So anyway, Ji-hun Jeon is a Manwha writer with an incredible ability to convey really personal and passionate ideas through pure imagery, and The Horizon encapsulates that beautifully. This manwha tackles some really profound and honest ideas relating to moving from beyond your past, too the acceptance of oneself despite their flaws. It's a manhwa that resonated with me so strongly that I felt the need to animate over 700 manwha panels and make a long video about why by the end of it, I was a sobbing mess of human mass...oh and I also quit my job...once again...books am I right?

Oh yes, my favourite genre - child suffering
*perfectly articulated
Ah yes, how I love child suffering so much to finally finished Made in Abyss just to find another one similar to enjoy.
the 14 pages of crying and imagery made me so fucking depressed and it also made me so worried about what the hell the ending of Made in Abyss will be, like having Riko cry to this knowing the complete end of the abyss being nothing, amazing video man thank you for showing us this video and please take your time on the next one
Thank you for taking the time to watch this andrew! Appreciate your time and support :) Here's hoping that if this manwha had an inspiring and good ending, so will made in abyss 🙏
@@TheMickellPickell no problem and yeah this manwha needs to be shown to other people, hope a new chapter comes out in July since I heard that Akihito is mainly just finding the right time to release a chapter, one good manga that's going to get an anime adaption soon is Dandadan, has a weekly release schedule (so this is a good manga to read while we wait for a new chapter lol) insane action and great characters
I'm so glad you've gotten so into semi-obscure manga/manwha, there's so much cool interesting art in the dark corners of the less popular
The description about the usage of panel space to communicate mentals state reminds me a lot of evangelion
Eyyy good to see you homie! Yeah there are plenty of series like this that aren't talked about much at all online, so I'm looking forward to ripping the Band-Aid off on a lot of them!
I can't believe this video has as little views as it does. I clicked because you're covering one of my favorite manhwas, but I never expected to find such a fantastic commentary and analysis of this manhwa, along with hearing a very human takeaway of how this manhwa inspired you, and tied it into your life.
This review is very special because of how much love and effort that went into not only the script and structure, but the phenomenal editing. It's obvious how much care you put into this, thank you for such a fantastic video!
You’re far too kind! Thank you so much for the encouraging words, it’s very honouring to hear 😊
It’s awesome seeing another The Horizon fan! It really is something special that I feel everyone who experiences it, has their own takeaway from it. I appreciate you hearing out mine ❤️
Sometimes I find it difficult to move forward. Living in a world that not only is indifferent to your existence but actively tries to suffocate people for simply being is so incredibly demoralizing and it’s so hard to keep wanting things to be better knowing that the work will never be done. It will never be done in my life time at the very least.
The audacity to dream and want is one of the few things we can do. I pray for the safety of my friends and loved ones and hope to make more connections to people who can be there for me.
Connections are hard to trust when you’ve been hurt badly before but it’s only natural to crave community and acceptance.
I forgot where I was going with this I blame this on the fact I cried for like ten minutes after this video and had to use every braincell to think of something to say despite the fact that technically I don’t have to say anything but if this is the emotional reaction I had to this I feel almost obligated to say something so if anything respectfully I am in tears
Comment for the algorithm 👍✨
It really is hard. Sometimes despite loving something and doing something as wonderful as having dreams, can ultimately be what hurts the most. Its not easy moving forward because on one hand, being complacent in life is comfortable and you get caught up in its repetitiveness, and the other being pursuit without knowing where it leads its legitimately horrifying.
Thank you for letting my work affect you and thank you for hearing out my honest thoughts and feelings. I'm glad to hear that you resonated with my video so strongly :) Appreciate the kind words and I hope you're able to walk your road! Regardless of how small the steps are, they are still steps. Wishing you the best out of whats left of 2024 🙏
Combining story telling, explaination and your own personal thoughts and feelings in your life to how it attributes to this story was done perfectly. There wasn't a moment it didn't flow (the gags don't count towards this) and had me basically glued to the screen for the whole time.
