Chevy Camper Can’t Move! Jeep Does The Work!

- We got a call for a Chevy 2500 with a slide in camper, that was stuck in the mud on the Smithsonian Butte Road near the Gooseberry Mesa turn off.
It is been about 155 days since our last rainstorm. I was hoping I hadn’t forgotten everything I need to know about mud recovery. LOL
We found of the truck about a quarter-mile past the gooseberry turn off, and we tried to decide if turning it around and pulling it up forwards was a better plan, or if we should just hook on and pull it up backwards.
After a little thought, we decided to pull it backwards.
It was going to be tricky because the road had quite a bit of crown on it, and deep ditches on both sides. And this mud is like driving on marbles.
Things were going very well until about halfway up, when the truck decided to slide into the ditch.
We had to get a little creative with our angles so we could get in position to use our Yankum Rope.
After pulling the truck back to the center of the road, we were able to continue up to the steepest part. The going got really slow, but we were able to slowly claw our way to the top.

Props to the camera man who, in 6" of mud, runs along side the jeep in the dark and rain and doesn't miss a scene.
For real!
No breathing filming, steam/fog gets in the way of the lens....keep running tho.
Thick sagebrush to one side, possibility of getting crushed by that truck on the other, narrow lane between to do superhuman cinematography!
Missed how that chevy ended up in the ditch after the first pull....
@@joshr2720 just due to the grease on the road.
I would really love to see the thoughts of people when Matt drives up in a Jeep Cherokee. Guarantee they're thinkin', "This is never gonna work". Then they spend a week trying to figure out how it did.
There's been a few who have voiced it. Somewhat disrespectful to call someone for help then question them.
People often take rain for granted. Not us desert folks. Rain is always a blessing no matter how miserable. Can’t wait til Spring to see how beautiful is is there when everything blooms.
Desert Viking Adventures
Yes, rainy days are the nicest and most fun!
Agent. K. It doesn’t rain a whole lot where I’m from. When it does it’s like being reborn. It’s amazing.
That is what its like here in Phoenix. I posted this weather report in a work chat recently:
Its raining here today.
Well, sort of.
Its the fake Arizona rain where you dont really see any drops but you notice the ground is damp and windshield is blurry.
It did the same thing last night when i drove through McDonalds. When I got to the pay window, I was pretty excited about it and while pumping my eyebrows up and down, I said to the cashier, "Hey check it out, I am running my windshield wipers!"
Much like their TV ad where they brag that a worker received scholarship funding, the crew all stopped work for a moment and gathered around the pay window and clapped for me. I was very proud.
libertyauto I have family in Tucson so I know what you mean!
Hey,i want to see it all, everything, washing vehicles, vehicle maintenance, and i love the family outing atmosphere that is naturally there in your recovery videos, this is good stuff MATT,thanks for taking me along thru the video.
I agree ... that Jeep was not only pulling out a Chevy ... he had a ton of fans that were in that Jeep and he pulled us along for the ride :)
@@karenmarieh.j.3842 I think he was also pulling an extra ton of mud! Brilliant video.
@@Ken-mu3dc You are right. This looked like the toughest rescue yet.. For a minute I thought I could hear the corporate boardrooms of Mercedes, Land Rover, and Toyota rooting for the mud to stop Matt and his Jeep. Crap a few times I could feel myself wanting to change U.S.A....U.S.A...U.S.A. !!! as he pulled through :)
@@karenmarieh.j.3842 Hey Karen I know what you mean. I'm a Land Rover man myself and live in the UK but Matt and the yellow banana are awesome and
I don't think anything could stop that Jeep.
Awesome camera work! These are about the worst conditions for filming... Raining and dark. Keep up the great work in all that you do!
I was thinking the same thing with the weather conditions. ☔
I was thinking at any point the camera is going to go down into the mud because the cameraman slips
Dont give him complements
That will make him lazy.
I stop watching his videos a long time ago. I stopped after seeing the first one. I didnot see this one either.
When mud is slippery but good base. .you can slide tires in any direction.
Meaning slid that sucker around where it stands. .
Dont you hate it when someone interupts your thinking to ask some stupid Question.
skipper skipper Holy crap, Who pee’d into your butthole.
This is a side hobby for him and he can be as lazy or as committed as he chooses to be.
His videos are fine.
Looks like that yellow banana got dipped in some chocolate.

There's always money in the banana stand Micheal!
Matt is the like the postman; ..neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor mud, even the dark of night will keep Matt from his appointed rounds. Great show.
