Despite what has been said by someone here in the past, coil springs are not going away. We have seen several filters on this channel in the last 3 months that have them. In this comparison, it looks like the Purolator has a slight edge with less excess glue and more filter media. Personally I would step up to the Purolator One over the Tech.

I bought a CarQuest Red filter a few weeks ago and it was identical to the Purolator Tech here. Probably made at the same factory overseas. Thanks for opening it up so I could see what they put inside of it. I wonder why we can't build a simple oil filter here in North America and have to rely on overseas for such simple products.

Used the Purolator tech on my daughters civic. $2.40 on Amazon. That absolutely cannot be beat!
Nice to see Purolator still making a quality filter. Minimal excess glue and evenly spaced pleats. Sadly Baldwin seems to be slipping in the past few years in quality control. I;ve used them almost exclusively in my outdoor power equipment but I am not sure I want to anymore. I can get Donaldson filters for the same money, I think I may look into that for next season.

I will give it to the Purolator because of the glue slop of the, once again, american made filter under the brand name of Baldwin. I really wish we were cared more about quality during assembly.

You're doing the community a service as usual, thanks. Both are basic jobber filters. For a buck or two more on Rock Auto you can get better filters. It's not even worth putting in the ADBV if it's nitrile. They hardly seal when new, if at all and they turn hard as plastic after 3,000 miles. Vertically mounted, it doesn't matter but horizontally, it drains within seconds every time. It seems anything owned by Mann-Hummel, whether made in the US, China, India, or anywhere else all have quality issues. This one at least having somewhat even pleats, they were crooked and there was excess glue on that top end cap. Both of these have got quality issues and/or just poor media so I won't just pick on the Tech. I did have a Tech from a car that the media had a big tear in and it was one of the US made filters. If I had to run either of these, it would probably be the Purolator though.

Baldwin should rename that filter "Sloppy Joe" because of all that glue!
They produce in Prisons I have heard
Tech filter a Purolator in name only. Made in India with a coil compression spring, most likely by M&H Wix. Worth $2.40 but I prefer US made like TL14610 I recently purchased. Baldwin 45 absolute, (98.7) 99% @ 45 microns, not very efficient. So, between the two, take the Puro Tech, but prefer US made Tech, which seem to be same efficiency as Puro classic Red. Haven't seen a P1 for "a few bucks more" for a quite a while. They are in the $10-ish range. Agree it is a better filter, but really comparing apples and oranges. Topic is a jobber used in shops.
I hate going into my local parts store and when I'm looking at filters the sales person gives me their spill of which one they'd buy and why. Now imagine being whip city wrencher and having the same experience

Surprised that a made in India oil filter better then USA made oil filter. Too much excess glue on Baldwin. Also Puramator has more filter media.

If Mann and Hummel had any brains, they would make those filters in Canada. Our dollar is -30% lower then the US dollar and we can manufacture them to US Specs or even better standards.
They sah Made in India but I have heard they come from Pakistan
The 2009 Scion TC takes these numbers. In purolator parts finder they no longer show the TL14477 so I guess this is NOS filter?
I don't know why but I think Amazon is the only place that sells these Purolator Tech oil filters.
Have you come across filters that are the same brand and part number, but made in two different countries?
It's hard to find two of the same oil filters made in different countries because when ordering them online they don't let you know where they are made., and most; of them would be made at different times. Purolator makes a very high quality product. It’s sad they seek foreign labor but now laborers who can barely stand upright demand $15+ skilled labor $35+ I grew up in USA and while I like to see made in America I would not pay $20+ Per oil filter to have the same quality but made in America and world then source affordable consumption parts would you pay an inflated price? Don’t lie.

I see these you tube videos of oil filters being made in dirty facilities with child labor and maybe they have a nice new full blown factory there who knows. It wouldn't hurt for them to show their facilities here and there as they should be proud of all of their factories.
@@urbanws1234 it's not Purolator US seeking foreign labor, it's owner Mann&Hummel who has factories all over the world. In this case since M&H also owns Wix, could likely be a Wix made filter in India or an M&H plant. Margins on filters likely very small, so owners look for cost savings anywhere. Mann also has factories for filters in China too.

I appreciate American produced products but I do have a certain amount of sympathy for manufacturers here in the USA. It’s never been more difficult to find people who are willing to work for a living here in the States especially post- lockdown. Many young Americans who have absolutely no skills or trade they’ve learned think they are worthy of top pay . Just last week a young kid of one of my coworkers turned down a 120K a year job driving a truck because it would’ve required him to work late two days a week. This kid has only been out of high school for three years and only has a few years of experience driving and he turned it down because he didn’t want to have to work late two days a week. He’s not married and has no children.
Toyota is building a huge factory here and they offer pay and benefits above all other manufacturing jobs in our area and they are having difficulty finding enough applicants to fill the jobs at that factory.
Before manufacturing jobs return to the United States there’s going to have to be a revival of a good work ethic among younger people. We’re in a mess.
Good video as always. I would pick the Purolator mainly for the better filter media and the center core with plenty of holes for oil flow. A little surprised to see the Purolator is made in India. That is the first filter from a major brand that I have seen made in India. When these big companies like Mann Hummel take over they seem to farm out their lower priced filters overseas. If you search the internet on filters made in India and Kashmir you would be surprised how they are made and the conditions under which they are made. A lot of manual labor with children and not very clean surroundings with antiquated ovens to cure the adhesive. It looked like more dirt was added to the filters during manufacture, than they would filter in your engine when you view these videos. Not sure if Mann Hummel uses one of these generic companies in India for the Purolator Tech filter. Maybe that is the reason you can't find any data on the filtering media. There is also a generic Chinese company that makes filters for other companies but their operation is much more modern and cleaner. You can also see their video online also.
Mann & Hummel actually has its own state of the art oil filter manufacturing facilities in India and has been producing oil filters there since 2005. That same Mann & Hummel facility also produces oil filter for Bosch and produce the OEM oil filters for automotive manufacturers supply chain in that part of the world such as Suzuki and Tata motors.

I might be wrong but I dont think RockAuto sells the Purolator Tech oil filters.
@@WhipCityWrencher I got them in August on a closeout sale. Fer my 99 Durango. I do not think they have them anymore.
I just checked and they have the same numbers V195 fer2.18 or number tl14970 which is labeled as purolator classic also fer 2.18. So I am not sure what the difference between those and the tech are. Next rock auto order I will order them and see

I really wonder why the filter media on the tech filters are inconsistent or maybe it's the different materials used depending on region China/India! The India made definitely looks better than the China one

The Purolator looks 'basically' OK, but does not filter well, and too much loose glue. Baldwin, forget it.
I should send Whip City Wrencher my used "PIAA oil filter [Twin Power + magnet] Z8-M" to open up "on the air" in a few months when I'm done with it. That filter has some cool features, 2 filters inside, big ring-magnet inside, extremely clean construction. Different, unique.
Although the now-extinct Lee Two-stage MaxiFilter did something similar 50 years ago. !!!
That red Baldwin filter is as sloppy & horrible as Alex Baldwin with a gun 🔫, probably kill your engine dead too with all that glue