It has been some time since I read this manhwa, and having seen this video and having also recently purchased the books I truly believe my experience with it again will not be the same as it was originally.
It is always an honour to see big projects like this develop into something incredible; so I wish to both thank and congratulate you for the time, effort and heart that has been put in this. Big props to Sol and the VA's for their contributions in this video.
Aigh enough yappin', I'll wrap up for now wishing you the best, and for a stunning ocean sunrise beyond any forest.
You're the goat North
I've been struggling to find the right words to leave here, but I'll try anyway. I think bleak, yet emotional, vulnerable works like this have a lot of value, and you bringing attention to them, and allowing yourself to be vulnerable in the process, has value too. I also feel like I'm on my own road, not sure where I'm going, insecure that I'm running out of time to figure it out, but seeing things like this makes me feel like I'm not alone, which gives me even the smallest bit of hope to keep going. Beautiful video as always. I hope for so much success for you in the future, I really think you deserve it.
You are far too kind as always Sklent :) I appreciate your consistent support of what I do on here.
I couldn't agree more regarding the importance of media like this. Sometimes we need a good reminder of how bleak and empty the world will feel at times, whilst also simultaneously a reminder of how beautiful and vast it truly is.
I am happy to hear that you feel as if you are walking that road. No matter how small the steps, they are still steps. No matter how long the walk will take, you are still making progress.
Thank you for giving me a platform to speak my honest thoughts on and thank you for taking the time to listen
i will always remember that fatefull night when i read it all, in complete silence, at first i was hoping for the misery to end, but when it was about time to end, i didn't want to let go of this character.
I once again cried at the bus and the sun, but it was damn worth it.
going from pages and pages of black&white only to have the most colorfull sun is such a whiplash of hope.
It's been a great story. Ahhh
It made me feel a lot.
If was also nice talking with you as I was reading it.
It really is incredible isn't it? The fact that you go from many pages (especially the underwater sequence) of pure black and white, and then you turn to that coloured spread and it quite literally feels like a sunrise in motion...god its absolutely fucking brilliant.
From the depths of the black ocean to the sudden burst of yellow and orange that comes from the sun, it feels all intentional and my god, is it truly powerful.
this manwha was wild, read it all in one night. The scene where the missile hits the girl made me put my phone down for like an hour
The missile actually does not hit any of them.
The sound from the explotion from the missile shocks them and the 2 boy both trigger their guns.
Glad to hear you were familiar with this one! It really was something special which is why I'm hopeful this video will create new readers as its a masterpiece in every sense of the word!
Also good seeing you here as always! Love your editing style~
Babe wake up, new Mickell Pickell video dropped
CAIRNSYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Wow, 9.7 views is a crime. This is an amazing breakdown. The editing is top notch, which really completes the package. Keep it up, once a single video gains traction, its sure to domino effect
You're too kind! Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm not super fussed about the views, but it is really nice hearing that you think my words should be heard to a wider audience.
Appreciate the support :)
Wow that really felt like a journey to the end of the horizon, just fantastic work in bringing the characters and story to life and presenting the themes in a way that's really well told. I think its awesome how you put to words and share your own experiences with the story and how it influenced your way of looking at the road ahead.
Its strange how a piece of media can appear at just the right moment in life and leave you with something that you needed at the time, like the kind of stories that stay with you even after you close the last page or finish the last episode. That's what makes these kind of stories such gems.
Thanks so much Squig! Appreciate the kind words as always! Glad to hear that you liked that aspect of this video :)
You're absolutely right in reference to the timing of things. Sometimes a show can mean so much to someone based solely on when they found it, and I'd absolutely say that the timing in which this manwha found me, made my experience with it so much more meaningful.
Good luck on your journey. Here's a buck for your efforts. Ps. I promise to not watch this masterpiece on the toilet.

That was a so beautifully made. I loved hearing the story of this manwa, your interpretation and also how you relate to it personally.
