Poison bottles contained anything toxic to people, such as strong cleaning solutions, not necessarily poison that killed things. Some bottles are embossed with 'Not to be taken' meaning - do not ingest. The bottles were also brightly coloured and had ribbed or studded sides - so if you were a Victorian stumbling around in the dark you could feel which bottle had dangerous chemicals in. To see another rare and unusual poison bottle I found click here czcams.com/video/gLnc4-nZ9aM/video.html
I hadn’t seen that one! That poison bottle was amazing! Don’t ever sell that one,(unless you get a crazy big offer!! 😀)
How best do you clean your bottles Si?
I feel like the colour and patterns on the bottles were also aimed at people who couldn’t read, not just for those fumbling in the dark. Also blind people would have been able to identify them by the ribs, crosshatches, and studs.
@@suetaylor5186 We have a small dump at the corner of our property .. for the bottles I find in there, I use warm water and denture cleaning tablets (smashed up a bit for the narrow necks).
Si do you ever find any stone arrowheads or the like?
Amazes me every time that after more than one hundred years we find someone else's "rubbish" so fascinating. Beautiful snippets of history thanks for the video.
A Sunday without SiFinds isn’t worth getting out of bed for. Happy days Si.
Good day to you too Rosemarie! 👍🏻🐾🧡
having worked in a glass factory that made bottles and jars, they add metals and minerals to get glass to different colors. No dyes
Cobalt for deep blue, gold for red (at least in the old days). Manganese for purple and Chromium for dark greens to black. That just the beginning...
that is quality info ! thanks
Excellent information....and Orange, amber and yellow glass? X fee
@@Fees-Shed sulphur and Cadmium will make yellow and ambers. There is no true orange. It's a shade of amber
But what made the milk glass white?
@@pit_stop77 tin , arsenic & antimony make milk glass
Ooh that frank coopers marmalade jar Kev found is a stunner!
The milk glass bottle is interesting. I've never seen one, only jars. Good hunt guys.
Thanks Maureen 👍🏻🐾🧡
I've only seen one other here in the states. It was embossed with MAGNOLIA BALM . Most are jars or apothecary type bottles
Its quite evident from the beginning , he knows his bottles .Great watch .
All great finds but OMG that Lysol bottle!!!
My Lord, great bottles with little or no chipping. You have some that I never had seen before. 👍💞
Thanks pal! 👍🏻🐾🧡
Your mate Kev was the winner today for sure, that seville marmalade and lysol @29:40 were beauties to find. Good stuff.
Absolutely!
Love it when you are with Tim and Kev, I feel as though I'm along with you all! Some great finds in the Muck.
Tim's predictive knowledge blows me away. Is there anything he doesn't know? Awesome finds, as always. xoxo
He’s a veteran in the hobby 🧡
That's got to be one of the best bottle dumps so far ! What amazing finds ! Thanks for sharing .
Thanks Elaine!
That Milk glass bottle was very nice to find. Never knew there were milk glass bottles, only knew about the jars lol. Well I have learned something today 😂 Thank you
No worries Ad! Glad you enjoyed mate
Nothing is as beautiful as old bottles, and you fellows found some beauties!💖
Loved the curious horses at the end. I was detecting and on my knees digging a hole in an English pasture and when I looked up, three horses were also looking in my hole.
Timeless beauty in what were ordinary, everyday objects. I can only imagine the anticipation you feel as you unearth each piece. The backstory on the Balsam was quite interesting. It's shocking what people in their pursuit of profit, were willing to do and saddening what people in their desperation were willing to accept. Perhaps things never really change. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Until next time. Much love.
Yes they say necessity is the mother of invention, but in this case there was a market of illness being takin advantage of 😔
I love going on these adventures with you and your friends. Lots of beautiful finds. If I were there y'all would have had to dragged me out of there! Keep up the good work Si. 😘
Thanks Martha
Martha I was going to say the same thing!!
Tim is astounding! Wow, his knowledge is extensive!
That wine carafe is gorgeous.
Right!
its a stunner !
It came out whole too... Great find with all that decoration on...
What a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Get some friends together and go digging for bottles and treasures. Great finds. 👍💞
Lovely, lovely video.
Awesome site, beautiful objects + knowledgable chaps. Quality.
Hey Si, I really enjoyed this video. There is something so satisfying in exposing a lovely bottle from a clod of mud! Good one! Take care.😀
Cheers Lynne! 👍🏻🐾🧡
Fantastic finds, I think Kevs huge smile at his favourite find says it all.
