      Hi Dan
      You're Welcome, Thanks for the old Wix filter!👍

    The late 1900s made me feel old, for some reason.

    Late '70's to early '80's design. I used a lot of these then. Just about any modern filter is going to be miles ahead of these old ones. Cellulose has largely been replaced by either blended or synthetic media. In spite of the occasional 'quality' issues most of the major brand oil filters are all pretty well made.

    My parents had a 1979 Ford Granada that looked exactly like that. Same color tan also with tan interior. Also, the Mercury Monarchs looked like that too, which my parents had a white with white interior.

    A lot of positive changes between the new filter and the old one.

    That Ford Granada on the box is a 78-80 model. Granada went from round to rectangular headlights in 78.

    So nice of Dan. I usually like older vs newer but I would go with the newer this time. Nice sharing Pete, thanks. 👍 Have a great weekend! Merri :)

    Thanks for the comparison. I don't buy oil filters if they have the "Cheese Grater" holes in the center tubes. Only the round holes. Less pressure drop with the round holes? Take care all.

    Sometimes as applications age out they'll supersede or cross over applications for consolidation. Even though that new filter may not have the capacity of the old one, it's a better filter. You wouldn't believe the programs they have that track the sales and usage of every part number each quarter or year. They consolidate wherever they can or need to if a number starts slipping in sales to save costs. Those ends of the caps that hold the glue are called the wells. That old filter was 3 or 4 owners ago for Wix.

    Pete,
    Nice video! Appears to me that WIX made a good filter back then as they do today. The box art with the Ford LTD and Chevy truck is cool. I believe the LTD on the box is a 1979 or 80. Have a nice weekend!

    I like the materials of the newer filter but I like the construction of the older one. And I think one poster is correct, mid to late 70's for that filter and back then no filters had an ADBV. or bypass valves. The newer one is probably smaller because it is more efficient and today's newer engines carry less oil.This just tells me that if you have a classic car, you need to change the oil every 3K because of the smaller capacity of the newer filters.

    It is fun looking at vintage filters, and the box art is certainly cool on this one. I think the modern filter is far superior in every way and I think it would be less stress on the oil pump with high flowing core. By the box art, I would bet the old wix is not much newer than 1980.

    Too much loose glue on the new Wix. Others have better build quality. If no bypass valve, you just hope no glue is loose on the clean side of the filter at least, since the loose glue on the clean side can't get sucked down the missing bypass valve on this one. Most filters have bypass valves though!

    • @WhipCityWrencher
      @WhipCityWrencher  Před 11 měsíci +2

    Old Wix is bigger and New Wix is smaller. New Wix has better filter Media. No Choice now for somebody who has that car and oil filter has become smaller. Maybe Another Manufacturer still makes Big Oil Filter same size as Wix 51039 ? Like K&N or OEM oil filter.