I love the way those inline 6s sound when they hit the rev limiter, makes me really miss my old xj. That thing lived most of its life bouncing off the rev limiter.
Just wonder how many miles Matt put on the Banana going that quarter mile?
Makes me sad Jeep stoped making them as rugged as they used to be. The new ones are crossovers basically, more car than an offroad vehicle.
Good video. Mud recoveries are a mess. Tim and Randy did a good job. At night and in the rain, and we were still able to see pretty good.
Thanks for the videos.
Re-watching many years later, and for some reason, it just dawned on me, that Utah drivers on these muddy/snowy/what-have-you roads, are SUPER patient, no horns, no one trying to maneuver around, they just wait until the block is cleared, and go about their merry way - not just this video, but countless others that I have watched. In California, it would be Armageddon, without a doubt.
Value of car wash ~$5 Value of the looks of the owner of the car wash when he sees you pulling in...priceless!
Matt the simplicity and your laid back personality is what works for your videos, keep up the good work and keep the videos coming!
Nonsense, needs a bunch of interposed images, 1930s radio sound effects and Pop music clips. Who wants to listen to the rain and a boring jeep engine.
@@anonymousanonymous8306 sarcasm?
@@anonymousanonymous8306 Well that's an easy one, there's such a thing as don't click on the video if you do not like what you see, umm duh . . .

@@anonymousanonymous8306 My bad brotha just got out of the hospital and am a little "medicated". I really enjoy Matt's channel and thought you were dumpin on the brother?! Agreed to your comment on internet preening jackwagons as well, lol!
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!!!
The video starts off like a boss. That jeep has balls
SonOfPatriots The Jeep XJ is a easy build. All you need is a Ford 8.8 rear and old wagoner front axle .
@@troypatterson4861 I would definitely love to have one. Looks fun
What has my life become.... I enjoy watching you guys pull cars out of the mud, ditch and, everywhere
Videos are so fun and relaxing to watch at work, restaurant, anywhere. Thanks Matt and team!
Street tires Jesus on that Chevy. That Jeep is a beast in beast mode.
Yeah, I noticed that too. Might as well have had drag slicks on that thing.
@@W7DSY everything turns to slicks in that mud. Notice how the back of the camper was hardly muddy at the end of the recovery? The recovery vehicle had a MT tire on, but the mud is so sticky, it fills the void of any mud tire, and the mud does not get ejected. In a less sticky type of mud, the back of the camper would have been totally plastered from mud being flung off of the tires on the recovery vehicle.
@@RyanRKJ good point
@die warlock Mother got me mud chains, best gift I've ever got. ✌
Wrong vehicle setup wrong time! Especially wrong tires wow!
Thank you for all the videos! We get stuck in the mud a lot and so I learn something every time I watch. The sawing back and forth with the front tires is invaluable
I find it amazing that so many people think those road hazard warning signs are suggestions. While out west, I turned around from numerous trails because I took those warning signs seriously. I also understood that my 4WD diesel while having LT tires, it is still a highway tire.
Carry snow chains.
It is good to see that you understand the importance of tires. I also have a 4X4 diesel and I run BFG K02 tires. Good on the highway, excellent of road and real difficult to puncture.
I am actually getting ready to replace my factory General Grabbers with the Falcon Wildpeak AT3. They are hard to find though and the BFG is next in line simply because Costco has a good deal on them.
I can watch these videos all day, I truly believe this guy can say he loves his job. This is just pure entertainment. Its depressing how people think because they have a 4x4 badge on their truck, they can go anywhere. Tires people it's all about tires.
Tires and lockers
Could snow chains on road tires help?
I have got the advise before, but never tried it.
@@simonsms410 ,Yes it's a big help but if it's soft for a long way down to firmer ground you will finish up with the wheels turning with no grip under them . =truck just sitting on top of a mound of mud then you really are stuck .
These roads are easily passable when dry, so a lot of people drive in when it is dry, but then rain stops them from getting home. Also, this clay mud packs the tread of any MT tire. Notice how the Jeep's MTs hardly through any mud at the back of the camper?
I knew when you put "this seems to be going pretty well." I was like oh no something is about to make this worse. 😂
It would have been good if you put the "benny hill" music on when you were trying to get off the road.
Famous last words right 😂🤣 😜
Thomas Slaughter , hello, that tune is “YACKETY, SAX”, by BOOTS RANDOLPH, , BENNY HILL, was a favourite of mine when they carried here in USA, I have 3 videos of him, Cheers From NJUSA🇬🇧🇺🇸
Don't you just love playing in the Mud thats how it is over here in the UK , back in my days i had RB44 Reynolds Boughton 4x4 Renault Dodge ex-army it had 30ft boom , spec , and the best of all 300 ft of cable on one big spool drum , drop down legs , it was rated as at 13 ton but being ex-amy you can double that and then some max speed was 60 mph down hill loll good memories .
