do a grey import. It solves a number of the issues you list around the practicality of the Super Cub and just seems like a much more sensible proposition to me. It's a mystery why they won't sell it here.

You are correct I have not seen another Super Cub - lots of scooters but no Cubs. I reckon the Grom and Monkey are bigger sellers but they are “potentially” less stable with their smaller wheels.
I've not tried a grom or monkey but would like to. I will have a look on how many left to see how many super cubs they think there are...

@@EpohDerf thanks. More than I thought. I occasionally see the previous model Super ( in mostly red ) for sale but I understand from other “tubers” that the suspension is better on the newer one - plus the extra seat. Like you as the owner of a C90 it would be interesting to try a Super.
I think that the bike is in very tiny category that not many people will want. The modern 125 scooters have similar specs and speed but fully automatic, have under seat storage and don't have chain to lube and adjust over time. At the same time, the bike is priced almost twice as 125 scooter. Or just for 15% more money, you can get Royal Enfield Meteor 350, that is very very popular and good bike. I am not trying to downgrade the bike, just to try to explain why there are not many around. I currently own Sym symphony 125 and 20 years old Kymco 250 maxi scooter
Hi - please advise: the SC125s here is the USA are not sold with rear footpegs or seats, but as you know they are available and I have them for mine. The max weight listed is 234lbs. I became aware of this motorbike last year in Vietnam, where I would typically see families of 3-5 on the Supercub so…is it reasonable to expect it to pack 2 people maybe 315lbs total? The short answer is simply that I am stubborn. A better answer would be that you could try a sheepskin rug from IKEA.... That will be what I do next I think.

I only tiddle about really. Been at it sporadically for ages but have never really practised consistently and wouldn't consider my self a 'player'...
The whistle is in the key of D and is made by Kilarney. Something that make it nice to play is how even the amount of breath you need to play in the lower and upper register. It feels really well made, feels 'quick' to use, isn't too shrill or breathy sounding.

Hope it is seeing plenty of use. I am really keen to see another 'in real life'. Got plenty more video ideas.
Do you run it on super petrol? Mine's much happier with it and averages 160+mpg, mostly around town but in a hilly area. I've never noticed periods of higher speeds to make much difference to economy - always 110 ish on 3 litres - but i also don't try to make it go faster than it wants to, on the level it'll do 50 on barely half throttle and that's as fast as i take it. Coming to one from a bigger bike, engine heat is noticeable for its complete absence. The leg guards don't guard your legs, the mirrors are all elbows, the seat's ok once you stop thinking about it.
I only really have 2 complaints; it could really do with an "overdrive" 5th gear to you can drop the revs on downhills, and the speedo takes it's reading from the gearbox, so if you change the sprockets that becomes incorrect and you get an abs fault. Both of those things essentially come from the same place. Other than that, i really like it and am glad i got it.
Nobody's criticised it for lack of size etc, which would've happened if i'd got a cbf or similar.
I put super in it whenever I can. I ought to do a back to back, super Vs normal and see which offers better economy.

I keep thinking I'd like a CT125 but they are impossible to get over here without spending pop star money.
My Dad has moved down to Warminster ( must have been something i said ) , its a trip of about 48 miles each way so depending on what vehicle i take is using 2-3 gallons of Shell's finest and with the recent price hikes has curtailed the frequency of popping down for a cuppa. The other thing is the trudge down the hateful 303 with the moon pointers slowing to gawp at the stones , so i was thinking about a Cub to trundle down the old roads through Andover,Ludgershall, Larkhill etc and just enjoy the bimble ( plus there's nice B roads round here for tootling ) , i have seen a nice low mileage 90 like yours which could go on my classic insurance but i think you've helped me decide on the Super Cub which would probably get a lot more use..... just need to sneak down to a dealer and put a deposit down ( i have too many apparently 🤷🏽♂️ so cant have any more ) and figure out where to hide it ....
I am afraid you can't hide it here. There is the book on the A303 which I have yet to finish. As for a supercub, the deposit is merely £100 so the argument goes as follows: it is more expensive not to put a deposit down - if I don't, I'll have to buy an old c90!

