Even though Mr. Boss is made out to be the weird, creepy old guy, he's probably one of my favorites with how innocent and genuinely caring he is.
Lil theory with little evidence to back it: the little baby pet thing in the first episode is a mix of the boss's favorite employees, Pim and Charlie. Its got charlie's body and Pim's skin color. Hes trying to create the perfect smiling friend.

I like how Mr. Boss's voice actor literally just does whatever the hell he feels like in the moment. Sometimes he sounds a bit high pitched but mostly normal, and then with no explanation will drop to a deep southern drawl. The next scene he's speaking in an over embellished childlike tone, and in the Brazil episode on the phone he just sounds like a totally normal dude fumbling with his words.

I'm just now realizing that the whole movement at 4:58 -- where he pushes his way through the door and then limps forward with the rifle -- is a direct homage to Die Hard. Making it yet another Oneyplays / Sleepycabin reference.
Also, this is yet another reason why I fucking love this show.
So many in-jokes that would otherwise make no real sense to people who aren't familiar with the lore.

The thing is in most comedies the joke with this character would either be that nobody notices how creepy he is or that everyone is always getting traumatized but in this show the characters know what a weirdo he is, but still try to make do and I like that.
Definitely the best character
I like how his "Frowning Friend" counterpart is just another personality of his, and when it comes out to kill Grim, making someone sad (which goes against his main purpose for his job and life) he immediately makes a mental switch, not even freaking out and saying "dear God what have I become" he just rationally tries to calm Grim down, and even makes him smile.
Easily the most complex unit in this world of funny little characters
I think he cares more about money and the business then smiling or frowning. That's why he said "that's brilliant why didn't I think of that"

I love how he sometimes has 5 fingers and sometimes 4 fingers. Really shows how random the animation can be with their scenarios. It is like hellbenders plus oneyplays but an animation with a good story.

I like that when he says "WAIT!" at 2:14 he has 5 fingers instead of his usual 4. It could be a continuity error, but with the way this show is, I'll never know, could be just an intentional thing as well. I love that about this show
Edit: in fact I noticed that how many fingers he has is indeed inconsistent
