- 2022 was THE YEAR of anime. I don't think there has been a year in the anime community quite like 2022. With series, both original and continuing being some of the absolute BEST the medium has had on offer. With that being said, lets talk about my personal (and objectively correct) favourites from this year.
But we will not include sequels because...I mean...Made In Abyss came out this year and it wouldn't be a fair contest...Also Merry Christmas or whatever...

Merry Christmas, Mickell! This definetly one of the greatest years of anime we got in a long time, maybe ever, both in terms of sequels and original works. The only problem really is that there are som many amazing shows that I know I´d enjoy like Witch from mercury or the executioner and her way of life, but havent watched yet, because im still catching up to some of the other shows like mob psycho or bocchi the rock. And I still haven´t gotten around to watching jojo part 6. So yeah, probably top 3 years for anime.
Couldn't agree more! Just trying to keep up with all the anime that came out this year (and still managing to miss a few gems) is such a big task! There was just an absurd amount of high quality anime that came out this year! Glad to hear you're watching Mob and Bocchi though! This season of Mob while it starts a little slow, its final few episodes I feel is Mob Psycho 100 at its absolute peak! Also Bocchi is just insanely brilliant, truly a gem of a series (and though in 3rd place, I would personally put it in second place alongside Chainsaw-man).

I would love to return to episodic reviews, but it takes a REALLY incredible series to make me want to do that. If a series that grips me like: Made In Abyss, Madoka Magica or Sangatsu No Lion, appears in the new year, I'll be sure to make videos on it! But we will see 😊

Aye another Noragami fan! We are a dying breed 😭 I really should get into the manga at some point now that I know its coming to an end soon! The anime had no right to be as hype and enjoyable as it was! And I heard that the second half of the first season was all anime-original!? So I'm curious to see what the manga did differently there!
@@TheMickellPickell ohhhmygod yeah a lot of hardcore fans regard the anime as a different piece of art entirely to the manga! We are just over 100 chapters in now and the mangaka duo release half a chapter a month, around the 4thish of each! I am betting my money on daikoku and kofuku being ur favs once u read what happens with them btw

The list is good for the most part, although you are objectively wrong about one part. “Ya Boy, Kongming” is objectively better than most of the shows on this list and deserves the #2 place on this list after Spy x Family. Even though it was a solid show it should probably take the place of healer girls (fight me on this Crow 😅)
Other than your objective mistake, I think this list is solid. I might not personally like chainsaw man as much, but I understand why it’s there. I also NEED to watch a few of these shows. And I’m happy you really connected with spy x family! That is my favorite anime that came out in a very long time, and would be my favorite of the year if not for the second season of made in abyss.

God I've heard so many good things about Uncle From Another World! Really need to sit down with it because the sheer premise alone is genuinely hilarious but also, quite deep. I'll be sure to finish it sometime within the new year!
SpyxFamily is actually the first anime I've ever seen. Saw lots of people talking about it on Twitter, intrigued by the premise but didn't think much of it as I had a slight prejudice towards the genre. Though I got a tablet soon after, saw that it was available on Netflix and gave it a try.
And wow, literally got that show to thank (and 9anime) for enabling me to watch over 40+ pieces of anime in 6 months, including 4 from your list (Call of the night, Dress up Darling, Gundam, Lycoris). Though right after SpyxFam, I watched Bunny Girl Senpai and Love is War that made me truly fall in love with the genre.
And now that season 1 is officially over, I can honestly say that life is just better to have so much more content/entertainment to look forward to in the future. Almost feels like discovering movies for the first time. I totally agree that this year has been amazing for amime. Can't wait to check out the rest of your list!

Given i haven't been watching much since CR introduced the paywalll on simulcasts and I am stretched as is, I can see what you mean the vibrant animation in a lot of these series are top notch. Certainly sound like a great year.
Honestly dude, an INSANELY high quality year for the industry. Its genuinely shocking how fantastic a year it has been for us anime-fans. There were so many incredible shows, I doubt there will be a year like this again any time soon. So many of these are a solid 9/10 series!

I wish you watched akiba maid war. Despite what it looks like initially, I assure you it has a genuinely interesting storyline that hits hard especially at the end.
I am still watching Akiba Maid War! Haven't finished it, hence why I couldn't place it on this list but I'm genuinely having such a fun time with it. It is THE MOST INSANE show of the year.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners. Since it was you, I watched it. Just finished it, in fact. Gee, I really love a happy ending.