I relate to it as well. I've been in exposure therapy for the past 6 months, diving down into the darkness of my past to drag my younger self to shore.
Your work has always held a fantastic quality as well as a great emotional depth. I believe in this journey for you and hope the road will be truly fulfilling 🙂
You're the greatest Frida
well, the ending of this video really made me bawl like a baby. Thanks for sharing Mickell! it also is a massive feat you fit my name on this tiny ass TV screen in the patron thanks.
Thank you for watching too the end and for letting my work affect you :')
My absolute pleasure! Thanks again for supporting what I do
honestly, for the part with the man in the nice suit, that's exectly how I felt for the longest time when I past 19, 20, 22, 25. only recently got my own place because it was something forced with a time limit of 'find a way to survive or survive on the streets' and yet I was made out as the bad guy by my own mother because she could never accept that she was in the wrong. excilent vid, though, keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing your experience with me. Despite the fact that you were pushed out but still make an effort to keep pushing is incredibly inspiring. I hope this year at the very least is a little easier on you. But well done on making it this far :)
Thanks for watching and for commenting~!
I forever adore your motion manga videos and I can see why the story related to you. Best of your journey to find your place in the CZcams algorithm you deserve it.
MEISTER! Thank you so much for the really kind words and generous donation homie
I was out touching grass this weekend and finally got a chance to watch. Very well done, I salute you. MTD
OH SNAP ITS JINKIM! I hope the grass-touching was fulfilling 🙏
Thanks again for supporting what I do homie! Appreciate your consistent support of my work! I hope whatever road you are walking, it bears fruits :) Thanks so much for watching!
Wow. I like how vulnerable and emotional this was, I can tell a lot of thought went into making this. Thanks so much for sharing with us. I can definitely see some overlaps in themes with The Horizon and MIA from what you've shared, and The Horizon sounds like a great story. It's really cool how much its moved you. I found myself trying not to cry while watching this. I once had a dream and I ended up experiencing the death of it. I've been "floating" through life since. Over the years though, my interest in art has grown. I hope one day I can make something beautiful too. I've been reminded to take a step forward. Thank you. Keep on Shining, Mickell! ✨
Thanks for being here Dani! Your support of what I do is really appreciated and the fact you continue to give me the platform to talk about these types of things is truly appreciated ❤️🙏
I look forward to seeing what you one day will create! I hope that this love for art continues to blossom and that it bears some fruits. Do your best and I’m sure you’ll create something absolutely breathtaking.
You keep shining also Dani! 🙏✨ Let’s do our best this year!
Oh wait I saw this being nominated for the Eisner Award and I was like oh shit maybe I should give this a read. Definitely didn't do that yet, but, happily watched anyway. Love the production and quality put into this and how you were able to describe the personal parallels you found in the work through the characters. The manganimations were going crazy as usual, but I also really liked the narrative interjections of like the inner voices and the representation of that darkness trying to claw away at us, really awesome and cinematic stuff!
The king of editing themselves! Thanks so much for dropping by and leaving such a kind comment :') Really appreciate it!
I'm glad to hear the segues from the intense subject matter of the manhwa to my personal existentialism wasn't too jarring lmao.
Love your work and keen to see more from you in the future, thanks again for being here and hearing me out.
Just by the lenght of this video it shows how amazing The Horizon is, a short manga yet so full of emotions. Showing us why you dont need a 200 chapter manga to tell a story that conveis a lot of meaning
I'm glad to hear you say that! The Horizon really is something special that has so much to say with its limited words as well as limited volumes. That is the power of this medium on full display :)
oh man i cry for ending
Thanks for watching all the way through the end! And thank you for letting my work affect you
*hears soundtrack* I see you're a Final Fantasy fan. So am I. Wonderful choices of music.
Glad you liked their implementation! Huge Final Fantasy fan over here~ With FF9 being my all time favourite game ever made :)
Immaculate work!