@@EpohDerf the salesman apologised for not having one to look and did say that a small deposit would secure an order for one ( arrival time end of Feb ) and once it arrived if i didn't like it my deposit would be returned which seems fair .
@@TweedsGarage go for it. If there are 'politics' to another purchase, obtain succulent flaps of delicious ham, someflowers and a drink of alcohol. Deliver these to your would-be opponent and all will progress smoothly.

I am 6'1" and it is absolutely fine for anything up to and including 300mi a day. Furthermore, there are only 203 (or 208 including untaxed) in the country. It has a 'please use me' appeal stronger than any other bike I have owned and I am not entirely sure why as to look at its attributes on a piece of paper, it could easily be dismissed as 'just another scooter'.
It is only £100 to get on the waiting list and it is most definitely worth being ready to snap up a lightly used one if you are impatient like me.

In general I like Super Cub but I have other small Honda bikes: Dax 125 and Vision 110. The problems I do see in current SC is the keyless system which I had in one of my bikes and I never liked it. Second one and it's a deal breaker is a colour. I would like to have a classic colour scheme.

I lost a keyless fob and they are approximately £4.9bn each!

Honda should upgrade this 125 to 15 hp, 9 is not a lot.
They could also make a GT version a bit larger with 300 cc engine.

I agree that 9hp is a bit lacking. However, I think 9hp is the byproduct of making an engine that will run and run and run. It is understressed.
I'd love to try on with a 300cc engine.
@@EpohDerf They have 15 Hp in their PCX don't they ? that's a useful extra bit of power I think Honda should make a bike like this with more power not even call it the cub with proper analogue speedo and the same transmission.
Having said that there are many roads I can travel on here in Ireland that are more than suitable for the power of the C125.
I do have a 2007 Yamaha T-Max 500 that is fairly bet up , I got it for learning, it's fast for all roads but I would like the C125 but it is rather pricy.
When you ride a motorcycle, you ride in several layers. Here's a secret I learned from riding year round in the Southern US during the worst of the winter: Wear sweat pants and a sweat shirt as your second layer... over a tshirt and long johns as your first. Then dress over that with a third layer.... jeans, motorcycle jacket, etc. Two layers of socks. For gloves, I don't use regular gloves, but big huge welding gloves. A scarf around your neck with tail ends tucked into your shirt. Of course, a helmet with a face shield always to keep bugs and rain from hitting your face.
In rain your shoes and socks will get wet, but you can keep your feet dry longer by putting them inside plastic shopping bags (here: Walmart) and then stuffing your foot then in another sock and then into your shoes.
Also, I know they look not so cool, but a windshield does a lot to keep the wind off your chest... and if you duck down a little bit, off your face as well at least on my motorcycle.
Dressed warm above as described, the parts of you that will still get cold first will be your hands, your knees, your feet, and your face... but as long as you keep your center body mass toasty, the circulating blood will keep those from getting too frosty. When you get off the bike, put on a stocking cap and pull it down around your ears to warm them up.
Honda CMX250 and Honda CM450 w/ box
That does sound lovely and warm. When I got really cold I had: longjohns, jeans, alpinestars Andes trousers (with the insulation in).
Top was a thermal, a fleece lined windproof jacket and then the Andes Jacket (with insulated liner).
Neck had a tight fitting neck gaiter, windproof neck gaiter, then a thick scarf (tucked in).
Boots were just waterproof tcx boots and thick socks.
Gloves were insulated, winter goretex ones by Richa. Just as you wrote, my hands were the first bits to become cold...
I don't think I would ride to land's end in the winter again but never say never... There's always John o groats.
@@EpohDerf Another tip I learned, is wear a full face helmet with a visor all the time. Here, it's a red flag if the police see you driving without a helmet, so kind of required if you want to stay off their radar.
When I first started riding, I would alternate between a full face helment, and a second one that looked like a German Stahlhelm with clear goggles. However, the helmet strap and my open ears would catch flying bugs in them (not fun!) and rain will sting your lips. You can roll your lips inward but not fun to have to hold them that way for miles.
