    Not sure if it's a thing of the current times or not, but I feel like people are lacking a lot of education in artistic appreciation
    I can say without hesitation that I LOVE EVERYTHING about MiA, even the controversial things.
    It's NOT meant to titillate, it's not blatant, it's not even close to being as problematic as a lot of other stuff in anime that currently passes as "Perfectly normal" and that are often played gratuitously and serve no purpose...whereas in MiA, even Prushka or Riko talking about penises serve a purpose in the plot.
    I also know the outrage has nothing to do with the violence the kids experience in the story, because we've seen COUNTLESS stories like that (though none quite as imaginative as MiA, imo), HxH comes to mind, where you can have Gon being beaten to a pulp or Hisoka being an open pedophile and nobody bats an eye.
    I don't even find the extra manga pages with children nipples to be all that problematic either, I mean, we all watched Shin-chan's naked penis on TV, yet nobody is cancelling the creator or even the citizen of Kasukabe that still profit from the famous character that resulted in their city becoming a famous landmark.
    So, it has to be ignorance or double standards. Couldn't care less either way, MiA is still a masterpiece.

    • @TheMickellPickell
      @TheMickellPickell  Před 7 měsíci +3

      Its without question, a lack of simple thought. The hive-mind that attacked these innocent people for liking a series are the types of people who take everything at face value. The fact they couldn't seem to discern fiction from non-fiction says a lot about how much thought they have actually given into their arguments.
      Its one thing to not support the story because of how it portrays certain things, but its another to proclaim enjoyers of that story as straight up criminals based on personal taste.

    There are actual kids who people should be helping instead of attacking fans of an anime. I honestly wonder if that article was written in bad faith just to get clicks.
    Also, in MIA when bad things happen to kids, it's often done to get the readers more invested in the characters (for example empathizing with Vueko's horrific past). So there is a narrative purpose. The author clearly knows it's F#$&ed up which is kind of the point. Otherwise he wouldn't get the same reaction from readers desensitized by the Internet and the BS of every day reality.

Every time "akihito-scenes" make themselves known in this franchise, they have always been quite tame and with both the narrative and the characters at the for-front of those moments. The gore aspect as well is done with proper reasoning. I'd argue the grotesque nature of the series is part of what makes the series so special. Dragonmaid, Eromanga sensei (like you said in the video), gushing over magical girls, kissxsis, redo of healer, Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo Suru, Kodomo no Jikan, papa to kiss in the dark. All of these are far worse then anything made in abyss has ever done and yet outside of dragon maid I rarely see anyone complain about them. 7:05 this segment goes really hard bc the article itself is extremely misleading and purposefully spreads misinformation, and yet people were very quick to jump to conclusions and throw SERIOUS accusations around based off of a sketchy source (I actually saw people saying their reaction was justified and they shouldn't bother reevaluating their hysteria based on RUMORS), manipulated screenshots that meant nothing and were there to promote a point of view (the context was the story behind vueko, which is strongly against what people were claiming, not to mention that the scene is not explicit at all, and they even included the subtitles in korean, but people didn't even bother to check what they were saying lol, i saw a gross amount of people talking abt this scene as if it was a straight up hentai), and the people behind this article went out of their way to put words in their mouths
    Woozi was talking about shows he watched (didn't even said he enjoyed 'em) recently during a world tour, Taeyong once went viral within the kpop niche bc he said live that he wouldn't even be friends with people younger than him bc he wouldn't feel comfortable if the age gap was too big, and Mingi NEVER said that MIA was one of his favorite animes, they didn't even include the video because the person talking to him was speaking over him while he was listing anime he liked/was watching, and later even edited out the bits that included her voice because she is an anonymous user, they literally pulled this out of their ass to make the idols look bad to impressionable people, this article is straight up a lie start to finish and yet people were so quick to turn against them and say awful things abt them 💀

      Blows my mind that when Akihito includes such a dark but story driven moment, people who don't understand his work just immediately dog pile on him. Like, he isn't condoning the assault committed onto Vueko, he's portraying a reality of a trauma victim and showcasing them slowly but surely coming out of their shell. The fact he is telling such a powerful and endearing story, only for randos on the internet to assume that his intentions are completely impure and that he's an advocate for that abuse is incredibly disgusting.
      Also the fact they went after people online for merely enjoying a series that tackles some upsetting and taboo things blows my mind. Not once, has this series enticed or endorsed anything remotely criminal, if anything its only ever told an endearing and empowering story. Its also a complete work of fiction...*its all made up...literally who cares whats in it...* If anything, these idols should be praised for understanding the nuisance that is made in abyss.
      This article, and anybody who agrees with it, is a brain-dead moron.