Thanks so much! 🙏
I do find it interesting how Mickell interpretted Wayward Souls as the reason he would quit his stable job and put his hopes in dreams in the hands of online strangers, and the youtube "algorithm".
I think this story would encourage exactly the opposite position.
Regardless I did enjoy the video and I was emotionally moved by the ending and the tenacity of humanity to go on living despite the odds.
That’s what’s so cool about art! There is never truly a wrong way to respond nor feel about it. Everyone’s experience and takeaway will always be different (even if only slightly). I can absolutely see how The Horizon would encourage people to stick to what they are familiar with, as opposed to myself where I was inspired to do the opposite.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and hear my thoughts 🙏
@@TheMickellPickell Wow, thank you for replying to my post, I'm truly honored!
I just wanted to ask though:
Was it the hope of finally reaching the sunshine at the end of the tunnel itself that motivated you, or was it the journey the boy struggled through which led him to appreciating the sunshine even more?
From what I was told, the youtubers hoping for their sunshine to come are the ones that end up quitting,
but the ones that (for reasons I don't understand) want to experience that form of struggle themselves and learn what they are truly capable of are the ones that succeed.
Because to me, the sun didn't change, it was the perspective of the person witnessing the sun that changed.
I think the sunshine never changed, in fact I would argue that its the same as it always was. But as you say, its the way the person view's that sunshine that defines its beauty. Throughout the entirety of the horizon, you see the sun rise and set, but its always coated in black and white. It looks regular and stoic, like a secondary thought to the illustrator. Despite the boy struggling his entire life, he still decides to press on, he still firmly believes he is worthy of a better life, and then that same sun suddenly looks absolutely stunning.
I think what I'm trying to say is. Editing and making videos has always been that sunshine for me. But by never taking the time to stick with it, having it only be this little hobby of mine that I get to experience at the end of a hard-work day, made that sunshine feel small and gray. Only after realising that this hobby means so much to me and I want to pursue it, only then did the sun really start looking beautiful.
Hopefully this makes sense :) Sorry for the late response
@@TheMickellPickell Yes, I complete understand now.
Thank You!
Here it is! The long awaited video, gotta grab some snacks!
I just realized that you ate part of my patreon nickname, (not only)Made In Abyss Manga Animation Guy must have been hungry 😆
My bad! I get hungry in the editing process....(Missed the Z when typing yours in, im sorry i'll make a little easter egg out of it next time😭)
@@TheMickellPickell No biggie, but easter egg sounds amazing! Can't wait for the next video!
This one got to me. Thank you for your hard work mickell. Your going to do great things for yourself, and others you'll never meet. Very few can say the same. Can't wait to come along on your journey man

Really excited to see where this channel goes and keen to keep diversifying and making more cool shit ✌️
Thanks for the generous donation as always ya fuckin handsome man~ 😤👌
Reall cool to see you covering this. Despite hearing about it once or twice, I´ve never read this manhwa before, but I´ll definetly check it out now. It´s always really interesting to see the personal impact some stories have on people. I haven´t actually watched most of the video yet, I´ll go read the manhwa first when I find the time for it this week, but I´ll definetly come back to this the moment I finish it.
Can´t wait to watch it fully, your videos are always great! Wishing you the best in your youtube career. You deserve it!
You're too kind! Thank you so much as always Bonedrewd for sticking by the channel and checking in :) I'm glad this video inspired you to read it first! It really is something special and I look forward to hearing your honest thoughts not just about the video but the manhwa as well!
Thank you so much for the best wishes, I hope I can make yall proud :)
@@TheMickellPickell okay, finally got around to reading it just now. Goddammit, had me crying by the end, easily one of the best stories I´ve read in a long time. I´m really glad your video got me to read it.
You´ve really outdone yourself again with this one. From the animation to the script to the small bits of voice acting to everything else. I loved to hear about your own personal experience reading it and how it impacted you. Really hit home for me on some points.