I've watched a lot of the anime from this list and I'm sad to say not all, but I got my reason, first of, I thought the life of the executioner would be a "op girl chills out" type anime, and it's not to say I don't like those, but if you saw my list of animes I'm currently watching you would know I have over 3 animes like that that I haven't finished, now knowing that isn't the case I'm gonna have to add it to the list of watching, for what I saw of the clip and the title if I can guess the plot I imagine "executioner" isn't referring to the black hooded due with a big axe but the fact she probably has to kill the isekaid people to acquire the needed power to save the world or something and when they get there they like lie to then saying the simply will help, but at some point they realize what is going on, I may and probably am way off but only way to know is by watching.
And for the Gundam anime, I just feel like I don't know enough about Gundams, I know what they are but I've never watched, read or seen anything Gundam related, feel kinda wrong watching it out of order or without knowing what is going to happen, do you think it's necessary? Looked really fun for the clips I've watched.
And summer time render, I simply forgot, I even saved it, I just kinda forgot I did.
Also one last note, I'll never understand why people hate isekais so much, like I understand if you find them boring or dumb, I do too, even cringe sometimes, but that makes it fun, it's an experience I know I'll get, it's got twist sometimes that change it, it's got cute moments I get attatched to characters easily so I know I'll like anything you throw at me, I've enjoyed every single anime I've watched without a skip, like absolutely all of them, my heart can't choose one, JoJo's changed my life and got me into anime like a beast, bunny girl made me finally understand, putting the nail in the coffin, that i fucking adore romance even as a big ass emotionless lonely dude, bocchi made me see that even I can relate to a character from a point where it isn't even worry but cringe at the realization that I would've done the same thing and that I would've crumbled, also makes me sad thinking bocchi is doing way better than I'm doing and that maybe I should give up on living, if I do I won't be able to see bocchi so it simply negates itself out giving me happiness instead.
Anyways, amazing video, just wanted to share my thoughts which as you can see are one too many and not organized at all.
I’ll say a few things, first of all, thanks for your passionate comment! I love the openness and transparency in this. Your line of thought makes total sense. To answer a few things:
1) The Executioners Way Of Life is more about the role of the executioner in this universe. Her goal is to kill people who have been isekaied because their powers are strong enough to destroy their world. The main lead Menou doesn’t gain power from killing these people, only peace of mind for herself and the church.
2) you do NOT NEED to watch anime other gundam series before watching Witch From Mercury. It is a completely different take on the gundam format and you don’t need any prior knowledge to enjoy its universe because it is completely different to the usual foundation the genre is built on. I think you should give it a shot, I think you’ll really enjoy it!
3) I don’t believe people hate the isekai genre, but they hate the consistently over-played stories in the medium. There are some shows that break that stigma. So rather than people “hating isekai”, I think they are “hating the troupes commonly found in isekai”.
4) I’m sorry to hear about your mental health struggles in the past. I would instead of *comparing yourself to Bocchi*, I would *keep rocking on like Bocchi*. Rather than making yourself feel worse by comparing yourself to her, recognise the character for what it stands for. Bocchi is a lot like all of us, the only difference is that she surrounds herself with positive people and tries her absolute hardest to make a name for herself. While she comes up short a lot, she hasn’t ever given up. Like Bocchi, don’t give up on yourself, because wonderful things can happen if you keep at it.
Cyberpunk and Healer Girl are the only ones I haven't seen of these, but of course they're already on my Plan to Watch list. excellent taste. Bocchi the Rock and Call of the Night are my favorite non-sequels of the year.
If I had to mention any other shows, I would highlight Akiba Maid War, Ya Boy Kongming, Do It Yourself, and Fantasy Bishoujo. The first three you may have heard of, but Fantasy Bishoujo flew under a lot of people's radars, and I swear it's worth checking out, legitimate claim on being the funniest piss-take on isekai since Konosuba. I hear the manga's great, too.

I mention at the start of the video that this is a list of new shows and NOT sequels.
If sequels were included Made In Abyss, Mob Psycho 100 and Attack On Titan would steal those top spots. I wanted to shed light on not so familiar series.
Hey now, let's not just ignore Cloverworks regarding Spy Family. I keep hearing people giving WIT all the credit, and granted I don't know how the workload is split between them (so if anyone knows please share), but honestly my impression of Cloverworks based on what I've seen so far is that they do very high quality work. Sure, they sometimes bite off more than they can chew, but I appreciate that they seem to set a high bar. Also, I'd say they have a better knack for choosing projects than WIT, but maybe that's just me.
I actually had forgotten that Cloverworks had a giant involvement in the series. That is a mistake I made in the script. While WIT is piloting the main series, Cloverworks involvement I believe was to animate every second episode.
I think both studios have their own talents and uniqueness when it comes to selecting long-term projects.
Cloverworks has produced various anime of pretty high quality, whilst WIT Studio, only choose a select few stories to adapt, but when WIT choose a product, they tend to nail it every time.

I respect your opinion but i think 2021 was better , 2021 have absolute masterpieces that can be remembered for decades like mushoku tensei , odd taxi , shadows house , 86 , re zero , ousama ranking , link click , vivy , kobyashi , to your eternity and much more
While I agree that 2021 had some insanely great anime originals like Mushoku, To your eternity and Ranking Of Kings, which will always have a place in my heart.
I feel that 2022 had so many original shows of that quality as well, but also had an insane amount of high-quality sequels as well.

