- This is a principle that I have been using to teach thousands of Marines to do more Pull Ups. Overlooking the small area that this focuses on can result in a lower grip tolerance and reducing your strength overall!
No bs, straight talking and a practical video at hand. Very good, especially since this topic is not to be underestimated.
I've been watching videos about this topic for an hour by now and this is the ONLY video that with only the FIRST tip is already game changing. Thank you so much, very different and useful info.
CZcams needs more content like this. Thanks for everything you do.
I recently installed a 2x4 in the garage to mount a doorway chin up bar to, that edge will be perfect to start practicing on.
Definitely incorporating the ledge into my workouts...totally different grip feel. Thanks!👏👏
Thank you for this video because this is just what I needed increasing my grip strength. I really enjoy your CZcams channel and the content you put out
Thank You Michael for your service to our country and for sharing this content, Very Much Appreciated. Make It A Great Day My Friend ❤️🙏
Great video, this topic is extremely important for guys at gym, it's completely ignored by the majority of people, thanks !!!!
Great information , great ideas ! Thanks for your service ! Keep them coming !
Of course!!
Absolutely great idea!
I'm definitely going to try to incorporate it into my hanging practice and I want to see if it can help me bust 20 pull ups.
Can't wait to try it!
Thanks for sharing and demonstrating!
Will add the Ledge training to my workouts, many thanks.
great tips, thanks!
Thanks for this - I had not thought of that.
very informative - thank you good sir
Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾
Glad I found your channel ❤. I am challenging myself to do pull ups and I have no idea about grips strength. I want to learn how to do this the proper way. ❤
Amazing!! You’ll get it for sure!!
I’ve noticed even 8:06 on doing rows, my grip is the limiting factor as it is on pull ups, Great pointers
Thank you, sir
Awesome 👍
Thanks Man
Thank you.
Damn I gotta try that!
I hang from a thick ledge every day. It's great but depending on the ledge size you can't really use your thumbs. It's good in conjunction with using a pull-up bar like you said. Like the video.
this is something to train if you are doing the ultimate cliffhanger or the devil steps in a ninja gym. the wooden ledge on the cliffhanger is only an inch wide. just enough for your first finger joint.
One of keys to a pull up, for vast majority of men, is having body fat percentage less than 15, not having 30 percent body fat. That to me is the first item to accomplish.
It’s true the smaller you are the easier pull ups become. World strong man competitors as well as body builders usually hate pull ups some can do a few sure but I’ve never once seen a giant 300 lb guy do more pull ups than a reasonably fit guy half his size.
I stopped the video at about 3 minutes in to go to exactly what you recommended against at 5:01.
You're right it is difficult but my tendons had been strengthened enough to be safe fortunately.
Yeah, me too!

By the way nice shirt and pants. Have you a link for buying stuff like this?
The thumbnail 👌
4:23 you can use the post as a ledge for one hand and switch sides. Hybrid training if you don't have any equipment
The other day I dusted and cleaned the cable stack and I've been jumping up and hanging/doing pull-ups on that ledge. Just found this video. CZcams is listening to me.
nice. I am thinking of building something just for this exercise.
Heck yeah!!
@@MichaelEckert I think I could attach a flat-ish ledge to the side of my house, perhaps wide enough to traverse it from side to side, like hand walking? what is your opinion of that idea?
Xem đầu tiên oh oh yeye. Silver youtube symbol coming soon. Chúc mừng 🍻🥂🎊🎆
recommend a climbers board
Any recommendations for fixing golfers elbow from pull-ups?
What about farmers walk with kettlebell down in the fingers instead of palms. Just tried some of those definitely feel a different sensation in my fingers. That’s all I have lying around at the moment and wanted to test that out
Sure just be careful of too much stress on your 2nd knuckle. It’s easy to injure and takes a long time to heal!
i have this problem, not only with pullups but lifting heavy weights or doing lat pulldowns. I can do more reps but the weights just slip out of my hands before im finished especially when doing lat pulldowns
I do push ups on my finger's. I'm trying to get to two or three fingsrs only..
Hello Eckert! What is your grip strenght in lbs? Did you measure with a dynamometer?
I have a question, is there any way, by doing grip exercises, to make the size of the hands/fingers increase? I have small hands and fingers! And does the age matters for this? I'm 39!
Vita info thanks
Why i like thumb over the bar like all the other fingers instead of wrapping around the bar? Any difference?
fingertip planks and or pushups?
Mericaaaaa!!!!!
From Việt Nam xa xôi diệu dợi
What about false grip? Super hard but it seems like the opposite of his suggestion.
or find a thicker bar
What if ya hold the bar with open hand like using ur finger tips haha typed that right b4 u mentioned it
Can we do pull up just with just the fingers grip or will it be damaging to our hands?
I think you will be fine. Ask a mountain climber
It’s all about your tolerance to that style of training. Start in small doses. Tendons have very little blood flow so they take much longer to strengthen and repair. Just be consistent!
You can use fat grips.
I learned a lot from climbers friends, look at their training what they do to Hang with few fingers or throw themselves up with the pinkie haha
Do pull ups with less fingers you gonna see! Hold your groceries bags with just one finger when you come home or help someone, push ups on fingers etc after you gonna be able to hang with just three fingers then you can have fun
You can also try putting dictionary on your palm and back hand on table and push up with fingers only
Also an exercise I love for forearms is pull ups with a towel, so efficient
Do NOT put too much stress on the finger adjacent to the little finger, or you could well end up with a chronic pain on the inside of the elbow. This is something that affects many who let their grip slide to the fingers when doing pull ups or pull downs.
Become a fisherman. My grip strength is insane. As is my arm strength
Why did you have to use my arms for the thumbnail
Yea keep the grippers strong😂😂😂
The pull up and flexed arm hang used to be part of the physical education class in my elementary school back in the late 70's. Whe use to have competitions on who could hang on longest. Plus we had a real iron monkey bar station that was 30 feet across and 10 feet high. Used those at recess everyday. Grip strenght is also acquired thru manual work. I've seen boys that were my age with twice the grip strength because of the chors on the farm. Nowadys we just cultivate a bunch of pussies with loud mouths that whine and push buttons. Shamefull really. It's gotten to the point where the military had to lower their admission standards.
You lost me at the USMC stencils.
👇 who here struggles with 1 pull up? 😁
Assisted pull machine if you have access to one is the best.
So how much does this carryover to pullups? isnt the reason why peopel fail on pullups lat strenght and not grip issue?
You only did 6 reps....