Originally I just started watching you for your Made in Abyss videos (which are still great), but now you´ve genuinly become one of my favourite youtubers and this is one of your best videos yet!
Wishing you the best, but as far as I´m concerned you´ve made me proud already
Shocked I never heard of this manwha. I ended up watching the entire video because I was curious but I want to read the actual thing and have my own experience. I don't mind being spoiled or knowing the ending- it's about the journey through the story after all.
That ending segment really hit hard for me. I"m pushing 30 and always "played safe" as recommended by everyone around me. No confidence in myself to veer off the path. My life may be secure but it's not fulfilling. I don't have grand dreams of getting famous or making it as some sort of influencer. I just want to have another career path than the one I am on right now. So everything you said almost pushed me to sobbing at work 😥 Hit home.
Fantastic video and great animations!
PS: What is the song that plays in the background in the last segment? It's really beautiful.
Thank you for letting my words and work affect you and I appreciate you hearing out my thoughts and my story ❤️
I hope that you are able to find access to a path that suits you better and stimulates you. Do your best and keep your chin up, that’s all you can do, right?
The song that plays is called “Harvest” from the series Grimgar Of Fantasy Ash. The song that follows is called “Lullaby” from the World Ends With You series 😊
this needs way more attention
I appreciate the kind thought 😊
4:37 the true pain, nuff said
But now for real. I am happy to see that you found the courage to follow your own road and see what awaits you beyond the horizon.
As always, amazing work on the animtion but also on the storytelling. I am glad to get to witness your improvment with every video so keep it up and follow your dreams ans cheesy as it sounds.
May your new journey filled with blessings and curses.
You are too kind man, thank you so much for watching and giving me the chance to voice my honest thoughts. I appreciate what you've done for me both in the lead up to this moment and what you'll continue to do for the community. You're the best
I must say, I ended up watching this video at just the right time. Right when I needed it. So, thank you for making this.

Excellently done video. May your boldness be rewardes

Thank you for watching Jazmin! I appreciate the kind words! They will not be forgotten 🙏
That's really brave and inspiring of you! Quitting a job to focus on your study is a bold feat that I'm sure will absolutely bear fruits! Looking forward to hearing stories of when you've landed an engineering position :) Best of luck!
Glad we get to follow your story mickell!!
Thank you for letting me tell it :')
What a beautiful and well written analysis, thank you for the video!!
Thank you so much for giving me some of your time!
Writing was never my strong-suit so it really means a lot to me to hear you say that :)
I am trying to do something similar to what you are so knowing someone out there is going through similar stuff gave me a weird sense of relief.
Your video was amazing as always, using undertale's ost was a genius choice and the ending of the video was just downright beautiful.
It left me with a bittersweet feeling of finding beauty in this very very cruel world.
Animating those panels with such skill must have taken a ridiculous amount of effort.
Thank you for another banger of a video.
Aye thanks so much! I appreciate you sitting down and listening to me yap on for 40+ minutes
This video made me subscribe
I have seen a couple of your videos but this got my attention and if the video was longer I would have cried . . I got close but the jokes brought me back xD

Brother man i saild the 7 seas and read this and shit was so good
Glad to hear you took the devastating plunge that is this brilliantly tragic series 🙏
Oh boy, you've done it bossman.
You didn't simply combine the story and your personality, but you've made it into one.
I congradulate the honesty. I don't think I'd be able to talk like that.
This video really just elevated this manwha from "Horizon Manwha Spoilers guy" to "Holy fuck, I know it'd be one of my favorite books I've ever read if I read it". Great work!
I also can't sit silently and not say how much this reminded of Gurren Lagann. Please watch it if you haven't yet, it is genuenly life changing in a better way, just like this manwha.

