  • September 22, 1967: "Another bombing -- the tenth in recent months -- shattered Happy's Stork Lounge on the 79th Street Causeway early today, and though considerable damage was caused, the latest dynamiting followed tha pattern of its predecessors in that nobody was injured. Although the building took all of the bomb's abuse the real target, according to police, was Anthony "Big Tony" Esperti, a known hoodlum and extortionist, who was in the club with his girlfriends Audery Fowler."*
The blast blew holes in the back wall of Happy's concrete utility room. Although "Big Tony" Esperti's table was about twelve feet from the explosion, neither he or "any of the half-dozen-or-so customers" were injured. The explosion was in e of a series of gangland-ralted events that was earning North Bay Village a reputation as a lawless strip along the 79th Street Causeway.
WTVJ-4 reporter Ron Beasley covered the story, speaking to North Bay Village Police Chief Earl Mitchell, the owner of the bar and an unidentified police officer.
This story includes color and black and white footage. We don't have an explanation for this.

On 9/22/2022, just happened to watch this video. I entered the address on Goggle maps and the store is still there! Wonder who the owner is now.

That police chief seems very well informed about the "warning." I wonder if the cops want Asperti out of town.

I wish that Dean Martin's was still there. Alas, not even the building is still standing

The beginning of this clip is silent (the original 16mm film has no audio recorded). The sound portion starts about a minute in with the police interview.

      Ahh, yes ...
It was perhaps the fault of my device -
Sometimes it takes multiple tries with clicking on videos in CZcams to get the sound to work ...
      I don't know why that is ...
It happens often on my end ...
      Apologies!
