- Hey Everyone!
In this video we Highlight Joey Ukrop's 1970 Harley Davidson Ironhead XLCH.
We have been big fans of Joey's Ironhead for some time now we figured we would make a more in depth video about it.
Joey and I cruise around San Francisco for some time and hit some of the most iconic areas of the city.
We stopped by Lombard Street, Coit Tower, the Bay Bridge/ Embarcadero, and North Beach pizza spot Golden Boy.

I rode an 84 Iron head for 23 years. Wish I still had it. I like my 99 Softail Custom really well. but I should have kept the Iron head too. My first Harley was 1942 "45" flat head. That was in 1955. Yeah, I am 81 years old.
ironheads have such an iconic look and style
An Ironhead with a cool back story...and riding around in SF...don't get any better than that. Love Sportsters!
My first Harley is an 70 XLCH. IRONHEADS FOREVER. Love your skooter!!!!!
Heard Joey talk about this bike a million times and I STILL learned something in this video. Another banger of a video!
Cool sportster. The owner, Joey is a real motorcycle enthusiast !
Hell yeah! What a fun afternoon. Thank you everyone for the kind words. Looking forward to seeing what bike you feature next!
By far now my favorite video/story on Ironheads, since I own one just like yours, 1970, bought in San Bernadino, hauled to Santa Barbara in my old F250. It has needed a top end for the two years I've owned it, has sat in my gardens, and you've inspired me to keep going on its restoration. Thank you~~ Oh, and my cat's name is Smiley~~
Great bike, cool but modest guy, with respect for his machine, the guy who owned and rode it before him, and the general chopper scene in California, and great shots of San Francisco. It’s really brightened up a foggy December night in north east England.
I love those old buckhorn bars dude.
Great bike ,no frills , all motor
I really like these "up close & personal" look at cool bikes.
Joey's old Ireonhead is "every man's bike".
Thanks, Erin in Kissimmee Fl.
peace.
Dude, I miss my 1970 Ironhead; I had one as a second bike but when my wife was diagnosed with MS i ultimately had to sell it to make a couple insurance payment! Ugh! I may not get to find one exactly like it but have been looking to add a second bike again for when my boys come home and we can ride together! Thanks for the story, feel the same way about these old bikes!
Got a 74 XLCH w/ electric too. I chopped it with a hard tail and raked the neck. . .yeah the dreaded chopper flop!
A poor boy backyard build, for sure!
Engine now rebuilt, tranny tightened up, no gauges, lots of handmade iron; but hey its strong and straight going down the yellow line.
Thanks for taking us along! Top machine!
New sub and a Vietnam Veteran Loved the story of first owner....Beautiful bike do not sell it.
Fantastic video. It's good to see such a beautiful bike in sunny San francisco, I'm in Birmingham UK the weather is not so good here........!
Awesome bike and great story, Thanks for sharing
Love this vid, bikes, people and location. Joeys' bike is perfect. Iv'e just bought back my original Purple 73 XLCH, ( Black cases, Banana Caliper model), i had sold to a guy 3 years ago. Regards from UK.
Great piece of history on a HD Ironhead, with a great new owner that really "gets it" about these old bikes. Thanks for putting this together.
Just found this channel. Such an enjoyable video. Thanks for posting.
Nice looking Ironhead!
Nice. My '51 Pan-Shovel has a similar backstory that made me want to retain much of the bike's previous-owner DNA, if you will, but I've been thinking of adding a sissy bar now... thanks for the inspiration. I'll have to bend one up!
Right on, rad video guys. I've followed Joey's roadster build on the HAMB from the start. The bike is super cool. Nice job!
Traded my XLCH for a 80 inch LowRider. It sat in the dealership for months ,no one could start it .Walked in and the salesman asked me so went over ,one kick she fired .Should have kept that bike
Saludos desde Argentina!!
I bought a 1973 XLH brand new. I wish I still had that bike.
69, 70, Probably the best Sportster ever made! I'd never ever sell it!
Truly Epic. You guys are living it. And this bike has a fantastic story you get to continue the legacy of. Nice work as always dudes.
Bought an 82 XLS last year just before turning 20. Rabbit ear bars, king and queen seat, fishtails, 6 over forks and a 21 front tire. I got lucky and got it for a good price. Not chopped, but the swing arms nice for Idaho spring roads full of holes
Killer bike man
So happy for you Joey. I have a 1973 Ironhead that I’m restoring also with a 33.4 fork and right hand shift. 21 and 18 drums and electric and kicker. Can’t wait to finish it. Would love to ride down from Seattle to SF and say hi. You guys are always welcome here on Whidbey Island. Erwin
You guys rode right past my place. Maybe we’ll go for a ride one of these days 👍
Damn, that bike brings back some great memories. My first Harley was a brand new 75 XLCH. Even though it had that stupid left side shift conversion, I rode the shit out of that bike. I’ve had several Harley’s since then, but my greatest memories where on that Ironhead. Your bike is a true survivor. Ride safe.
Harley should have told the government to F*** off and leave our "Freedom" alone
Timeless classic cool motorcycle I wouldn't change a thing were it mine.
sick episode. thanks for sharing.
This was great! Love the bike and the story. Looking forward to more profile vids.
Great video. Abstract. Just had an essence. And good on you Joey.
Great video man, I’m loving the back and such a great story behind. Showcasing frisco scenery very nice as well! Keep ‘em coming.
Groovy Two-Shoes
Nice bike!
1970 last year of the sportster ! Nice ! 😎
When you take care of those old ironheads they're loyal machines. I built a 76 XLCH a couple winters ago and I'm still kicking myself for selling that thing.
Real XLs, shift on the right. HA!
Love the patina on that scoot. Ride on! Greetings from Toronto Canada.
I’m convinced in the old iron head now. I bought a first year 1984 Evo motor in an FXR frame. It was crap. I rolled the dice 🎲 and lost that one. I think I’ll try my hand at a 1983 iron head sportster next.
sick af!!!!
Very nice old Ironhead and nicely done video. I've owned my '74 XLH 31 years, not for sale ever.
Great video 👍
Seems to start real easy. Wish I could say the same for my '65.
Beautiful yet so handsome 🤘
Nice!
The shot at 4:00, with Coit tower in the background is very cool. I was in San Francisco about 20 years ago and fell in love with it. It really sucks that people are literally shitting on it now. That sucks.
sick!
Kick-kick-kick-kick, ect. Thats me kicking myself for selling my 70XLCH...OUCH!!
Ha! And man,do I know that feeling...
IRONHEADS RULE!!!
🤘😎🤘
eye cant do right hand shift.
😎👍😎
Sweet
The way he kicked that bike over you know he already hyper extended his knee 🤣
First time on mine it ripped my boot 👢 dinged my toe😂
@@Keepitmooving I still limp around sometimes in the summer from kickback from my 1972 sportster
I don't care if they keep making fun and say it's like a high school girls bike, an ironhead is an awesome bike!!!
getting mine back from the shop soon..in England.
That was my first harley. 70 xlch. Bought in 78
Those forks look perfect, to me! How many inches over are they?
I have 3 ironheads. Mine are all choppers. One of them is hardtail with Denvers rigid Forks. 55 degrees of rake. No turning radius . Serious Swedish style long bike. Rough ride but ya get used to it
New to California in ‘68. Had a buddy with an iron head Sporty with solid forks and no rake. He looked cool on that bike! I’ve owned all sorts of bikes from all sorts of manufacturers including Evo FL’s and a FL Shovelhead. I’m 73 now and running a ‘96 Sportster. Ride forever!
@@ericsissenwein3601 I'm 58 years old. I hope I'm still on two wheels at your age sir!
Man.. Such a cool bike! I love sportster's! I would love to have an ironhead like that! Some day.. 😁
cool
Are y'all ever around zeitgeist?
Saw a gorgeous bike there, thinking old shovel head chopped and raked, but didnt get good enough look.
a few facts on front end please...nice bike.made to ride.
how'd you record on the bike?
Just love this story. I feel exactly the same about my 73 XLCH Sporty named Elvira I just completed. Love the bike so much. Question, how well does your front brake work? Check out my bike when able.
Any recommended websites that I could purchase a sportster ? That would help , actually. An Ironhead Off course. Anxious for your respond.
Hey there! Not sure if you have Instagram or not but if you do contact us through @mazi.Moto and we can talk a bit more about getting an ironhead!
Hipster.
Love this these videos I’m from New Jersey good background music you guys aren’t much into bike detailing😂
Nice Motorcycle…. How about cleaning it?
What is the bike on 0:28-0:32?
Hey there! That is the panhead that we put together last year! We have a few videos on it!
@@947w0rks alright! Will check them out can't wait !
@@947w0rks tried to find the videos but can't find them ? It's the one where the person riding it has an orange cap on