Buy some Rain-X to apply to your helmet visor. On a motorcycle helmet, you do not have windshield wipers... Rain-X which is hydroscopic will make the water bead off so you can see. Your visor and glasses if you wear them will fog up so have something to wipe them off with or coat them too with antifog and antirain Rain-X stuff.
I still need to buy some legit motorcycle boots and pants, but that will never happen. In lieu of that, make sure your shoes got tred on their soles, because when you have to come to stop (and try to come to a complete stop as little as possible = you'll see why if you ever have to drive a much heavier bike) slick shoes that are fine otherwise will slide like your are on ice holding up a motorbike on wet pavement when you stop. It's easy to forget and find yourself in trouble wearing slick soled shoes and no eye protection in the rain.
I kept a rolled up weather breaker rain plastic jacket on the bike at all times just in case I ever got caught so at least I'd have something to knock off the rain. A few times it saved my butt. You want to always keep your main body warm and dry, as that part can heat up all your extremities by circulating blood.
Avoid driving on loose gravel in a parking lots, and watch out for curbs, or driving up 45 plus angled embankments. The only mini-wrecks I ever had were from loose gravel, hitting curbs I did not see were there, and trying to drive up someone's insanely steep driveway and not having the momentum and suddenly finding myself rolling backwards out of control.
Have fun. I'll get a Super Cub someday.. if I can ever find one... cheap. I almost did, once (free) but the guy didn't follow through giving it to me. It was molding away in his barn, and he had long since moved on to flying 3 wheel paramotors and had no interest in it anymore.
@@EpohDerf BTW, my 250cc Rebel gets about 50-65mpg, and the 450cc gets about 45-50mpg... so you can compare that with the 120-140mpg of the 150cc Super Cub.
Of course, MPG is variable, depending on the altitude, time of year, and speed you are driving it at. The lower the speed and more constant it is, the higher your mpg will be. At 30-35mph, I could probably get about 70-80 on the 250cc Rebel.
You kind of plan your trips into town or whereever around the weather. A weather radar map on your smart phone or asking Alexa the weather / rain / temp forecast before you plan any trip or leave to go anywhere is always a must do move. A radar map is superior to a prediction, you can actually see where the rainstorms are and which way they are heading.
Try to avoid driving at night, esp. if you have to do through some forelorn countryside like I have to do, because the single headlight beam attracts bugs flying right at it, and guess who is right behind that headlight to catch all those bug impacts... you :-)
I'm on the waiting list but I'm thinking of going for a second hand one. Most have under 1000 miles anyway.
Oh quick question: there is a slad of internet lore that says these engines "open up" a bit when over 1000 miles. Do you think that's true and if you do what does it mean for your experience?
I think there might be something to the comments of people 'from inside the internet'.
It is perhaps a little more willing to go over 60mph. That said it hasn't gone from an asthmatic layabout to a cheetah. I think most engines will tend to 'relax' a bit but not having a brand new one to compare to, it is hard to say.
I am sure whichever route you go, new or used, you'll enjoy it.
Do you have to ease off the throttle when shifting?
Yes, you do.
Accelerate in gear. Off the throttle. Tread down for the next gear. Back on the throttle.
Down shifting, you want to slow down, start pressing the shift lever, small blip on throttle, slot the gear in.

Should also mention, among all of these points, the inability to find OEM and aftermarket parts and accessories. Being in the US makes it really hard to find anything that isn't just some cheap, universal Chinese junk, I wanted good stuff to put on it, but it came at a cost. I did kind of cheap out on the top box and the saddle bags, but they aren't being used for super long distances and the bike isn't sitting outside 24/7. Thankfully, thus far, the only parts I had to import were the saddlebag brackets from Thailand and that's only because I, once again, didn't want the cheap things I was finding.
If you're planning on keeping it stock, you just have to worry about oil and filters, but if you want to "make it yours" like I did, prepare to spend some money. There is almost no aftermarket for these bikes.
Great point. I've just had a look and you're right, there's barely any oem stuff and a lot of what is suggested comes via ebay from China.
Exhausts are eye watering against the price of the bike!