I love how you guys swap and gift the finds to each other. So lovely in this day and age , esp in such crap times as we are in right now. Restores your faith in your fellow man x
Quite the bottle dump permission 😲🙌🏻🙌🏻!!!! You gents probably could have spent DAYS digging out lots of treasure 😉. 🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Way to go Kev.!!!! Great beauty in the the Lysol bottle, never seen another on any mudlarking channels. Those raised side decorations will really ✨ sparkle ✨ on a shelf in the sunshine 🌞. 😊🤗🤭😘
Yes it’s a stunner considering it’s bland contents. Lol
How nice yall sharing the finds too
was an amazing give by Tim to Kev !
The antique bottles put the modern plastic ones to shame! Such pretty colors and embossing. Thanks ever so much for sharing your adventures.
I agree! 👍🏻🐾🧡
I just can't believe that in England, you can go to places that you'd never think had " Treasure" in it until you start to dig and out pops these beautiful bottles and containers. The wine container that was found at the very end is so beautifully shaped and surprise!! A beautiful design on the glass as well!!!😍😍😍
What great finds Si!! How long did it take the spot on your face to go down? It looked sore.
Thanks for another great video Si!!😍😍
You should let your friend know about the wonderful bottle paintings done by Sarah (partner of dirty secrets of Scotland channel). Sarah did an amazing painting of a Lysol Bottle, as well as a green and a blue “poison” bottle. I’m not sure if she does the bottle images on her channel, but Willie definitely shows her drawing the Lysol bottle on his channel.
A great gift for your Lysol collecting friend Tim, would be a print of the nobly Lysol bottle from Sarah’s Etsy store - She Walks She Paints.
🙂🐿🌈❤️
As I've seen a few times, it's very hard to leave when the finds are coming thick & fast! LOL Very good day for you three. Well done.
MPS was founded in 1892, with just 13 original members all practising in the home counties of England. Medical Protection Society. Love watching your videos!
Love the moss and holly shots.
Thanks!
Well done! Tim is the bottle hound, he knows his bottles. What a spot.
Spot on 👍🏻
Absolutely brilliant video. There's nothing better than watching those bottles coming out from the mud. The not knowing and the reveal is a nice feeling. The wine bottle is stunning.
Thanks!
I clean bottles with rice which scrapes the dirt off without scratching the glass. Half fill with warm soapy water, add a teaspoon of uncooked rice and shake well. Rinse in clean water. For stubborn muck, fill with hot water to the neck, add a denture tablet and leave for couple of hours then rinse. I know you probably have your own ways Si, but if they don't work then try these.
It's great how you say 'laaavely' 👍 up north we say luvely. 😆
So many pretty colours ❤️😍❤️ You have to go back here again Si, just imagine what's still hidden beneath the mud! Ps. You still look gorgeous even with stings all over your face 😘
Aw thanks Beth!
Love when you three dig dumps. Each brings a personal element, and you help each other. Think Kev won the day with his finds.
Si, you find the best bottles in the muck. My brother and I used to dig bottles out of the river muck in my father's yard here in Florida. He has all the large ones and I have the tiny ones. Thanks Si, have a wonderful week.
Awesome. Then you understand the buzz you get!
I must say it, this episode is a real bottler!

Great to watch u guys digging old tips brings back good and bad memories.....must be about 25yrs since I last dug..strange I've been Cleaning my out my garage and found 2 crates full of bottles that I never cleaned..lol
What at great Si Finds and Mates bottle vid! I think the clean up is the best part of bottle digging,,,,,,if you find some neat things! My Great Grandfather was an Irishman and liked his nips. My Grandfather told me he loved his Paines Celery Compound medicine that came in a nice square Amber bottle. I was told their attic was full of these bottles. I don't have an original but o do have an old one that I gave to my Grandfather and came back to me. Paines Compound was 70% alcohol so you can see how it really healed people, eh? Thanks Kindly Simon, some really great finds! It might be that the decanteriththe grapes was for vinaigrette or oil because of its size. Wine decanter usually held a wine bottles worth, this is what I've been told by me mentor who lived from 1889-1981. My Grandfather lived from 1892-1989. This is what I need, a good early bottle dump. DaveyJO in Pa.
Cheers DJ! Yeah could be - i reckon you could get a bottle if wine in that, it was very bulbous