Sounds like fun
Being ex army that rating was probably doubled at least once during its military life...when the "customer" is some cranky RSM telling you to "bring that vehicle back,or I'll have your balls for breakfast", you do what must be done...
Very true
Your camera crew must be in helluva good shape with all the running they do in mud, snow, rain, whatever the conditions are out there. Kudos to them!
That Cherokee takes so much hard use, and keeps coming back for more. Matt should go into the low buck, bulletproof Jeep building business
But XJ's prices ain't gonna stay low with these videos being so popular!
I can’t believe how addictive your videos are! Yet another one displaying your impressive equipment and talent. You guys sure make me miss my teenage years of 4 wheeling in the early 80’s. 😞 Some places we went, the mud was so thick a garden hose couldn’t spray it off and we’d use a car wash. Eventually, the car wash put up a sign restricting us because they were having to have their drains cleared periodically from the mud. It never even occurred to me. I don’t think you do it frequently enough to be an issue, but just giving you something to consider.
My local carwash has a sign about not washing muddy vehicles as well.
Really is the little Jeep that could and great driving skill as well
Way too go bronco MATT. YOU RIDE THEM ALL OVER THIS PLACE. Thanks for sharing this recovery with us today.
Sliding around looks fun, and it usually is; however, there can be many hidden dangers... Especially in hillsides near cliffs and such. One never knows when an attempt to make things better can go south real quick. That was a fun video, thank you guys!
This channel is on it's way to be the best in off-road recovery entertainment
You were right, look at it now.
man, this channel might just be the best jeep cherokee commercial ever.
That thing is incredible!
Makes me want to get one asap.
Bear in mind he's running SJ axles and he's built his own suspension. This isn't exactly an off-the-shelf XJ.
I know right? I've got a16 Power Wagon and I've never owned nor ever been interested in a Jeep before, but now i just keep thinking about getting a cheapo xj and beefing it up like Matt's done because man, with some frame stiffining and some heavier suspension and axles, that rig evidently can handle some serious playing around concerning the engine and transmission.
Slime mess. That’s what we deal with here the most. Good job.
Man that jeep is a workhorse!
Matt's words to live by: we figured it out. Matt, there's nobody in the recovery business as good as you.👍 Another fun video to watch. Mostly because it wasn't me who was stuck.😄✌
I wouldnt mind seeing the jeep being washed off. Its kinda satisfying!
r/oddlysatisfying
I love how this channel is adapting and improving for the fans. First a custom built desktop that Matt may or may not knows how to use, 😁 More camera angles including drone shots, Ed even learned that skill 😁. And my favorite improvement is a clean windshield during night extraction on the way to the customer 😂😂😂.
Hi Matt, your driving skills and your Jeep are outstanding, Thank you for sharing your videos.
I don’t mind watching the crew wash the jeeps, it’s part of equipment upkeep..that and I could watch work all day..
Man, looking at that slick mud makes me think I'm back in the Adirondacks dealing with the clay like mud...lol
One thing I used to use on my old 66 bronco was snow chains on the tires, and it gave me the extra traction I needed. I don't know if that would work out there, but maybe worth a test some day?
Keep up the awesome work guys! Love the videos!
This video was so freaking awesome.... that clay really turns that road in to a giant slip n slide. The bunny hop over the edge of the road was the best. 👍....!
You will never tell us how much you charge for such an extraction but what ever the charge , you deserve every penny.
I am surprised that the Jeep takes the abuses.
I know others have said it before but, that yellow jeep is a beast! With the lights was able to see everything real good, thanks.
That was awesome watching the jeep go bouncing off the trail like it's no big deal lol
Man a combination of the right driver with these xjs is crazy how good they work. Loving the vids.
🎶 I never would've made it through the Utah mud if I hadn't been driven the Yellow Banana Stud! 🎵🎶
😁😂🤣😂
Yeeeehaw!
Great video!
Keep'em coming!
Thx 4 re-posting all the 2yr old video I missed before following you
Oh heck ya! Mud season baby! I clicked the like button so fast on this one. Great job documenting a mud recovery on a dark, rainy night.
That was a good recovery. As always, thanks for sharing Matt and crew! I alway look forward to my alerts from this channel!