Damn was hoping for a shout out of mob psycho season 3 I think that show had the perfect ending of the season.
This was a list that excluded anime sequels.
I mention at the start of the video that Mob Psycho 100 was without question, one of the stronger and greater series this year alongside Made In Abyss and Attack On Titan.
I'm a VERY simple man, I see big fuck-off robots and cute-ass anime girls I watch!! MSG: Witch from Mercury is amazing, and honestly, the animation has been utterly amazing. Chainsaw Man is such a great adaptation. Yes, the CG gets a little much from time to time, but it's flawed in the best way possible. I've read the Manga and can't wait for them to eventually get to Best Girl arc. As always, a great video man!
FINALLY! SOME WITCH FROM MERCURY LOVE!
God its so nice seeing some hype around such a criminally underrated show. It was so surprising just how invested the series made me since episode one. It has some BRILLIANT character moments and insane fight-sequences throughout it, and hearing that its likely going to be 24 episodes is bloody insane to me. I'm so ready for more!

-Genki Female John Wick and company are great (also another person online pointed out the bullets Chisato uses are likely what are known as "pepper bullets", they are non-lethal bullets that are covered in and/or made of chili peppers, thus resulting in the red puffs)!!!!!
-Rebecca is best girl of Edgerunners!
-Bocchi is my spirit animal (besides the music part)
-Chainsaw man is awesome, Makima worst girl and POWER BEST GIRL (trust me i am a manga reader)!!!!!!!

Totally understandable. Lycoris Recoil never had a dull moment. It honestly nailed most of what it was aiming to achieve and its tone was unlike anything this year had on offer.

Totally understandable! I found myself more eager for episodes of Bocchi than Chainsaw man myself lmao (which says a lot because I'm a CM manga reader and it only took Bocchi 12 episodes to love it just as much).
I do believe that they are both tied for that second place spot simply because they are both series that excel in their own ways.

I love the performances in the series so much. There is so much love and care that goes into not just the comedic representation of the series, but even those moments, where its just you and the concert stage. The tone and energy just blew me away in those performances!
While I failed to express this in the video, I love Bocchi the Rock JUST as much as Chainsaw Man. Easily a contender for anime of the year (and I would be ELATED if it got more than one award at the Crunchyroll awards).
I love other anime fans but the thirst as ironic comedy that's actually unironic feels kinda played out

This list was for new shows only, it’s not on there cause he probably considers it a sequel (even though things get murky when u start mention jojo and what’s a sequel and what’s not)
Jojo part 6 was exceptionally great. Joylene is my favourite jojo and I'm VERY happy with how they handled her story. But this list is based on series that made their FIRST ever debut in 2022.
Putting Jojos on this list I feel is unfair because while this arc of Jojo is a brand new season with a brand new storyline, it has had over 100+ episodes in the past to have gotten you gripped to its world and characters. I want to focus on shows that only started this year, that managed to grip me within the confines of a few episodes.

TRUE! It was an insanely good year for anime. There were so many I wanted to include but just didn't have enough spots for. Ya Boy Koming, Reincarnated As A Sword, Akibara Maid Wars, Birdie Wing Golf, Blue Lock and Summertime Render are just a few other banging series this year!

If I'm being 100% honest, I found, the start of season 3 was really good but as it crept into the middle-section (the whole, aliens b-plot and stuff) was a bit of a muddy puddle, but then, those last 4 episodes I'd argue is Mob Psycho at its absolute best! I genuinely loved season 3 despite its flaws. I feel its the most emotionally investing season.

There's not a lot of anime I watch but Chainsaw Man and Spy X Family were two series I really fell in love with (aside from MIA season 2) this year. They are so divergently the opposite in tone and story that it's a good balance for me. I had my hopes up for Urusei Yastura, but it kinda fell short as I loved the original series, I guess it just didn't date well. Maybe they should have done something a bit more new for the animation, like Cute Honey did... And if you want to get into something not anime.... fucking Star Wars: ANDOR... These were the three shows that I waited to drop every morning to watch. Chainsaw Man Tuesday, Andor Wednesday, and Spy Family Saturday. I did watch Edgerunners and it was pretty cool. Did some art of Lucy so hopefully it'll sell at shows. Also have a Yor Forger piece too in Nice and Naughty states.
Oh, I gave Call of the Night a go with the first episode to see if it could fill that Monogarti hole I was missing, but I coudldn't get into it with the first episode. I hear good things about Bocchi the Rock and may give that a go if it's on CR or HiDIve.
Shame about Urusei Yastura. I heard that its original was the foundation for many "troupes" within the romantic-supernatural-comedy genre, so its influence shouldn't be glossed over. Its a shame to hear that they couldn't quite encapsulate what made the original so great though

I’m aware it’s not a series for everyone, but I’m never going to stop spreading the good word of this absolute masterpiece of bittersweetness and eldritch-mystery.
Some of us (and brand us weird if you want) like to feel uncomfortable and pained by certain stories. Things that make me FEEL are honestly why I love this medium, and made in abyss is a story that utilises it.