Also this one before I changed it up!

@@947w0rks ah great man! Thanks watching it now!
Ironheads were always great motors....it was always half ass " mechanics" that gave them a bad name! Basic motors too...very simple! Xs 650's are great too!
If it’s a chopper it’s by definition not a survivor. My stock 81 and 82 Sturgis’s and my 83 FXDG are still stock, proper survivors.
Can you please message me, I'm redoing one right now, and I'm working in cali in the bay area, home for me is Alabama
Iron heads rule won"t part with my 71 ever
Every modern motorcycle vlogger would tell you that you're dead, and that therefore your next-of-kin must have posted this video. You're dead because those drum brakes simply will not, and cannot, ever, stop a motorcycle. That such an assertion is demonstrably false does not stop them making it. I've heard many times that such brakes will never stop the bike, although they may slow it down. Of course I grew up using drum brakes exclusively, and could lock up any wheel any time if I so desired, but reality seldom has anything to do with opinion. Nope; if you don't have Brembos, steel braid lines and huge, dual front disks, that bike is NEVER stopping.
girls bike
My favorite girls bike ever made.
too nostalgic????......sportsters are nostalgic....60. years......thier done.......had two. generation 5...not. rubbermounts.......evos....
had a bonneville too.
Sir outstanding, I to have a ironhead survivor an 83 1000 and theirs nothing like it you have to ride this machine
Got a 74 XLCH w/ electric too. I chopped it with a hard tail and raked the neck. . .yeah the dreaded chopper flop!