Those Cherokees are awesome. I am amazed every video at what you get done with it. I laugh a little every time I see a lifted 8000 lb diesel truck with mud tires and lights, knowing it cant do what your Jeep does.
There's something so wholesome about these videos. I hope to one day get stuck within your service area Matt! Keep up the awesome work!!
This looks like too much fun. Love your Jeep recovery videos
Your skill and confidence in your equipment is just so impressive. I really enjoys these videos.
Matt, you are the definition of perseverance!
Gotta give ya credit that yellow banana with its operator sure is impressive. 🇺🇸
Awesome job but yall need an m18 milwaukee lantern for filming at night.... Ive had mine for years. Its the bomb diggidy.
Crew and Jeep did such a great job👍👍👍👍👍
Great job Rudy!
These videos are awesome! I find that offroad recoveries are always different, no two are the same.
Matt's off road recovery team , has got it going on 👁️👍👁️👍👁️👍👁️👍👁️👍👁️👍
Yep yep, that mud never sprays off any easier than when it's still dripping wet. Lol. Never owned a Jeep in my life, currently have a Power Wagon, but after seeing the home made mods you've done to the Banana, and how well that machine works, I'm salivating at a few 01's I'm seeing listed on my local CL! Wife is giving me some looks now 👀 Thanks a lot Matt! Lol
Makes my morning thank you very much!!!
I got hooked on your videos a few weeks ago. really enjoy watching you "Work The Problem" you make it look easy.
Knowledge, experience and a tool that works! Awesome!!!
Absolutely love this channel. I can sit here and watch it all day! Keep it up guys!!
Totally fine with footage of cleaning the banana! That's part of it and she always deserves it, she treats you and the team very, very well!!
Love all the videos! I like every one that I watch so it's easy for me to tell if I watched it already 👍🏻
Impressive, that was some slick surface.
That was an awesome recovery. That mud was killer for vehicles without mud tires. Great job Winder crew!!
Wow Matt, those new tires are worth every penny. Doing everything you need them too so far.
Awesome awesome job. One of your tips saved me from getting stuck im glad i came across your channel. Love yall
Again, UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Thanks Matt!
The reason why most of us cannot get ourselves unstuck is because when we only make inch by inch progress we feel it’s not enough and we give up and stop and call People like Matt. They come and make inch by inch progress, don’t give up and an inch turns into enough so that we can drive ourselves out. Matt doesn’t give up! He keeps going until the job is done because if he can’t do it then no one can.
I must have missed this one ,,,, Loved the embankment climb ,, Matt is awesome! Banana is awesome
That Jeep is INCREDIBLE!!! Great camera work too.
Oh the mud memories 😂😂😂😂😂 good job guys as always be safe
I just discovered your channel and even though it's a year after it was posted, I was at the edge of my seat when you were trying to get over that edge. It was like a football game waiting for the touchdown lmfao. Awesome video!
Aw man! Got the rope muddy! Thats EXTRA! Great Job!
geez that mud is like ICE wooW! great move!
I thought I had seen all of MORR videos and then I can across this gem.
Hey, it was satisfying to watch you wash the mud off the jeep and even the boots! a great epilog!
Thanks for giving me a archived video to watch
👌😎👍
Man, that was a hard working Jeep. Thanks for capturing the effort to pull out of the mud.
Reminds me of our Georgia Red Clay; slipperiest stuff on earth when it get a little wet, cannot even stand up or walk on the stuff without falling down! Great video and camera work!
Bravo, Bravo, Bravissimo!!! Truly a cinematography achievement and off road recovery success. See you at the Oscar's.
This beats the Towing shows on the Weather channel, hands down!
Awesome channel! Can't stop watching the fun situations folk get themselves in. I wish I knew of a similar service out here in the areas we go north east of California City.
The terrain and views has me wanting to head your way soon! Hopefully I don't have to call you 😉
The torque on that engine must be amazing...:-)
think Matt needs some flood lights on the back of his jeep
Yes sir! Would make life easier. Either tied into the reverse lights, or on a switch. Maybe both? Two tied into the reverse lights, two more on a switch?
May be illegal since it’s not an official tow truck
I've commented on a couple of other videos on this channel but this is an awesome channel. Great videos, nice group of people and very professional. Awesome!
Wow the mud there is like the worst possible composition. Great job.
Loving the new wide angle vid! Keep em coming!
He had a camper, he should have camped out for a day and it would have been dry.

Holy crow that mud looked like grease! Eight wheels turning to get minimal headway but with your expertise and of course the Banana--SUCCESSES! 👍👍 You two are the best. Be safe out there and have a great Thanksgiving with you family.
