Everybody fished and traveled through the SCS.
It would be like Italy claiming 90% of the Mediterranean Sea as a legacy of the Roman Empire.
Fun Fact: there are no islands in the SCS that were settled and developed by any nation.

You are correct. South China Seas is international waters and those islands are too small to support life. I think the 1982 UNCLOS has actually caused the conflict because now the Chinese can’t fish anymore in most of the South China Seas and there is also oil and gas reserves that countries are fighting for.

china is extremely applying maximum tolerance to all SEA nations. the US needs to now fulfill its long term plan to engage china since it was conceived in the 1950's hence it maintained its military bases in japan, south korea, taiwan, and now returning to the philippines. it spent a lot of anti china propaganda and forcing escalation of all conflicts against china to get its goal of war with china as it can no longer catch up with the economic progress and competence of china.

China is a huge land mass with only a small strip of sea along the South China Sea as compared to countries like Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines which have the vast Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean on their opposite side which means any enemy approach on their land from these oceans, they have more distance to react. Unlike China, if any enemy approach from the South China Sea, the enemy can easily reach their shores in no time if China is not careful or alert. More outreach to the South China Sea would be better protection for their southern region. I see Vietnam in similar light.

What a stupid video. China doesn’t “Want” the Sth China sea, it is there for everyone to use. It is the main trade route in and out of China. If China stops shipping it strangles its economy, so America saying they are there to keep the SCS open for shipping is nonsense, China is not closing it and has never impeded shipping. I saw a debate where some journalist hack implied that China was impeding shipping in the SCS. The Chinese said China had never done that and challenged this journalist to give him one example. He couldn’t

But historical ownership also can change hands. If you have owned a property for many years, you may not own it as soon as you give your property to a new owner, such as China gave its land to Russia.

China interest is not root history connection but expectation rich resources in that area. Even before Philippine become independent out from colonizer in 1945 our fishermen reach more than disputes islands almost in vietnam sea boundary and almost in Taiwan too but the China never regular claim nor send battleahip patrolling the trade route there engagement in world back in Deng Xiaping Economic Reformation in the 80s! Then China become economic success in the 90s then in military in 20 century then they BEGIN TO OCCUPY THE SO NAME SOUTH CHINA SEA.
China recognize and member of UN so laws need to acknowledge by China. There excuse "no intervention by other country like U.S." But China clever intervene other countries pro China by means of military armament send it.

We Chinese have been in the region of The South China Sea for thousand of years, there are more than 400 million people of Chinese origin living in Vietnam, Malaysia, Phillipines, Indonesia etc. Not to speak on Taiwan which is a province of China. All the islands in The South China Sea were discovered by us Chinese thousand of years back in history. The 7 dash lines made by the Nationalist China under my granduncle, general Chiang Kai Shek in 1947 are the evidence and something that is internationally recognized, and it is also the reason why the whole sea region is called The South China Sea. The New China has recently legally marked this region with her 9 dashlines, instead of the previous 7 dashlines. This region of sea is still called The South China Sea, so your guys stop arguing that this regian does not belong to China !!!