    7:49 I mean, the "censoring" is essentially only made up of covering nipples. I would have added scene being shorter and different shot composition but length of a panel is just one's own impression when reading Manga and composition is generally changed. So personally, I won't call it censorship.
    Main difference is the lack of back cover art. Which is lacking in every anime adaption of a manga.

    • @TheMickellPickell
      @TheMickellPickell  Před 6 měsíci

      Very true. For the most part, the censorship I'm referring to are those visual adjustments to panels present in the manga to make them less provocative. While the anime does outright cut sequences from the manga out (which by nature are closer to that realm: ie. no sequence in the movie where prushka is fondling her own breasts in the bathroom, vueko getting intimate with pakkoyan while Irumyuii watches, etc.) the censorship I was talking about in this video was visual changes mostly.
      I can understand full well what you would deem as proper censorship and to be honest, looking back on this video, I agree with you 👍

      @@TheMickellPickell You're right. I didn't real the portion of the Manga that dealt with the 3rd movie so I didn't know of the Prushka scene however for the scene with Pakkoyan and Vueko I suspect while controversy may have played a part the main reason it was removed i to streamline things.It did break up the shot pace of a manga a bit, on the other hand, just removing it rather than finding a way to make it flow better like they did with essentially all of Season 2 would have given us better context on the stuff that were happening.
      If the Prushka scene was similarly abrupt it may have more been a choice to help things flow better and bonus points to minimize controversy.

    Hi Mickell, I watched Joey's video on this topic before yours and he put a screenshot of a "kpop stan" (supposedly), where they gave a list of shows and anime on the level of MiA or worse. It was so funny reading that list. 😂
    Personally I don't listen to K-pop (The only song that I can think of from the top of my head is Gangnam Style), but those guys have pretty decent taste in anime. I'd guess that many of the vocal people from the "kpop stan" group fall in a very immature (by biological and mental ages) demographic and as you indirectly said in your video - can't differentiate between fiction and reality.
    The terrible attempt to impute to Akihito Tsukushi that he is a real "CP enjoyer" by that "journalist", like that other mangaka brought up in the article is disgusting. If I was MiA author, I'd sue the portal where it was published and the "journalist" who posted the article, but I know that I'm not an expert on law.

    Honestly 2 minutes and 49 seconds is almost 3 minutes too long. These scenes shouldn’t exist in the first place especially given the mangakas history of disturbing fetishes and anime’s known reputation of sexualising Loki’s. I can’t blame those looking into the show without context for immediately assuming the worst because the intention they’re put into the story with by the writer himself - is literally just to appease those with these fetishes. I love the manga but it’s all extremely unnecessary. You’re definitely not a P-do for enjoying the storyline but the writer himself definitely is one and we should all be self aware of the reason why these scenes are incorporated into the show and definitely not defend it whatsoever.

    It is as if people can't wrap their head around that japan has always been like this and has a different culture than western. Western audiences have always try to line up their weak morality standards to them, and whatever does not should be immediately cancelled just because they're not comfortable with it. Anyone who is this fragile to not understand the show and just see what's ""Wrong"" it without acknowledging the good story this show got in its narrative has a problem with perception.
    The fact that situations like those in Made in Abyss happen in a vast majority of other shows makes it not different from others at all. It seems like the big difference betwen the show and the others it's just characters, since no one else gets so outraged by the rest of the other shows. Not to mention that people also can't swallow the red pill and realise that is fiction and is meant to have a more relaxed take on the jokes and be a possible risk (depending the situation) within its own world.
