I still find it difficult to look at my reflection. I'm told by my family and friends that I'm pretty, but I don't feel pretty at all. There's a lot of loneliness, fear and trauma festering in me and it clouds my view of myself. I tend to look at myself from the perspective of what others did to me when I was young. When I try to see what other people see in me, its like I'm living in the shadow of myself. I'm told I'm pretty. I'm smart. I'm funny. I'm loving. But I don't feel like any of those things. It feels like immense pressure. Am I really living up to the image they think they see? What more should I be doing? Punpun strikes me that way, others not seeing the tangled mess inside you. To them, you're another regular person. Trying to change their mind is dangerous. Nobody wants to hear about your pain, they have their own lives and don't have the proper amount of energy it would take to comfort you even if they claimed to understand and want to. Eventually their will to keep hearing you will break. The alternative, living as the "regular person" they see, is its own torture. Its lonely. The loneliness hollows you out and keeps expanding. You feel full with nothing. You become cynical and convinced there's nobody *real* out there. No matter who you let in, eventually they will leave. You're just *too much* for anyone. I'm still trying to find a way out. I want to love and trust and believe I have the good qualities I'm told I have. I've been let down so many times I've tried. I actively avoid my reflection because I don't want to look into my eyes. They're so sad and tired.

I have intrusive thoughts exacerbated by my ocd and my therapist reccomended Imp of the mind by Lee baer. It doesn't just apply to those with ocd but it's a short read and written by a doctor who treats people from various backgrounds and mental health issues who deal with intrusive thoughts. It really helped me not internalize the thoughts I was having as a deep disgusting part of myself terrified it's something I might want, but as something my brain is doing against my will with part of the definition of intrusive thoughts being distressing, unwanted, and revolting to the person having them. He talks about how when talking to patients he often says the people who are so distressed about those kinds of thoughts are the people almost never likely to act on them. I would highly reccomend this book!

Ngl, I love Paru. Beast Complex is among my favorite mangas. She is just so fucking weird, but in the best way possible.

I can relate a few of punpun's feelings and scenarios. There are scenes that happen to me and I don't even know it wasn't normal until I reached high school. There is only one that helps me to overcome these problems, it's pride and probably because I'm too lazy to understand what's happening to me.

Question: How did you get the sound effect for Riko’s white whistle? I mean obviously from Season 2, but by itself I mean

i’m glad the story shifts in a different direction because I highly disliked the 2nd season. the whole season lacked any real exploration of the Abyss that made the show good in the first place

i found this & couldn't read it because mc looks like a dumb doodle plushie but is in a world where the darkest shit is unfolding at every moment, tf was author thinking lol. everything resembles a humanoid except the mc himself, bro looks like a meme. this manga would have a lot more readers including me if the mc was just a normal human character, i can't relate or empathize with a doodle plushie that looks funny

What volume

I hate Punpun, there are people who care for him, sacrifice their time and life for his wellbeing, yet he still feels entitled to wallow away in his own trauma. He finally kills Aiko's mother and then uses his only heroic deed as an excuse to hurt others. Don't mind me, I'm still upset asano killed aiko.

Glad I picked up the first two volumes on a whim. Friends had it but never talked about it much. Been going on a streak of reading stuff I shouldn’t of. Might as well start this one now. No idea what I’m getting myself into now. But I just got through a lollipop or a bullet (candy bullet can’t penetrate anything) so I doubt it’ll hurt worse.

Fun fact! The version of Aerith’s theme in 6:32 is actually considered lost media. As far as I’m concerned, no one knows who made it and it isn’t in the remake either. i read this manga front to back in high school because of a suggestion from a friend. high school had some of my absolute lowest points, but i wasn’t aware enough of who i am as a person to connect with punpun on a level that i think i would now. i was disconnected from my own life and my own self, instead focusing on things that i enjoyed and turning off my brain when creating vent art. i knew i was in an awful place and yet i didnt know just how bad things truly were. i’d like to reread this series but i also fear i’ll relate to punpun way more now than i ever have.. its a fantastic manga but its because i know just how good it is that im afraid to dive back in.

This was such an emotionally impactful essay, and I feel like I absolutely need to read this manga

i remember when i first discovered this anime 2013 or 2014 and it always stuck with me so i was so sad to not get any hints of a continuation until recently so happy that 10 years wont be for nothing im so excited :D

I wish I could read punpun for the first time again, it was insane how some parts of the manga were extremely wholesome and then a few pages later you get hit with the most intense, crushing wave of depression. its literally one of my favorite things ive ever read; ive never smiled and sobbed so uncontrollably reading a manga about a fucking bird creature 😭 if you want your life to be ruined I cant recommend it enough. its such a beautiful and heartbreaking story and I love it SO MUCH

This very personal and real video about punPun it's the best review i've ever seen. I've read the manga during 2021, the world was just getting out of a terrible collective trauma, my life was complicated, a toxic relationship was destroying me, my life and my marriage , my mental health was deteriorating and i started struggling again with weight. It was a terrible choice reading this but i was drawn to it so hard. It definitely helped me break and left me sobbing several times. But then i decided to go on and overcome all of that. I think everyone can relate to Punpun because of how terribly brutally honest it is and because deep down, we all have terrible moments and very rough patches. Loneliness is a collective experience, despair too. If i learned something out of it, it's: YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE. And that gave me the strenght. Thanks for this review. Now i wanna read it again and i can't wait to hate you for this. :)

42:46 I saw someone make a point in another video that, since this was Homura’s dream and it was slightly manipulating the people in it, that dream caused Madoka to say what Homura WANTED TO HEAR rather than her true feelings. That changed EVERYTHING for me.