@@TheMickellPickell Could recognize that font & soul sucking tracks anywhere 🙏
Man, I'm taking a break from the first volume part, not because it's too disturbing (in terms of nothing graphic) but that I hate that it turned out PRECISELY WHAT I WAS AFRAID of, like, it wasn't surprising twist, I would be surprised if it's something else. I don't like how the girl was the one "starting" this problem by being the one not leaving this CLEARLY MENTALLY ILL guy. That's not kind, that was stupid, which also caused the boy to get bruised.
I mean, I don't want to begin discussion about irl mentally r**arded people, like whether we should help them or not, because in circumstances when it is possible and there's facility for it, sure, it's humane thing to do. But these are kids low on supply, in times of war. I'm sorry, I cannot feel sympathy for this girl because, like, I know she's a kid, but SHE SHOULD ALREADY UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM IT BRINGS TO THE BOY TOO.
I just... Don't like the stories where the problems are due to female playing 'I'm a nice guy' which lead to the male character having to deal with the mess. And then, like, after he saved his life, she cried. When she should've been the one thanking and apologizing the boy for getting him punched, in situation where there's no medical help.
I did not trust this strange guy one bit even when he was being nice. Especially after it's shown he peed without any awareness. This man is clearly mentally r**arded (not in insulting way, but in clinical, chronic way) so yeah he got iq of a toddler but he still has biological drive and energy of an adult. And in this situation (not in normal functioning society situation), yeah it is mega stupid to not leave him. I don't care they're kids, heck if anything, they should be more selfish BECAUSE they're kids.
When you said, "a look on her eyes make him understand that she's just like him", I thought she'd be as resourceful as him. But nah, she got to be another "a pure, stupid/weak female" to be protected by the more able man. I'm just... tired of the trope. I want them to have similar level of resoursefulness so that the danger is really an inevutable danger, not some shit they could've avoided if they're less dumb.
Again, I understand they're children, and I would accept it if the dumb thing being done is childish. But no actual child would did what the girl did. Like, the farthest I can imagine is that in safe environment, some might be curious enough to approach the guy, no way in hell after the shits that guy pulled any child didn't hate him. Normal child would throw a tantrum, and here where they have to be mature enough not to throw one, they would still hate him.
5:53 see ya after I read
See you down the road! Enjoy your incredibly beautiful and depressing time with The Horizon
i love how this manhwa answers oyasumi pun pun in the way that gurren lagann answers evangelion.
evangelion is a just, sad story about shinji and how really shit his life ended up.
but gurren lagann starts from the same hopeless point, they both lose people, they both lose what they consider everything. shinji didnt move on, simon did.
pun pun stayed hopeless, even forgot aiko, stayed horrible, stayed affected by the world, and muddied what was around him with his own hopelessness, had no redemption, no reflection.
pun pun never moved forward.
the boy, did.
I have never once thought about that!
That is such a brilliant take-away from this manhwa!~
To consider it an answer to another completely different series is a really cool way of looking at it :)
Great interpretation!
I still don't think that quitting a full-time job with stable income is good but it you decision and i very like you video so good luck and i will support you all the way i can dude.
Any normal person would agree with you. Dropping a fulltime gig for something far less stable is unrealistic and some people would kill to have a fulltime position. Yet, it’s my life and it feels right to start making decisions that let me have control over it 🙏
Appreciate the support homie!
우와.. 이게 리뷰되네;;
정말 마음에 들었어요! :)
35:04 i am sorry but THIS!!! THIS PANEL NEEDS MORE WEIGHT.
WTFFF i was hoping that the other girl and boy could find mutual understanding of losing someone close. How... How did the boy just casually shoot the girl....
To clarify, its an editing choice. What actually happens is the white-haired-girl borrows the gun of the dead boy and shoots herself in the head. I couldn't however showcase the panel that shows this because of CZcams's rules. The main character simply watches.

@@TheMickellPickell do not get me wrong. You are doing a GREAT job and you have my utmost respect for that. But I have enought darkness in my life (I wish the "d" was capital), so I pass on your great material I do value. However I do expect the new MiA chapter.
