2022 Honda Super Cub 125 Update | What's New?

  • Following on from doing a quick overview of the Honda Monkey 125 updates for 2022, I thought I’d mention the 2022 Honda Super Cub 125 update as well, to show what's new.
    Both these models go Euro5 in 2022, meaning availability on the European market, in a win for all those who need that compliance on their motorcycles.
    The big change is of course in the engine department as a result, with the new Super Cub 125 to run the C110 bottom end, with a redesigned crankcase, and the two-valve cylinder head and top-end found on the latest edition Euro5 Honda Grom.
    Bore and stroke is 50 by 63.1 mm, and a compression ratio of 10:1, while power is a slight increase to 7.2 kW in total, and torque peaking at 10.4 Nm. According to Honda that offers a smoother, more powerful and more efficient engine overall.
    Part of the package is a new airbox, new connecting tube and new injector position. The exhaust is also updated, despite no visible changes, with two catalysers replaced with a single more efficient catalyser. To match the ECU has also been reprogrammed, while output from the Alternating Current Generator is increased.
    Unlike on the Monkey, the gearbox on the Super Cub retains a four-speed gearbox, with neutral found at the bottom rather than between first and second, and there’s an automatical centrifugal clutch, with a traditional gear selector for at a standstill.
    Like the Monkey the Super Cub offers 1.5 L /100 km, with a much smaller fuel tank capacity of 3.7 L which is still good for 250 km.
    The Super Cub naturally retains that almost scooter-like contained bodywork, including leg guards but without floor boards, for a very clean overall style, while foot pegs and the pillion seat are standard fitment in 2022.
    This is also seen on the headlight and controls, which are all integrated, with forged tapered bars and the instruments also incorporated all in one. Lighting is LED, with that dash running an analogue speedo and warning lights in the outer and an inner digital display, separated by chrome rings, for a neo-retro kind of design.
    Like the Honda Monkey, the key has a button which will flash the bike’s lights, with an immobiliser also fitted and matched to the key.
    The steel backbone frame continues, with new mounting hangers for the redesigned crankcases, and the ‘bars and seat are rubber mounted, with the footpegs also running rubber inserts.
    The Super Cub is a little heavier than the Monkey at 110 kg, and runs a longer wheelbase at 1245 mills, with 17 inch die-cast aluminium wheels, a 70 by 90 front and 80 by 90 rear. There’s dual twin rear shocks and telescopic forks, with 100 mm of travel, while a 220 mm front disc brake is run alongside a single-piston caliper. The rear drum is a 110 mm unit in comparison.

    This little Honda does look good, it must be nice to commute to work if it isn't too great a distance to travel. In Brazil we have the Honda Biz and the Honda Pop 110i which fill the Monkey's slot, but neither look as classic. Keep up with the great videos!

    Great bike. It would be interesting to see a video clip on accessories such as clear screen and a top box in place of the pillion seat. That would make this bike a great commuter, shopping unit. Do they make a blue version that would go well with the red seat.

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  Před 3 lety +3

      I didn't see any note of which accessories will be available with the announcement of this bike, but there's a rear carrier that should be suitable for a rear box. It would look great in a blue, but there was no mention of colours available, so I'm not sure whether that means the grey is the only option or if there may be additional colours on the way. The old 100 model looked great in blue.

    no side stand?

    • @williamcoulter5462
      @williamcoulter5462 Před 2 lety +2

      In the EU UK North America and several other countries a side stand is expensive as it needs a switch to interact with the ecu and a lock device in the gearbox to prevent a gear change from neutral when down, this requires a rework of the bottom end which is expensive other countries do not have the same standards and so a side stand can be fitted, we get the center stand instead which is easy to use a the bike is so light. Plus we in UK get the passenger seat which is mounted to a rack and foot pegs.

    • @jonpram1737
      @jonpram1737 Před 3 lety +1

      100%; basically all their grom-engined bikes need a 150/160 version for Aussie/global use and a 125 for Europe… like they do with the PCX. Redesigning for euro 5 was the time to do it. Sadly I think the profit margins on these are so high, and the core demographic buy them for aesthetic reasons, so it’s not seen as a worthwhile investment on Honda’s part.
      For me though the price of all of them but the grom is a deal breaker. I know these fashion bikes are often jacked up (ahem Vespa) but I just can’t justify it against bang for buck with other bikes. The Matt black is nice though

    wont meet full comfort for larger riders e.g westerners till it is offered with full length seat, as traditional ones where a ct seat is stupid,...... and limits the amount of luggage it can carry. with a rack aft of full lenth seat see pics of old ones .
    so with full saddle bags and rear gear sack/ stile pack you can still move ford and aft to get comfortable
    instant round aussie tourer just like the old ct 110 was, but with more speed to doge the road trains.
    Honda would sell hundreds of them.
    should have 10 k speed advantage on HI way over ct 110.
    for overseas people yes around/trough and over aussie,.... adventures on ct s is a thing.

      watch Honda miss a huge sales opportunity from all ages by not offering a proper seat.
      I cant see a 20 something young lady choosing that, over another scooter with a big comfy seat.
      no matter how cute it looks.

A super affordable, cute and comfortable option would be great for getting more young people and women into riding. Shame really, encouraging people to ride would be great overall, as so many people drive with a single person in the vehicle so much of the time, it'd help with parking, congestion, be cheaper second vehicles (over another car)... I think the motorcycling advertising is normally targeted within the rider community too.

      People don’t buy these for performance. Not what its designed for or marketed for. Cub owners love giggling at the pump because they get well over 100mpg. No 250 I know of gets better than 80mpg. Also a 125 is enough to keep up i with traffic in town. Going up to a 250 it still wouldn’t be a do everything bike. Have you ever taken a 250 on the interstate? I’m not talking 55 mph highways. The super cub can handle that even. I’m talking 70-80mph interstates. 250s can’t handle those roads either.