It is quite good, isn't it? Whilst it isn't as useful as a Volvo estate, it is incredibly frugal for one person to get around with modest luggage at a modest pace.

What sort of riding do you want to do? It might not be perfect for you and really, for a small engined bike, it is quite expensive... despite that, huge fun.
@@EpohDerf Small country roads and sweeping coastline of northern ireland where I live. I had a cbr600 last summer and drove it too quick, had a tank slapper moment which scared the shit outta me. So now I'm back to looking at lightweight small capacity for just getting out and about on

Sounds about right. I think we are supposed to call that progress. The only 50cc thing I've had is a Tomos A3 and that was glacial in its slowness.

I'm still to see one 'in real life' but in fairness to anyone that has one, the weather has been absolutely loathsome for riding.
I've done some and I've enjoyed it over the winter. However, nothing beats a beautiful day and a bit of motorbiking - if that makes me a fair weather rider then so be it.
On the subject of price, I think everything in the UK around vehicles has seen a significant price hike in recent years from new all the way down to the real bottom feeder vehicles you used to be able to pick up for next to nothing.
It's ten miles to my job. It usually takes me twenty minutes on my road king. It takes 15 minutes on my cub 😂

I thought that doing it once baby had arrived would be too selfish an enterprise so got it done in about 3 weeks start to finish. sounds like the sh125 is a better option....we just hired a piaggio 125 beverley in greece... everywhere with our combined 28 stone on it... it performed very well... the cub sounds like a slug... how many miles it done the honda can take 3000 miles to run in... they proper loosen up at 5000 .....
Just sneaking up on 3000 mi and it is definitely a better ride than it was when I got it with 200 mi on. 28st and a 125 sounds like a hoot!

I think that flat black version is hideous. Why is it almost impossible to find a bike of any kind anymore that is not flat black? I seriously considered buying a 2021 model, in red and white. But I quickly discovered I didn't fit on that tiny little solo seat. It was several inches too far forward. Why didn't they make a full length seat available? Way back, I had a 1983 Honda C70 Passport (same as a Super Cub) with a full length seat, which I was able to ride. It was nice, but needed more power. Finally they make a 125cc version, but only put part of a seat on it. It is clear that this thing was not made for full sized adults. I'm 6' with a 34" inseam.
I agree with you about the seat to a degree but (by your metric) as a full size adult at 6'1" you can get used to it, I think maybe the seat foam softens a bit with use, too. The actual mechanics of the electronic seat release and how it sits down onto the chassis of the bike make me wonder if there could even be a long bench seat without some modification or upsetting the seat release.
As for colour, I would love it if they did a nice green and cream or something. I don't know how the meeting went where they all agreed making a C125 look like a stealth bomber was a great idea...
Despite this, owning one is an absolute hoot. I think the 2023 model is a nice pearl grey and cream - much nicer. Perhaps hold out for one of them?

@@Ellis_B a slow, (to many) overpriced, small motorbike is not the right thing for everyone. I haven't made the videos for everyone to agree with me, just to show how I've found owning one. Reactions 'in real life' have been overwhelmingly positive - lots of people just smile seeing it zip past with a big oaf on. Every time I get to use it, I smile a lot, too.

First, this type of motorcycle was never intended for long-distance transportation. Its purpose is transportation around town and I think the manufacturer states that. As for the price, these motorcycles are delivered in containers and there are usually 24 pieces in a container. If you order the whole container from the manufacturer, the price is about 2.5 times lower than the price at which they are regularly sold. I don't know how it is with taxes in different countries, but I can guarantee for this information. If you shop like that, pick up a few interested friends or rent a mopeds, you'll make a great purchase.
Wow, that's a heavy old markup for the supplying dealers. I wonder how I would explain 24x Honda C125 being delivered to the house! That sort of saving is really appealing though.
