    Bubbles in resin happen often. You can’t stir fast as it pulls air into the resin and creates bubbles. You want the keep your stir stick touching the bottom of your cup and stir a bit slower and make sure you scrape the sides of the cup too. Use a toothpick to pop bubbles and you can also use a lighter to give it a quick hit with the flame. The heat pops the bubbles 🙂. Keep those creative juices flowing and I’m crazy jealous of your glass!!

    If you want to get the bubbles out of your cast resin use a small hand held butane blow torch. On a low flame pass torch across top of fresh poured resin, the heat draws the bubbles out to the surface and they pop. You can also use a pin to pop any larger bubbles. I use this technique on resin jewelry all the time, works like a charm. If you dont have a torch use a long handled lighter, not as effective but will work.

    To get rid of bubbles you need a Pressure Pot Paint Tank. (I've been watching lots of wood turning videos in which they add resin to fill in the gaps in the wood before turning). To prevent the items from floating in your resin after you pour it, you may need to glue the items down before the resin pour.

      Pressure pot is nice for big objects, but not practical for most hobbiests. Applying heat with a butane torch works fine, just dont get too close to the resin or your container or you might scorch it. You can also buy small devices that blow hot air without the flame but I can't remember what they're called. Check your resin periodically for bubbles for the first several hours and you should be set.

Every time a male customer came into the shop she would turn to me and say, "you will have to serve this gentleman because he is deeply attracted to me, and it wouldn't be professional". She said this about every man that came in. Doris always wore a kind of half wig, that just covered the back of her head, the wig was jet black, but her own hair at the front was dyed a deep red which looked very strange in comparison with the black. Her husband used to come and pick her up at 5 o'clock when the shop closed, and he always wore a hair piece. He used to wear it off to one side at a jaunty angle, a bit like a beret. Love the sea glass!! Pour the resin from higher up, it helps get rid of bubbles. Also go over the top with a lighter and it will pop bubbles.

      @@Sifinds or you could pour a thinner top coat on the flip side after the first setting is cured. It's called doming. That will also put the coin in the middle. Make sure all the measurements are exact. If not, the resin might not cure completely, might be sticky, or might uncure later.

    I like the bubbles! They remind me of the beautiful bottles that you find with bubbles in the glass. Your "practice" artwork is wonderful. The sea glass stained glass is stunning, the butterflies are perfect. I hope you continue making things from your excess finds. Your creativity is topnotch.

    So enjoyed this "session"!! I have been watching for several months and, I hope you won't mind my saying, you have grown into this CZcams thing wonderfully. My best friend, Cheech, and I like to binge watch our favorites ie, Nic, Matt, Nugget, the Dump Regulars, Tom B etc... So, I guess that is why I can see the difference a few years makes. You have hit on two favorites of mine, sea glass and stained glass and didn't you put them together beautifully!!! This video seemed to start with a film noir feeling, feet walking, you walking alone, hand slowly searching over rubble, then it eased in to "the finds". Did you mean to feel that way? Nicely done. I love your Etsy site but shipping to the US is astronomical, even on small items. I think we will put together an order and split the shipping (what are friends for lol?) Thank you for the adventures and your art💗 Please stay safe and well.

    I am not 100% sure but a heat gun may eliminate air bubbles.

    • @jmurdoch951
      @jmurdoch951 Před 3 lety +1

      Stir the resin and hardener very slowly. Stirring fast creates the bubbles. The heat gun idea is also good. Just use the gun while the resin is still liquid. When encapsulating something you need to let the base layer harden before putting the item to be encapsulated in and poring in the top layer.

      Warm the resin by sitting it in hot water for a few minutes. Mix slowly until all the milky strands are gone. Pour in thin layers. Spray rubbing alcohol on top to help get rid of the bubbles. Resin likes warm temps so do it on a sunny hot day outside or in a warm place. I love working with resin.

    Hi Si, loving the video as always. Me & my little girl love collecting sea glass & we've played with resin too, but never considered combining the 2. Love the result, will definitely have to 'borrow' that idea next year :)
    Setting old pennies in resin is a legal no-no unless you have a licence from HM Treasury. Although they are not currently in circulation, Section 10 of the Coinage Act 1971 states that you can't break up or deface any coinage that was demonetised after 16th May 1969 & decimalisation wasn't until 15th February 1971. The ONLY coin that can legally be 'defaced' without a licence is a farthing. HM Treasury class any drilling, stamping or setting of a coin that can't be undone without using tools as "defacing". Licences are pretty easy to obtain if you email HM Treasury & it's free, which is better than risking up to 2 years imprisonment & a £400 fine.
